PG&E had a neighborhood power shutdown and when I came home, everything was working in my house and detached garage except several outlets in my garage, including the one powering my garage door opener. I called Ideal Electric late on a Friday afternoon, Esed answered and took me step by step through a checklist. Turned out, as I should have know, that the GFI breaker on one of the outlets tripped and that outlet was connected to the others. Esed gave me the info without charging me to visit the house. He went through a couple of quick fixes on the phone which could save us some money. I told him we've done that already and we need an electrician to diagnose and fix the problem. He said it'll cost $335 to show up and if he is here over 2hrs, it will be an extra $169/hr. I said okay. Since he is highly rated, I didn't bother calling other electricians for more quotes. I normally get at least 3 then compare. Then he said his appts are 3wks away but has a cancellation for Saturday (today) at 11am. So I said sure and gave him our address and told him to call us when he's here cuz we have to buzz him in the security gate. He said our address is 5mins from his house so no problem. Long story short. He never showed up, no call -nothing! Wasted our time waiting. It is our rental property so I had to drive in before the appt, waited an hour after the appt then left. He may not have wanted to take the job cuz I got the sense that he wasn't enthused and quoted us his price for showing up. Or... he may have forgotten about the appt. Either way, he is the owner and there is no excuse for poor business practice. And for wasting my time I gave him one star since I can't give zero.

After the wiring was done Berkeley Electric patched our walls and thoroughly cleaned up. Zalman also suggested some upgrades we had not considered earlier. One, for example, was adding an electric car charger to the garage wiring. Another was installing safety lights, which we did. We cannot recommend Berkeley Electric highly enough. I would hire them again without hesitation. The good news, however, is that the job Berkeley Electric did was so satisfactory that we should never have to rewire again.
