WARNING DO NOT GO IF YOU HAVE NATURAL HAIR!!!…read more I honestly did not even want to,give this salon one star, but I have to put a rating. If Yelp allowed it, I would put a fourth of a star. Billy is a terrible stylist, who should just admit he can't handle natural hair, but was too greedy for the money to do this. Firstly, I should have known better because everyone had permed hair and one person was getting a perm as I was sitting there. Billy the stylist seemed nice and I had gone there four years earlier, but I came with my hair already blown out and just had him to flat iron it. This time I had my hair blown out but he took me to the bowl to wash my hair, something that I thought might be a good idea because I assumed that he would condition my hair pretty well afterwards. However, after he washed my hair twice, he only put conditioner on my roots and then put me under the dryer. After I came out my hair was a dry tangled mess. He then proceeded to blow dry my hair with a paddle brush tugging at it roughly. When he finished with the brush, he proceeded to use a fine tooth comb and comb through it. Again he was yanking my hair berating me for not allowing him to cut my hair as he wanted to ( he kept saying I needed a trim and even was bold enough to to tell my Aunt and mother that he would MAKE me trim my hair) purposely damaging it to the point that he wanted to cut. He then roughly ran a hot comb through my hair yanking it through as well. At the end he tried to disguise the damage by lightly bumping the ends under but it was very obvious that it was severely damaged and the ends were strings. To make matters worse he didn't use a leave-in conditioner before he blow dried my hair and neither a heat protectant before he began to flat iron. As a natural person we work very hard on our hair and to have someone to purposely damage your hair just to make a point is frustrating, heartbreaking, and infuriating. I had to put Shea butter in my hair to keep it from frizzing up because of the extreme lack of moisture and damage created by the passive aggressive stylist. However, I didn't let him ruin my weekend and enjoyed my brother's med school graduation and my cousin's high school graduation. And I will go back to Chicago and enjoy my beautiful life there and my budding legal career. Billy you don't win, in fact thank you because now I will be using my Olaplex every week instead of once a month. Can't wait to see how much more will my hair will thrive in the future.

Great place to get a perfect haircut. I miss her greatly while in Florida. She knows what she is…read moredoing.

Reasons I love the Salon:…read more 1. I totally forgot about an appointment. Not only did Grace book me for her next opening, she was nice to me and gave me a great haircut even though I TOTALLY VAMPED on my first appointment. Also, I called her as my school was freaking out over a tornado warning to let her know I'd be late to my second appointment, and she was very nice about it and said she would wait and just to call when the storm warning was over to check in about whether we could meet that day or reschedule. (As it turned out, I was only going to be about 10 minutes late, and she was able to see me that day). 2. No negative gossipy-vibe here, and no pressure to tell Grace my life story. I really appreciate a stylist who is friendly and kind, but not trying to force some intimate connection at our first meeting. Maybe it's the difference between 20 year-old me and 30-something year-old me, but I don't need a new best friend every time I get a haircut. 3. Grace really listened to me. I went in with a chin-length bob, which a stylist at another salon had given me when I showed her a picture of a much-shorter cut for my very-curly hair. Grace instantly saw what I wanted, and was enthusiastic about helping me go from long to short. Three weeks later, and I still love this haircut, whether I blow-dry it or not. Grace was also careful not to badmouth the stylist who gave me the dreaded shoulder-bob, affording her the benefit of the doubt. "Maybe," she said, "she'd had someone cry in her chair that day, and she was worried you didn't really want to go short." But I did, and Grace helped me, and I will be back again and again! Practical tip: You can park in the lot behind the Gilmore and go in the back door (watch your step going in) or on the street on Madison.
