    Shrimp basket with battered fries
    Tricia F.

Simple, good food. It was off the beaten path. They said they were known for their buffet and had the best fried chicken around. I got a shrimp basket with battered fries. The fries were amazing and the shrimp tasted very fresh. It was a reasonably priced meal in an area that can be pretty pricey when it comes to seafood. I definitely recommend this place!!

Good food, giant portions, good service, nice friendly country atmosphere, very close to the interstate. What else could you ask for in a local family restaurant? We highly recommend Altman's!

Our group eats here often. This is a very family and community friendly place. The buffet is always well stocked and Thursday is pork chops done in different ways. The ambiance is super casual and if you don't do the buffet, the items on the menu are just as good. Perfect place for large groups but get there early for lunch because parking will be scarce. And easy 5 stars from someone who eats here almost daily.

Now THATS a burger. Wonderful and polite staff as well as enjoyable food in a comfortable atmosphere.

Parking lot of vehicles told us we were on to something before we entered the door.

The salad bar is the hidden gem on the menu. Fresh and simple, and you can add shrimp or chicken for a less than $10 meal.

When we arrived, we were asked if we were OK if the service was a bit slow that night. Since we drove a bit out of the way from Brunswick we were not leaving, but it gave us extra quality family time with the daughter who was visiting. After ordering the wife and daughter went outside to take in the view of the water and look around. Maybe we were just having a great time, or were prepared to wait forever, but once the food came out, we all agreed it wasn't as long as we thought it would be. I ordered the whole fired flounder platter with Oysters,h ush puppies and fried Okra. Everything was perfectly cooked. And as you can see from the pictures I provide the flounder itself was stunning. I also ordered onion rings which were fresh, large and incredible. The Daughter ordered the Founder dinner, and again, just a absolute beautiful cooked piece of fish. The wife order the Grouper Plate, which was probably the least favorite dish of the 3 as she got it blackened, and it was not as well prepared as the other dishes. Overall a very successful dinner night out

Destiny was our server and she handled everything like a pro, even with a very difficult table next to us. You could tell she was hustling and still kept a great attitude...service definitely stood out. Food-wise, we ordered a little bit of everything: alligator bites, a dozen oysters, and the whole flounder with mac & cheese and collard greens. The alligator bites were easily my favorite--crispy, flavorful, and not chewy at all. The collard greens were also a standout, seasoned just right and full of flavor. The oysters (from Virginia) were fresh and hit the spot. The flounder itself was cooked well, but it could've used a bit more seasoning to really bring it home. Same with the mac & cheese...just a little bland compared to everything else on the table. I also had a prosecco, which paired perfectly with the seafood and kept things feeling light and fun. Overall, great atmosphere, strong service, and a few standout dishes. I'd definitely come back...just know what to order.

1 Star I had one of…read morethe worst restaurant experiences I've ever had here. I was next door picking up a load in my semi truck, so I called ahead and ordered fish tacos. I was told it would be about 25 minutes, which was perfectly fine because my pickup was taking around 40 minutes anyway. When I walked into the restaurant, I wasn't acknowledged by anyone. I stood there for a long time and had to ask multiple employees about my order because nobody seemed interested in helping me. The owner/manager never once spoke to me or asked what I needed. After waiting another 20 minutes, the cashier finally came over so I could pay for my food. Then I had to wait another 30 minutes before the food finally came out. After all that waiting, the fish tacos were cold. I asked for a refund, and unfortunately that became another ordeal. The owner didn't know how to process the refund through the register, and after waiting yet another 25 minutes, I finally told them to just give me cash so I could leave. From start to finish, this experience was a complete mess. Poor communication, no sense of urgency, no customer service, and cold food after an extremely long wait. I understand restaurants get busy, but completely ignoring customers and serving cold food after well over an hour is unacceptable. I don't usually leave negative reviews, but I can't recommend this place based on my experience.

Stellar cocktails, friendly service, great views, modern design aesthetic, and incredible food. My only gripe is that they do not take reservations, though even on a Friday night, I've been able to get seated within 20-30 minutes, and you can always grab a drink from the bar and hang out on the lawn while you wait. This most recent visit, I started with the seafood chowder, one of my favorite soups on the island. Creamy, hearty, with plenty of fish, shrimp, crab, and potatoes. Shared a crabcake with my girlfriend--another solid choice, with plenty of crab, not too heavy on the filling, and with a lovely remoulade. For mains, we both had the grilled redfish, a baked potato for me, and mixed veggies for her. Perfectly cooked pieces of fish with a nice crust on the outside while still being moist and tender. Dessert this time was the chocolate pie, which was quite nice, not being too heavy nor excessively sweet. Did I mention the cocktails? I'm a big fan of the smokey mango Fiddlerita (a mezcal take on the classic marg), and the saladito a close second (again, mezcal, but with a little honey and cayenne). The girlfriend enjoys the basil smash (hold the simple syrup, please). Previously, we've tried the artichoke dip, which is also fantastic, shrimp and grits (solid, but Reid's does it better), blackened tripletail over creamy leek sauce (a special, and special indeed), and the key lime pie (excellent). You really can't go wrong here.

Chef Jerome is a piece of SE Georgia history and makes some fantastic food. From the moment we pulled up to the restaurant, Chef Jerome came out and greeted us with hugs and assurances that he was going to take good care of us. The building is eclectic, quirky, rustic, and several more adjectives - but never off-putting. It is comfortable.... When you walk in, you really get a feel for the history of this place - particularly from the tens of thousands of photos that decorate the walls (virtually all of them) throughout the restaurant. There are pictures of locals, travelers and even several celebrities that have feasted at the Diner. Ben Afflect's picture is featured all over the restaurant as he frequents this place whenever he is in town (he even has his own autographed chair hanging on the wall). We were seated in the VIP room and presented with a menu with several good southern dishes from deviled crab, oysters, scallops and of course shrimp to ribs, porkchops, steaks and burgers. They are known for their Wheelchair Platter - which serves 2, 3, or 4 people. This is a collection of things that the Chef has selected for you including fried shrimp, fish, hushpuppies, pork chops, Mac 'n cheese, and other treats. Comes with slaw and potato salad (both fantastic), We ordered the platter for 2 - and it did not disappoint. We also got the sweetpotato logs with a cinnamon dipping sauce (wow!). First - those were some of the best hushpuppies I've ever eaten. Crispy on the outside but fluffy with bits of corn on the inside. yum. Everything else was cooked to perfection. Once we had eaten, Chef Jerome came out and took some pictures (for the wall of course) and had us promising (truthfully) to return soon. This place is a little out of the way. It's down a dirt road and looks a little rustic - but you will be very pleasantly surprised once you go in and let Chef Jerome take care of you. A Definite recommendation! Don't miss this treasure!
