Like most VA it's horrible. They cancel appointments last minute regularly and then they lie to…read moreyour face and tell you they called you. Even though we can all look on our phones and show them they are wrong they take no responsibility. I'd say understaffed but it wouldn't matter because they have the laziest staff you can imagine so quantity doesn't really help. It's very normal for the bargain bin doctors they have to just not show up to the patients appointments they agreed to and they suffer no consequences. Terrible hospital but again on par for horrible VA care. The entire hospital and system needs to be gutted and redone you can't salvage these people working there because they are the bottom of the barrel. Expect to be treated like garbage not listened to or even given basic care. Thank you for your service, here's the trash bin.

I've heard mixed reviews of Alexian Brothers over the years. I've visited people there but have…read morenever had to use their services. My wife had a bad case of the flu and we wound up at the ER late one night. She was seen almost immediately. The staff was pleasant and attentive. They listened, which I don't always see from hospital staff. The nurses were really wonderful - available and helpful. I can't entirely say the same about the staff doctor - I didn't get his name but he was a young guy who, while I'm sure is a very good doctor, didn't have the best bedside manner. And, when I had a question for him and couldn't get him to come to the room, I walked over to the desk where he was chatting about sports with others. When I tried to interrupt, he told me to wait and he'd see me when he was available. While I understand that everyone deserves a break now and again, being available for your patients is paramount. Clearly, not working and not being able to answer a simple question because you're talking about unimportant things is not what should be expected. Outside of my complaint about the doctor, we were very happy with how they treated us and cared for my wife. Of course, we have not seen the bill yet...

They will mix heart patients with heavy drug users. Security guards watching you. I was placed in a warm room, then remove to a room that felt like I was in a freezer ordered by the head nasty nurse. If you black don't go to Alexian Brothers Hospital. I started with a 140/80 blood pressure and discharge with a 189/90 blood pressure. I had to beg to please take out the needle still in my arm so I could at least put my coat on. Three blankets were not enough. I then realized I was in the room that the ambulance bring patients through double doors heavy with ice. Temperature about 10 degrees outside. I will NEVER, NEVER go back there again!

While the MDs & RNs here are all quite nice, I have a real problem with the fact that it's next to…read moreimpossible to reach someone here on the phone. You have to go thru a main number. The other day I called several times, listened thru the automated message & then each time sat on hold for quite some time before being disconnected! The following day I tried again at 4:30. And the message said they were not taking calls, that the "on call" team was covering. I thought this weird since their closing time is listed at 5:30, 7:30 & 9:30 pm- depending on the day. Finally, the next day I found a number for one of the nurses there & was able to leave a voicemail. I received a call back today. When I relayed the extreme difficulty I had trying to reschedule an appt to this support staff/scheduler I received a chuckle & was matter of factly told it was normal that no one answers the phones after 4:20 pm since that is when they stop taking calls & refer everything to the "on-call" team. This was news to us! Then why bother listing their "open" hours as being a full hour past that time, 2 hours past that time & 5 hours past that time-- depending on the day? So in summary, the telephone triage system is VERY inconvenient to navigate, and usually results in long wait times and disconnects/hang ups. And patients should know that they stop answering the phones for non-emergencies at 4:30- regardless of their posted hours.

I've been a patient here for a month and have been in a few times for ultrasound, PET, CT, and…read moreCT/tomo tests and then today to meet with the amazing Christina Lavin, genetic counselor. Every visit has been truly lovely. Each staff member welcomes each patient, introduces themselves, explains what will happen at each step in the process, and provides little things for comfort like a warm blanket while napping in preparation for a contrast CT. Always calm, smiling, comforting and attentive. All appointments have started exactly on time which helps relieve anxiety as there is no stressful waiting. The facility is spotless and so beautiful. It does not feel like a hospital at all. Nice cafeteria for a snack afterwards. Free parking, too. Shout out especially to Ms. Lavin for a really extraordinary and helpful educational session today. If you should have a need for a medical genetics consult I highly recommend Christina Lavin! And thank you to medical assistant Janice for the quick and painless blood draw today. The whole team here goes above and beyond for their patients. Thank you!!
