I had never had one before, and had no idea what to expect. On top of that, I have some pretty intense dental phobia from bad past dental experiences, so I usually take Valium the night before and morning of dental procedures. But Dr. Cory managed to put me enough at ease to go ahead with the procedure *sans Valium* on the spur of the moment. NGL, it was not my favorite way to spend a morning, but he and his staff were so caring and patient, they made the experience easier than I ever would have imagined. So I am going to stick with this Dentist office, even though scheduling time for cleanings is nearly impossible if you miss an appointment. The ability to put me at ease during a procedure is a rare quality, and worth any inconveniences I might have going forward.

She's personable and has a soft touch with a scraper. It was my first time here. I checked in, and electronically signed some standard (or what I thought were standard) consent forms. The receptionist had the hard copies on the counter, briefly explained what each form was, and I signed an electronic pad. This is at the heart of my issue with this business. After I E-signed, she also gave me some additional hard copy forms to look over and sign. They were standard medical background forms. When I was done with my appointment, what I'm guessing was the billing dept told me that I owed $10. My insurance covers all costs incurred in annual exams, so this surprised me. I asked what the charge was for and she just said "PPE fees". I asked what those were, and she shortly replied, "For the Personal Protective Equipment... Did you sign the form? Yes, you did sign it." When she mentioned a form, I assumed I had missed something on the paperwork I had been given and just decided to pay it. I left, with $10 less in my pocket, a future appointment in June, and a request for an estimate for a night guard and a crown with my insurance company. When I got in my car, I realized that the "form" that I had signed about PPE fees was probably one of the forms I signed electronically. I'll admit, the receptionist mentioned my responsibility for charges not covered by insurance (which seems to be a pretty standard statement), but she never mentioned a PPE fee. Why wasn't I given hard copies of the forms that I had signed electronically? I'm guessing, because buried somewhere in those forms is the explanation of the PPE charges. Pretty deceptive if you ask me. I'm angry at myself for paying. When I walked out of the office, I had a few thousand dollars in future business lined up for Midwest Dental. They lost that business over a greedy $10 PPE fee. Talk about taking advantage during a pandemic. The $400 dollars that you got from my insurance company wasn't enough? When I called to cancel my insurance estimate and my future appointment, I was asked why. I told Megan--I believe it was Megan, that I didn't think a $10 fee was helpful in building a long term relationship. Instead of explaining why the fee was necessary, she just mentioned that other places were charging $20. She was short and unpleasant on the phone.
