Expensive (as most salons are), but a really nice place. I do think you are paying for quality so I'm okay with their prices. I've had haircuts, hair color, massages, waxing, brow tint, and lash extensions here and have never had a bad experience. The girls are all friendly and talented. I remember one particular instance I asked for a melt but got something that looked much more like highlights and they fixed it free of charge on that same day. I've worked with 4 or 5 girls there due to my irregular schedule and each one was great. I recommend Amara if you live in Utah! I moved to SLC and will probably still get my hair done there. They also have a boutique and makeup bar which is fun to browse while you are waiting or after a service. read more

What an incredibly disappointing experience I had purchasing gift certificates for Christmas gifts! In response to a promotion last December, I placed an out-of-state order for two gift certificates on December 6. The individual who assisted me with the order assured me the certificates would be mailed to the home of a relative. Fast forward to our arrival for Christmas and the realization the gifts never arrived. When I called to query the business on December 26th they informed me the slow down in mail over the holidays created the delay and insisted I call them back on the 29th. I expressed my serious doubt that local mail delivery would be delayed three weeks, but they simply would not address my concern. As requested, I called back a SECOND time on the 29th to express that the gifts never arrived. At that time the young woman on the phone informed me she found them in a basket or a bin and apologized that they had never been mailed. I asked her to please ensure they were mailed immediately as I was back at my home, out of state, and she confirmed this would happen. Imagine my surprise when the certificates still had not arrived by the new year. In fact, when I placed my THIRD call on January 8th, the woman on the phone informed me the certificates were "just barely mailed a couple of days ago." On January 10th the certificates finally arrived, postmarked the date of my third call! So, THIRTY-SIX DAYS after I placed the order the certificates arrived. This was an egregious display of management incompetence, bordering on fraud. The certificates should have been mailed within a short time of the order being placed. Certainly the business should not have placed the burden on me to follow-up on their mishandling of the situation THREE TIMES. At minimum, a manager should have responded to my repeated requests and made certain the situation was addressed immediately. read more

She waxed & tinted them and showed me the most amazing product and brush to fill them in which I will use for the rest of my life! She is seriously so good at what she does. It's not a hassle to make an appointment and she is one of the sweetest girls I've met. AND they give you a drink of your choice with crushed pebble ice! I had heard good things about this salon but my experience was the opposite. My highlights where spotty and stripey, they got dye on a very expensive shirt, and left dye on my neck which resulted in a horrible rash. I've never called in to complain before but it was so awful, I did. I felt bad for the stylist, thinking that maybe she was new and asked them if I could have someone else fix it. When I went in, the previous hairstylist was forced to sit and watch the new stylist 'correct' my hair which was awkward for both of us. My hair turned out a little better this second time but I was still charged full price for this correction appointment. read more

Amara definitely has a very fun and happy vibe. I usually get my nails done here and although I love the service it does cost more than other places. I enjoy shopping in the boutique. They offer a variety of super cute clothes that are unique and fashionable. I took my mother-in-law here once and she got her hair done. She was very happy with her service and has been hooked ever since. So although the services can be pricey, they do a great job and I always leave feeling happy and beautiful. I went in to get mani and pedi in preparation for my birth of my baby. The girl I was assigned was a young sweet girl. Unfortunately, she did less than ideal on my nails. She kept dozing off while performing the service. My friend who went with my got assigned a different girl and had a completely different experience. Where the one star comes from is how the receptionist handled the situation when she asked me how my experience was and I honestly but kindly told her how it went and showed her my nails. She stared at me with a cold stare, looking at me without words. I was shocked at how she handled it. No apology, no further questions, nothing. Just a blank stare. Hopefully this one employee checking me out isn't the reflection of how Amara's owners and managers operate their business. After all, this is business. I paid for a service, it's not volunteer work they are doing here. I realize when you have a lot of employees and deal with many customers poor service like this can occasionally happen, but when it's handled poorly like it was today by the receptionist, it is completely unacceptable as a business that's in the service industry. read more

Within the last two years of giving this place a try I have had to return every single time after getting my hair cut and or colored because they did a subpar job. First time I went- they didn't apply toner to my highlights and it turned out to be an awful color. Luckily it was an easy fix for me to go back and apply some toner free of charge (as long as I walked out with my head sopping wet). Second time I decided to chop off my hair- to my shoulders. After a couple days I noticed that one side was visibly longer than the other?? I showed it to several people and they noticed as well. I came back in and my stylist agreed and fixed it. Third time I came in to put some blonde highlights in. The assistant was the one to take out my highlights and decide whether or not they needed toner. She decided I didn't need toner. Went home... and the highlights were so bright and streaky. Not what we had talked about. I came back and a different stylist applied toner and it was a little better. Luckily the streaky part was at the nape of my neck so you only noticed if my hair was pulled up. This last time I went I showed the stylist a picture of what I was wanting and I came out with platinum blonde hair when I had shown her golden blonde with some bright pieces. I was in shock. I was able to come back but this time they charged me to apply toner. It became this huge ordeal when they should have just compensated for it because clearly my hair was not the same shade as the picture I had brought in. I have given up on this salon. I feel bad writing this review but I really think a lot of these stylists are straight from hair school and still learning and experimenting with color. I went to 4 different girls and none of them were able to provide adequate service. This salon is really pricey so I feel that I should get what I paid for and be happy coming out of the salon. Apart from the York mints they offer, the best head massages I've ever received, and the cutest boutique in the front I would never recommend this salon. The only reason I'll keep coming back is to see Nikki Harward who does the best eyebrow shaping/waxing in Utah County. read more

They no longer care about the customer. I started going to AMARA in 2012 and absolutely loved it! It had a bright open floor plan with their cute little mints and soda machine. Are used to love shopping the boutique and fabulous products. The staff was great and knowledgeable and I got my lashes done every two weeks and my first set of raccoon extensions in. I continue to get the raccoons for about two years until my stylist moved out of town. I was getting married and wanted to have the extensions back in before my engagement photos the first week of October this year. I called and made an appointment and asked for their best raccoon certified stylist. I explained that I would need a stylist that would really listen to me in the placement of my extensions as I had small problems in the past with them being too high and showing through my hair. She told me I would need to see Kaitlyn and made the appointment for the following week. The following week the day of my appointment I was called into work unexpectedly to help aid with a major natural disaster and had to cancel. They said I would not be able to see Kaitlyn for another week and so I rescheduled. Now two weeks away from my engagement photos I was all dressed and ready to go see Kaitlyn when I received a phone call letting me know my grandmother had passed away that morning. Knowing that I would have to reschedule for the same week as my engagement photos if I canceled, at that point I pulled myself together and was a few minutes late to my appointment. They took me back and I met Kaitlyn and she combed her fingers through my hair and I began to tell her that I wanted four rows of the longest raccoon extensions available. She then explained that she is not comfortable doing full rows of extensions, but that she only does frontals. I was pretty upset that I had waited each week to see just her under the premise that she was the best raccoon certified stylist. She told me she would color match me and she would have a girl name Carly call me the next day with the price estimate and to schedule my extensions. She said Carli was much better at raccoon extensions than she was. The next day came and went and nobody from AMARA called me. That night I searched the Internet for any other salons that had raccoon certified stylists and came up empty. I then remembered a salon I had been to before called Ella Bloom. The next day I called and explained that I had been stood up by AMARA and given misinformation and I was now in desperate need of raccoon extensions in a very short time frame. The sweet receptionist kindly explained that there was only one stylist doing raccoons there currently and that she was booked through December. The owner happened to be standing nearby and heard the receptionist telling me this and asked to speak to me. Jamie, the owner, was so professional, caring and sweet as she then proceeded to tell me that she was the raccoon certified stylist and asked me what exactly I needed. I recounted the story to her and was completely taken aback when she said she would not only fit me in to get my extensions done even if it meant coming in on her day off and she would get them done on time for engagement photos! Over the next few days she made time to get me color matched, do my highlights and also paired me with a great make up artist Who also went above and beyond by coming in on her day off also for the engagement photos. She did all of that and more! Ella Bloom is now the only salon that has my business. I wound up not just getting my raccoons done on time and beautifully but buying all the Kevin Murphy products to go with it and using multiple other services there resulting in me very happily spending thousands of dollars the following week. AMARA just does not care about their customers enough anymore to follow through, give correct information, know the abilities(or lack there of) of their stylists, or have compassion to not treat people like just another number in the door. PLEASE DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY. Do not use Carlie or Brittany for Racoon hair extensions YOUR HAIR WILL FALL OUT!!!! Terrible customer service. Here is our experience. My daughter is a college student, works two jobs and makes little money. She went in for a consultation with Carlie Elder to see about getting Racoon hair extensions. Carlie claimed she had been doing them for 5 years. She looked through my daughter's hair and quoted her $600. This is a lot of money but was told it would last up to 3 months. The internet said it would last 3 months also. My daughter had Carlie put them in. When it was time to pay, Carlie told her that it was $800. My daughter said you quoted me $600. Carlie said blonde hair is more expensive. During the initial consultation my daughter had blonde hair. How the price could go up $200 is a very bad way to conduct business. My daughter had done a lot of research and many Racoon customers claimed they use their own shampoo. Carlie asked my daughter if she wanted to purchase the Racoon shampoo, which is another $50 and my daughter asked if she could use the salon shampoo that she already had at home. Carlie said "we can't guarantee the extensions if you don't use the Racoon shampoo, but if you are going to use something else don't use Dry remedy, use Damage Remedy shampoo because it has protein." That was the end of the shampoo conversation. My daughter took this as okay to use Damage Remedy, from what Carlie said. She had her hair washed one time at Amara salon and one time at another salon for a total of two times in two weeks. Half of her $800 hair had fallen out in two weeks. She called Amara three times and left messages before finally getting a call back from Carlie. She made another appointment for Carlie to see her hair. I went with her this time. Carlie agreed she had lost a ton. She called over Brittany Johnstun, who is the Racoon representative and also employed by Amara, Orem. Brittany was rude and condescending to my daughter. She patted my daughter's shoulders and told her, "let this be a lesson to you". My daughter explained to Brittany the short conversation she had with Carlie about the shampoo. Brittany said she knows that Carlie would never say that, because protein is the worst thing you can put on the extensions. Carlie stood quietly and didn't say a word, didn't deny saying it, but didn't say she said it either. She didn't want to take any fault in the situation and my daughter was out $800. I asked Brittany if the Racoon shampoo was that important, why it wasn't sold in a package with the hair and bond. She said because it is optional. I asked what they could do for my daughter and they said she could pay $425 more to have the little hair she had left rotated, in hopes of saving what she had left. I said we were not going to invest $1225 for extensions that were half gone and falling out with no guarantee. I asked if she could at least have the money back on the mark-up that is charges on the Racoon hair she bought. Brittany said, "no, if I gave back my profit to everyone that is unhappy, I wouldn't make any money" Right there, that told me a lot of people are unhappy. Brittany said she felt bad my daughter was out $800, but wasn't willing to do anything for her. We were at the salon for 45 minutes with Brittany not willing to budge or do anything for my daughter. Finally I said you keep your money, but I am going to go to social media and tell of this experience. Carlie said she would have the manager call us to work out a solution. The next day the Amara, Orem Salon Manager, Taylor Binks called me and we were on the phone for another 20 minutes. I explained everything to him. I asked him what he could do for my daughter, he would not offer any solutions. He kept asking me for solutions. I asked if my daughter could get the mark-up on the hair reimbursed, he said he couldn't do that. I asked if she could get a $200 credit for salon services because they charged $200 more than quoted and he said they couldn't do that either. I again asked what they could do and he couldn't give me any ideas. I finally said I have spent over an hour of my time trying to come up with a solution and no one is willing to budge. I again told them I was going to go to social media and tell them of the terrible experience we had with Amara, Orem. So my daughter is out $800. It is just sickening. World class boutique! I've found so many unique items that I get so many compliments on: from bags to shoes to earrings to dresses, swimsuits and hats-Amara has it all! They have good prices, always stuff marked down, and great biannual sales! (I'm talking I set my alarm!) Their massages- forget about those $50 massage clubs; this is $60 for a full hour, towels and essential oils included! (By the time you "upgrade" at other places it's the same or more, so this is a better value). For hair, I love their chairs/sinks for washing hair- no sore necks here-and you'll always get a great scalp massage. Great color! Fun makeup. Good spray tans. Really there's something for everyone- gel nails, waxing- and they work hard to keep you happy! read more
