I love, love, love this restaurant! These are the best tapas I have ever had and the service absolutely exceptional. I plan to come here on a regular basis ! I highly recommend coming to this res when you are in Philly!

Tortilla and shishito peppers, happy hour
Lala C.

Enjoyed my happy hour tapas experience here. Opted for the bar to try some of favorite tapas, tortilla, shishito peppers, and the garlic shrimp. The tortilla was the best, shishito peppers were nicely charred with crunchy finishing salt. Shrimp were good, about 6 to an order but a tad overcooked for me. Happy hour red sangria was tasty with plenty of freshly chopped fruit. Bartender offered efficient pleasant service. Dining room was filling up despite the early dining hour. Amada has been on must try list since it was closed for holidays last year when I had visited the city. So glad it was open, a delicious meal that exceeded expectations. Gracias!

78/100 Amada is certainly a good date night restaurant with its polished interior, small bites, and intimate lighting. However I found it to be unsuitable to dining with a large group due to it being very loud and crowded. I'd recommend the tasting set if you want to be full when you leave without breaking the bank. --- I dined at Amada on Friday night with a party of 8. Typical of a Friday night in Philly, Amada was packed. It was incredibly loud, which meant you couldn't hear anyone past those seated directly next to you. Our server, Alexander, was excellent. Since the whole restaurant was fully seated, service was a little slow (2 hours for our meal-not tasting menu), but his attitude and friendliness were exceptional. The tapas (small bites) are meant to be shared, meaning it will come out at different times if you all order individually. The staff plated nuts separately so that we could still share while being mindful of our party's dietary restriction. We ordered numerous tapas try for the table: (1) chorizo Bilbao, (2) piquillos (crab-stuffed peppers), (3) tortilla española (Spanish omelette), (4) espãrragos blancos (asparagus), (5) pimientos de padrõn (shishito peppers), (6) setas (mushrooms), (7) torreznos (crispy pork belly), and (8) chicken skewers. Overall, everything came out smaller than we expected for the price. (Not too upset since it's a $$$/$$$$ restaurant.) The flavor of every dish was tasty, if not all a bit salty. The standouts for us were the: (2) piquillos, (3) tortilla española, and (8) chicken skewers. I really enjoyed the crab filling of the piquillos, the balance of flavors in the tortilla, and the juiciness of the chicken. In the end, we racked up quite a bill and were still hungry afterwards. Personally, Amada is out my price range, but everything was quite flavorful. For others, I would recommend dining at Amada with smaller parties (6 or less) to accommodate the loud ambiance. Amada is definitely better suited for a romantic date spot or small gathering. For better value, the tasting set may make more sense.

I did a tour around Philly and decided to pop in here for happy hour and I was pleasantly surprised by how good everything was. The atmosphere is dimly lit and romantic, as I was eating alone I sat at the bar. There were plenty of seating available so that was a plus for me Service was quick and attentive Garlic shrimp: 4/5, loved it! I love the garlic flavor of shrimp which was cooked to perfection. Chicken skewers: 4/5, loved! The chicken was moist and packed with flavor. I enjoyed my meal here and my overall experience

How do I rate this place, first I'll say the atmosphere is great, it had a warm and welcoming feeling. For tapas we had the salmon, croquetas de Jamon, and Pinchos de pollo, the Pinchos were very good, croquetas were not so good, and salmon was just ok. For drinks we had the white sangria (don't order it, this is just cheap wine with a few pieces of fruit in it), the Mojito (awesome), the old fashioned (really well made). Finally for the main dish we decided on the paella Valenciana. Really bad decision, it was one of the worst paella's I've ever had, actually no, it was the worse paella I've ever had. They earn gold on "worse paella". If you've ever had Spanish or Portuguese food and you enjoyed it, this place isn't for you. If you've never had it, don't try this place because this shouldn't be your point of reference as to what Iberian food should taste like. I know, I didn't mention service, it was okay. Overall, and this is hard for me, because I really wanted to like this place, this place gets a 3 for food, a 6 for drinks and some appetizers.

I was excited to visit Amara for restaurant week! Having multiple courses and being at a tapas place allowed us to try a full range of the menu! It was a prefix menu, but there were options for everyone! Some of our favorites were the Brussels and manchego. Things we would not order again- short rib which sadly lacked flavor and the octopus was delicious but there was barley a half of a tentacle on the plate. Didn't have a wide selection of wine by the glass. They definitely promote buying by the bottle. Service was good but I wish we got new plates for each course!

Hair in salmon

Went to Amada for restaurant week and unfortunately didn't have a very good experience. For starters our waiter had an extremely unpleasant attitude and was rushing us from the moment we sat down. She removed plates from our table while we were in the middle of eating. The calamari was their best item. Chorizo was inedible and tortilla española was extremely salty. The salmon was great until a couple bites in we discover a long blonde hair in the middle of the dish (mind you none of us have long blonde hair lol). We pointed this out to our server who did not apologize. The only thing she said was "want another?" We said no as we felt quite nauseous thinking about the hair and she just took the dish and walked away. They continued to bring the rest of the dishes we ordered but at this point you can't enjoy the meal when all you're thinking about is the long hair you just found in your food. Still no acknowledgment or apology from the waiter. When she brought the check out she said she removed the salmon which is the only reason Im giving 2 stars. We thanked her and left. It's not about the price it's about the principle. We were very disappointed with the service and the lack of a response right when we discovered the hair. An appropriate response would be "We sincerely apologize for this and we will let our chef / manager know" Wouldn't recommend. Servers are not very professional and quality of food is low.

Tasty food for what we got! For the price point, I wish the portions were bigger. The ambiance of the place was amazing, it's a nice place to grab a drink. We do wish the service was better. We didn't get our waiter to come by until an hour after getting seated and by the time we placed our food orders, it was last call for food, so we couldn't order more despite wanting more food.

All three desserts. One as amazing as the other. But that Arroz con leche!

Remember the time you went to The Melting pot just to have chocolate fondue and cocktails? Wait... that was me. This place reminds me of that. Go for the amazing cocktails- all of them - especially the ones with Sherry or Vermouth. And the desserts- all 3 of them. Pairing the quince Crusta with the paprika-sugar rim and the Arroz con leche with crispy puffed rice on top was chef's kiss. If you have to have proper sustenance first, get the stuffed dates: Dátiles--Medjool dates stuffed with ground almonds, wrapped in bacon, and served over a warm bleu cheese fondue. Maybe 2 orders. Perfect for date night or a weeknight indulgence. Thank me later!

The flavor, presentation, and quality of all the dishes we had were fantastic. I was most impressed with the asparagus and salmon with the amount of flavor they had. Our waitress was so sweet and patient - really kind staff. The ambiance was moody, warm, and elevated. I would come back for a special occasion!

Such good food and ambiance. I just came back from Barcelona in January and this took me back a bit. Our drinks were potent. Food came out quick and with lots of flavor. Everything was delicious. I wanted to try everything after having a few things. Staff were nice and inviting. I surely want to return.

long time amada goer here. recently they added and changed a few things so I thought i'd give some input. as usual the service, and ambience was impeccable. I am vegetarian, so here are my thoughts on the new items. Ensalade Verde: is the absolute best salad in the city. in the country even. absolute must get. it's big, however me and my sister still refuse to split it. definitely shareable though if you're not as greedy. Patatas Bravas: slightly different iteration than their past one. I think it's actually better. you get more potato's, more sauce, and the sauce just tastes slightly better but who knows. always ordered when we go Brussels Catalana: technically there is blue cheese in this, however, I am a certified blue cheese hater and I had no idea. so don't be turned off by that. first time having this dish and it was solid. good portion, well coated, right texture. will get again Pimientos De Pardon: shishito peppers were good, decent amount of them. I think everyone had three and we had 4 people. wouldn't get again just because there are other things more worth it but still great. Unknown Cauliflower dish: i'm not seeing it on the menu, so maybe it was just removed, but it was essentially a cauliflower gratin dish. I wouldn't get again. it was good, but lacked salt and was basically just a cauliflower in some heavy cream with a tiny amount of bread crumbs. Valenciana Paella: this has meat in it obviously, but I did eat around the pieces. if you're vegetarian and don't mind your food touching the meat, it's very easy to pick around. all the meat pieces are medium sized. This was very good, the rice was amazing, the watercress was so good. presentation was great. worth the time and money especially if you eat meat Ganache de Chocolate: pretty good. honestly interested in trying the rice pudding next. or just ordering another patatas bravas for dessert. shareable between two people. Passion fruit mocktail: MUST GET for all non drinkers! expensive? yes. worth it? yes. taste is great and it's also a nice thing to have if you're with others who drink and don't want to be left out. it's set up just like an alcoholic drink would be.

Gambas al Ajillo and Bruselas Catalana
Lisa G.

Amada is Chef Garces' iconic first restaurant. When searching for a romantic dinner location during our weekend away in Philadelphia, we searched no further than Amada. Entering the rustic industrial space one is immediately nestled in a warm and sexy ambiance. This tapas style restaurant offers a plethora of delicious bites expertly prepared and complemented by vast wine and cocktail selections . We chose The Estrella and Pain & Glory cocktails to start. The Estrella is a vodka based drink mixed with St. Germain, lemon, blueberry and finished with club soda. The P&G is a habanero tequila based drink blended with agave, lime and fresh apples. Both were a wonderful pairing with our tapas selections. We began with Gambas al Ajillo and the Bruselas Catalana. The shrimp were plump, perfectly cooked and steeped in a rich and flavorful garlic sauce that offered a slight hint of smoky heat. The Brussels were like none I have ever tried and probably the best I've ever had, and I am a frequent Brussels eater! They are enveloped in a Valdeon fondue then sprinkled with pine nuts and tart green apple. A marriage of flavors absolutely made in heaven! Last we culminated our meal with the Entrecote, a thinly sliced Wagyu Skirt Steak served with a bright and herbaceous chimichurri and a petite Salmon filet served with a Saffron Vinaigrette. The steak was beautifully marbled and the preparation highlighted the natural rich flavor of the meat. The salmon skin was seared to perfection and the filet was moist, juicy and seasoned to perfection. Overall, Amada is a MUST when in the Philly area. Chef Garces' first concept is truly first rate!! You will not be disappointed!!

I asked for my egg to be 'cooked through'. The restaurant makes its own English Muffins from a sourdough bread - they are outstanding! The farm eggs were cooked perfectly and the Cooper Sharp Cheese with a little mayo gave the sandwich a savory, rich taste. The French Fries were good - thin, a little crisp on the outside, but tender inside. They made a nice side with the sandwich. Well, I'm sorry I waited so long to try this wonderful little cafe! The Breakfast Sandwich is a must! I'll be anxious to stop back and try another dish!

Somehow, Via Locusta was designated to be the environment for this. There was plenty of outdoor seating, which we did not take advantage of for various reasons. The main reason being that employment was keeping one of the girls hostage and we could not do a timed dinner, so free-range bar was the only option. The interior was so cute and there were open French doors to the outside that was so nice. The decor was cute and very round. Great vibes all around. The bathroom was kind of quite dark, but very roomy. The vibes were there, the girls were (eventually all) there, but what about the food and drinks? Valencia: citrusy and fun. Bergamot: kind of reminded me of the Bee's Knees at Dear Daphni (I think). Focaccia: banging! The focaccia was so soft and airy--truly a beautiful piece of bread. The honey butter served with it was amazing. The butter had bee pollen dusted over the top in a honeycomb pattern, which was so cute. Leek Agnolotti: this was umami (or truffle-like) and saucy. I liked it. Milanese Sandwich: kind of dry to be honest. I love sauce and saucing up my food and having saucy food, so a dry chicken sandwich is truly a tragedy for me. We did dip it into the honey butter, marinara, and whatever sauces were available from the other dishes. The chicken was thin and crispy, but dry. Fritto Misto: classic fried shrimp and calamari! Wished it was cocktail sauce--love cocktail sauce bad. Salmon and Octopus Spiedini: I preferred the octopus to the salmon. The salmon was tender and soft, which was probably how I launched a chunk off my fork and onto the floor. The salsa verde over the skewer was a great touch to it. Meatballs: very strong flavor--still not sure what the strong flavor was. It could've been the herby seasoning, but the meat was also a little odd--ok at best. I would not get this again. I would come again, but happy hour probably would not be what I am there for. The rest of the menu does seem interesting. If my girls are ever craving pasta and down to spend $56 on the Chef's Tasting, I will be ready. Definitely come during the spring/summer season to enjoy the open inside-outside layout. However, it was the Grilled Focaccia that brought the spread to its peak. Light and slightly crunchy it was so delicious with the hummus! Next up, the Pistachio Herbed Ricotta with Lavender Honey Bruschetta. I took my first bite started to chew and had to close my eyes as I was transported to a 'heavenly' taste. The pistachio with the creamy ricotta was amazing, and with the lavender honey, it was over the top. I told the server it could be a dessert as well! The idea of it sounds nice but in reality, the music was too loud which made it difficult to chat and communicate with the server. The problem is the small space with a whole band. The music wasn't disruptive but just loud. I think it's nice to listen to if I wasn't trying to chat. There's happy hour menu 5-7PM with items from three large categories: ceviche, skewers, and fried starch. They don't post their HH menu online. We ended up ordering: caderas skewer, bacalaitos, short rib carne guisada, seafood asopao, vaca frita The server was nice about pointing out how our order of one regular appetizer with an entrée is already more expensive than going with their prix fixe with comes with an extra dessert. She allowed us to only have one prix fixe for the table, and she applied our most expensive entrée to it. Appreciate that! Skewer - I thought we ordered steak but it came out to chicken. Slightly frustrated about the language barrier. I legit tried to google and translate to find out what's what, and the quick search turned out wrong. bacalaitos - This was solid. The crab dip wasn't too creamy and filling. The chip was a bit oily but it was sturdy in holding up the dip. Kinda cool how the fish is in the chip. Short rib - It was tender. The red wine sauce was earthy. I think they gave too much sauce and it's a little too thin for what it is. A piece of food dropped from my fork and it created a big splash on my white shirt....I know it's my fault but I do think they can provide less sauce especially when there isn't bread or starch to soak it up. The variety of potatoes was pleasant. There were purple and yellow ones which all had slightly different tastes. Since we got the prix fixe we ordered the flan dessert. The server gave us complimentary buñuelos because we were celebrating a birthday. They only had three desserts on the menu, and my group struggled to decide which one to pick. Two of them didn't like coconut, so it was easy to eliminate one of them. I'm glad the complimentary dessert wasn't that one. The flan was the denser side with obvious air bubbles inside which indicates too high temperature and overcooking. The pickled papaya wasn't additive in terms of tartness or sweetness. The buñuelos came out warm. It was kind of bland without the sauce, but the sauce itself wasn't unique either. Overall my friends like the food. I think it's solid but could use some fine tuning. I was more bothered by the environment. I'm open to trying this place again but I might prefer to try new restaurants when I visit Philly next time. Also I think they're a bit pricier amongst nearby options. They have a 3% credit card surcharge which is added to the food subtotal, and tax is applied on top of the surcharge as well.

Sure, there has been the occasional hiccup here and there, but that's simply the reality of the service industry. What matters is that the overall experience has been consistently excellent, and over time I've come to know and appreciate many members of your team. My most recent visit, however, reminded me exactly why I keep coming back and fully reaffirmed my ongoing state of Barcelona Bliss. I recently made reservations for myself and a friend to celebrate his birthday. Wanting to guarantee a great evening, there was really only one choice: Barcelona. As an added bonus, I had attended UNCORKED and was fortunate enough to win an extra prize along with my free tapas button: a $100 credit toward a bottle of wine. From the moment we walked through the door, the evening was off to a great start. We were greeted by Elliot, my favorite person at Barcelona. I've always found him to be welcoming, attentive, personable, and genuinely funny. In fact, he was one of the original reasons we became regulars. When he first served us, he combined exceptional service with an engaging personality that made every visit feel special. As always, he was on top of everything and even made a point of wishing my friend a happy birthday. I could spend pages describing the food, service, and atmosphere, but I'll spare you my rambling. Suffice it to say, the evening was exceptional. Every member of the team seemed committed to making sure we had a memorable experience. Whether it was the thoughtful suggestion to combine our table with another when our growing collection of tapas and wine began to outgrow the available real estate, the delightful sommelier, a funny and attentive blonde woman whose name I unfortunately can't remember, who guided us to the perfect bottle, or our server, who never missed a beat and seemed to anticipate every need before we could ask, every member of the team contributed to making the evening truly special. The 2024 Gessamí was an inspired recommendation and undoubtedly one of the highlights of the night. Fragrant and beautifully balanced, with notes of jasmine, citrus, and ripe stone fruit, it was vibrant, refreshing, and paired wonderfully with our seemingly endless parade of tapas. The entire experience was lovely, fun, memorable, and genuinely impressive. While I unfortunately can't remember the names of either the sommelier or our server, that is in no way a reflection of their service. If anything, it simply highlights the shortcomings of my memory. Their attentiveness, professionalism, warmth, and contributions to the evening certainly did not go unnoticed and are greatly appreciated. This visit reminded me exactly why Barcelona has become such a favorite destination. Time and again, you deliver the perfect combination of outstanding food, exceptional wine, genuine hospitality, and an atmosphere that somehow feels both exciting and comfortable at the same time. While Barcelona Wine Bar is certainly a great name, in my mind it will always be known as my Barcelona Bliss.

We sat outside, and I actually never even saw the inside of the restaurant, but outside is great if you like people watching and the weather is nice. We had a lot of questions, and our server was super helpful and patient, and even went so far as to mark all the vegan options on the menu for me so that I knew exactly what I could order. The food came and it was fine. Nothing to complain about, but nothing overly remarkable on my end. I definitely think this is an atmosphere-based place. By that I mean the food was fine but it's not something I would crave normally -- or if I did, I could go to the grocery store and make myself a little charcuterie board. But it's a really nice spot if you want to hang out with friends and enjoy some drinks and snacks while catching up. It also would be a good spot for date night.

I do recommend making a reservation as they can be pretty slammed on Fridays/weekends. The Srirachi wings had a nice crunch to them while still keeping the chicken juicy inside. It would've been nice to have an even amount of wings to drumsticks though, as I like flats more, but thats just a personal preference. The crabmeat fried rice was amazing, a really good portion of chunks of crabmeat mixed in so each spoonful had some. The duck curry was a "Grandma's special" so a much bigger portion and cost - but reasonable. The duck wasnt dry and had a good flavor throughout, not relying on the curry to give taste. The curry also had a hint of sweetness to it which complements the greasiness of the duck. The papaya salad felt very refreshing - we got it at level one as to not overpower our taste buds with all the other food. I did get some chili pepper on the side to add in later. My one recommendation is having Thai peppers as an option instead of dried chili flakes. I much prefer the taste of fresh Thai pepper to add the extra heat. The mango sticky rice is always a favorite. The mango is soft and ripe, the right amount of sweetness. They also mix pandan in with the sticky rice for a more impactful umami (Im also a big advocate for pandan in desserts).

We had to consistently ask staff when we would be seated and they never gave us an estimated time frame, which resulted in us awkwardly hanging out by the entrance until a table was ready. Our waitress seemed rather annoyed every time she visited our table (which was not very often). The food was solid, although I wouldn't say it blew me away. I had the Ratchada duck which was good and flavorful. We shared some small plates which were also good. Drinks were okay. I think it was worth trying, but I do think this place is a little overhyped. The mediocre service is probably enough to make it not worth the hassle of waiting.

Such a surprisingly pleasant little cafe-style Spanish restaurant! My friend and I came here for…read moredinner for a girls' night and both got the $35 tasting menu. I was expecting a decent amount of food, but this was SO much food for a tasting menu. We couldn't even finish everything. The tasting menu came with 6 different dishes, so it was a really fun way to try a bunch of things. First were the boquerones in olive oil with bread. The anchovies were fresh tasting and pleasantly briny without being overwhelmingly fishy. And they give you SO much olive oil. They also brought us more bread, which was honestly perfect because I was absolutely going to use that bread to soak up every last drop of the olive oil. Then came the garlic and tomato topped baguette. Simple but really good. The garlic and tomato gave the bread a ton of flavor without being too heavy. The fried potatoes were another favorite. Crispy on the outside, soft and fluffy inside, and just really satisfying. Definitely the kind of thing you keep reaching for even after you've told yourself you're full. The jamón croquetas were delicious too. Crispy golden outside with that creamy, savory filling inside and little bits of jamón throughout. Rich, but in a good way. Then we had the shrimp in garlic. This wasn't really a sauce situation, but more of the shrimp sitting in all that garlicky, flavorful oil. The shrimp were tender and the garlic-infused oil was basically begging to be eaten with bread. Which, obviously, we did. For dessert, my friend got the rice pudding and I got the flan. The rice pudding was VERY fall to me. Creamy, comforting, and full of cinnamon, with that warm spiced flavor that makes you want to eat it while wearing a sweater. My flan was perfect. Smooth, creamy, delicate, and not overly sweet. Just the right amount of caramel flavor. Honestly, the amount of food was kind of ridiculous for $35. Six dishes plus dessert, and everything felt fresh and flavorful. There was also a really nice variety, so it never felt like we were just eating six versions of the same thing. The restaurant itself is also PERFECT for pictures. Everything is so thoughtfully decorated, from the walls to all the little details around the space. My friend and I definitely took a bunch of pictures because we couldn't resist. The staff were incredibly kind and accommodating, and service was surprisingly fast. They were also generous with the bread, which I appreciated because, again, I needed that bread for the olive oil situation. And it's BYOB! So if you want alcohol with dinner, you can just bring whatever you actually want instead of being limited to a restaurant drink menu. Overall, this was such a lovely girls' night dinner. Fresh food, lots of flavor, a really nice variety, generous portions, beautiful atmosphere, friendly staff, and a price that felt very reasonable for how much food we got. 10/10 recommend. I honestly wasn't expecting to like it this much, but this was a really enjoyable meal from beginning to end. Definitely coming back.

We have visited Spain and we have come across having some sort of meat so that was kind of disappointing. The service was great atmosphere is very nice and cozy but we definitely did not see the menu before going and so be expected to have more meat variety. .
