Smoked salmon with lemon confit and house pickled onion
    Simon C.

Most of the low-rated reviews were due to complaints about high price and/or slow service. For God's sake, you are in a remote and Canadian version of a US national park here where both raw ingredients and staff number and experiences are in short supply. Despite the above-mentioned limitations, the lodge and this restaurant are trying to deliver above average choices. We especially liked the tender Alberta lamb and the crispy Arctic char. The garlic and parsley induced butter that came with the bread was also unique and tasty. For breakfast, smoked salmon with lemon confit and house pickled onion brought zest to the morning before the walk on the Althabasca Icefield. In addition, the views from the dining room are just awesome. The 5th star goes to our server, Ashley. She brought her pleasantries at 8:30 pm at night and at 8:30 am the next morning.

We were so hungry When we visited the icefield glaciers In alberta earlier this month...we lot track of time and forgot that there was no restaurants for the next hr of driving. Since it was dinner time and we were still at the disembarkation station...we decided to try the only place that was open, and this was the altitude restaurant that was connected to the icefields park. One great thing about this place was dinner with a view! We were treated to not only a spectacular view but an excellent dinner as well. The food served here can easily rival any fine dining restaurant in vancouver. Each one carefully made and presented well. The best dish of the night was the salmon. The skin was crispy and charred perfectly and the meat was juicy and moist. The sauce accompaniment was perfect. The chicken breast with the creamy potato croquettes that came with the poultry was so good. Crunchy with a creamy Center filling. Outside it was encrusted well. The chicken was cooked to perfect temp, making the meat succulent. The AAA alberta beef pappardelle was just excellent. The sauce was so creamy and the beef so tender. It definitely highlighted the quality of alberta beef. Lastly, even the kids burger was made so well. My son loved it. Fries were so good. Double fried to perfection. I took 1 star away because the establishment demanded 18% grats for a table of 6 right away before even service began. Should've been ok if they actually worked for it. But flagging a server down for ketchup or even a refill of our water glasses was so hard that i had to grab the water jars myself as they were within reach. We were not happy with the service but satisfied with the food and ambiance. Where else can you dine and enjoy fabulous food while enjoying the majestic views of the athabasca glacier. Pricewise, reasonable for fine dining food. Cheers! Happy eating!

The view of this restaurant is definitely the best part of your experience here. The food is average, nothing special or super flavorful, and very overpriced. I ordered the chicken entree for $38 and received barely half a chicken breast, bone in it still so the meat amount was less. My friend even bit down on a small bone that was left in his. It was tender, but still bland despite the gravy sauce poured on top. The dish also comes with rainbow carrots, mushrooms and potatoes. I asked for extra potatoes instead of mushrooms, but I'm not even sure they gave me more. The veggies are cut in half and small portions. We definitely all left the restaurant still hungry, not willing to pay more for average food.

While staying at the Glacier View Lodge this is really your only option for breakfast and dinner as your in the middle of nowhere. The food for dinner is fine but not for the amount of money you have to spend, $40.00 for a piece of chuck roast. I guess it's better then going hungry. Breakfast is a buffet, you better get here before 9:00 even though the website says 9:30, the host want let you in after 9:00 a.m The staff is exceptionally and is the shining light for this restaurant.

We had a most delicious dinner and wine at Altitude. The immediately brought fresh bread with Maple butter. I had the Truffled Cream of Mushroom Soup. The best mushroom soup ever! My husband had the Artisanal Greens and Noble Meadows Goat's Cheese, which was lovely. Then, we shared the Beef Stroganoff. I'm glad that we shared, because it was quite large. The view was fantastic. And Shelby's service was exemplary! We highly recommend Altitude.

The best thing in this place is the view. Overpriced, yet the food and service is just terrible. Too bad I had to give one star.

Eggs were soon crispy and we asked for the egg to be well-done and it was perfect. Bread was good. Cucumbers were a bit oily for me. Latte was good. Staff were friendly and provided dine-in service. Cheesecake was 10/10 highly recommend. Berry compote with it was such a bonus. Brownie was also 9.5/10, dried raspberry on-top looked pretty.

We had to wait for about 15 minutes before being seated, and we were placed outdoors. But I have to say, sitting outside at this time was almost sunburn-inducing, so we quickly ate and left. We ordered the Turkish egg & halloumi. Since I'm lactose intolerant, the staff kindly replaced the halloumi with avocado. I loved this dish! The drizzle of spicy oil added a unique flavor to the whole dish, and I never thought it would pair so well. It was delicious! However, the only downside to this place is the high number of customers. The servers might be overwhelmed, resulting in long wait times for ordering and paying the bill.

The people: a mother and her son, tired from the day's (short) hike in the snow. The atmosphere at the street: hushed voices, some bit of hustle and bustle as strangers rush to fill some void. Hunger. There were more steps from the sidewalk up to the restaurant, a seeming offense to legs tired from pushing against the snow earlier in the day. The local game and seafood, both in varying forms, were the tempters. We got our table, and we sat down. Drinks first - CRFT Blonde Ale was a winner - and a lovely herbed bread and butter started us off. Menu choice this night focused on the game dishes. Some calamari to start too, though our hunger made a short life of that starter at our table. And then we got our mains. Well-prepared, unpretentious, flavorful, and - for us - just the right proportions. My bison medallions - ordered rare - were prepared just perfectly, with (as I told my son) the only instance of spaghetti squash that I think I have ever liked (alongside other well-prepared veggies as well). His mixed game burger didn't stand a chance. He even ate the mushrooms, a sure HT. Our experience here was so wonderful, centered, warm - It helped that our server was equally so, and you can see how much she connects with the customers as one would with guests in a home. We liked our meal so much we came back again the next night for more. And the second night did not lose any luster off the first. Next time we are in the area, we are probably going to go nowhere but here. While our travels took us far, we felt right at home here.

I started with their French Onion Soup. For this course I do think the restaurant failed. The bread and melted cheese was a slice of bread that sat on top of the soup bowl, like the two parts were cooked separately. To me this was oddly different and not in a good way. The soup itself was a little bland, not salty or overly salty, which is also different than most. For my entree I tried the Game Meat Burger and fries. Meat was lean and more chewy than ground beef. It was interesting to try. I did ask first and learned the meat was ranch raised animals, not wild. Otherwise I would not have tried it. Service was very good to start. When they got busy it was hard to get someone's attention to pay. The restaurant is upstairs, I don't know if there is any other way to get up. We had very nice seats with windows looking across the trains to the mountains. Very nice.

I have to admit I may of groaned a bit climbing the flight of stairs up to the restaurant after a verticle climb up a mountain earlier, however the trek up was worth it. We were seated right away, and greated by Maddy soon after although wern't ready to place our drink orders quite yet. After a bit we had moved onto the menu choices where Maddy hadnt come back and was having a casual chat for a while with the bar tender so I walked over and asked to place our drink orders. Since they wern't busy and we were thirsty we were both a tad annoyed as we felt a little forgotten. I ordered the Cabernet and my guy the Rhino Hazy IPA draft. My wine was delishious although pricey for an 8oz glass. We both agreed the IPA was a bit heavy on the citrus notes so my guy opted for the The Apex Predator Ale on the next round which was much better. The food came out quickly where I had the Truffle Tortellini with cajun shrimp with Maddy's suggestion and it was SO good! My guy had the Alfredo with chicken which to both of us was a bit bland. After a while of the food being dropped off Maddy came around where we asked for some salt and pepper and parmesan which did help the alfredo dish. I ordered a second glass of 5oz wine, less than the already costly 8oz pour but our server brought the 8oz pour. She apologized when I told her was pretty sure I ordered the 5oz but told her I would just keep it. This place has good food, a nice kind of trendy atmosphere which is updated and stylish, with a good menu. Our service wasn't top notch but have had way worse and we thought Maddy was nice at least. The food and drinks are pricey but would definitely return.
