So GREATFUL! I wish I could give this place more than 5's. I purchased my "beardie" from another local reptile store. Come to find out he had MBD. Being my first reptile I wanted to make sure he was ok. I happened to stop in at Amazon Reptile Center to purchase some feed. I was absolutely in shocked as to how clean/spotless the animal terrariums were. Their feed even looked high quality. I began talking to the employees about my "beardie" and my concerns. Immediately, the owner Mike said bring him so they could look at him. I took him back and Aries was helpful, knowledgeable, caring and took the time to really look at my "beardie". Keeping reptiles and amphibians (often referred to as "herps" by those in the know, a play on the term herpetology--the study of those creatures) is a specialized hobby. Sure, there are plenty of pet stores that sell baby ball pythons. Some may even carry a starter kit terrarium, substrate, ceramic crocks for water, and other accoutrements. This is not the case at Amazon Reptile. This is a specialized store, filled with snakes, lizards, amphibians, and some inverts like tarantulas. The store is small but loaded with critters-- ranging from dainty rainforest frogs and chameleons, to huge Burmese pythons and water monitors. There are reptiles here for every interest and ability level. A good selection of corn snakes, milk and king snakes, rosy boas, sand boas, and bearded dragons appeal to the novice, while exotics like tegus, boas, pythons, geckos, monitors, basilisks, tortoises, and legless lizards are just a few offerings for more experienced afficianados. The back of the store has an active breeding program, as well as live feeders of all shapes and sizes available-- crickets, mealworms, fruit flies, and rodents of all shapes and sizes. Today, Seth was very kind and patient withy children, who were looking to add a Rosy Boa to our family. Seth took the time to explain the basics to my 6 year old son and my grabby two year old daughter. He answered questions, listened to my son's excitement about reptiles, and was a real pro. The staff sexed the snake, gave it a feeding, and asked about the enclosure we had for the snake. These animals are not merely fed, they are loved and cared for. The animals seemed healthy and content. There are also plenty of supplies, cages, vitamins and meds, lighting, and other needs for your pet. Some of the cages at the store are pretty high-- if you're short, you may not see the stuff at the top. But from floor to ceiling, there is plenty to enjoy. You could buy running shoes at WalMart, but if you're serious about running, you visit a running store. My husband and I had a great experience shopping for a bearded dragon here. We were helped by Crystal, who gave us a wealth of knowledge about bearded dragons and instead of rushing us into making a hasty decision, recommended that we "sleep on it". We went home, researched some more about dragons, and decided by the following day to purchase our new pet. Crystal again was the associate that helped us. We purchased a whole starter kit and dragon for a very reasonable price (much cheaper than the big chain stores would charge). So I've been going to this shop for almost 6 years now and I honestly can't think of a bad thing to say. When I was first getting into the reptile hobby I came to this store to buy a crested gecko. I was treated incredibly well regardless of the lack of knowledge I had about cresties. They helped me with food, care, and also which decor would work for me. I couldn't be more satisfied with my service. I've read a lot of bad reviews about them on here and just wanted to share my opinion of the place. P.S. Also as a side note. I have read about many people calling this establishment racist and discriminatory. I could not be more disgusted and bothered with how people slander them. As a proud Latino (who happens to be quite dark in skin complexion) I was treated with upmost respect and decency. To say that the owner or staff are racist in any way is simply rude and just untrue. I could only hope that these people do not visit this shop anymore if they will continue to throw false accusations to these hard working and respectful employees. read more

I reeeeeeallllly hate writing negative reviews but I just had to do it here. The positives are that yes the staff is very friendly and willing to help you out. But the negative is that they are very outdated in the advice they give so DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH. I keep a variety of animals, (mammals, arachnids, amphibians, reptiles) and this was my first time getting a snake (I bought 2). I did tons of research before buying it and the main thing I heard about Corn Snakes was that they were escape artists. I wanted to put them in a secure critter carrier with extra latches until they grew and move them into a 20 gal eventually and the attendant told me to move them in the 20 now. She said the critter carrier would overheat with a lamp or heat mat on it. I explained I didn't trust the latches since the corners lifted but she assured me it would be fine. Well it only took 3 days for the Snow one to escape and now it's been over a week and I can't find it. It might turn up some day but I have flour all over the ground to see tracks and so far there's no sign of it and since I live in an apartment complex it could be anywhere. I'm extremely sad and really should have just gone with my gut. I moved the other into the critter carrier and so far shes fine and I use a thermometer laser to check the temp is in an acceptable range. They keep them in salsa containers so I'm pretty sure anything would be an upgrade. Also, I was told that a 20 Gal would be a good size for a Corn Snake Long term. This is outdated, most places recommend a 125 Gal minimum or at least a 75. The Frog enclosures in the back are also very dirty and it, to me, looks like overgrown algea/moss. The Isopods they sold me were mostly dead by the time I put them in the enclosure (another 25$ lost). Finally, I was expecting to have to sign something understanding what kind of animal I was getting and either offering returns OR stating all sales are final, or get some sort of care sheet for the animal I was purchasing. I don't necessarily need it, but I think some people might benefit from understanding how serious it is to purchase an animal that needs different types of care than your usual cat or dog. Overall love the selection, but the care information is an area of growth for them. Honestly, they should start every piece of advice with "we recommend BLANK but do your own research as well". read more

THESE PEOPLE ARE BLATANTLY RACIST AND RUDE! DO NOT SUPPORT THEIR BUSINESS! I have never owned a reptile but was interested in purchasing something as a pet. Instead of giving me advice on where to start I was rudely dismissed by the employees and told that since I have never owned a reptile they would not sell one to me. I was a bit upset that they weren't even willing to give me advice on where to start. I didn't realize that they were racist until when I was walking away, the next customer in line (who happened to be caucasian) asked questions that clearly showed that they didn't know much either. But this time, the 2 employees were very nice and answered their questions. I thought about turning around and asking to speak to a manager, but I figured that since BOTH the employees were so blatantly rude and racist, then this behavior is probably acceptable even up to top management. When I got home, I decided to read reviews about this place and found that my suspicion was correct and there were very similar reviews about the people there. Even the owner has reviews about being rude and condescending. These people are selling reptiles to find happy homes for them yet they are turning people away who want to learn to take care of them and who are not their preferred color. My family has been buying from Mike at Amazon for more than 20 years. We have always felt we were getting more than a new animal or supplies. All of the staff are knowledgeable and will gladly share first hand experiences with you. No question is "dumb". They will help you research if you need further education. Their priority is the husbandry of the animal. I have seen them lose a sale because the customer wasn't prepared with the necessary equipment. Amazon doesn't care if you have purchased from the competition, as long as the animal goes home to the proper enclosure with needed light or heat or substrate or whatever the animal needs. After reading the negative reviews, I am shaking my head. Really, you think they should have an open door policy when the city mandates otherwise? What makes you so special? They were there to keep my food supply at a reasonable price when I needed it. As far as being racist? I laugh at that. Have you actually gone in to shop? My boyfriend gave me a veiled chameleon we bought from Amazon Reptile Center and we have been driving from Redlands to Montclair weekly for his dietary needs. My son has been asking for a pet reptile (going back and forth between a bearded dragon and pacman frog) for a year. For his 8th birthday today, my husband and I finally decided he was ready and went to Amazon Reptile Center to pick up our new family member. We had the best experience when we got there. I wish I had gotten the employee's name who helped us. Our son decided on a pac man frog and this place had 4 beautiful ones! The associate who helped was in the middle of feeding the frogs and while we waited for the frogs to eat-she answered all of our questions. And the best part that I really appreciated was how she started asking US questions! Making sure we had what we needed for the frog and we didn't leave with any questions or doubt. She was very patient with us and very friendly. She also recommended a few things we can change with our substrate-which we did and "Leonard" seems happy! We came here to find a snake for a teenage girl. This teen is not like others. Shes an avid animal lover, and active participant with animal rescues. She had expressed intrest in getting a reptile. We were lucky to have Ares helping us. It was awesome to hear her speak about the snakes and all thier attributes. She was so knowledgeable and friendly. Would've loved being a regular costumer, however, the owner of this store, Mike, is very rude and condescending. We had a mishap with the super worms eating themselves out of the bag and escaping. This has never happened before because every reptile store we have gone to have put them in hard plastic cups. Not only that, but they ate into our separate bag of dubias and killed them. It's one thing to not educate your buyers about the possibility of them escaping from the bag, but they decided to be sarcastic about the situation. They said "they didn't believe what had happened and it was highly unique that this ever happened". They gave us attitude, decided not to help us and didn't even offer a single ounce of care about the situation. I suggest the staff AND the owners go through a customer service course or training to reassess how to handle new customers that might not have all the knowledge "required" to purchase a reptile. Instead of degrading people in their lack of knowledge use it as a moment of education and pitch what missing equipment they need. Don't buy from these people. I drove my mom here to buy two African baby turtles 30 mi from my house after researching online about the store. When I got here, we were confronted at the store door by a young girl that tells us unless we buy 'housing ' equipments from them and the knowledge of how to take care of the animal that she will not sell to us. 'It is their policy' . I asked to talk to store manager and was passed off to another person that claimed he was. I persisted and spoken to a person named Mike, whom is the owner. He continued with the same rudely remark that we, my mom and myself , whom has explained that we have the setup at home and have taken care of many reptiles in fish tanks with light and humid lights. Prior to this, we have gone to PETSmarts but decided to drive 30 miles to a small store to support their economy. I have never been insulted, even with a doctoral degree, and turned away because of 'because we don't know what we are doing' at our adult ages and the years of having telling them how we take care of hamster to turtles. Prior, we have done weeks of research online and have bought home equipments already. I fell they are very racist because I see lots of other behind and before in line with no issues except for my mom and I. I really advise others to turn away and do not support this store for even the owner was the sane way down to the two other employees. We got our bearded dragon here over the summer, and were so impressed by the way they made sure our set up was suitable for the bearded dragon before selling him to us (totally different experience from going to a chain pet store). Staff is always really helpful, informative and friendly. Rats are almost always huge for the sizes I get...medium and large which seem more like large and jumbo but definitely no complaints! They make for a happy fat snake after eating lol. I've seen employees change out the cages of the animals with fresh water, food and overall cleanliness is there in my opinion. There is a slight smell when you first walk in but what do you expect for this kinda place! They have an okay/good selection of decorations/accessories for cages and pricing seems reasonable to me. Good selection of smaller snakes and a few different animals (certain frogs, geckos, turtles among a couple others). I recommend this place quite frequently when I bring my snakes out in public and get asked about their feed and where I go for it along with the bark I use for them (I forget the name of it but it's the compressed bark they sell here) and just general questions. There are certain characteristics that define reptile pet owners, so note the no-frills more serious tone of this place. Staff here are super informative, but be prepared to know a thing or two about proper animal care - this isn't your commercial pet store trying to push sales, they actually care about the quality of life their animals will get as reptiles tend to be trickier pets to own. I enjoyed perusing their collection while waiting for my large order of feeder mice; it's the first reptile shop I've ever been to that had as many pets as they do and at reasonable prices. Although Amazon is almost an hour drive for me, it is so worth it. I've had my BP for more than a year now and just couldn't find any where in LA that sold healthy, pre-killed feeder mice for a great price. They breed all of their feeders themselves here and are healthy. You can either get them live or pre-killed using C02. Larger retired breeder mice (which they rarely have because they sell quick) are $2, and smaller ones (about 17 grams give or take) are $1.20, but can be discounted 15% if you spend over $50 (which is easy for reptile care), that comes to a little over $1 for a mouse! That is a very good price! I ended up leaving with twenty retired breeder mice and thirty feeders pre-killed and sealed to stick in my freezer. I definitely will be coming back here as soon as Snakey needs a refill. read more

I have worked in customer service since I was 7 years old. I currently work in a pet store as well. I came here expecting to help my friend find her new family member. A hognose snake. Upon arrival the store was closed to enter due to COVID which is completely understandable. They had a table service at the front door instead. Very excited we asked to see the hognose snakes to see if we'd like to buy one. The lady was RUDE and SNAPPY. She was a woman with short silver or blonde-ish hair and had tattoos with staggered teeth (beautiful woman, terrible attitude). I was very upset from her snippy comments and terrible customer service. I know what its like to work in customer service and ma'am customer service is not meant for you! She caused a lot of anxiety to her customers. I hope they get a change of employees, then and only then I will return. read more
