2 Stars = "Meh, I've experienced better" and that is exactly on point with this place. Altmans is located at the corner - it's not hard to find especially with the adjacent and sparkly Altmans Surfaces addition that is currently in progress (the front is attractive; the back is still being made). We stepped into the established store on the left. The front is not much bigger than a no-name cell phone store. The back is really cramped with fixtures. There's a small corridor that connects to Altmans Surfaces next door but you wouldn't know it at this time because it's filled with construction material. Aside from a couple of show piece tubs out in the front, the store is not what you'd expect from a place in Beverly Hills, although it is located in the less swanky part of the city. They packed every square inch with products - toilets and tubs on the ground, fixtures on the walls. There are interesting brands but no prices anywhere. In the back there is one desk with a sales guy and a customer across from him. Both weren't saying much to each other. At first I thought they were two employees or friends chilling, but then I noticed the customer's credit card information was being typed into a computer. We walked by and decided to walk out next door to check out the prettier counterpart and come back in a few minutes. Walked into Altmans Surfaces - nice looking tiles but go next door to Westside Tiles. They also had sample showers etc, no prices, fine. A guy greeted us and we told him our story. Instead of giving us some information that we were looking for, he suggested that he come over and measure everything and then provide us with options. There was one unit in the store that I was interested in learning more about but something much more basic, but he didn't offer any brochures or websites for me to do research on. I'm all about doing my own homework so I wasn't too thrilled thus far about the possibility that my options here were going to be way out of range and practicality. We were led back to the original Altmans and to the first sales guy coming out of the employee restroom. He had a thick tongue and it was a bit difficult to understand. I told him about the homework I already did but wanted some help in getting additional information. He tinkered with some price book at his feet, googled something on Yahoo and showed me the address of a dealer. I went home and looked at the website and that was not at all what I was asking for. As we were walking out, he told me to let the dealer know that he referred us. If I were rich, I'd go to the fancier stores up in West Hollywood that provide better displays with employees with better people skills. But I'm not rich, and I thought the sales guy at the Bathroom Store in Torrance was significantly more helpful in giving me tips and providing me with brochures in the 15-20 minutes I spent there. The store there was even smaller than Altman's, but I felt more productive walking out their doors with something to go on. The fact that there are no prices anywhere lead me to believe that some people will get more favorable prices and others will get gouged for the same item, and I just don't want to play this game. Perhaps this place is for people in the industry who know what they need and just need the supplier. For common folk, look elsewhere...even the Kohler Signature Store in Culver City is $$$$ as heck but at least prices are prominently displayed so you know you're going to be treated fairly. I had a Dornbrach faucet handle over 15 years old that needed to be replaced, and he immediatlly reach out to the company in Germany for me, and they are shipping me a new one!! Wow. Eli was beyond helpful in getting us the best quality faucet for a large farm sink in our kitchen. It was so difficult to find something unique yet practical for our remodel. Located in close proximity to where I live and in a great little part of Robertson, Altman's provides both great quality product and 5 star service. My purchase went through smoothly and the subsequent installation ended up being exactly what I wanted. We have known the Rom family at Altman's in Beverly Hills for the past 30 years. Initially we dealt with Howard Rom at Altmans when our master bath suite / his&hers master closet was designed & built by a well know south Pasadena female Architect.Recently after a water-leak, it was determined that the entire master bath would have to be gutted and re-built. There was "no decision" where we would go to purchase all of the new fixtures, our "only option" was ALTMAN'S in Beverly Hills. . . This time around we had the wonderful opportunity of dealing with Eli Rom, in addition to his Dad Howard! Eli was "Absolutely Phenomenal" to deal with! I bought a bathroom vanity which was on display. When they delivered the vanity I noticed it was damaged. Also, when we opened the packaging our plumber noticed it came with the wrong parts in order to hook up the sink and faucet to the bathroom's piping. I called Altman and informed them about the wrong connecting parts. So they told me to come pick up the correct parts which they ended up giving me again the wrong parts. The 3rd time I came back they said they will order the correct parts that should have came with my vanity from the manufacturer. The parts they order ended up being the wrong parts AGAIN. I then had my plumber go and find the right parts which he finally did. I had to pay my plumber 4 times to come back to my house just to find out they the parts they kept giving me were wrong which cost me a lot. They told me that they would reimburse me for the mistake they made but its been 9 months and they just keep ignore my calls. read more
