I mean what can you say about one of these souvenir/ wannabe surf shops?? I stopped in here on our way out of St. Augustine because I was looking for a specific type of material for a sweatshirt. I have a sweatshirt from Deerfield Beach I love and thought I would be able to find something similar here. As I walked in, it became overwhelming due to the size of the store and the abundance of merchandise. There is so much merchandise that it becomes difficult to walk around without zig zagging. It was not super busy but there were enough people in there to make it difficult to navigate throughout the store. I found the sweatshirt area immediately but it was frustrating because many of the sweatshirts were hung on the walls. There were racks on the floor that also had sweatshirts but they were not all in the same area. While I was searching for what I wanted, I came across a huge, dead palmetto bug in the middle of the floor. It was then that I started speeding up my exploring and headed towards the register. I did find the sweatshirt I wanted but there were limited sizes and items, maybe a total of 8 sweatshirts of that particular kind. Cost almost $40, which I think is overpriced. All Alvin's Island stores are full of mass cheaply made Chinese products that are overpriced for tourist. The stores are large and the sales are always the same, meaning it's the regular price. I don't believe they sell a single locally made item. It's a soulless place. You could plop this store into any beach town and the only thing that would change would be the towns name on the products. read more

Bathroom was absolutely disgusting. There was pee everywhere, no toilet paper, no paper towels, the hand dryers broke, couldn't even sit on the toilet seat so disgusting can't even believe it! and when talked to one of the workers about the restroom they said they can't do anything about it! I found three cutest items there I got a sweatshirt on sale for $28 a t shirt for $14 and a necklace that has my name on it for $3.99 on sale. My cashier was the sweetest person she helped me a lot. The place was clean, and it had a wide variety of items. I struggled to pick what I wanted! My father got a nice salt life shirt that is wonderful looking too! I got the shirt and necklace for $20! I got the hoodie shirt and necklace for $50 I thought that was good! read more

I've never been in a beach speciality store this large. It's huge! Anything you need for the beach and I mean ANYTHING is here. Beach towels, sunglasses, boogie boards, beach chairs, swimsuits and coverups as far the eye can see. There are countless souvenirs to bring home for your friends and family. I noticed lots of tee shirts on sale, but the prices on the regular priced items was pretty outrageous. I bought a small (very small) bag of Jelly Belly jelly beans to get my kid to STFU while I was browsing without looking at the price and it was FOUR dollars. That's just ridiculous in my opinion for a tiny bag of jelly beans. I'd go elsewhere for my beach needs because of the expense of the merchandise here. I don't think it can be beat as far as selection goes, however. read more

Our family always loves to visit Alvin's when we're in Florida, but today might've been the last day we ever go. My daughter needed to use the restroom and was told the restrooms were closed bc of COVID (which would've been fine) except NOT ONE of the staff were even wearing masks (yet all the customers were). **Bathrooms closed for COVID but staff don't believe in wearing masks?!?! The store is a big beach shop with souvenirs and clothing that is made overseas. It is like most of them but does have a huge inventory. Preferring things made locally I will not give it 5 stars. 2 days ago I purchased $80 plus dollars in Alvins Island store 751 on State Rd A1A. I ask if they honored a military discount and they said yes. I was very appreciative. But tonight (Tuesday) we went in to purchase a few more items. But when I ask about the discount a very rude employee named Svetlana said we don't do any discounts. You must have been at another store!!! I knew full well where I was 2 nights ago!! I spoke with the manager as I was as leaving and told him about his rude employee and what she said. He told me she was new and I replied maybe you should train them before they have any interaction with the customers. Huge! Large selection with lots of out of season sales. However anything not on sale seems overpriced. Flops and adult swimsuits for $30-$60+ just seems ridiculous for this type of place. The sale items range from cheap quality at cheap prices, to decent quality at cheap prices - just be prepared to spend the time to dig if you are looking for a deal. All the clique souvenirs you could ever want! And excellent 3 for $10 sales on cheap towels and t-shirts! Free box of taffy with our purchase because we spent over $40. Alvin's is a chain if store that calls itself a tropical department store. They sell all sorts of beach related items along with every imaginable thing with St Augustine printed on it. So if you are on your way to the beach and need sunscreen, and new bathing suit, beach chairs or even a St Augustine lighthouse key chain this is the place to stop. read more

I called Alvin's Island .... Lana found the very last one on the sales floor , set it aside for me and mailed it to me in a fed ex envelope that i had sent her way . They literally closed an hour earlier than the hours say because??? i guess they didn't feel like working?? so went back the next morning, and the woman cashier with the accent was very rude. I had never been to a beach and I had never been to an Alvin's Island, my first experience was kind of embarassing. Yes, they have most anything you need for your beaching experience and I liked the overall atmosphere until I started looking for a tshirt to fit me. I'm not huge but i'm not tiny either, I require a 2x due to my chest size. I was at the table marked 2x and there were only 2 tshirts to choose from, the rest were 3x and 4x. The other option was to go down to an xl and I can't fit the girls in there. I guess what upset me the most is when I asked the elderly lady folding tshirts for assistance, she simply pointed to the sign saying "2x" and said "that's it for you", then she just walked away. I didn't make a scene because I'm not that type of person, I just chose a 2x tshirt I didn't really like, paid for it and left. Please add more options to choose from to the 2x sizing and be more kind to folks that can't shove themselves into tiny clothing. I will not go back. read more

Every time we visit St.Augustine we stop here for all of our souvenirs! They have anything from Keychains to Live Hermit crabs! Some of their prices are reasonable but some are very questionable! They have an extremely small selection of Plus Sized clothing. Overall it's a great store for those who are not Plus sized, those who are it might be a little difficult to find something that will fit! read more

Visited the store in February 2109 to return an item that did not fit. Was met by two young people who said that they could not refund the item because the manager was not present. While leaving the store after telling the clerks that we would complain to the manager at another time was called by the male clerk an extremely rude and obscene name and an indifferent attitude when asked to explain his remarks. We called 911 and informed the responding police officers of the verbal abuse that we had received and our concern about the lack of any responsible adults managing the store. Beware! Deceptive returns policy! Wall states exchanges only on discounted products. I bought four shirts at the price marked on the tags, specifically noted to myself that they weren't on sale so that if my wife wasn't happy with my choices that she would be able to return them. She took them back the very next day in perfect condition, only to be told that the price marked was 50 cents off. Sorry, exchange only. I hope the $35 was worth it to them. We vacation here every year and have for 16 years. We'll never shop at Alvin's Island again. For shame! read more

I was appalled at the unfriendly, rude staff. Whie waiting in line at the checkout, an elderly woman told the cashier she had found a shirt she liked but all they was a small. The cashier asked the woman if she could read & the sizes were printed on the shelves. The woman replied what she was looking at was on a hanger rack. Cashier then saif she was too busy and the woman would have to wait. A manager had to be called to process my return which she did without even acknowledging my presence aside from rudely stating that I needed to give her the same card that the merchandise was charged to. Furthermore, the elderly woman was correct. All we could find on the racks were sizes small and large. Cheap, poorly made apparel. My sister purchased a sweatshirt and, after one washing, two letter fell off! Will NEVER go back. read more
