When I needed to have the heads reworked on my LS7 powered ZO6 Corvette, I talked to a good friend and fellow Z06 owner who had experience in that area. He instantly recommended AHP. I ordered an AHP reworked set of LS7 heads with new SS valves. In a couple months they arrived, looking like finely polished LS7 artwork. With a lot of planning and ordering of supporting parts and fluids and specialized tooling, installation was seamless. My LS7 had close to 32K miles so I had been getting nervous about possibly dropping a valve, so it was a relief to finally get the heads swapped out. It started up easily on the first try and ran perfectly. What a relief! I boxed up my original heads and shipped them off to AHP for my core exchange. Full exchange value. if everything including the used valves were reusable was 2,000.00, I was hoping to maybe get 1500.00 back but only expecting 1000.00. I drove the car normally for about 700 miles before getting the opportunity to take it to the Dragon's Tail to really test it out. I was blown away buy my cars full potential on the Dragon's tail, had no problem keeping up with two brand new C8 Z06's for 11 miles of 318 sharp curves, driving mostly in 2nd gear and revving up to 6K rpm multiple times. To say I am happy with the performance of my Z06 with the new AHP heads is an Understatement! Then to add icing to the cake, Kohle, the owner of AHP, sent me an email to let me know that although almost all of my valve guides were well out of limits, my valves and heads were reusable so I would be getting my full 2K dollar core exchange! Had my LS2 engine redone at AHP a while back, after the previous shop's valve porting job ended up with a pinhole that let in coolant into a cylinder after few years. That previous shop had closed, so all the searches led to AHP as the corvette shop to go to in socal. First of all, the location is great for towing a disabled car. Straight off the 110 freeway, then one left turn into a deserted and wide street. Turn into street to the right and tow truck can back onto the shop driveway for easy unload. Corvette engine work is not cheap any where, so the differentiator for me was these guys know engines. There were new engines on stands around the shop and owner, Kohle, is proud to show off his shop and work and is a straight forward down to earth kind of a guy. His specialty seems to be head and valve work, so what else could I hope for? Damage was enough and decided to redo the entire top of the engine and internals with upgraded parts and all to give the car an entirely new life. During the build, Kohle reported something did not end up right on the old block after machining/line honing? Since the honing didn't go right, he stepped up to replace the block with a new block to make for a total new long block! The guy knows LS engines inside outside, so I don't think one can do any better on engine work anywhere else. Seems like folks even ship cars from far away to get engines done here. I am pretty anal about details and double checking, so seeing all the marks on every bolt/nut they torque just gave me an extra peace of mind that the builder has an anal system of doing things right as well, lol. After the new engine, there was a hiccup discovered several months later, and when requested Kohle to check it out, he dove in to find the hiccup and make it fully all right again to make sure the engine will be bulletproof! I was finally convinced to get the heads redone before the motor grenaded and after talking to several different people who offer similar services, I decided to go with AHP. It is long overdue, but I thought it time to give American Heritage Performance a review, especially since I frequent their site to see how I might be tempted. I'm glad that American Heritage Performance is flourishing with excellent reputation and that so many countless LS owners have benefited from Kohle's expertise over the years. I contacted Kohle maybe 6-8 years ago in regard to the heads issue on my 2008 Z06. I had also called other shops at that time but was displeased by their lack of knowledge, professionalism, courtesy and patience. They couldn't even tell me what type of valve seals they used without putting me on hold to find out. Worse, I was told that I would never have access to speak with the mechanic or any one working directly on my own car. One business was borderline rude. On the other hand, when I called AHP, I was immediately impressed and very surprised that Kohle--the owner and mechanic himself--personally answered the phone and spent so much time with me, and he did so in great detail. His assistance and kind professionalism was refreshing, exceptional and outstanding. He flawlessly answered every question I could think of without hesitation and often elaborated with much more specific information and the reasoning behind it. I'm grateful to have been treated with such unhurried and authentic kindness and respect by someone in his specialty. It's time to update my review on American Heritage Performance. Let's jump to the punch line since this review will be a tad long - these guys are simply the best. Kohle runs a top notch performance shop and has far exceeded every single one of my expectations. Before, during, and after the build, it has been the type of experience every shop should strive to provide for their customers. I seriously cannot thank AHP and his team enough. AHP re-built my custom LSX 454 motor and brought it back to life. I'm now well into 3,000 miles on the build and it has been absolutely amazing. It's exactly the type of experience you want when you spend this much on a car. The fact that Kohle was able to do this entire build in house is so important to me -- R&R the motor, assemble/disassemble the long and short block, and most importantly, all of the machine work is done at the shop. That's what really sold me on having Kohle do this -- a one stop shop with all the necessary equipment, machines and tools. He's one of the most anal, meticulous and knowledgeable people I've met. Quadruple checking all his work and clearances. That's really important when you are building a forged iron block monster that you want to last. And, it shows in the end product. To the story. About 2 years ago, I had another somewhat well-known shop (I won't name drop) build and install a brand new custom LSX 454 motor for my Corvette C6. Let's just say it did not go well. Long story short, I decided it was time to cut my losses with this other shop. I reached out to Kohle, explained my situation, we talked through pricing and options, and I towed my car to him the same week. Within a day of dropping the car off, Kohle had run through all the diagnostics and tests, presented me the facts and asked what I wanted him to do. I told him to tear apart my almost new motor with maybe 800 miles and let's hope it's just the piston rings. It was unfortunately much worse than we could have expected. Despite all the issues that Kohle continued to find in this build, he was very fair in pricing, very quick to order the new parts, and kept in constant communication with me throughout the whole process -- including pictures of the build. What car owner doesn't love seeing constant pictures of their baby? In the end, we had to replace all the bearings, bore the block, replace the pistons and rings, and then continue with all the typical honing of the block, polishing the crank, etc. As I said, much worse than just replacing piston rings. Oh, and the clutch was previously improperly installed so we had to send it off to McLeod to be rebuilt. Despite all the surprises, Kohle was on top of it and took care of me from beginning to end. And, as I said, was more than fair on the pricing. There was many things that he could have nickle and dimed me for, but he didn't. He's such a stand up guy that just wants to get the job done, and get it done right. So many shops could learn a thing or two from him. Here we are 3,000 miles later on this re-build with seriously zero issues on the motor. It's truly running flawlessly and made exactly what I wanted on the dyno. To this day, Kohle continues to provide amazing support and responses for all my questions many months after he finished. I found AHP on yelp at the beginning of the year (2021) and also through the Corvette Forums, and contacted Kohle about lowering my C8. It has the front lift so lowering collars are needed. He answered my many questions and emails thoroughly and patiently. I actually waited a couple of months before lowering it as I wanted to see how my aftermarket wheel offset affected fender clearance. When I arrived, I was pleasantly greeted by Kohle and Ron took my information and reviewed the job. Just talking with these guys made me comfortable. Several days later (due to my own scheduling) I arrived back to pick up my Vette, only to be greeted by Jake once more. Without asking, he gave my wife and I a complete tour of the shop including there machine room, engine assembly area, and brand new engine dyno. How they manage to do so much in such a compact area is beyond me. He led us back outside while he finished up my paperwork and grabbed my vehicle for me. Walked me through the invoice and made sure I did not have any questions on anything. For someone like myself who trusts mechanics about as far as you can throw them, I had an absolutely amazing experience working with AHP. While the work I had done was not an over the top build or multi-thousand dollar repair, they treated myself and my car as if it were.
