Came to Amelie for restaurant week and had a wonderful time! Came in a Wednesday night around 7:30 to a very busy restaurant. We had a reservation but had to wait ~5-10 minutes before being seated. The restaurant is beautiful! Very cozy and casual with a touch of glamor. They have some good cocktail and mocktail options as well as a nice wine list. I went for a non-alcoholic grapefruit soda which was exactly what I was in the mood for and served in a nice high ball glass with a lemon. So happy to see an actual lemon wedge! The dried fruit wheels are pretty but I like squeezing actual lemon into my drink. To start I had a mushroom toast which was a HUGE portion. It was tasty and filling, I only ate half to save room. The coq a vin was the star of the show for my main. Every bite was decadent and the portion was generous and beautifully served. To finish I had a decaf americano with creme brulee. The cream brulee didn't quite do it for me, the texture was a but off and it was very very fluffy and egg forward without enough sweetness, I still enjoyed it but couldn't say it was my favorite creme brulee. All of the staff are excellent, super professional and welcoming. A manager greeted us to ask how we enjoyed everything which I personally always appreciate. Overall I had a great time and would love to come back for brunch. If you go for dinner, the coq a vin is a must!! read more

This place is so cute, and really captures the vibe of a casual French restaurant (even the servers we had were French). The space is pretty without being overwhelming, and the atmosphere is comfortable and inviting. Our server was attentive and friendly, and she offered helpful advice on choosing drinks and food. They have a great happy hour that is also offered on weekends, and which includes a few different options for wine tasting flights. The baked brie and roasted cauliflower were delicious and reasonably portioned as shareable small plates. When I go back for more of a meal, the mussels are at the top of my list, because they looked wonderful. read more

Such a great experience. Service- everyone we interacted was friendly, helpful, and professional. Super attentive. Drinks-large wine selection and great cocktails. Rob was helpful in wine selection. Food-creative menu and dishes we got were flavorful and fresh. The steak was cooked just right, monkfish was light and buttery, and trout really delicate. The Brussel sprouts, cauliflower and truffle fries complimented our meal perfectly. Happy hour- can be done at bar or tables. Vibe- cozy and classy. Special shoutout to Houriya. First off, her attire and vibe were impeccable. She was so pleasant from beginning to end. Explaining flavor profiles of dishes, brought me wine spray when I spilled, and took great care of us. read more

Great food, wonderful service, Euro-cool atmosphere. We went there for new years and it was festive but not overcrowded.

Solid restaurant with good food. We were a large group of ten. I got the rockfish which was absolutely delicious. We got the profitronut for dessert- very sweet. The crème brûlée was good as well- a classic dessert dish! It was my friend's birthday and they were kind enough to give us a small glass of champagne, which we really appreciated. The place had soft lighting and plenty of space for us. read more

Nice French food with a small but solid wine selection. Prices are reasonable by DC standards. They do a decent brunch. Worth checking out if your are in Logan Circle. read more

Food is top-notch, and may be better than the food we had in Paris. Prices are reasonable, and the frites are amazing. My wife had the escargot and mussels, and I had an outstanding cheeseburger -- really among the best food we've had, and definitely the best French cuisine we've had. Service was a bit clumsy, and the hostess who seated us made us feel like we were an inconvenience. Otherwise, this was a great experience! read more

I don't usually go for burgers when I eat out, but Amelie flipped that script--this one was a first, and a game-changer - this burger actually maybe changed my outlook on those who order a burger because it was such a good choice - this was so insanely flavorful. juicy and dripping with hearty flavor. the Brie cheese added a tangy salty sharp compliment to the dense savory meat. - the bun was super light, slightly toasted and crispy on the outside very ends but still light and fluffy enough to compliment the dense meat. - the fries were potato forward....rather salt forward. if you know what I mean. when I'm at a French spot I was thin crispy slices of heaven, these were a little too baked bland for me. - my friends loved the French onion soup, you could smell it all the way from Arlington. that's how you know it's good. - the steak frites came with a delectable peppery sauce and was perfectly medium rare. I do think you could find equivalent for cheaper elsewhere though. - the service was weird, she took our drinks, appetizers, and entrees order all at once. despite me asking to put in drinks just to start... hate that. also gave no recommendation. restaurant was light and gorgeous with doors open right onto the bustling 14th street. loved the aesthetic. read more

One of the people I went with said "this would be a great neighborhood spot if it was cheaper" and I think that accurately describes my experience here. Food was good but nothing to write home about. Appetizer cauliflower was our favorite thing we had. When we got the bill we were surprised to see that we had been charged for the bread. The waiter just brought it and never mentioned a charge and didn't ask if we wanted it. I don't recall seeing it on the menu. read more

Recently tried Amelie for the first time. I did like the vibe though definitely doesn't have a French cafe vibe at all. Service was good, but nothing really stands out. Food was good especially the steak frites and the sauce. I got the French onion soup and would not recommend at all. Was fairly flavorless and pretty disappointing. I will certainly be back to try out some other items and the wine bottle prices were also a decent price. read more

Would gladly come back! I'm not the biggest fan of French food but this place tops the list for me of French restaurants in DC to visit. The steak was great, perfectly cooked and juicy. My friend got the chicken which was heavily seasoned (almost a bit too salty for me) but was still delicious Their bread was to die for, and their escargot was amazing! I prefer it over the other escargot I've had in the city (e.g., le dip, la grande boucherie) read more

Ooof, honestly pretty surprised to see how highly reviewed Amelie is. We came by for Valentine's Day and tried their pre-fix menu. We appreciated the amuse bouche and complementary champagne, but unfortunately everything else fell flat. We tried their oysters as an app, and I didn't care for the yuzu addition; I would've preferred standard oysters. We both ordered the steak medium rare, and unfortunately both dishes were room temp. The steak had clearly been sitting out under a heat lamp and the ends were dry. My apple tarte desert was inedible and tasted microwaved (I'm pretty sure it was). There are so many excellent French restaurants in DC, even on 14th street alone. I would personally never return nor recommend Amelie to a friend. While our waitress was kind and apologetic, the service was also very slow. read more

I went to Amelie for Restaurant Week brunch and had a wonderful experience from beginning to end. I was greeted warmly when I arrived and allowed to pick where I'd like to be seated (I chose the patio to enjoy the beautiful weather!). The courses were generously portioned and well-prepared. They came out with good pacing to let you enjoy each one without feeling rushed. For the first course, I had the delicious Tete de Moine cheese, which is nutty and sweet, along with caramelized onions and warm baguette slices. The presentation was beautiful and the cheese was delicious. For the second course, I chose the burger (cooked to medium rare). It was juicy and had delicious comte cheese on it as well as a garlic aioli. I paired it with the last of my cheese and onions and it was very satisfying! The fries were also done well and not over-salted. I ended up taking half of this home and was glad to get two meals out of it! For the final course, I went with the chocolate mousse and was again very happy: a nice, subtle coffee flavor and dark chocolate. I won't say that anything you eat here will blow your mind, but I think this is simple, comforting food prepared well by lovely people. Honestly, the service alone (and how cheerful and helpful everyone seemed in general) made me want to come back very soon for dinner. A Elie also has a very nice (and cheese-forward!) happy hour. It has that great feeling of a cozy neighborhood restaurant. I recommend giving them a try, and I'm so glad that Restaurant Week brought me here! read more

Food was alright, however the lunch special was confusing about what it included and didn't include. The waiter didn't bother clarifying that you could only order either a dessert or an app, and then charged us 11 extra each for dessert. For the quality of the food we got the price wasn't worth it and I personally won't be coming back. Might be a good idea to clear up this ambiguity on the menu. Especially since the crème brûlée was unevenly heated and didn't crack, not worth how much they charged us for it. read more

Talk about a wonderful HH- this place has it all at a really affordable price. Plus the staff are lovely and folks actually speak French in here. Can't say I'm surrounded by that too often at French spots! Check the spot out for good food/drinks and good vibes. read more

Decent place for French fare and service. Somewhat loud and food could be better. Smoked cauliflower - good Salade de chevre chaud - the goat cheese was more of a rubbery disk atop the salad, not gooey and moist Goat cheese ball - this had a nice sweet sauce (honey/onions) and was not too much for 1 person as a starter Pear tarte tatin - disappointment, not traditional style but a few pieces of puff pastry scattered around warm pear Ravioles du Royans - tiny butternut squash cubes amid the comte-filled mini ravioli, this was a decent portion and although heavy, a good comforting dish The wines I tried varied (but I like they classify 'tres bon' / 'excellent') and the Sancerre blanc was indeed excellent. It was unfortunate (and not very French) that they ask to take away plates (despite there still clearly being food on them). But the waitresses were pro and I appreciate they don't tack on an automatic service fee. Tip: you might want to sit toward the back if you prefer being away from cool air (the front windows are sometimes open, depending on the weather). read more

Don't get me wrong. The food here is really nice. But we came here to watch the World Cup game as per their advertisement. They had two TVs. One of them was running 3 seconds before the other. So it was really confusing. On top of that, the TVs were not connected to the central sound system. Each tv had its own regular sound which we could barely hear. Then the central sound system was playing music. We asked them to stop the music so that we can watch the game, they turned it higher. So it was music + sound from TV1 + sound from TV2 that was 3 seconds late. Extreme sound pollution that gave everyone a headache. The manager would not stop the music or connect a tv sound to the main central sound system. Extremely poor management of game showing for a restaurant that is advertising games. Would not come here again read more

The desserts are delicious. Went specifically for something sweet and added an appetizer of their burrata salad - so good. While in town went two nights in a row and tried multiple desserts. Had their peach, ice cream, strawberry compote special; chocolate mousse with whipped topping; and the best - the choux pastry filled with hazelnut ice cream and topped with warm chocolate syrup. Can't say enough about the dishes, the quick seating, the atmosphere, and the staff; Nini is delightful. Even when crowded you can still carry on a conversation. read more

We went for brunch. They are understaffed and it led to longer wait times. The staff tried their very best to service their customers but hopefully the restaurant will hire more servers to improve the overall experience. There were lots of large groups seated which was a turn off for us. However, the food and wine/cocktail selection was very good. We know this is a mini chain but you could not tell. Everything came out very fresh and authentic. read more

Delicious food, god service and a nice ambience. We enjoyed hosting friends from out of town here and look forward to returning.

We stopped in and the food was perfectly prepared. We would recommend to friends and family.

We loved Amélie when we lived in SF, so we were really happy when one opened in DC--and it definitely didn't disappoint. The space feels both cozy and open, and the service was great. We started with old fashioneds, grilled octopus, the Amelie salad (with manchego on the side), and tuna crudo. I knew I wanted a Bordeaux but wasn't sure which, so our server let me try a couple--both were delicious, but I went with the St. Emilion. My partner chose a Syrah. For our mains, we chose a couple of starters--I had the roasted cauliflower, and she went with a small charcuterie board (I don't eat meat or cheese). They bring warm bread to the table in the cutest little sack--it's amazing. And the wine glasses are huge, which makes the whole experience feel extra cozy. Everything was fantastic, and I already can't wait to go back! read more

I am super excited to welcome this new French addition to 14th St. Today was opening day of Amelie, and what a lovely experience. The restaurant is spacious and not too loud where you feel like you can hear the individuals you are seated with. Service was attentive, and while they do have a few kinks to work through, that's to be expected when you're brand new. The selection of drinks and food were great. We absolutely loved the Branzino. The fish was cooked perfectly and the flavors were amazing. I can't wait to become a regular at this new establishment. read more

So, drinks were great but they always forgot one of our drinks and it would arrive 10 minutes after everyone else. The food was delicious, but not hot, like it sat for a bit, and the issue of drinks arriving later seemed to extend to food as everyone was served but me until 5-10 minutes later. So great drinks if you don't mind waiting, good food but not great. But no one checked on us at all, so it was a struggle to get more bread, water, or drinks. Normally I had to call someone over after 10 minutes of trying to get someone's attention. The interior was nice, but we sat near the windows since it was a nice night and wanted the fresh air. But for a Tuesday night when the place wasn't very busy, it was strange that the service was so inconsistent. I didn't know who was waiting on us since I had to call the other person (were they a hostess or another waiter) to the table so often. read more

As you'd want/expect, great wine selection--much more reasonably priced than I was expecting too! The food is great, and I was full just off of the small plates (truffle fries and baked Camembert, which we obviously shared). The staff are so kind, and efficient. We walked in without a reservation, and were given a great table in the window, where we managed to get out before the reservation time for the next party, all without feeling rushed. They also noticed we had just gotten married and were kind enough to give us a glass of champagne! For me, the concern with a French wine bar is that it can definitely feel generic and/or gimmicky, or gate-kept, but this place let their work speak for itself without trying too hard. It was comfortable while still feeling like we were on a nice date, and we definitely felt welcome and had a wonderful time. Thanks for making our first date since I'd had a major surgery feel special! read more

Save your money! I'm puzzled by the good reviews for this place and honestly wonder if they're talking about the same restaurant. My daughters and I came for brunch and the food was a big disappointment. I'd ordered a $28 burger, medium rare, which arrived raw in the middle. I asked if it could be cooked longer and while my daughters picked at their disappointing meals I waited and waited till finally it arrived. The burger was black on the outside and when I cut it in half, lo and behold, the entire inside was raw. My daughter's seat was facing the open kitchen and while we were speaking to the waiter about it she observed the cooks in the kitchen watching us and stifling their laughter. So, this was clearly done on purpose and thought of as a joke. With stiff competition in a city of good restaurants, we will be taking our business elsewhere and will not hesitate to discourage friends from going here. read more

Amelie is such a cute restaurant. I love the French touch inside. It's right around the corner where I live and this is the 3rd times I have had dinner there. I love the food, the atmosphere, the wine. So French! Oui oui! I am going to try everything on their menu. read more

Not sure why so many high ratings. Maybe it's because I ate during restaurant week and they care less when it's a discounted meal. I got the tomato salad, ravioli and chocolate mousse. The mousse was the best of all 3. The ravioli had way too many ingredients and herbs, what's going on here. I'm a chef and would never mix some of these ingredients. The worst unfortunately is Robs cocktail service. I guess again they care less about happy hour. Good prices at $10 but premade crappy cocktails is just unacceptable. Alcohol by the ounce is cheap! Why serve crap or charge $17 for Bullet, the at stiff is cheap. Who makes the prices here. Way too many other places around. read more

I enjoyed my first experience here recently. Nice ambiance and the service was good. I really enjoyed the food I ordered; however, for mains I found the portions lacking for the price. The pistachio goat cheese appetizer was delicious and I was pleasantly surprised they had a gluten free bread option to serve with it that came warm and toasted! The duck confit has excellent flavor and the duck was so tender it easily comes off the bone with a fork; however, portion was underwhelming and not filling. I've been eyeing this place for a while and I love myself a French restaurant so I finally decided to make a reservation for my birthday. I ordered the coq au vin and was immediately disappointed. The chicken tasted like it was made a few days ago and the only thing that was keeping it moist was the sauce, which did not taste like wine. It was nothing like the coq au vin I ate in France. The place was really cute and cozy and the waitstaff very attentive. Maybe I'll pay one more visit to see if other things on the menu are better. read more

Probably one of the most "mid" places I've ever eaten. They got me in a little sooner than my reservation which was nice, ordered the burger with bacon and egg, fries and a coke. $50 with tip... when I say there was absolutely zero flavor I mean it. Like wow I'm so mad I spent so much on a burger fries an coke. Wild. Definitely do not think it's worth it. Service was meh, but not bad. Just very very basic. Prices should not be this high. read more
