Brandon likes to make excuses for not responding, he cherry picks projects and according to the California State Licensing Board he abandons projects. BEWARE! He never gets back to you in order to be a client. He will send a quote and ghost! He will tell you he is busy with other projects and make it your problem. I had a great experience with Brandon for an electrical issue at my house. I originally called him after finding some sketchy electrical work in a switch box in a new house I bought. I know enough of the basics to explain what I thought the issue was. Brandon stayed on the phone with me for 30 minutes asking questions and giving suggestions of things I could try. Everyone else I called didn't want to spend time having me explain the issue and instead just went straight to invoice writing. I appreciate that Brandon tried to help me over the phone in case I could solve it myself, saving me money. Ultimately I asked him to come out to take a look for himself since it didn't seem like there was an easy solution. He came out a few days later. Coincidentally, when he arrived I was frantically trying to figure out why my cement driveway was literally pumping water out of its cracks. Brandon was here for the electrical issue and not this and I already had a plumber scheduled to come out for an emergency call. But Brandon immediately started helping me out by checking the water meter and a number of the irrigation solenoids. In about 10 minutes he root caused it to be a massive leak in one of the irrigation pipes (we're not sure which but that's for another day) and was able to shut off the water line to the irrigation to stop the flooding. His whole goal was to save me a bunch of money by no longer needing a pricey emergency plumber to come out on a Saturday. He didn't even charge me for this adhoc troubleshooting. Because I was interested in the electrical work he was doing, he explained everything he was testing, what he thought the issue was, how the wiring should be done, and what new wires needed to be added. Ultimately, he determined that a 3-way switch was set up incorrectly and the box didn't have the appropriate hot wires and neutrals needed to get things working safely and to code. He charged a fee to come out (which is expected) and gave an estimate for the work to be done if I wanted him to fix the wiring (minus this initial fee if I went with him), but he also recommended I give it a shot myself given I had the knowledge to run the new wires. I really appreciated the fact that he wasn't trying to just charge me a bunch of money that was potentially unnecessary. If I could give Brandon Guillen and American Grade Construction (AGC) zero stars I would. We started a bathroom and kitchen remodel in Nov 2020 and it quickly spiraled into multiple change orders, him firing his entire staff, and then we fired him after he abandoned the project and did not meet the project deadline of July 23, 2021. After we fired him on Aug 9th it went from bad to worse. He called 911 on us, convinced his sub contractors to harass us, filed an improper mechanic lien, and had his subs also file improper mechanic liens. We have spent hundreds of hours and thousands of dollars to not only finish our project but to to go through the courts and bond system to remove those liens. Contacted Brandon through yelp and he responded within an hour and scheduled an appointment to come by the property to take a look at what the job would require. We identified that the lights would need to be replaced but that they were an older style lighting that isn't sold at big box stores anymore. (Other companies told me they would just use new style lights which wouldn't match) We set up a follow up appointment and Brandon was able to locate the exact type of lighting needed! Sure enough within the same day he was able to purchase the news lights and install them and overall fixed my issue. After the job he made sure to clean up and keep and leave everything better than when he came. Will definitely give him a call for more jobs when needed! read more

My first non-food, project related review, ideal timing for our first home improvement project. It's best to start off the review by stating that due to the layout of our place, we were specific on what we needed in our bathroom reno. I'm also in sales so I'm naturally persistent and direct. That being said, American Grade met all of our expectations. Brandon was easy to work with and eased a lot of the anxiety a typical homeowner has about upgrading anything/everything. He also knew his staff's capabilities which was a huge help in accomplishing our project (i.e. we have a 13.5' ft high ceiling). In the grand scheme of things, our project was small, borderline tiny. But when treated with the same respect and urgency by Brandon and his team with a busy schedule, as a consumer, we felt well taken care of. My tips for everyone looking to do a home improvement project, on top of take a good look at Brandon and his company, is (1) always have a budget to work with, (2) always have extra finances on the side in case things don't work out, (3) no question is a dumb question, (4) expect delays that's out of anyone's control, and (5) get ready to fall in love with your new space! Owner at the beginning was very nice and professional, but when job timeline fell behind (without communication to us) and we complained he demanded payment immediately; abandoned the job when we refused to pay immediately (invoice terms were not provided). Contractor was disorganized, did not seem to have enough staff or was over committed with multiple jobs, trying to do work on the weekends. Demo started without containment left house & clothing covered in dust. Took payment for materials that were refunded back to his card, and then told us that we owed him money for materials. Felt like he was getting jobs confused with many refunds going on. Clearly inventory was not tracked and he even left materials behind that are still in our garage. Terrible customer service, made us feel like we were a job just for extra cash and not a priority, immature attitude and very bad experience overall. read more
