came in for an initial exam and x-rays. I was charged a deductible of $50 even though my insurance policy does not have a deductible for those two services I received. The clinic apologized for their mistake and said they could refund it, but that the person who can process the refund wouldn't be in for another week. They said they could do cash and as I was driving back to get the $50 cash from the mistake they made, they called me to say they didn't have cash and there was absolutely nothing they could do until next week when the person will be in who can process refunds. I spent a couple years checking in to replacing my 4 front top teeth. Last August my regular dentist told me I couldn't wait any longer. So I researched for another 2 months, compared service, experience, price, and advice. I settled on Almond Dental. He had, by far, the most experience price was very good, but mostly his advice just made sense. I liked that his lab is 1 floor down. So if the implants need a little tweaking, it's a few minutes instead of a few weeks. Pain management with Dr Kumar and staff was the best I've ever experienced. Houria was the Technician who provided the Zoom Whitening and other support services. She was amazing. I've spent the last 50 years self conscious of my smile because my teeth looked so awful. Be warned they will try to sell you so many things that are not necessary. It felt like visiting a nail salon where they try to push so many additional products that you have to pay out of pocket. Pa the hygienist was extremely unprofessional and rude. She clearly doesn't like her job and is terrible at it. She made me feel so uncomfortable and as if I am a burden. She is very careless in the way she cleans so you should expect your gums to bleed and doesn't even have the decency to give you a rinse. Her uncleanliness and incompetence was unmatched. My teeth were not bad before I had braces, and I am now on my 3 year of braces because she would take so long, or couldn't get me in. Today, I requested removal. I can not say enough about this office and the work they do. I had Dr. Kumar cap some of my front teeth by choice he did a great job. I recently had to go for other problems. Ended having 4 teeth pulled 2 implants. I am in the waiting stage so have a temp flapper. He was so understanding and was great. And for billing working with me on that putting some this year into insurance and the rest next year to help with the cost. Only had to put small portion down right away . This is a lengthy review; however in order to cover all aspects which I find to be important in choosing health care, I believe it's imperative to including specifics. You'll silently thank me after you've met & chosen my Dental Facility. I have been a patient at Almond Dental for approximately 15 years now & after my first appointment with Dr. Kumar I decided to get some much needed dental care done after being bedridden for many years from extensive injuries that I endured as a passenger with a bus & semi truck accident. Being bedridden for many years meant that my dental care was neglected. After my initial dental assessment Dr. Kumar assured me that he would work with me to take care of all of my dental needs & I felt confident that this would happen. I have had most every service imaginable from cavity fillings, teeth whitening, root canals, teeth pulled, decaying tooth root & bone loss surgery, (sorry I'm not familiar with the technical terminology for this procedure), implants,(screws), abutments, teeth implants, superficial fillings,(on teeth where gums recede with age). And of course Dr.Kumar has given me novocain with these procedures, which is also something to mention because his technique with giving a novocain shot is painless, (yes, I genuinely mean this, painless!). As a Grandmother of 7 I have been going to the dentist for all of my life, so I've experienced just about everything imaginable regarding dentistry and I must say that Dr.Kumar has the warmest personality, he's very kind & welcoming, he is very knowledgeable, professional, and personable. Dr. Kumar makes each procedure very comfortable for me; as he is extremely capable, he works diligently with precision & delicacy, checking with me throughout the entire procedure assuring my comfort. Additionally being a patient in his office for all of these years I have witnessed how he treats all of his patients with these same attributes I've mentioned above. Got the service I needed but I felt like an object on an assembly line. They tried to up sell me every chance they got, they threw things on my chest as they were working on my teeth, insensitively poked and prodded, ignored me when it was clear I was very uncomfortable and in a lot of pain. I've had a TON of dental work in my life and I've never been treated so thoughtlessly and disrespectfully. The hygienists I had made me feel like a burden. They were so unbelievably rude there were moments I considered walking out on the spot. The dentists were *fine,* but not good enough to keep me coming back. Avoid this place. I went to #AlmondDental on JUNE 22nd and TODAY I get a call, SEVENTEEN WEEKS to the day. She says she was "looking at my chart and it looks like I need some fillings". I told her I was told by Dr. Kumar that my teeth were "cavity free". I asked for a referral to an orthodontist and left. FOUR and a half MONTHS later? I told her she needs to talk to the dentist and get back to me. She just called back and said "You don't have any cavities but you have scratched enamel on your 4 and 5 and they want to fill it. Oh, by the way, we recommended a crown for you". THAT is where I interrupted her and said "You're looking for ways to charge me FOUR MONTHS after my cleaning. We're done. Let them know, I'm looking for a new dentist." WTF?? Who still has my dental chart out and why wasn't anything mentioned at the point of services? Went to dr Kumar for an implant There was a Groupon for 3thousand something plus the cost of the Groupon. They did the implant and I went back a few months later because I was having problems chewing on that side and food getting caught in between the crown and back crown. The crown was a goofy shape which left the gap he said he couldn't fix it unless he replaced the the crown behind the implant but he thought I should leave it alone but to fix would be 1700! Went to another dentist for a second opinion because now I'm having pain in the tooth In front of the implant! Dr Kumars office put the implant very deep and it is pressing on the tooth's root in front of the implant so now I have to pay another dentist 3800 to fix because I don't trust Dr Kumar to fix it right! I went here and got a tooth extraction and they tore a hole in my septum. It still hasn't healed correctly. When I sat up I almost choked on the water that they had used to rinse my mouth out with. They also quoted me for a dental implant, offering a special that never was taken off my bill and went way over quoting price. When I asked about it they said "don't worry about it. It doesn't show on your bill but it was taken off." I had to wait months for my implant only to call two months later and was told that I had to come in to get remeasured. (Because they lost my measurements and or forgot to turn them in to begin with) When they did finally get it in. It fit well and all was good until I got the bill with an adjustment of 1500 dollars entered on the day of - from a charge back in 2019 that my insurance supposedly never payed! They were put in incorrectly and I was in pain for three months and the dentist kept telling me I was fine. I finally had to go to an oral surgeon to have them removed and re-done. Absolutely first-rate dental clinic. My family has been using this clinic for years. Dr. Kumar is knowledgeable and friendly, and the clinic has very new and high-tech equipment. My hygienist, Debbie, is very competent and tremendously nice and makes each visit comfortable and easy. Everything has worked out well, including my daughter's wisdom teeth extraction. The cost is quite competitive. In fact, for the wisdom teeth I shopped around and was delighted to find that my favorite dentist was also the least expensive. They are very attentive to detail and they have pretty high tech devices like a portal camera that takes an image of your teeth! Money hungry dentistry! I was talked into putting 3 white fillings in to replace my old silver. I thought sure why not. I had 3 done on my left side. It has now been 6 weeks and I am not able to chew on my left side! I am in constant pain and sharp zaps of hot and cold. What was Almonds advise you ask? Apparently all of a sudden NOW I need a root canal on all 3 teeth! How is Almond not to blame for this terrible practice? Be careful when you are given an estimate of your treatment costs from Twin Cities Dental. They supposedly checked with my insurance company prior to giving me an estimate for my fillings, and gave me a quote of less than $200. A few months later, I was sent a bill for an additional balance of nearly $800. This was an expensive lesson to learn: check with your own insurance company before agreeing to a treatment, and DO NOT trust this office with anything. After a few weeks of arguing with them, they eventually agreed to reduce the balance, but only if I did not report them to the state board of dentistry. Needless to say, I reported them anyway, as this was a completely unethical request and known as blackmail. Stay away from this dentist. I do not write reviews, but this one is important for people to read. It borders on an ethics complaint but my teeth have not fallen out and no nerves were damaged and so I am thankful, but others may not be as lucky. This used to be Twin Cities Dental. I had been a customer with my family of 5 off and on since 2009 and then internal strife occurred at that practice and good dentists began to leave. Then the strange activities began after I switched to Dr. Kumar. He would pass me on to the other dentists without explanation, and without my ability to say "no" if I wanted to be seen. I work and I have children, so schedules are tough to coordinate and I felt trapped. On one instance, a cavity that my son supposedly had miraculously vanished when payment options were not agreed upon. The tooth did not fall out. On another instance, I was to have a filling replaced and scheduled the appointment only to find out that the dentists were switched on me last minute and the new dentist did not speak English well enough to communicate with me regarding my pain levels and discomfort. I then found myself in severe pain and nobody could explain why after 2 weeks of getting a simple temporary crown while waiting for the permanent crown to come in, I was in excruciating pain. I had to go get a second opinion and was advised to request a Narcotics prescription, which felt like pulling teeth to obtain (pun intended) and I have no history of drug or alcohol abuse! It was ridiculous. The other dentist had to drill in my mouth again. Front staff were mostly kind, and conveyed empathy but that stopped there as everything else behind the appearance of customer service is false, fake. Like the teeth they claim to put in, okay that's a bad joke but you get what I am saying. Once the permanent crown was placed I left and joined the practice that gave me a second opinion about the horror I had been through at Dr. Kumar's office AKA Almond Dental, previously Twin Cities Dental. I need to add that on 4 separate occasions, I had an evening appointment with Dr. Kumar which he cancelled. No explanation given other than he doesn't like to stay past 5pm. Then why be open past 5pm? Rhetorical. The last time I walked into his office to resume being a client, I recall a man arguing with the front staff. I was shocked because that doesn't happen at the dental offices I frequent really, but then I witnessed this on 5 other occurrences and it was different customers. This was coincidentally before their business name change. I didn't listen to my gut. Listen to your gut! If the rooms seem like there is no privacy and you can hear the conversations going on in the waiting room, perhaps they aren't quite up to par with patient confidentiality. I'm just saying. When my kids got their teeth cleaned and they didn't actually clean their teeth or have Dr. Kumar check their mouth before leaving ... I asked a question. I was told that insurance doesn't reimburse more than $75, so it's not worth it for them "to go full out." I have had excellent dentists in the past. The kind who use up-to-date equipment and who wash their hands in front of you and who don't walk around the halls answering questions about other patients during your time in the chair --with their gloves still on, only to then place the same gloves in your mouth without switching them out. Now, let's discuss staff turnover. There is a revolving door of young and attractive dental assistants. Whether they are competent is another question all entirely. Dr. Kumar appears to be an individual for whom appearances are more important than the actual dentistry/work that he performs. One of his assistants had holes and stains on his smock/uniform while working on my mouth this last May 2017 btw. He didn't give a F, much like honey badger (please GOOGLE the reference to feel my pain here). The kicker is that after our records were requested from Dr. Kumar's clinic (we went elsewhere finally), he wrote me a letter telling me that I am not welcomed back at his practice. I choose to go elsewhere and this guy writes me a letter scolding me. My husband and I laughed out loud because it only serves to cement the notion that this dentist is an egomaniac. My belief is that he is flirting with a malpractice lawsuit, but the way that the records are kept there seems rather contrived so proving it without injury might be tough. For instance, this letter that I received months after having left and requested my X-Rays for my new clinic was the not dated photocopy... So, If I were to decide to file a complaint with the MN board of dentistry, he could undoubtedly concoct whatever fantastical story he wishes and place notes in my records. As paranoid and probably crazy as my story sounds, it is real and it did happen. DO NOT GO TO HIS PRACTICE IF YOU VALUE YOUR HEALTH or money. read more

Dental implant was easy and stress free. I have been going to Twin Cities Dental for several years and have had nothing but exceptional care. I drive a across town to see Dr. Kumar because he always does an excellent job and I feel he is the best. He explains to you everything he is going to do and what to expect. If you are thinking about getting an implant, get it done here with Dr. Kumar. I was unsure about getting one after hearing other horror stories from my friends that went to other implant dentist.
