Great New Mexican restaurant in Monmouth! Tacos are amazing, especially carnitas! You can get regular size with guacamole or the smaller, street taco size. Tamales are great too. Our tamal de res was smothered in enchilada sauce and sour cream. They also have a small salsa bar and bring warm chips and fresh salsa to your table. It's a small, intimate place but we highly recommend! read more

Holy carnitas, Batman! The carnitas here are super fresh. The guacamole is excellent. Rice is super fresh and special. The salsas, especially the orange chile de arbol...yum! I've travelled all over Mexico and can proudly attest that Altita's in Monmouth is the bomb-diggity!!!!! read more

The food is excellent. Fresh as others have commented. Small converted house so only 3 tables for indoor dining but they also have a drive up option. The staff is incredibly polite and attentive. Is all prepared fresh. Prices very reasonable. Tacos are amazing and asada tender and moist. So good we are going back again tonight to feed our daughter & family. I ordered a chili relleno burrito at the drive through as I drove home. I still had a 1 hour drive ahead so about 1/2 way home, I stopped at a park to eat it. The first bite had something in it that felt like a stick in my mouth. I took it out of my mouth and was mystified as to what it was. It clearly wasn't food. As I cleaned the beans and cheese off of it I found that it was the end of a q-tip cotton swab. Lord only knows how that got into the burrito. On top of that, the burrito was really greasy. I threw it away and drove home absolutely disgusted. I'm never going to stop there again. read more

1st experience: phoned them to make sure they were open and the man answered "hello." No business name, so it threw me off. I went there anyway and ordered the chorizo con huevos plate. Chorizo & eggs were dry and bland. It came with on HUGE (and I mean huge) flour tortilla, which was also just meh. Not fresh and not nasty, just .eh. The woman who helped me at the counter was LOVELY...very gracious, responsive, and overall attentive. I will try Altitas one more time, as I can't rule it out based on one plate of chorizo con huevos! read more

Hands down best breakfast burritos and hot sauces ever made, especially their machaca burrito and super spicy sauce. The owners are extremely nice and keep things very clean and stocked inside as well. Only $7.50 for a burrito so good angels sing with every bite too. Worth every penny ten times over. read more

Been twice so far. Had a Machaca burrito and a Carne Asada burrito. Both were amazing! Both meats were incredibly juicy. The carne asada specifically was outstanding, and wasn't at all grisly like some other places I've been. Definitely a wonderful addition to the already great Mexican food scene here in Monmouth/Independence. read more
