American Foam Experts re-did my roof in summer of 2021. As part of the roof work, they replaced two double-bubble skylights. One of those skylights has significant cracking throughout the interior bubble (to the point where pieces are falling into the house). In June, they stated they would order a replacement and have it installed before end of October. In November they informed me they've changed their stance to this issue being caused by debris or tree limbs. The interior bubble has significant damage where there is no damage to the exterior bubble, and we have no trees anywhere near the rooftop. The owner came to my home at one point and looked at the damage, looked me square in the eye, shook my hand, and told me he'd make good on the work... before disappearing once more. Throughout the entire process I have had to follow up multiple times with no response, had to re-share my contract multiple times (apparently they don't keep records), and generally had a terrible experience. When I posted this review to google I received harassing messages from them immediately... so turns out they are highly selective in when and where they choose to respond. I would not recommend working with AFE if it can at all be avoided. Truly one of the worst businesses I've ever had the displeasure of engaging with. Had Solabrite out and they ended up solving everything for me. Should have just gone with them from the beginning. AFE is pure garbage, through and through. read more

I had a leak around my sky light after having the roof done 3&1/2 yes ago. After a few follow up calls they worked around my time frame and scheduled the work which took all of 5 minutes. Hard to find good staff now a days- don't hold this against them. Like anything it is up to the customer to follow up with what they need to their satisfaction. Sort of like going to the doctors these days. Our foam roof keeps the house cool in the summer and warm in the winter. Still happy with the service and product read more

They don't honor their warranty. I had a leak in the same place three years in a row. They came out to "fix" it every time I called but the fix only lasted a month or two. I offered to pay extra to fix it correctly and they tried to sell me a new roof, despite having seven years left on the warranty. read more

If you are looking to have this company install foam on your residential roof, I highly discourage you from doing so. Their customer service is atrocious and they are less reliable than my teenage daughter when scheduling a time for them to apply foam to your roof or apply a patch....only to ghost you while throwing various staff under the bus and even blaming the customer for needing them to come out and patch their own work. Their main business is larger commercial and governmental contracts (ie. schools) and it appears that they are trying to diversify their customer base by going into the residential market....but they clearly have no idea how to service this market appropriately. All of their "smaller" jobs (the residential ones) are lowest on the list of priority and it is very clear that they have no idea how to provide even a baseline level of acceptable service to the residential market. So, unless you are a school district or the owner of a big box store...take your business elsewhere! I regret not looking on Yelp before deciding to use them because I can see that there are many other reviews with a similar sentiment and I could have avoided my current situation; which is trying to figure out how to patch my own roof before a rain storm because American Foam Experts had to reschedule their visit to my home for the second time, in order to tend to the school that they have already "fully committed" to. read more

They refuse to honor their warranty. We have leaks all over the place and now we have to try to find another company to come out and fix it, paying now the second time for the same roof. Shame on you American Foam Experts. After calling over and over we finally got someone out to look at the issues and we were told our warranty was only for 3 years and was no longer valid. The contract between American Foam Experts and Analytical Environmental Services clearly states a 15 year warranty. Since then, we have attempted many more calls and have gotten nothing but the run around. read more

Roof was completely redone in 2019. Flat roof Eichler. Every year so far there has been a leak in the exact same location. Every year I have requested for them to check it out and honor their warranty, they have "patched" it up but it is still leaking 3 years later in 2022 in the same spot. I have now requested the company to repair the roof several times this winter, they have come once (confirmed by my wife and security cameras), and it is still leaking. Thank goodness we live in a dry area? Hope to get my roof completely redone (not "patched") and not have to stress about leaking roof every time it rains. read more

American Foam Experts, a company we went with because it was recommended to us, never finished the job we paid them for. Also: 1) With the skylights, they put in the wrong size and left the wood unstained and unvarnished. 2) They left masking tape up at our clerestory windows, one of which is broken (they agreed to pay for it but never did). 3) They left an inch or two of what looks like fake snow visible from all of our living-room windows because they never tapered off the foam. We paid American Foam Experts close to $30,000 in September 2023. Between October 2023 and May 2024 we called and emailed them to ask them to finish the job. One person said they would organize it, but we never heard anything more. The worst thing is that American Foam Experts never came back to complete the work we paid them for and then stopped answering calls and emails from us, from our property managers and from the realtor who was selling our house and who explained that the unfinished job would have to be part of the disclosure agreement. They never replied. Make sure that this company has completed any job for you before you make a final payment. read more

American Foam Experts has absolutely terrible customer service after you pay them for their initial service. From my family's experience, everything seemed great up until after the job on our building was complete and we paid the bill. However, to our extreme disappointment, they had been completely ignoring us whenever we tried to schedule an appointment for repairs on their work. Several issues arose not long after they finished our roof. We began to see problems only after about six months, and they've been gradually getting worse because no one from American Foam Experts is willing to fix the job they installed. We had to call them several times over the years (when they should have come immediately in the first place) to finally get someone to come to look at the items that needed fixing. The guy that came to take a look had the audacity to say that the main reason we called them (for all the fascia corners coming undone and a long piece of fascia even falling from the roof within the first six months of installation) wasn't even their work. Well, we paid them to do all the roof-related work. Otherwise, we wouldn't have hired them in the first place. I still can't believe they won't admit that they were the ones that installed the fascia as part of the entire job. We originally selected them for our roof job based on their Yelp reviews, but now we know they can't be trusted. Comparing their attitude from before and after installation is like night and day. They do a total 180° on you. They treat you well to get paid and then leave you completely in the dust afterward. The customer service post-installation is so bad that we're seriously thinking of filing complaints against them with the Contractors State License Board (CSLB) and the Better Business Bureau (BBB) if nothing gets resolved soon. American Foam Experts really needs to get their act together. I don't see how they can remain in business if they keep treating their existing clients so poorly. read more

2 stars because they actually came out an extra time, but the roof still leaks. We paid $10,000. Poor customer service and they ignore calls. read more

In 2019, I hired American Foam Experts to install a new foam roof. They failed to replace dry rotted fascia boards when they installed the roof. After they did the roof, I asked them about the rotten and split open fascia boards, they said they could give me a quote to replace them. They never did, so many months later, I finally hired someone else to do it. The entire edge of the roof needed to be refoamed as a result, because the roof flashing was nailed to the fascia. The one good thing they did was to return to refoam the edges after the fascia was replaced. However, there have been multiple leaks in the roof starting soon after the roof was installed. While they did return to patch it, it kept leaking from the same spot and there were other issues. They also did not replace all of the downspouts, as contracted for and had to return to replace them. But the following items are STILL outstanding: 1) they never connected any of the downspouts on the upper roof that now simply unload water to the lower roof. 2) there remains standing water issues that stay long beyond the 24 hour time limit that Bobbie Stepps said was acceptable. 3) they were supposed to return to fix the sloping issues to eliminate the standing water, but have not done so. 4) water literally overflows over the fascia from the standing water pooling during a rainstorm. Because they never fixed the sloping issues so water could be redirected to the downspouts, it just flows over the fascia. 5) the roof had cracked within a few years of the installation. They came back to fill in the cracks, but said they needed to return to spray on the top coat. They never did. 6) I most recently emailed and left voice mail and text messages for them asking them if I could pay them to fix a hole in the roof that a contractor accidentally made or could they tell me what to spray there to fix the hole. They never responded. They have not responded to my numerous inquiries (emails, texts and voice mail messages) to finish the job since 2022 and it is now 2024. In August, I emailed and left a voice mail message that if they don't respond, they are going to leave me with no other options than to write a bad review and report them to their licensing board. They arrogantly still failed to respond. If you want them to take your money and never finish the job or do it incompetently and then ghost you, hire them. Wow, these guys are an honest to god good company. We had our roof serviced by one of their competitors and after a few short years the foam roof started to crack. Their competitor (Armstrong) treated us like dirt but I wont go into that here as I want to highlight American Foam and the representative I spoke with, Paul. Paul came to our home and took a look at the cracks on the top. Paul could have totally gouged us but said that the roof didn't look that bad and that we could wait until next year. He had a sample piece of foam and showed me that there is a huge chunk of foam protecting the roof under the cracks. (Of course, Armstrong wanted to have us respray as usual). I asked Paul to give us a quote to fill in the cracks as we did not want to do a respray now for financial reasons. Paul provided the quote but again advised that we should just wait until we do the respray next year. I greatly appreciated Paul's advice and am looking forward to getting our roof resprayed next summer. Oh, by the way, they provide a 15 year or 20 warranty! Armstrong does 5 year. Over the last 20 years Armstrong has resprayed our roof 3 times, if only we would have found American Foam earlier, it would have saved us tens of thousands of dollars. Literally. Thank you, American Foam and Paul. So refreshing to work with an honest company. We look forward to becoming a paying customer next summer. read more

My impression of this company was much improved after Robyn reached out to me to amend my warranty and answer any outstanding questions and concerns. Looks like Robyn was out of the office for a period of time so there was a gap in office coverage. Robyn was fantastic: very fast to respond, courteous, great follow-through, and provided excellent customer service. She amended my warranty transfer to ensure everything written clearly and correctly. She also double checked with the inspector (Nick) to ensure that my roof is indeed in good condition and no repairs are needed. If you need to contact this company, Robyn is the point of contact. Two years ago, we had a leaking foam roof on my rental property. American Foam Experts installed a roof and it immediately leaked in the same place as before (between the two roofs). They came out and added some flashing. Fast forward two years and we're back in the same situation with a leaking roof. I have since been told that it has been installed incorrectly. The pitched roof should be above the flat roof (it's the opposite) and they ruined a few rows of shingle too. They should have redone that part of the roof before but instead put a bandaid on it. They haven't called me back even with phone calls and multiple emails. I'll update this review if they fix the issue by redoing that part of the roof, fixing the wall, and fixing the shingles that were damaged. They provide a 15 year warranty, we'll see if they stand by it. Update: 1/2/20 After three attempted repairs, I believe American Foam Experts have fixed the roof leaks. The original issue appeared to be related to the foam roof not going under the pitched roof which caused leaking. While I'm not sure why this wasn't done correctly initially, they stood by their work. They also provided me with a reimbursement to fix the wall and repaint the wall to fully rectify the condition of the home. I've worked with multiple contractors and while this was a lengthy process, I appreciate that they stood by their contract. Hence, I have updated my review based on them standing by their warranty and fixing the issue. read more

This is a highly abridged review of American Foam Experts, due to Yelps word limit.. Pros: The crews who came to install our foam roof on two different days were efficient, polite, and communicative. Our new foam roof is keeping our house several degrees cooler so far. Cons: The only cons about the crew, is that the front office told us the crew would call to give us a 30 minute warning of arrival on the days they were showing up, but this did not happen. They were early each time and we had to scramble. not a big deal. Two cons during the installation process (not the fault of the crew. should be the responsibility of the trainers): The crew first cleans off your roof, which for us was basically just blowing off the roof with a giant powerful leaf blower. This blew tiny bits of bitumen/asphalt-like bits of roofing material EVERYWHERE. It was all over our patio, filled our roof gutters, covered our potted plants and outdoor furniture. The roofing bits came blowing in through our chimneys and vents down into our home. It was blown in through vents and cracks in our skylights, down into our lightwells, and covered our internal skylights and stove fan.. which we then had to dismantle and clean out ourselves. This entailed putting on personal respirators, getting on ladders with a shop vac, dismantling the skylights overhead, and vacuuming them and the vents out the best we could. Roofing bits flooded into our kitchen and bathroom while doing this clean out, and it took us two days to clean it all up. The crews should cover all the roof vents and chimneys BEFORE cleaning and leaf blowing. For our job they covered these items after the cleaning and before the application of the spray foam. Second con of installation is the roof flashing they installed on the back of our house is a broad, scratched up piece of ugly brown-green painted metal. It makes the back of our house look ugly and completely contrasts with our house color. They could have installed white flashing like the rest of our trim, or even bare galvanized metal would have been fine if we had a choice. I'm sure AFE doesn't install scratched up seconds for their big commercial jobs without consulting what color the property owners would prefer. Now it's up to us to live with it or hire a painter. Cons dealing with the company: The sales rep/estimator guy was unresponsive and unhelpful in general. The initial estimate meeting at our house seemed rushed and like it was an inconvenience because he had to travel far (AFE advertises serving the whole Bay Area). We have a two story row house in the middle of a block. After assessing the front and back access of our house he assured me that the roofers would access the roof from the front/street side of our house, and not the back. But, when the crews were at our house to install the foam the foreman said they had to access the roof from the back of our house, which meant the whole crew had to tromp back and forth through our garage and first floor living space. The crew was polite about it, but I was really not comfortable with this arrangement, and it would have probably been a deal breaker for me hiring AFE. He said he would get me a quote in two days. A few days later and I had not heard back from him and had to call to get the quote. The quote was the most expensive of the three companies that we got estimates from, which was disappointing, especially since customer reviews for AFE say they are the most affordable. Husband and I both tried calling and texting back that afternoon to negotiate the price a bit, and to sign the contract. He never answered or responded. The office people were polite but didn't know about us or our job. We didn't hear back for many more days. Once we do, we quickly sign and send back the contract, and were assured we'd be scheduled as soon as they got it and our deposit. This also did not happen and took many phone calls and many more days of trying to reach them to get on the books. Our job is suddenly put on the schedule with short notice. We take the days off work so we can be home for the job, and arrange dog sitters so our dogs won't be barking all day at the guys on the roof. To make a long story short, the crew never shows up on the days we were told they would, three different times! When we called, the office would just say sorry, the crew was sent to a big commercial jobs instead of ours! We wasted three days of work over a two week period waiting for no-shows. At this point they had charged us and cashed 90% of the cost of the job, so we were out of that money and at their mercy. Eventually the crews did show up on two different days and finished the job. At the end, the foreman said we would be getting a warranty and owner's package from the office. AFE never sends us warranty until we call for it a couple weeks later, and they don't know what we mean by an "owners package." Sales guy supposed to clarify - never calls us. read more

Gus did a great job keeping me informed and coordinating the scope. I opted for the state sponsored HERO program for energy efficiency loans. Working the HERO loan with Gus's support from American Foam was seamless. The crew worked fast and was open to my feedback and made appropriate changes. I chose American Foam Experts because they seemed competitively priced and eager for the work but I should have went with someone more professional and reliable. The crew was polite and hard working but the office personnel and sales reps are horrible and unreliable. They failed to return numerous calls before the installation, no showed on an appointment to inspect the roof, and seemed to have no accountability for their lack of professionalism. After the roof was installed and it rained for the first time, I noticed they created a low spot above my walkway to the front door. This creates a steady stream of water that falls on anyone walking to my front door in the rain. It should be a simple issue to fix if I could get them to come out but they seem to not care bout my roof now that they have taken payment. Ive called 7 times and no one has called me back. Recently, I expressed my frustration regarding their poor communication and they scheduled an appointment to come look at the roof. Two hours prior to that inspection they cancelled after I had already taken the day off of work and requested to reschedule the next day. The next day when they were supposed to be here, they failed to show up or even call. Trust me, pay the extra money and go with a reliable company. They rush the projects, have a horrible staff running the office, and do not care about the roof or the warranty of the roof once it is installed. read more

The customer service is so awful that if I could give American Foam Experts negative stars, I would. PLEASE DO NOT USE THEM -- you will end up feeling enraged like me. In fact, I signed up to Yelp specifically to leave this review. The previous owners of my house hired them in 2018, and after I began exploring solar panel installation late last year, I called American Foam Experts to schedule a time for them to inspect their work from several years ago and confirm the roof is in good shape. They claim to have a 15-year warranty -- but what good is a warranty if they refuse to schedule an inspection? I have been calling weekly, sometimes twice a week, for nearly THREE months, and if I'm even able to get a scheduler on the phone (rather than going from the receptionist straight to voicemail), they either promise to get back to me soon with a proposed day and time (and NEVER do) or claim that they need to speak first with their supervisor about scheduling (I'm not sure why they need to speak with a supervisor to get a simple inspection on the books). Also, there is one particular receptionist who is exceptionally rude. I'm completely baffled that she is still employed. I did have other roofing companies come out for inspections (the communication and scheduling process with them was seamless), and each of them confirmed that American Foam Experts used the cheapest material available, that the foam was not applied thickly enough to begin with, the seal has disappeared and the roof needs to be re-sealed, there are rusted areas on the roof, and portions of the flat roof metal flashing are no longer functioning as they should (and during the recent rains, water has been gushing over the side like little waterfalls). The office at American Foam Experts seems really dysfunctional, and I would NOT entrust something as important as your roof to this awful company. I haven't loathed a company more than this in an extremely long time, and I am certain that since they were able to get the former homeowner's business back in 2018, they have zero intention now of following up on their claim of a 15-year warranty. read more

We were performing a tenant improvement at our warehouse in Oakland and had over 40+ new roof penetrations ranging from large AC units, HVAC Ducts, Drainage Lines, Sewer Vents, Electrical Conduits, Gas Pipelines, and pretty much any types of penetrations you can name. We had called a few other companies in January, but most of them didn't really seem interested in the job. When we called American Foam Experts, they had quickly replied to our request for a quote, and they were prompt to schedule a site meeting with us to go over the details. Due to the rain and our construction schedule, we had to postpone the repairs for a couple of months, but when we finally found a break in the weather, we were able to request American Foam Experts to come out to help us out. They were able to work around our construction schedule as well as the crazy weather (non stop on and off rain) we had this year. Their crews came to our property three separate times to perform the work - 1. Foam Repair, 2. Cleaning, 3. Resealing. They had separate different crews with their respective equipment to perform the different work, and each and every single time, we were impressed with their crew and happy with the outcome. In order to meet our schedule as well as beat the new round of rains, their crews came out on a Sunday morning to finish the job! American Foam Expert's crews were professional, fast, and thorough. Their office staff were also prompt and easy to work with. The company gave us a 15 year warranty for our roof as well - now we can go on with our business without having to worry about our roof until our next construction phase. Thanks guy! read more

The first phase of my project was replacing the 30+ year old roof. WOW, the process of finding the right type of roof product for our geodesic dome was significant. My goal was to maintain the design of the geodesic dome, while improving form and function of the roof. After getting multiple bids for traditional shingled roofs that were at insanely high prices, I came across images of wine vats sprayed by American Foam Experts (AFE) that used a combination of polyurethane, polyurea and aliphatic coatings. The idea of using non-traditional residential products was a winner for me and this application not only met my design goals, but most importantly providing superior fire protection, water proofing, insulation and cost savings . I called AFE and Nick came out to the project. We worked together during all phases of the process and with Nick's experience and the crews expertise, the roof application was seamless. What I truly appreciated about the experience with AFE is that they allowed me to bring to life my vision for the project. Good Job AFE!!!came read more

When my wife and I were looking to repair the old foam roof on our San Mateo home, we called the big foam roofing company we all hear on the radio everyday and they were a joke. Their appraiser came to look at the roof and didn't have a ladder and asked to borrow ours. He didn't actually go on the roof, he just climbed up a ladder and gave a quick look over the edge. This made it so he didn't actually see the part of the roof that was primarily damaged, nor could he see on top of the 2nd story addition. He gave us a quote of over $25K, said they'd get to it next spring and pressured us to sign right away. I said no, we're going to shop around. I knew full well the quote would change once the workers got on the roof and say the more damaged part of the roof. Boy am I glad I found Gus and American Foam Experts. When I called his number the owner of the company actually answered the phone (who still does that?) and was able to pull up a satellite image of our roof where he spotted the damaged part right away. Communication was excellent between email and text. He came out the next day on his own to inspect every inch of the roof and found out we just needed a total replace of one section and then he could recoat the whole roof. His quote was lower than the quasi-quote we received from the big company and his warranty is twice as long. His crew was out within a couple of weeks to begin prepping and a week or so later the whole job was done and complete within two days. Our roof looks brand new now and all leaking has stopped. Gus kept a clean work site with a minimum of interruption. I can't recommend them highly enough. DO NOT go with the big Foam Roofing company until you give Gus a chance to look at your roof. read more

Paul and Johnny helped me spray a layer of foam on top of my flat roof. Our very small attic isn't insulated (tough to bc we have knob and tube wiring running throughout), so we were looking for a solution to add insulation without requiring a major remodel. We stumbled on AFE and foam roofs, and it has worked wonders. I actually just replaced the roof in November, so they added just 1.5 inches of high density foam on top. I keep a hygrometer in my attic and on a hot sunny day like today (79F outside), my attic reached 77F inside. It reached 105F on a similar day in August before we did this work! Our upstairs is noticeably cooler thanks to AFE! They were fast, responsive and dependable, and very competitive on price. read more

A salesman from the company contacted me pretty quickly after, I'd say about a day or two after my initial call. The young man was very professional and made the whole contract and scheduling process incredibly easy and made it out the next day to give me a quote - very decently priced for the size of the job and the busyness of their already established schedule. The roof was replaced within the week, very quickly without any problems. Great job American Foam Experts! Thanks again! read more

I called for a limited area patch to a foam roof in Berkeley. Gus listed carefully listened and explained why his company is not set up for small jobs, and why small area patches are problematic and risky for all foam roofers. He showed a deep understanding of the foam system, and a willingness to explain his reasoning. Thanks Gus. For homeowners foam roofs are great in many ways, but they can't be patched like shingle roofs. If you need to add a skylight, solar mount, or repair mechanical damage, be prepared for a $3000 minimum just to get the truck on site. In this case Gus's minimum was even more: $5000. That's too high for the small area involved, and I'll try elsewhere or try to rent a two part foam rig. read more

We hired American Foam Experts to save us from the solar oven of our flat roof, hills house. Gus was very patient over the phone in explaining to me the general process, product standards, and expected results. He even gave me the contact information for 4 other clients that had similar issues -- among them, a commercial warehouse, and a pre-fab home with a flat roof. All of them were really pleased with AFE, and made me confident that they were an honest/reputable company, and they weren't trying to up-sell me. Installation of the foam roof was shockingly quick and easy and within literally hours, there was a 15 degree difference in our house. Since then (3 years ago), our house has stayed warmer in the winter and cooler in the spring/summer/fall. Over the course of the next few years, I noticed some leakage issues with a cosmetic portion of the roof that at the time, we had agreed to not apply the foam, since it wasn't over the living areas of the house. When the AFE guys were down the street on another job (and another satisfied flat roof owner!), I asked if they could come by and see if they had any suggestions on what could be done. I had also asked a few contractors for their suggestions, which included everything from ripping out the cosmetic portion to rebuilding the whole thing. Bobby was incredibly quick to say that the guys would come over and fix it for free (!!!!!) since it would be a small job, and something that we had all underestimated with the initial installation. Although it took a while to fit into their schedule, the guys came over to assess and treat the issue. When the leaking persisted (albeit in a different area... damn water), they came back again... the DAY after CHRISTMAS, to try a different strategy. And it worked. I'm so thrilled to have worked with them. I know that if I have ANY questions at all, they are available to answer them. read more

American Foam Experts repaired and re-coated our slightly older, residential flat foam roof. Bobby and his team were all helpful, professional, responsive and flexible throughout a somewhat complicated, multi-stage project. The finished work was well-done and it was a good experience - I'd work with them again. read more
