American flatbread saved our butts when we were looking for something to eat after a long day of skiing. Even for pick up everywhere in the area was at least a two hour wait and after some searching, we finally found American flatbread and the weight for pick up was pretty average at around 30 minutes. The flatbread was honestly delicious. We got the buffalo chicken one which I think was called power to the people, and we got one with mushroom and onions, which was called the revolution. We also got the Kel Caesar salad, which was pretty basic but also yummy. We placed our order on the phone and then drove down the road to pick it up. The place was packed when we went to pick it up, but thankfully, we were not going to sit there. Pick up was super easy. It was done at the time that they said it would be. We stopped in for dinner after an amazing Ben and Jerry's Factory visit just 15 minutes south which I highly recommend ( reserve tickets on line a must). We walked around the small town of Stowe and then drove north to the restaurant, plenty of parking and it was Summer so I'm sure in the winter during ski season it's a zoo! We ordered a small pepperoni pizza and the New Vermont Sausage pies - both excellent and plenty for my teen son and I to enjoy ! The ovens in the restaurant are a show and piece of art in and of itself which added to the fun atmosphere and great ambience. Visited from out of town and would definitely go back here. We ordered the Squashbuckler and I would reccomend this BIG TIME I went either 4 other people and this was our favorite pizza we ordered. The sauce was sweet and the red carmalized onions balanced it out perfectly it was great! We also ordered the buffalo chicken pizza and it was good, pretty average for a buffalo chicken pizza, not very spicy but would ordered again if I was there and just ask for a side of buffalo chicken. We also ordered the New Vermont and I did not have it but it was everyone else's second favorite pizza. For drinks everyone got water and I got a spiced cider and it was very good on a cold day and I would say more spiced than average but not in a bad way. Would definitely come back here. For a family of 16, we had five large flatbreads, one small special flatbread, two bloody Mary's, a Hill Farmstead Edward, two Pineapple Paradise, a Cider Donut alcoholic drink, and a family salad. The sizes were just right. Luckily, we were able to get seating for a large group, and the staff were so helpful and accommodating. The venue is very spacious with two floors. When you enter, you will see two large brick ovens in which they heat the flatbreads. They also have their own parking lot which is a plus. With very few exceptions, the restaurant I end up going to after a big hike gets graded on a curve - I'm typically famished and everything tastes great. This unfortunately was one of those very few exceptions. The Millennial Chum and I came here for early dinner last Sunday after hiking up Mount Mansfield in oppressive humidity. We were both very hungry and - full disclosure - after checking out two or three restaurants in town that weren't open during their normal business hours and/or didn't have Italian-ish food (the Chum was craving something in the pasta genre), we settled on this spot. The exterior caught the Millennial Chum's eye each time we drove by it during the prior day or so; tt looks very edgy with cool outdoor seating, like the kind of place you'd want to hang out for a while with a drink (and I thought I deserved a nice nip after watching sweat pour off my chin for five hours). It was close to dinner time, but was VERY empty when we walked in. It filled up a bit during the meal, but the large, open, barn-like space inside seemed bigger than I assume it usually does. Regardless, wasn't difficult to get a table. One of the bigger issues for us was something that speaks to the overall business model (and maybe the locals and/or other tourists are fine with it, especially given that they've expanded into a regional chain) - the lack of variety on the menu. It's literally nothing but flatbreads. We obviously knew that our main meal here was going to be that, but we were hoping to have an appetizer to munch on. What was particularly frustrating about this is that each table had a little specials menu in their napkin holder that advertised a charcuterie app. Excellent, exactly what we were thinking. When we tried to order it though, the waitress sheepishly said it wasn't on the menu anymore and they hadn't gotten around to updating it. That would be bad anyway, but this wasn't even on the actual menu - it was on a tiny piece of paper that they have to by definition manually put on the tables each day. Why wouldn't you just...not do that? A real unforced error in my opinion. In terms of menu options I was able to successfully order, I went with the Maple Bourbon Smash and a Cheese & Herb flatbread. The cocktail was honestly pretty tasteless - I probably should have pivoted once I saw the disclaimer next to it that it was from the tap at the bar, because it tasted more like watery beer than anything bourbon-based. I could barely taste the bourbon and never tasted maple. The garnish was pleasant to look at but I don't know too many people who base the success of their cocktails on the one part of it they can't ingest. The flatbread was surprisingly not good either. And this also could be a regional palate issue, but we both were disappointed that it wasn't particularly flat/crispy, which is what we're accustomed to in the NYC metro area. It was very chewy/doughy and something I'd be more into eating in college at 2am versus a formal restaurant situation. Very greasy too; really the only distinction this had for me that set it apart from average pizza is that it was just cut differently. The only redeeming quality here was the service. We had two different waitresses (one took over in the middle), both of whom were very nice and accommodating. The switch didn't cause any problems whatsoever. When I'm super hungry like this, wait times feel longer than average but I thought everything was promptly delivered from beginning to end. It's an intangible they can hopefully build on going forward. I don't know if this was just an off night (this place has a lot of positive reviews) but there wasn't a single menu item I would recommend here. It's unlikely I'm going to be in the area again but I'd steer clear in the future. read more

Meh. The flatbreads were interesting with more creative toppings - flatbreads are different than pizza in that they are way thinner and not all have tomato sauce. We skipped a $9 salad to avoid filling up so we could sample more of the flatbreads. We tried New Vermont Sausage, Pepperoni & Peppers and Revolution. The flatbreads were overall quite good - not great but good. The sausage had a tendency to roll off onto the table. We didn't taste much tomato sauce. In case you're wondering grana padano which is on all the flatbreads is similar to parmesan cheese. As I said the food was good but not good enough to overcome the price, service and ambiance. $80 for dinner for 2 is kind of ridiculous for flatbread no matter how gourmet and organic. Note that your bill will contain a "3% labor of love service charge" which is stated on the menu - we were truly baffled by this as it's not enough to cover a poor tip so does that mean that most patrons give lower tips so this is needed to supplement that? The waitstaff was super friendly but we were given no water even though it was not crowded - it was so bad that we had to get up and get it ourselves from the wait station nearby. Ambiance - the music was bands like Red Hot Chili Peppers and Sugar Ray Someday which we don't happen to like so we found it particularly grating to listen to it so loudly. I'm a little conflicted on only giving 4 stars. The pizza was so good and the service was great. I would come back for the pizza again. However, because this is more of a casual place we experienced little kids running around by the hot pizza oven and the open kitchen. We sat right by the oven where we could watch and this was very disruptive to our dinner. I was also worried they would trip the servers and their parents didn't seem to care. One other note since we sat right where you could see everything people were constantly stopping by our table to watch the pizza cook. We had many behinds very close to us as we ate as people would just walk up and stare. If not for both those issues we would have stayed so my husband could have another beer. Lastly the parking is CRAZY, they share a lot with Stowe Cider and it is nearly impossible to find a spot. If you have a reservation go early to secure your spot! We came on a Tuesday morning and there was lots of available seating inside and out! We brought our dog along and sat outside on the patio, where our server kindly brought the dog ice cold water! We ordered a large half and half and a small half and half to see the size difference - both can adequately feed 2 people, but if you have a larger appetite, definitely go for the large pizza. The New Vermont sausage was my favorite one, with lots of flavorful sausage to top it off, but all the other ones we tried (Revolution, Margherita, Pepperoni + Peppers) were equally as wonderful. Hello everyone, we'll our vacation is slowly coming to a end one more day here before heading back to Arizona. For lunch today we stopped by the American Flatbread for a bite to eat the food was great as was the tossed green salad & vinaigrette dressing so good. The building and interior were really nice looking as well, it's not to often I speak negative about service but today was not even close to good had to ask for drinks and for refills several times so not sure what was happening there. We have been coming to American Flatbread for many years, however this was our first time at the AF in Stowe, Vermont. It was a beautiful and newly renovated establishment with an attentive and friendly wait staff. We ordered three large pies, one medicine wheel, one power to the people ( Buffalo chicken pizza) and one make your own pizza with jalapenos, garlic and red onions. Flavor was great, the crust was just a little floppier than I would have expected for wood fired pizza. The Buffalo chicken pizza seemed to be missing the buffalo sauce and I was a little disappointed when I saw how sparse the toppings were on the create your own. These minor dings aren't enough to prevent us from coming back again. The Burlington AF raised the bar so our expectations were very high going into this visit.
