Came in for an alternator but left with a mechanic for life! Ramiro is super cool and his team always work hard to get the job done right. If you're looking for an honest mechanic with quality work and a fast turn around this is the spot. Even on big jobs I am always shocked the work is done so quickly I typically come in at 8am and get a call in the afternoon. Unlike a parking ticket, this is a bill I'm always happy to pay for! Tell Ramiro Harold sent you! Lol

I have been going to get my car issues fixed by Ramiro and his guys for over a year now (brakes, oil changes, body damage, and most recently a cracked windshield). They are always efficient, trustworthy, reliable, and helpful. I highly recommend them :)

These guys are so good. They are friendly helpful and always come through with a positive attitude at an affordable price. They are quick with repairs and extremely honest. I highly recommend them. They've fixed my Jeep and BMW. They are AMAZING!

First of all this review is long overdue. I highly recommend this business for just about anyone…read moreneeding a transmission repair on their vehicle(s). The person that you definitely want to speak with is Marco, he's the owner. Well over a year and a half ago I was experiencing hesitation problems with my 2014 Ford Focus. Other transmission repair shops said that the problem was related to the transmission control module and that I needed to take my car to the Ford dealership. The mechanics at the Ford dealership said that the transmission control module was working okay and that I needed to do a transmission rebuild or overhaul ($3000 plus) including replacing the engine mounts. My car barely had 32,000 miles on it. I paid Ford their diagnostic fee ($200) and I left. Fortunately I discovered Lomita Transmission and it's highly knowledgeable owner. Marco did a thorough check of my car transmission and verified that the transmission control module needed replacing and that a transmission overhaul or rebuild wasn't even needed. He got the people at Ford to replace the transmission control module at no cost, since it was covered under an extra warranty program. I paid Marco his diagnostic fee ($200) and I had him change out the transmission fluid for an extra ($200). My car has been running fine ever since. Thank you, Marco.

Great estimate. Didn't over promise or overcharge. Very trustworthy. Will use again for sure.read more

They had my car for three full weeks, which was far longer than I was originally told. When I finally got my vehicle back, it was in the exact same condition as when I dropped it off--despite being told the spark plugs had been replaced and the issue had been fixed. Not only did I waste weeks without my car, but I now have to take it somewhere else to actually get the problem resolved. When confronted about a refund, the owner ignored our concerns and decided to keep our money even though we didn't agree to replace the spark plugs when we simply wanted a car scan. The lack of communication, the excessive delay, and the fact that the issue wasn't fixed at all made this whole process incredibly frustrating. Please AVOID this shop at all costs!

Harbor City

Well...I finally got the time to write a review on AAMCO Transmissions Harbor City. I have had…read moreprevious cars serviced here before and it is always a positive experience. Three weeks ago I bought a used Ford Explorer to utilize in my mobile business. I noticed it had some shifting issues. I took it to AAMCO to get diagnosed. They right away let me know what it was and how long it would take and how much it would cost to fix. As previous times, I trusted AAMCO with my Explorer and told them to go ahead and correct everything that needed correction. They rebuilt the transmission, 4 X4 & transfer case. Best thing is that they kept me in the loop. Informed me of the progress and let me know ETA of finished job. All I can say is that it is very nice to have a repair shop like AAMCO , where you don't have to babysit them. I have had other auto mechanic shops misdiagnose a symptom that later cost me more to fix. The bottom line is that nowadays it is hard to find a reliable, knowledgable, honest & dependable auto repair shop. AAMCO Harbor City is all that and more. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PLACE. Don't settle for anything less when it comes to your car!

"Double-F (beep-beep) M-C-O!"…read more It's been 18 months since my last review, and unfortunately, it's time for an update on this AAMCO franchise in the Harbor Gateway area of Los Angeles. AAMCO's tagline is "People Who Know Go to AAMCO." Based on our experience, we suggest a more appropriate slogan: "Trust Your First Impression!" Granted, not all AAMCO franchise locations are the same, but our experience at this particular location was enough to make us turn around and walk away. If you value your time, expect straightforward communication, and simply want the service you requested, consider yourself warned. Here's what happened. We scheduled an appointment with Ted, the primary customer service contact, on Friday morning. Our appointment was set for the following Monday at 9:00 a.m. On Monday, we arrived at 8:45 a.m. and spoke directly with Ted. He remembered our conversation and confirmed that he would honor the promised veteran's discount on a transmission flush. Great! So far, so good. Then things took an unexpected turn. Ted began explaining the service and informed me that I would NOT be permitted to wait at the shop while my vehicle was being serviced because my presence might make the mechanic feel overwhelmed. WHAT?! Since when does a customer wanting to remain present during a routine service appointment become a problem for the service provider? That explanation struck me as both unusual and unreasonable. Without getting into every detail of our increasingly strained conversation, I began to get the distinct impression that our simple request for a transmission flush might turn into an exercise in upselling, potentially involving a laundry list of additional repairs or, worse, a recommendation for an entirely new transmission. Let me be clear: I came in requesting a transmission flush. I did not come in asking for a transmission diagnosis, a list of unrelated repairs, or a sales pitch for a new transmission. Perhaps my suspicions were unfounded. We never proceeded with the service, so I cannot claim to know what they would ultimately have recommended or charged. But the interaction had already undermined my confidence in the business. And then there was the parking lot. Approximately two dozen vehicles sat in various stages of disassembly, rather than being inside service bays. Seeing that many vehicles in various states of repair, combined with my conversation with Ted, only reinforced my growing discomfort about leaving our vehicle there. Call it intuition. Call it experience. I call it a reason to walk away. My response to Ted was simple: "Thank you for wasting my time." We left without authorizing any work. THE BOTTOM LINE A customer should not have to feel uncomfortable simply for asking reasonable questions about a service appointment. Clear communication, professional treatment, and confidence in the people working on your vehicle should be the bare minimum. I cannot speak to every AAMCO franchise, nor can I tell you what would have happened had we left our vehicle there. I can only share what happened to us. At this Harbor Gateway location, the combination of the conversation, the restriction on waiting for our vehicle, and the overall impression of the operation was enough to send us elsewhere. My recommendation? Trust your first impression, ask questions, and never feel obligated to leave your vehicle somewhere you aren't comfortable. AAMCO may advertise that people who know go to AAMCO. Based on this experience, my advice is a little different: Know what you want. Know what you're agreeing to. And know when it's time to walk away.

AMAZING!!! I was…read moreintroduced to Gilbert Jr by John of John's Auto Care from across the street. A friend of mine talked me into bringing my vehicle to John after I received a $6,200.00 estimate from National Transmission for rebuilding the transmission on my 2005 Range Rover HSE. My sphincter puckered with this price so I figured it can't hurt to get a second quote and I'm glad I did!!! John took a look at the car and after doing so he decided he didn't want to mess with the transmission (not his specialty). He suggested Gilberto's across the street. Said he'd worked with them in the past and that they'd always treated his customers right. (I like an honest shop that doesn't claim to do what they can't.) Gilbert Jr. took a look at the car and came back to me with an estimate of $3,000 (HALF THE PRICE OF NATIONAL). I thought I wasn't hearing correctly, but I was. When all was said and done, my final price came to $3,038.34. Moral of the story... If your car needs it's transmission worked on, take it to a place that is honest and won't try to take all of your money in one fell swoop. If you car needs engine or general maintenance work, bring it to John's Auto Care on Normandie, and remember to stop by Gilberto's and say hi for when you need them down the road. (Ha, get it, a car pun. I know I'm stupid but it's funny.)
