As a total foodie and lover of authentic ethnic food, the most difficult problem for me is to realize that every country puts its own spin on and adapts ethnic food to fit local taste. That said while this poke is in no way the original Hawaiian version, it is without a doubt the best poke I have eaten in Tijuana.
My decision is based on several factors, the first of which is their white rice. It is without a doubt the best rice served with poke in the city being much more of the taste and consistency of Asian rice rather than Mexican rice. It was warm and perfect. You have a choice of Tuna, spicy Tuna, Salmon, Shrimp, Tofu for your proteins. The fish is absolutely fresh as it can be. You have many choices of add ons to complete your bowl some are very traditional and others are local favorites but you will have no trouble picking delicious accompaniments.
They have the standard ponzu sauce which is preferred locally to the traditional soy/sesame oil base. They also have a spicy ponzu sauce, a house sauce, a chipotle sauce which was tasty and I had on the side. There was a definite nutty flavor to the sauce which was very enjoyable like a Thai peanut sauce, but it was more complex and flavorful than a peanut sauce. I enjoyed it on the side it was too spicy for me to allow someone else to put it all over my bowl. My only suggestion is that they do make a soy sauce/sesame oil sauce for the traditionalists like me and that could draw in even more customers.
They have only been open a couple of weeks and I can see them easily outgrowing their current space, they have 4-5 bar height tables, and about a 6 foot community type table and one 4 top bar height table outside.
I also included a photo of their great bathroom!
They are right off Revolución directly across the street from Sanborn's restaurant patio.
