    Subaru Outback
    Mina S.

My husband and I were struggling for months to help my mom find a car until we got to American Fleet. We were immediately greeted upon arrival by JJ and were provided with amazing service up front. JJ and Sam walked us through what they had in terms of their inventory and discussed with us what we were looking for so that they could suggest the options that matched what my mom was looking for. They then were able to show us exactly the kinds of vehicles that met my moms needs and wants and she found a perfect fit with a Subaru outback that had all the features she wanted while still in her budget. Throughout the experience JJ and Sam were so patient and helpful as we decided on what car would be the one. We felt at ease and not under any pressure or rush to make a selection, they didn't focus on pushing us to buy but rather provided us with a calm and supportive experience. This means so much to us because this was my moms first time buying and financing a car after having the same car for 11 years. After we found her dream car, we went into the office and were able to set up our financing with JJ. He laid out all of our options and explained everything thoroughly and answered all of our questions. This was the easiest and most pleasant car buying experience we have ever had. I definitely plan on being a return customer in the future because of the amazing customer service that JJ and Sam provide and because they have a great variety of cars available on the lot. This is the type of dealership that gets you what you want and makes you comfortable along the way.

Remember these are used vehicle sellers. All they want is your money and they do not worry about repeat business. Get your mileage in writing. They will not put it on your documents. Ask for a BIT inspection before purchase or the last BIT report the vehicle had. Ask for the life on the brakes and if you are purchasing a manual transmission the clutch like. If they say they cannot know they are not telling the truth. It can be measured and seen on the semi truck. If the truck is from the east coast or anywhere with lots of snow look for rust. New tires mean nothing. If the tires are worn deduct money cause you can buy them elsewhere for cheaper. Does the truck or equipment have a service history? If they said no then don't buy it. Cause BIT inspections and service records are important for DOT and MCP. Later model? Does not matter. Anything the sales person says is covered get it in writing spelled out. These guys are just looking to move it out. Just remember freightliner trucks are cheapest trucks. Low quality and cheap low grade parts. Gives the USA a bad name. If you have an experience driver test the truck make sure he runs it through it pace cause 100 miles or 1000 miles it will breakdown or need service. Also do not let the dealership work on it. Rip off city. All they need to do is just mention one thing and boom thousands in repairs. It use to be 300k in miles was nothing but the way they service or build it you need to check it out every 10k. Anything with wear and tear check it out. Look at the belt, bolts anything that looks too clear is a red flag. Don't ask the sales person for advice. All they will do is agree or tell you want you want to hear.

Rick was still willing to help and answer all of my questions even though he knew we were not going to purchase anything that day. I'm new in the trucking industry and Rick was a wealth of knowledge that he didn't mind sharing at all. We also had a change to talk either Jay who is very know leaf on their financing options. A few hours later we leave. Fast forward a month later and I am ready to make the purchase. I got approved ahead of time working with Jay, who is very blunt but I love his personality because it's so honest. We went down on a Saturday and I had a few trucks picked out from their site but they sell quick! With Jays recommendation and assistance we were able to pick out something within budget but also a good deal! We have had the truck a little over a week and no issues! Our driver is on the road as happy as can be! We plan on purchasing a few more tractors early 2016 and we will definitely will be going back to see Rick and Jay!!

But what happened next was unacceptable. On pickup day, their staff was already replacing the batteries. The next day after we brought the truck home, the battery was completely dead and the truck wouldn't start. We had to spend about $500 to fix it. Even worse, on the second day, we found a clear oil leak near the fifth wheel. My husband is a mechanic and checked that exact area before purchase--it was clean. There is no way it got that dirty overnight unless it was cleaned on purpose to hide the leak. We contacted them very politely and only asked for $500 back, which is less than half of what we spent on repairs. They refused and then stopped replying. As-is does NOT mean hiding problems. This was a very disappointing and dishonest experience. We expected better integrity from a business that claims decades of experience.

BUYER BE WARE!!! I…read morerarely leave negative reviews, but this experience was so frustrating and unprofessional that I feel people should know before doing business here. Before I even applied for financing, I called the dealership and explained my situation honestly upfront. I told them I had recently transitioned out of non-W2 income, had inconsistent income history, and had a couple of repossessions on my credit. I specifically asked if it was even worth applying before wasting anyone's time. I was told that as long as I could provide an offer letter from my new position, they should be able to work with me. After applying, I was initially told I needed $10,000 down. When I explained that wasn't possible, they suggested either trying a different vehicle or getting a co-signer. I got my son to co-sign, and then suddenly I was told the deal was approved. At that point, they asked me when I could come pick up the car. I was then told the down payment would be $2,500, but I wouldn't need to bring it immediately -- I could pay it within three weeks. Then later it changed to $3,000. I was repeatedly reassured that the terms would not change again. From there, the dealership requested document after document: ID Insurance Proof of residence Utility bills Credit card statements I recently moved, so my license still had my old address, and utilities at my current residence are included through my landlord. I explained this multiple times. Every time I submitted something, I was told "that should work," only for them to come back later saying it wouldn't. I provided: A closeout utility bill Another utility bill Credit card statements Additional proof of address Eventually even documentation connected to utilities at my current residence This went on for days with constant back-and-forth communication and shifting requirements. At one point, after spending the entire day sending documents, I was told at almost 8 PM that we would "have to revisit tomorrow." Then after again confirming that the terms would not change and they could get the deal done. Today I was suddenly told the bank now required the FULL $3,000 upfront immediately. The most frustrating part was the complete lack of accountability. Every time something changed, the response was:"The manager told me..."or"The bank changed it..." Apparently the terms changed hour by hour. At some point, it honestly felt like the goalposts kept moving no matter what I provided. If the deal could not be done, that should have been communicated clearly from the beginning instead of putting me through days of stress, paperwork, insurance setup, and repeated requests for documentation. I have purchased multiple vehicles before and have never experienced anything this disorganized, inconsistent, or unprofessional. I also have to be honest and say that I began questioning whether race may have played a role in how this situation unfolded, because the tone and complications noticeably escalated after I submitted my ID. I truly hope that was not the case, but it is unfortunately how the experience felt. No customer deserves to be treated this way.
