This felt like a ski chalet with a Starbucks, a cafeteria, restaurant, massive amount of ladies rooms, large gift shop and a movie about the ice fields. Time tickets can be purchased here to go out on the ice fields, they're different options available. When we came at 9:00 AM the chalet was empty, when we left at 12:30 there were lines out the door. Surprisingly good given the remote location; prices are a bit elevated, but really not much by American standards. We got a poutine, cream of mushroom soup, chicken burger, and Madras chicken. In the poutine, the fries were crisp, the gravy was rich and not too salty, and the cheese curds were nice and melted. The soup and burger were pretty standard fare. This is in reference to the Chalet cafeteria inside the Columbia Icefield Discovery Centre (or the Icefield Information Centre and Glacier Gallery) for Jasper National Park. This review is for when the center opens back up again. Basically, the center has two dining options for visitors; both on the second floor, the entrances facing each other, with large windows and even outdoor seating to look out towards the Athabasca Glacier. One is Altitude, an actual restaurant with more specific opening hours for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I think it may also be restricted to the guests staying in the Glacier View Lodge? The Chalet is more of a general cafeteria opened to everyone with more general opening hours. It's very large with the kind of large tables and booths suited for large groups of people to relax in for a casual meal. There were a lot of people in line that day, but it was big enough that people were all spread out with relative privacy inside, and most were outside to look at the glacier. My dad even took a nap lol. They have boxed sandwiches and meals, cookies, drinks, and a cafeteria line where you can get hot food before lining up at one of the cash registers. Very much a self-service setup. The menu is pretty straightforward, though I do appreciate the sheer variety of sandwiches. Basically, good picnic food with a few hot dishes for those feeling the cold. Most importantly, I think, is that they had coffee. Decent place to rest and lounge. Or in our case, wait for our bus or other people to finish shopping. My favorite thing was the Salty Sweet Butterscotch Walnut Cookies. X3 read more
