Fantastic! First, the view of the city is amazing --gorgeous esp at sunset. Service was excellent and the food and wine were delicious. Had the pork chop and it was heavenly. The popcorn was magic. Definitely add to list when in Pittsburgh. Can't wait to go back.

All of the food and service was great!!! The fried pierogies were the best I've ever had, unfortunately I don't have a picture.

To comment on the food, I feel would be to discount the view. To comment on the view, would discount the environment and stellar service. It is literally impossible to go wrong here. Everything from the menu, to the house drinks, to the timing and food quality is just off the charts! The reverse psychology drink is velvety, and not sweet, but no alcohol burn. From there, the meatballs, the crab toast, and then a well crafted crust on an expertly cooked ribeye. It literally doesn't get better for a night. Staff and timing were pleasant and impeccable. You want an insane view while you have a fantastic meal? Go here. Eat. Gawk. Smile!

We were in town to celebrate my husbands birthday! He picked this restaurant and it did not disappoint! It felt high class. The staff were friendly and went above and beyond. The food was amazing. They serve popcorn as a pre appetizer. Then rolls. Then even sent us home with small desserts after we had our main desserts. 10/10. Couldn't say enough about this place! We came after dark and could see all the lights of downtown Pittsburgh. We just wish we could've had a window seat. But sadly they don't take requests for that. It was still a nice view from our seat though. They did offer the group next to us to eat their dessert next to the window though! Very nice of them!

I had a fantastic experience at this amazing restaurant--maybe Pittsburgh's finest--but a few things left me unsettled that I want to just warn diners about. First, the service was impeccable. Our waitress took exceptional care of my friends and me and made our celebration so special. She was funny, caring, and extremely attentive. The definition of perfect service! Our initial struggle came when we arrived. For our reservation and the table wasn't ready. Truly no worries, we were happy to walk to the overlook and admire the city. I wish we had been offered a place to sit at the bar or something--we did have to wait over 20 minutes. Again, a minor issue, but one I wish had been handled differently. The food had a few quality issues that are not acceptable for a restaurant at this price point. Some items were absolute smashed (the intro popcorn, the crab toast, and the chocolate dessert were massive standouts). Some things critically missed the mark. The meatball special came cold with congealed cheese inside. The lamb was tough, fatty, and poorly executed overall. The halibut special was $70 and came with a cold and broken sauce. Some of the sides also missed the mark. For a fine dining establishment, these issues did negatively impact the experience pretty significantly--especially for a meal that came in over $500. Would I come back here? Absolutely. Is it one of the best restaurants in Pittsburgh? For sure. But is it worth the price point? Probably not. With a few fixes, I would definitely give five stars.

I think this is my favorite fancy restaurant in Pittsburgh! I like how they give you a little snack before your meal. It used to be an olive thing, and most recently it's popcorn. There's a nice view, and you can dress up to dine here. The dessert is beautiful (pictured).

Altius stays as one of the best restaurants in Pittsburgh. The ambiance and service are top notch always, my favorite thing on the menu is the crab toast. I will say that their menu is more limited, and you have to be in the mood for the type of food that is on that smaller menu.

Need to know: outside is truly unassuming it's next to the ww1monument after the gate and lift if you're facing the monument and lift it's to the left. Parking is on the street or parking lot across the street for $12. I can't recommend this place enough. The service was incredible and they made each table feel truly catered to. SHOUT OUT TO ANGIE!!!! Our server was just the absolute best. She went over everything thoroughly and was very attentive. The manager came and checked on each table throughout the night and nothing took too long to come out of the kitchen. Throughout the dinner the kitchen gave little food gifts to enjoy which made us feel special haha. The food was SPECTACULAR! The chef truly knows what she is doing and the rich flavor was present in EVERYTHING that came out. The atmosphere was elevated and enjoyable. They made great choices with regards to lighting, and maximizing the windows and their effect! The whole dinner was truly a fine dining EXPERIENCE. Every person I saw walking out had a big smile on their faces. Everyone enjoyed themselves and I don't think one person felt that they gave more than they received here. The price is worth it, trust me. It was the absolute highlight to our trip. We ordered: the spicy crab bisque, Australian lamb rack with a side of chimi churri, filet mignon with a side of crab, nutty by nature, chai icecream, and banana dessert. For drinks we ordered: summer sangria, the non alcoholic fresh-start, and rose prosecco. After dinner drinks we ordered espresso and decaf cappuccino. Everything was spectacular! Only constructive criticisms: the biscotti served with our cappuccino/espresso wasn't so great/enjoyable. The spicy bisque was a little too spicy for me but the flavors otherwise were incredible! Personal opinion: I found the graffiti art to be misplaced it didn't flow with the rest of the ambiance or decor...Though still a nice piece.

I came by for dinner with my family recently. They have a dress code for "business casual", but it's never really clear what that means nowadays, so when in doubt -- maybe you can call them to ask? Judging by our attire and what some other parties were wearing, it seems reasonably flexible. Overall, the food was not bad, but not super good either. We tried a few of their appetisers - the chilled oysters and some meatballs (one of the specials of the day). The meatballs were a little bland but I liked the cheesy fillings they had. Also, we ordered the caesar salad, which was a bit disappointing. The leaves were soggy and didn't have much flavour to them. I had the filet mignon as my main course. The steak was very tender and juicy, but definitely much saltier than I expected. It was a bit too heavy to enjoy by the end of the dish. The sides of purple mashed potatoes and carrots were decent (and I think complemented the steak nicely). Other than that, we tried the duck breast, and two of their daily specials - a ribeye dish and a seafood platter. For dessert we tried the Reaching Green, which was interesting in the juxtaposition of really disparate ingredients like sponge cake, pear slices, and sesame brittle. The presentation was stellar, I'll give it that. But the overall flavour profile came across as disjointed and unorganised. Generally everything was fine-ish?, but nothing in particular stood out, and it just didn't seem like the high price point here was merited. I think you're largely paying for the admittedly quite amazing view from the restaurant. The service was lovely nonetheless -- our server was friendly and helpful with suggestions for food and drink, and the casually elegant interior was a nice environment to dine in. However, I fear that I wasn't too impressed with the food itself and probably wouldn't opt to come back.

Altius is an excellent fine dining experience in Pittsburgh. Wonderful service, delicious food, and an amazing view. I have come here for dinner several times and it was excellent. It is in the more expensive side, but they do give you a great experience. In terms of recommendations, I find their steaks to be better than their fish dishes.

Date of visit: 10/11/2025 @ 7:30pm Bottom line up front: Amazing experience in terms of service (i.e., Giovanni), ambience, and food Made a last-minute decision to ride up the Duquesne Incline with my wife and son on this Saturday afternoon over Parents' Weekend at Duquesne University. There was also a Steeler's game the following day so we had no expectations to be seated without reservations. We were greeted immediately upon entering and politely informed that the first table would not be available until 9:45pm, but we were welcome to sit at the bar with access to the full dinner menu. We were lucky enough to find three open seats at one of the bar tables - each of which sits six adults comfortably. Our party was seated within 60 seconds of walking in the door and our waiter, Giovanni, greeted us mere seconds later. Giovanni absolutely made our experience. This is not meant to imply the food was anything less than amazing. The food was out of this world, but the level of service provided by Giovanni put this place over the top. Giovanni was personable, charismatic, and kind. He recommended several dishes for my wife to consider demonstrating a comprehensive knowledge of the menu and the chef's strengths. Our water glasses were never empty. We never had to wait to order another drink or get his attention. And we never felt as if he was hovering over or pestering us. The service was up there with the best we have ever experienced - no exaggeration. We will always remember our dinner at Altius because of Giovanni. As for the food... The complimentary popcorn was addictive with the perfect blend of pepper flavor. We had Giovanni cut us off after destroying four baskets/servings with drinks and appetizers. My only regret is forgetting to ask Giovanni the specific name of the spice/pepper mix they use to make it. The meatball appetizer was delicious. We ordered it based on Giovanni's recommendation. I ordered the filet prepared medium rare. It was cooked perfectly. Giovanni suggested that I substitute something else in place of the truffled purple potato puree when he heard my wife mention that I do not like the taste of truffles. No fuss, push back, or hesitation which, as someone who is a very picky eater, was greatly appreciated. I chose the pommes frites which were superior. They were crunchy, but soft with the perfect amount of salt and flavor. Best I ever had. It was a busy weekend with tons of walking so my memory of what other foods/drinks we had that evening is incomplete. I am certain the drinks (Old Fashioned or Boulevardier) were mixed perfectly with generous pours, and that my wife and son thoroughly enjoyed their choices. And we all appreciated the spectacular view provided by the immense, clear windows looking out over the city - something I was looking forward to when we selected Altius as our destination. The view, by the way, is amazing from almost every table in the place. We loved this place and will definitely return, but this time we will plan ahead and make reservations. We also plan on requesting to be seated in Giovanni's section.

Filet Mignon - was disappointing. Such a letdown.

Overall was disappointed. Hype without substance. Of course the Pittsburgh skyline view is spectacular; with the Duquesne Incline as an extra treat. The service was good but at this price point the waiter should not need to be reminded to bring things. He also had us questioning if he knew we were still there he'd disappear for so long. The restaurant tries way too hard to be upscale with attempts to be showy and memorable albeit failed. In their efforts to be fancy, they try serving dishes simultaneously but it was clunky and each course came out at a glacial pace. Moreover, it was haphazard as to what was worth the wait. Meatball appetizer was exceptional; yet the filet mignon was cooked incorrectly, cold and wasn't melt in your mouth delicious. The scallops were awesome yet everything else wasn't worth coming back for. Truly let down by the experience and would never consider returning. Just visit the Incline or Mt Lebanon vistas to appreciate view. There are other establishments up here that will always deliver delicious food, as well as, the view. Recommend Valet ($9) or Uber.

I've been here several times and have always been satisfied, but my most recent experience was transcendent. Food in terms of quality and portions were better than I ever remember. Strong cocktail program. And a huge shout out to our waiter, Tom, who was perfectly attentive, knowledgeable and fun!

This is the vanilla ice cream it tastes like heaven.

Is this a specific dress code?

Their website says that business-casual clothing is required.

Do they have walk up bar seating?

    Yes.

Are kids under 3 welcomed? We're going with a 3 year old and a 1 year old

I don't think they could turn you away... but it really isn't the kind of place to take babies and toddlers.

Does this restaurant have a dress code for patrons? i.e., do I need to wear a sports coat or shirt and tie?

Don't wear shorts. I wore a polo and dress shorts on a 100 degree day and was turned away even with a reservation.

What was already a stressful situation was exacerbated by HIP's incompetent and unsympathetic actions, including (but not limited to): - delayed communication of the venue's inability to host the wedding - being unresponsive to requests to finalize details of the venue transition (yet still having time to post videos to social media about the situation) - trying to charge ridiculous prices for minimal venue involvement ($2,500 just to use the venue as a hotel and to take pictures there), - and claiming the rented tables were damaged when they were returned (even though they were already damaged when provided in the first place) just to be able to keep the $500 deposit We're so thrilled that the wedding turned out well despite the frustration of having to deal with HIP, but their behavior and attitude were completely unprofessional and, quite frankly, rude.
