After the first visit I should have never went back but I gave her not one but two more chances to try to fix the mess she made. I am happy and content with my full lips permanent makeup. NO harsh lip line, natural color. PROBLEM: uneven curve of the upper lip that is noticeable with dark lipstick. LESS painful than expected due to the frequent application of lidocaine in between tattoo process. After a day, plumped lips due to swelling. Scabbing followed with heavy application of Vaseline for proper healing. Maureen quickly understood my concern, noticed the difference and didn't hesitate on the color of choice for au natural look. Went there because of a Groupon or some deal... not a fan of the area where this office is... place is extremely inconveniently located, with difficult street parking... the building is old, and the office is older... and not very aesthetic or serene... saw some odd setup for nail station, and random other things... reminded me a little bit like Hoarders... :-/ So I had called a couple times ahead, and the owner (forgot her name) told me that they ticket for not paying on Saturdays, so I paid the meter machine for a couple hours, and noticed no one else seemed to be doing the same... hmm. There's goes part of your tip lady. So, got my eyebrows done (permanent) and it was not a very good job. Initially she started using some odd color that looked red-brown (I have dark black brows) because I said I didn't want it too be dark. EEK!!!! What I meant was - not to draw a solid line (goal is natural - feathery, in an espresso shade lighter than actual brows)... NOT to make it a crazy orange color!!! Politely I asked WTH was going down and 2 minutes of me quietly asking what her dealio was... (I totally give myself props for minimal volume). So she grudgingly fixes this... while I ask her, as a 'professional' in the aesthetics industry, if it is her duty to suggest what looks good - instead of going along with (what she WRONGLY thinks is) the client's stupid-ass choice? Orange eyebrows... what is wrong with this picture? Good thing my brows came out alive... and unlike the other permanent makeup places I have been, she charges for a touch up... so if she didn't do a good job the first time, you have to pay $50 to get it fixed... 1 common phrase so eloquently describes eyelash services at Amazing Faces: YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR. Yes, Maureen may be nice, but it certainly does not mean she is good at eyelash extensions. 1. Adhesive and lashes were stuck to the skin on my eyelid, making it extremely painful to blink, let alone sleep. 2. She used flares (2 for 1 instead of individual lashes) and they definitely gave me a "dramatic" look and not in the good way if you know what I'm saying. 3. I had to pay $75 to get them removed the very next day and $300+ to get a professional to apply individual lashes. Andrew, who at the time worked at Lashe Spot, said my extensions from Amazing Faces were the worst he had ever seen and they could have ruined my natural lashes due to the aggressive nature of application. 4. I called Maureen and asked for a refund, explaining that I had to get them redone the very next day at another salon and she refused to compensate me for anything. Don't get me wrong though, at least she was nice about NOT giving me a refund or partial refund... or a sorry... or any sympathy for looking like a hot mess for 12 hours. I have been meaning to write a review now for a while, considering how wonderful my lash experiences have been at Lashe Spot and Flutter Lash. I hope this review will spare at least one doey-eyed female who is simply looking for some lash excitement from making the same mistake I did. This was my first time going to Amazing faces, and I won't be going back. I went in for the eyelash extensions, and I thought paying $75 wasn't bad since everyone else in Chicago pays over $300 for eyelash extensions.. well you get what you pay for ladies (remember that) Maureen is a sweet woman, so in no way do I want to make her feel badly, but her eyelash application isn't great, the lashes were extremely too long and i asked her to vary the size from medium to long (so it'd look natural) when It was finished i looked like a drag queen.. I had to go home and clip the lashes, so they'd look more natural and I still haven't gotten them where I want them to be, but they look much better than before! I think she is a nice lady, but I thought her eye lash extension work on me is just okay. In general, eye lash extension is totally great and I would do it again. The fake eye lash is glued to the root of your real eye lash, and I think depending on how careful the attachment is done, it may affect how long it lasts. The fake lashes are already curled so even the direction of the lash when it's attached matters... you want all your lashes to curl the same way. She was careful and she tailored the lashes to the length that I want. I just think her technique could use a little more work. She is running a $100 special so its a good price to try it out. read more

Very unprofessional. During my eyebrow tattoo she answered the phone several times in the middle of my procedure. Something with her mother she said. Then she proceeded to do the rest of my eyebrows without even changing her gloves. Extremely unsanitary. If you need to answer the phone because of an emergency, I understand, But at least change your damn gloves!! Cell phones are disgustingly dirty. During my visit she complained about how Groupon takes a huge portion of $$ and that I should have called to just get the same deal. I found that complaining to be very unprofessional and it made me feel very uncomfortable. To top it off I had to go back three times because it was uneven and too thin. Of course I was charged each time. Was this one way to just get more money because you didn't make enough on the groupon you advertised? It is taken me a year to fix the terrible clown look I was given. I regret ever going to her. I now go to somebody else who has done a fantastic job, not only color correcting the terrible color I was given, but making it look more realistic as I originally wanted. Went there yesterday with Groupon for eyeliner. The worst experience ever. You Get what you pay for, once again.. Wasnt dicussed anything prior the treatment, what kind eyeliner, how thick etc..she said it will not painfull at all because of the numbing cream, and my experience was worst than a torture. I feel sorry i didnt get up and leave.She doesnt have any make up artist experience from the way she did it. My eyeliner not even, thick in the front and thin almost not visible in the the end. She did my underline liner, which is a BIG no in any make up application and i expected to be as thin as possible..and she did the same way..thick from the nose and not visible to the end, which made my eyes small and not even. My capillaries around my eyes and especially underneath have been broken from the pressure she rubbed my eyes by removing the ink and sometimes they dont go away.. lets hope for a better;( Now, I have to pay a fortune to cover it and correcting with something else. read more

The permanent makeup - my eyebrows - needed to be redone. When I read the positive review about how well Michelle N. liked the work that had been done (and discovering there was a special offer to get the work done for only $200) i decided to try it. I was told when I started the process that a second appointment would be needed to even out any uneven spots. In the past when I have had this process done (for a a lot more $) only one application was required but I gave her the benefit of the doubt. My mistake! I'm not sure whether I should laugh or cry. My mani/pedi was an absolute joke. There is literally polish on all parts of my toes. Which is quite comical. But extremely irritating given the amount of time and energy it took to book an appointment. There was no water to soak my feet in - no trimming of my cuticles on my toes - and a pathetic exfoliation before slapping on the polish. What's worse, she took several phone calls during my appointment and complained the entire time about groupon users. my mom and I went here about 3 or 4 years ago. she wanted brows and liner - I just wanted liner. took 2 visits each to get everything the right shade and the eyeliner dark enough to be noticed. This review is for the nails. I did not have her work on my face, so no insight there. Long story short: it was easy to schedule the appointment, and the owner/technician was very nice and friendly. However, the work she performed was really poor. Pedicure included no soaking: she wrapped my feet with a microwaved towel, and then did some minor scrubbing. She filed down the toe nails, but left the cuticles untouched. All in all, bad pedicure, but still better than the manicure. The no-chip manicure was so bad that I even asked her several times about the problems. Basically all she did was take off my old polish, and reapply new one. There was no cleaning, and she didn't even file down/adjust the shape of 2 nails she clipped. She used the drill to take off the nail polish, which was highly unexpected and damaging to the nails. The nail polish was applied sloppy, uneven, and WAY too thick (which made it wavy). I was so disappointed, I wanted to take it off immediately. Since it's a no-chip and difficult to take off, I figured I'll just live with it through the holidays. Well, the first nail chipped and fell off 5 days later. By Christmas (exactly a week), I had 2 color-less nails, and in another 2 days 4 nails had no polish left, and 3 more were hanging off half-way. read more

Permanent eye liner review- HORRIBLE. One eye the liner has completely faded away. I now am lopsided looking. It was SO painful too. What a waste of time and money. Do everyone a favor and get another career. Someone should shut this place down. Tattoos are not supposed to "wash" off after a few months. Maureen is a very nice person. She did my eyebrows and explained what she was doing as she went along. I found myself still using my eyebrow pencil to fill in after the first visit. By the second visit, 3 weeks later, my brows were barely noticeable. She did them over and went darker. They looked great for a few weeks, but unfortunately, I'm back to using my eyebrow pencil. Going to try another local permanent makeup artist so hopefully, I'll have better results with him. read more

I think she did a perfect job on my light eyebrows. She is a true artist. They naturally look darker. All my eyebrow hair is still intact. The process tickles with the numbing cream. I just got my brows and eye liner done and am thrilled! I had some special circumstances and requests and Maureen did a great job. She was methodical, careful and listened to me closely. My liner looks great as do the brows! She is in an older building in the Gold Coast, but if you want to pay DOUBLE, you can get a brand new suite somewhere. I had a really great experience at Maureen's. She really listened to what I wanted and took her time with me. She got the color spot on. I had my eyebrows done with her and she payed special note to my hair color and ensuring that I wasn't planning on changing it so that she could match my brows. She used the appropriate ink as well. My Review was deleted so I am writing it again.........The only reason I am writing this review is to warn others of this woman. I Bought three groupons for this business and gave my sister and girlfriend two to go get mani/pedis at amazing faces. To preface all of this, I am throwing out my third groupon, that is how poor this "company" is. I accompanied them to the "nail salon" that is amazing faces. It is a 10 X 10 room in a high rise with no windows and no seating. I had to leave because there was nowhere for me to sit. When my girlfriend and sister came home, they showed me a manicure that appeared to have been done by a small child. The quality of this woman's work was astoundingly bad. In her defense, this was a groupon for $20, but my girlfriend could have done a better job at home for free. What is even more incredible is to think of this woman's level of attention to detail and realize that she also does permanent tattoos for makeup? I'm embarrassed to have sent my sister and girlfriend here and I highly recommend spending $5 more and going elsewhere, or take $20 and use it as toilet paper. You will at least have gotten some tangible benefit from your money. By the way the owner replied to me on my google review and said that my girlfriend and sister said she did a great job....this is not true. In fact its a bold face lie. My girlfriend did say she thought her place was cute because she felt bad and my girlfriend is a nice person. I went for the 1st time because of a Groupon for a no chip mani and regular pedicure. I will not be going back. She does not use water for the manicure or the pedicure. She heats up a wet towel in microwave and wraps it around your feet. I swear I would have one a better job in my bathtub. When I sat down to get my manicure she tells me there is a $15.00 charge to remove the existing no chip polish that is on my nails. A bottle of polish remover doesn't even cost $5 so why would I pay her $15, half of what I purchased the Groupon for. She ended up removing it for free but did a crappy and I mean crappy job on my no chip manicure. She also made sure to mention to me the brand she was using on me was for people who aren't her regular clients and a better brand on her regular clients. If you are going to her for this service DON'T. I can still see the old polish on my nails and they aren't painted evenly. read more

Both eyebrows and eyeliner not shaped the same, one eyebrow is longer and one eyeliner is wider than the other and she kept saying I think both shaped the same! I've had my lashes done a few times at Amazing Faces and love it. I'm a very picky person and will now only let Maureen touch my lashes. I've tried other salon's and had the lashes fall out with-in 1-2 weeks, they would bend and crinkle resulting in looking cheap and fake.Maureen, previously did the individual lashes but recently tried these new silk lashes, they look natural, full and take less time to apply. A plus, I have little patience sitting in the chair and I only had to have touch-ups every 3-4 weeks. I went to Maureen to have my eyebrows done. I think it's in a great location, right on State & Rush. The building is old and the office is small, which is compensated by Maureen who has a wonderful personality. I did go for two visits, as I felt my brows were too light. My friends love them and I have several friends that have used her. Upon my second visit she did darken the brows and the shape was terrific. I would definitely go back. I too used Groupon, and feel for the $99 price plus $50 touch up was more then reasonable. I went in for a touch up of my brows which were perfect except they needed a little more ink due to normal fading. Maureen failed to follow the brow lines that were already there, and when it healed, it looked like I had two eyebrows instead of one! So I went to Amazing Faces to try eyelash extensions for the first time. I thought the price was too good to be true since the last place I checked out was going to charge over $200.00. But then again the last place also said it would take at least an hour and a half to apply them and when I came to Amazing Faces it took less than half an hour. If you go to Amazing Faces you definitely are substituting the quality for a lower price tag. I walked into the small office and the nice lady took me into the back room and I laid in the dentist-style chair and not half an hour later she said she was done. My eyes were burning and she said that that was normal and that it would subside. She also said if I wanted to I could take some over the counter pain medicine. I don't think it should be necessary to take medicine just for fake eyelashes. I kept them for the night to see if they would grow on me. They were way to long and way too fake looking and on top of that I could see the adhesive that was used to make them stick. The lady kept telling me how she was using a new type of extension and that they were made of silk and they were better quality and blah blah blah. I went to dinner with my friends and they asked me what was up with my eyelashes (and not in a flattering way). The next day I came back to Amazing Faces and had them removed and got half of my money back. It definitely ruined the eyelash extension experience for me. read more

Very disappointed!!! The groupon coupon was a deal but for someone to apply permanent anything on you isn't good if they aren't able to do it correctly! I really don't know where to start with her. She first tells me that she doesn't make any money when people use the Groupon coupon...my question to her was "why do you do it" she had no response! Then she tells me that my one eye was giving her problems as she continued to go over it more than the suggested 8 times! Needless to say it felt like my eye was bleeding. Once she finally finished the top lid, I was soooo tempted to say FORGET DOING THE BOTTOM until she assured me that it wouldn't be as much of a problem as it was for the top. Like a silly person...I didn't follow my first mind and tell her to stop. I continued and now I have one lower lid where the line is lower than it should be vs. the other one that is much thicker. I personally think she cannot see well...her vision is bad! She does use her glasses but Im sure she needs a new pescription! I am very displeased especially since my husband was against me getting this procedure done in the beginning....wow.....now I need to go somewhere and get this fixed, not to mention how painful it was and I'm sure that was because of the repeat applications... I agree with Isabell D. She IS a true artist! I don't know about the mani/pedi or eyelash extensions in the lower reviews, but I had her tattoo my eyebrows & they are SPECTACULAR!!! Totally symmetrical, great color & shape~ just PERFECT... I have wanted to do this for YEARS but finally got around to it (both time & money) & did a lot of research online before doing a consultation (which most place charge for). The office is simple but who cares~ some people just don't need all that posh & fluff to do great work (& honestly, I don't care what a place LOOKS like, beyond hygiene of course, I only care about what is done to my FACE). She did such an awesome job~ worked with me to figure out the proper shape, mixed the perfect color, & it was EASY, with VERY MINIMAL pain. Botox hurts more than this!
