Went to Amazon Fresh to see what it was about. It's very bright and clean. Very friendly staff who greet you upon entering and are very helpful during your shopping experience. From your Amazon app you can access an instore QR code and scan it upon entering and just pay for things as you go around the store but we didn't do that. We got a cart and went around exploring the store. They have everything a regular grocery store has including a section where you can get hot food and sushi. Many items were on sale at reasonable prices. They even have Alexa stations around the store where you can ask where items are located and it assists you. We picked up a few items and decided to utilize the cashier to check out so that we could see how things worked. They ring up your items, you access the instore code from your Amazon app and you can scan it and pay for everything with the method of payment you have on your Amazon account. Or you can use a different method of payment. The store is very convenient and easily accessible. If you're looking to do so some quick and easy grocery shopping, this is definitely the place. read more

This location was always empty and the employees always greeted you a you walked in and that's what about it. If you asked them anything they would have to go ask someone else and never return. Nobody never knew where anything was at. They had a man in a wheelchair checking people out in self checkout and 3 other employees standing around talking. This store is still trying to find itself. After being in this location for a couple years they've been through many iterations. They use to have a butcher counter and that's now a cooler for cottage cheese and Pillsbury crescent rolls. They use to have a liquor department, that had a security guard checking ID's when you walk in. That's completely gone. Use to have more choices than most now you're lucky to find things in stock. You use to be able to walk in and walk out with a simple sign in of your phone app. That is also gone. Isles are empty all over the place. Many things always out of stock like milk, water, bread and other basics. The meat selection is pretty gross. No idea where they are getting it from but it's not a local farm. Ground beef looks soupy in packages. Chicken is tough and full of veins. Even bagged shrimp is funky. Then they're's the employees. Everyone is running around with carts filling what I can only imagine is online orders. No one working the store for customers. Usually only 1 register open ever and they expect you to use self checkout. Food prices use to be decent. Not real grocer store values but not 7-11 either. You have to really watch for sales but when they happen nothing is in stock and a sign goes up stating that they are out. Seems that expiration dates are very short on food too. Like the meats, fruits and vegetables and baked goods. You have to watch out for that as we've bought many things that are already expired. Big disappointment, they have no local phone number. So if you have an issue with an item, or trying to find out if something is in stock you can't. You have to go in person for everything. It's a nice fairly clean store but the roof is always leaking. Every time there is rain, there are buckets in isles. It's a guarantee. In short, they need to decided if they are a real grocery store or an online retailer. They need to stop changing their model of what they are inside every 6 months. They need to know the communities they are in before popping up. It's the most disconnected business I've ever shopped in. It seems they are just a hub for the online retail market with a side of convenience store. read more

Fresh is a hidden gem. I stopped in this location to return some Amazon packages. I usually return here b/c you get $10 off $40 in groceries by doing so. The staff is helpful. I needed assistance getting a item off the top shelf & 1 of the young ladies didnt hesitate to assist. She grabbed 2 different ladders to assist. It was almost store closing so I really appreciated the effort. Bathrooms are usually clean as well. This is a good to spot if I ever have to stop! read more

I love this store! I first discovered it when I came in to return an Amazon package, and I was so impressed -- the store was spotless, fully stocked, and the staff greeted me as I walked by. That level of friendliness honestly shocked and delighted me! Fast forward to a couple of days ago -- I stopped by specifically for chicken stock. Unfortunately, they were out of the brand I wanted, so I asked a nearby team member who was stocking dairy. Enter Nichole -- what a gem! She stopped what she was doing, looked up the inventory, and told me more would arrive that night. Then she went above and beyond, inviting me to come back the next morning and promising to personally grab them for me if they weren't already on the shelves. Wow! Before I left, I went to customer service to share my great experience and met Marie, who greeted me with the warmest smile and an amazing personality to match. Good store and selection, but only one star for the lack of a phone number and short expiration date on something I bought. Now I have to drive all the way back here just to have them address my concern. I bought a bag of RANA chicken fettuccine alfredo on July 3rd and was going to make it yesterday, but noticed the Use by date was 07/04 which means when I bought it, I only had ONE day to make it!! I guess I should've looked, but c'mon, why would you have product on a shelf with such a ridiculous short expiration date?? The 800 number and all other Amazon numbers are useless. They all say I have to go directly back to the store. Now I have to drive there (again) and talk to the manager and try and get a replacement or refund. What a waste of frickin time, gas, and energy. The staff occasionally go above and beyond... They don't serve cold fountain drinks there, but I wanted a cup of ice for my ice coffee, and an employee named Lovie went to the employee break room to get me a styrofoam cup of ice, and I was able pour the can of iced coffee into that cup in the parking lot on a very hot day. She didn't have to do that. But I appreciate that she did. read more

I was so excited for this store since I don't like Tony's and hate driving to Pete's in Oak Park. I don't do the auto check out service option, so I can't speak on that, but the regular check out experience has been great for me. The store has always been very clean and organized and staff is attentive. I see some reviews regarding price, but honestly it's about the same as what Jewel was charging before, but with different options. I pick up orders from time to time and haven't had any bad experiences. Will continue to visit this location! read more

Trendy, cool, and a complete waste of time. I thought it would be like a trader joes with interesting snacks and foods but it was just like a jewel but with much higher than average prices.  We went here twice, once on the opening day and then a couple weeks later because they had a decent coupon that could be applied in both timeframes. They advertised free samples but there was nothing, not sure if they ran out in the first couple hours. Without considering that coupon, the prices we saw for every item we normally get was above Jewel or Tony's. On our first visit, we did the cashier-less which got several items wrong and had to call amazon for the refunds. They say if you pick up an item and put it back in the same place it shouldn't charge you but it did to us. You also can't see the receipt until several hours after checkout so we couldn't see in store how well the system was working.  Of the store brand items we got vegan nuggets, hummus, and hot made pizza slices. The vegan nuggs were the worst we've ever tried and we've had around 10 brands. Tastes like weird old hay. The hummus was okay and the pizza was actually pretty good for $1.99 a slice with interesting toppings (veggie and buffalo chicken).  You might be tempted to stop in and check it out but I definitely would not recommend it for anything except a slice of pizza. read more

I have gotten the chances to visit several Amazon Fresh locations in Chicagoland. This North Riverside one just had their grand opening. Is Amazon Fresh truly fresh? I think they have good produce, fruit, and meat departments and always maintain good presentations and organizations. I don't really buy much of anything else, other than the stuff I can cook with. I have heard that people complain about the prices being more expensive. I see they have a valid point, but these higher-priced commodities are snacks, pops, package goods that naturally are going to charge more for their manufacturing and labor. My solutions to fight inflation? Eat food with their natural forms and exchange for your time to cook them! With that being said, I think Amazon Fresh has quality produce and the technology makes shopping more convenient. I am a Prime member, so I get to load items straight to bags and walk out, as long as I have my in-store code ready to scan in and out. I often go grocery shopping while having a young toddler with me. Not going through a cashier means one less step to worry about! If you have a coupon, make sure the coupon is scanned at the exit before scanning the in-store code. The coupon is only good once with cashier-less shopping. I have seen customers go through cashiers over and over again with the same coupon. I am not here to judge, but I bet the cashiers are tired of watching these hawks over abuse the use of coupon. Ultimately, you don't need to be a Prime member to shop at a Amazon Fresh store. However, some digital coupons can be found in the app once you generate a in-store code. The items that match the coupons are gone fast. I often see empty shelves on items with matching coupons, just FYI. I think the pizza is pretty tasty at the hot food department. I like their chicken pesto and a slice costs less than $2. I also enjoy their sushi and California rolls; they are better than some of the restaurants in the city and I am confident to say that. Anyway, you are entitled to your opinions on Amazon as a corporation. I always have fun shopping at Amazon Fresh and many are opening throughout Chicagoland. I am looking forward to have one closer to where I live and hopefully that location will become my go-to grocery store. read more

The Amazon place I went to was good: I saw bad reviews but I think it all depends on the location you visited, I visited the one at North Riverside Mall and it was amazing. The entrance was a little hard for me to get into though but they have an entrance for people without an Amazon account, I figured that out later. It was clean and looked brand new even though they cashier said they've been there for a while. The prices were extremely LOW. I have a Costco membership so I know. There was lots of food both cooked and raw that were cheaper. I even made a quick compassion to their per lb price for cooked food to Pete's and their's was half the price. Anytime I want to shop at Amazon fresh, this is the location I will go to. It won't be a regular for me because I live downtown Chicago. read more

I actually like Amazon Fresh but not quite as much as Tony's across the street (which is a real treasure) First I want to start off by stating that YOU DO NOT NEED TO USE ANY APP JUST TO ENTER THE STORE. The reviews stating that are flat wrong. Simply walk in and go straight through the automatic gate (not the ones with the scanners off to the side) If you do not use the app to scan in, then you will need to go to the register and check out the old fashioned way, which I understand some people may prefer. Easy peasy. The main thing keeping me from a 5 star review is that the selection of groceries is absolute crap compared to Tony's or Jewel. However, for those limited selection of items, the prices at Amazon Fresh are much better than Tony's, and for most things, they tend to be cheaper than Jewel. Plus, Amazon loves to give out coupons like candy, they are currently handing out $10 off $40 deals just for coming in. Amazon is also a great calm option if its a busy shopping time, as Tony's can be a zoo during peak times. I almost always use the automated walk-out shopping. Thankfully I have yet to be charged for items I did not take, however several times I have NOT been charged for items I did put in my bag. So their system is far from perfect. From what I can tell when looking to report this, they make it easy to report erroneous charges, but no where can I find a place to leave actual feedback to report a missed item. I too sometimes wonder how this store will stay around given there's never many actual customers inside, but I really think its a bit of a mirage because there are always a number of Amazon employees packing orders, so perhaps most of their business is grocery delivery. One additional minor complaint though, is the paper bags cost 1 cent, and almost ALWAYS a handle breaks off under the lightest load. I would GLADLY pay twice as much for a paper bag that did not break. read more

Prices are not any lower than any other grocer these days, but the store was clean and stocked well. Fresh produce, good meat selection, easy checkout (you just scan and walk out). I did get charged for one item I did not buy. I disputed it right on the receipt and requested a refund, and was refunded quickly - fairly painless. read more

I absolutely love this store! It's rarely crowded, and the associates are outstanding. When you need help, they don't just grunt and gesture in a general direction to find what you're looking for yourself; they actually walk over with you and show you where the item is located. So glad they opened this location. One thing I can't get the hang of are the "just walk out" grocery carts. If you remove something, it freaks it out completely. So I just use a regular cart and check out with a cashier. I rarely wait in a line. It's fantastic. read more

I liked the concept of being able to grab what I wanted and walk out so it came in handy if I just needed a few quick things. And it was never really busy so it was perfect. I could never do all of my shopping here tho. Not enough selection, prices are higher than Mariano's and Jewel on most things, and their produce is NOT fresh. Amazon recently got ride of the "Just Walk Out" feature in the stores so now this is just an overpriced grocery store with limited variety. They have cashiers and self checkout. Needless to say I have no reason to go there anymore. I notice even less cars in the lot than before so if Amazon doesn't shut these stores down first, then I'll bet once the lease is up, they will be gone. read more

Remarkably fast in & out using the automated checkout, which I notice most customers aren't even using. Prices & selection are kind of average. I would prefer using Jewel, but the few registers that are normally open have such long lines...I don't think I've ever seen more than half of the registers open at the River Forest Jewel however busy they are. My very few interactions with employees have been good, and the only downside of the store to me is that it provides less jobs than a normal grocery store. I don't know if this concept will last long, at least at this location, because there are just so few customers. I still do appreciate the time savings, though. Amazon does need to provide more education on how the concept works, as most use the conventional checkout lane. There was a person upfront explaining the concept to new customers at first, but I haven't seen anyone in my last few visits. read more

Editing to say that apparently I just got an employee who didn't know what she's talking about. You can go in without the app, but you have to tell the employee and they need to let you in. Seems like an unnecessary hassle. I'll never use the automated checkout feature... I already didn't like the idea of being tracked like that, but based on the reports of mischarges that you don't find out about until way later, no chance I'll use that now. I've already had enough adventures with Amazon's "service". Sad that we lost a real grocery store, as much help as it needed, for this mess. I'm conflicted on the store. The just walk out technology is incredible. I wish every grocery store had it. I don't ever want to wait in a checkout line again. On the other hand, the grocery store aspect of Amazon Fresh is pretty bad. They have only a basic selection of things, and lack variety of brands in individual product types. Their prepared food section is spartan. There are no interesting local items or quirky seasonal products. The hot bar has like four things in it when it's not empty. The store feels smaller than it is, like I'm shopping at an oversized bodega. Prices aren't cheaper to compensate for not having to pay people at checkout. It's not well maintained (there's been a broken egg on the ground of the egg refrigerator for at least a week). It feels like a grocery store with 50% effort put in that was built to test some cool technology. I love shopping there for staples that I can buy elsewhere, but I have to also shop periodically at other stores to get anything more interesting. read more

I went here for the grand opening. The staff were helpful in helping customers utilize their walk in and out technology. The store was clean and offered full groceries. They offer fresh foods that are prepared from hot to salads. I tried the salmon with two sides for $10. The portions were decent and tasted good. I also got maki and avocado spring rolls which was really delicious surprisingly! The technology mostly worked with one error that Amazon quickly fixed through their app. Prices were comparable to other grocers. I'll definitely return. read more

I've been to this store 5 times and 3 out of the 5 times I was charged for items I did not purchase. Friday, was my final visit. I was charged for a protein yogurt that I know I place in the same spot on the shelf. The deal is you cannot place an item back on the shelf incorrectly. I am on an eating plan so I was checking the nutritional value of the yogurt and placed it back on the shelf. Once again, I was charged. In the past, I purchased a medium soup, the container had an M,but was charged for the large. I returned to the store with the soup container to show I was overcharged. The other time, I was charged for two packages of frozen fish, when I purchased one. I'm done!!! It's not worth it. read more

The real problem, however, was trying to reach the store, just to let them know that they needed to check the chickens. There is no listed phone number, anywhere, for the store. They charge my debit card $7.00 tip I said for what I didn't authorize this charge they said there is a box if you don't put nothing in the box they charge you $7.00 automatic! I told them no one explained this to me you taking advantage of a senior citizens! The coustomer care service didn't care they said it pass 24 hr and he couldn't do anything it is ashamed! This place is not really worth all the hype, the only difference about this and other super markets is that there is almost never a checkout line so that's a plus, if you do decide to come you need the Amazon app and you need to wait 5 min for the workers to tell you were to go and what to click, when you are in, all of the food is extremely overpriced, and as you walk out you won't get your receipt for 2-3 hours so you don't know how much you are being charged. There are better options to go so if you can avoid please do.-an extra star just because the concept of the store is cool read more

It would be SPECTACULAR if stores could open ON TIME esp when customers are waiting outside in the sweltering heat. Advice: Unlock and open your door 5-10 minutes before the posted time, this way you see, you're able to ensure you can unlock the door properly without keeping customers waiting. Amazon food delivery is the worst and we've been forced to use it since peapod went out of business in Chicago. (two seniors, no car) They're always out of about 25% of what we order, common things like lean ground beef. They have irrational limits, like only 3 cans of potatoes or only 6 bottles of Pellegrino. If they'd stock properly they'd make more money and happier customers. They regularly squash softer items like cookies under heavy cans, despite complaints. read more

Love live, this store. The contactless checkout is incredibly convenient and interesting. It is somewhere between Whole Foods and Jewel. I love the size of it, I do not want another warehouse store. If I want local products I go the my local Food Co-OP. I shop here once a week now and I love the product availability and being able to participate in this futuristic grocery shopping that will only get better. read more
