The seabass ceviche was really excellent. The fish tasted super fresh and was mixed with crunchy lettuce and creamy avocado which made a great contrast of textures. Even though others on the table had charcuterie and Camembert I didn't have food envy -though that's not to say I didn't snaffle bits of other people's. All delicious. The duck was beautifully cooked and very flavoursome. It came with some very tasty veg and spinach, and a veritable tower of potato. I didn't enjoy the potato tower as much as I could as it wasn't very creamy and had potato skins in it - not really my scene. Along with my meal I had a delicious bottle of red. I can't remember what it was but our waitress took the time to help us out with the wine list. The price was fairly reasonable and I was happy with the service - overall this is a great place and I'd recommend to Cambridge dwellers and visitors. One thing to note: the toilets are outside and then inside another building. Do not be alarmed if a staff member directs you to the toilet and all of a sudden you're in the street!

For starters I shared a baked Camembert, which was served with toast, salad and an onion chutney. It was pretty good although more toast would have been appreciated. For the main course I had the fillet steak and came across one of the nicest steaks I've ever had. It took me by surprise to be honest i wasn't expecting it! The chips it came with were nothing special though. The only comment I would have is that I asked for it medium and it came way less than medium, wasn't complaining though I was very glad they did so! The whole meal came to £30-40 each including drinks which wasn't too bad at all considering we all had steak or fish. Overall I had a great time, the staff were friendly and efficient and if I could give it 4.5 I would. It falls shy of a 5 unfortunately though.

While it looked sleek and modern it lacked the warmth and charm that Cafe Rouge next door had. Add to the fact that there were hardly any diners there, we opted for Cafe Rouge. Instantly I knew the right choice was made. Cozy with a true French vibe, I was transported to a little bistro in the Latin Quarter. We were seated immediately and it seems the key is to get there a little early as it became very full later on. I ordered a Liver Terrine to start and the Champingon de Paris. Both were amazing. The terrine was light like a Mousse Pâté. While I was devouring it I commented it was the best thing I had had in my mouth the entire trip. The Champignons were in a rich cheesy sauce. Every bit sopped up with a crusty baguette. We ordered a Salmon Croque and Spinach and Mushroom Pasta for our entrees. They were both completely wonderful. Cafe Rouge offers several options of prix fixe menu. One for early dining 12-5pm and 5pm until close. Both were very reasonably priced and given the quality of food it was an outstanding deal. My only regret was that we happened upon Cafe Rouge during the end of our stay. I surely would have been there every day had I found them sooner.

We have absolutely no idea what triggered his shocking behaviour towards us as we were just trying to make a reservation. I know that by writing this it might ruin the special and exclusive nature of it all. From what I heard from a local friend that has lived here for years, is that they fly in a chef from France and he cooks special meals for those nights. If you can get past that you are in a little cafe, which in itself is very french then this place could be a very special find in Cambridge. I haven't tried out this special Friday.
