Very typical PNW Mexican place. The same chips and salsa (which were great), same menu, same rice and refried beans. I had a burrito and my wife had a chimichanga. My burrito was very bland, which is typical for this kind of place. The bigger issue was the service or lack thereof. Our waitress maybe said 5 words to us the whole time. No greeting, no comment when we ordered. She "checked on us" once, which was just a drive-by "how is everything?" and was gone before we could even respond good or bad. No offer to refill water or chips and salsa or get us a different drink at any point. Then she just disappeared. When we were done we just sat there and sat there waiting for her to show back up so we could pay and get the hell out of there. Finally I saw her in the bar and walked over to ask for a box and the check. She looked at me like that had never occurred to her. There was also a super bratty obnoxious kid running around but I won't count that against them, since it's not really their fault I guess. Nice little place with great service. Took my kids and grandkids here for lunch. The salsa was about as boring as it gets but asking for a hotter salsa was a better choice. My Chimichanga was a bit on the small size but had nice flavor as did the beans and rice. The rest of the family ordered various items and for the most part, enjoyed their meals. The food overall is fine but nothing special. I would try them again and maybe they can blow my mind, but I doubt it. They just didn't get over that hump. read more

Economical for food and draft beer, interior is laid out so booth diners have a lot of privacy. Been there a long time, although I don't know if it's the same owner as 30 years ago. Juana is a pleasant hostess. Warm, crisp chips come out with refried beans and a pico de gallo which is not high-solids but has perfect pepper heat and complex flavors. My last visit, after I got a few bites into my enchiladas, I realized they were room temperature, and a few spoonfuls of the chili verde sauce had an off flavor like it was going over. I waited 24 hours before writing this review to see if there would be gastrointestinal consequences. There were none, but I don't like being placed in such a position. I'm sort of OK with bland Americanized Mexican food, which this is, but food safety is paramount. I'm in the neighborhood often, and may update my review after another visit, but there's a lot of competition in Independence. There's a sports bar in a small adjacent room and I don't know what noise levels would be like during happy hours, 2-6. But if that's your thing, it's an intimate nook. read more

The restaurant has beautiful tile work inside, unfortunately that is the only thing good about this place. My wife ordered pork Verde enchiladas, the sauce was so salty, she ended up having to scrap the pork out of the tortilla. I ordered the Ranchero enchiladas., with ground beef. The beef was luke warm, and the sauce tasted like canned tomatoe soup. The rice was mushy and had no flavor, refried beans were okay. Server asked if there was something wrong with my meal, I said yes, that it wasn't good. She did offer to bring me something else, I declined. I felt if the beans and rice are this bad, I don't want anything else. We were charged for both meals, we left a twenty percent tip. We will never go back. Very disappointed. read more

This is our favorite Mexican by far. We go here a couple times a month and prefer to sit in the bar. The bartender consistently makes great drinks and the salsa and chips are always fresh! Today I couldn't believe what I was served! This was the most digusting street taco's I have ever been served ! The corn shells were not hand made had turned to complete mush! You could not pick them up to eat them ! All the filing fell through the shells onto the taco tray! All that was in the taco was unseasoned shredded pork with onion ,cilantro ! No cheese, no Pico De Giao, no lettuce ,no guacamole ! It was terrible food! We will never return to this establishment ever again ! Don't waste your money here ! read more

I enjoy the very very inexpensive lunch menu items..I get the tostada that is pictured and I just love the burrito asada! That shredded beef tostada at lunch is only $4.25 !! Service is good, clean and nicely decorated interior with friendly staff. read more

My entire time at Western, I HATED Monmouth. But FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, the last few weeks, I've had a craving for the manteca-licious grub at Los Dos. I'll be honest...I get the same thing every time I go: the mole enchiladas. The only reason I keep getting that is because they're so damn good! I mean, I try mole almost wherever I go (even in Mexico, which is a whole other breed of mole), and this is definitely my favorite USA-ized mole...ever. A little sweet, a little not, it's just so yummy! Also, I'm really, really, really ridiculously picky about my Spanish rice, and they get it right here. Perfecto! The margaritas, though, are another story. They're fine, but not maravillosas. They have really strong tequila flavor, but don't pack nearly as much of a buzz as the taste would suggest. Also, they always seem to be out of some of the bar ingredients. Take tonight, for example. Someone wanted a Sol beer. The waitress comes back and says they're out. Then he wants something else, to find that they're also out, and that they had Negra Modelo, Modelo Especial, and a few others. Service is also slow on soda refills, etc., and no extra chips and salsa if you're out. :( Price really can't be beat, though. You can get a full meal for less than $10. I know it's Americanized mexican food, but surely the cooks can bring out a little more amor? I'm a born and bred Californian, so along with my tendencies towards aggressive driving, I have the knowledge of good Mexican food. This wasn't it. A Monmouth resident had encouraged us to try this place, it was late, I didn't get a chance to yelp it before arrival, and didn't realize there were other places in town with better reviews. Live and learn. The interior is lovely, the 6 of us were seated very quickly, and most of the table was thrilled with the chips, salsa and bean dip provided as an appetizer. After a few chips I noticed the unmistakable 'old oil' flavor and spoke of it out loud... the feeding frenzy tapered off some. Yeah, I'm like that. Wuhn-Wuhn! Mom and Dad ordered the fajitas, the chicken was DRY. Mom can be picky so I tried it and it was kind of 'off' in flavor, too. That citrusy cleaning solution (fake flavored marinade?) kind of flavor. :P My chile relleno was like scrambled eggs encompassing a chile. Not worth the calories, but certainly low carb. Flour with the eggs, people. It's an art, but you're a restaurant, and with real Mexicans as staff, from what I saw. What's the excuse? I may be white, but don't dumb it down! My friend had some sort of yummy looking meal with a bunch of sauce and cheese - enchiladas, perhaps? He said it was topped with spaghetti sauce. Yup, no heat, no flavor - I've made Mexican food for potlucks and know how much heat to put in, I imagine Oregonians may have a sensitive palate, but don't try to pass off such boring fare as authentico. Very good food ! Their small nachos dos amigos has it All and will feed 2 easy. The food with shredded beef is really good . Among other things ..it's good try it. Service is pretty good too .. Being latina I will say it is authentic Mexican. As with every restaurant I have ever been to , the prices increase with the dinner time menu. So for the best deals lunch is the best bet. They serve chips salsa and beans while you wait. There is not many restaurants that serve a touch is dessert at the end of your meal and they don't .. We went last night and the food was great. I got a carne asada Burrito and a shredded beef taco. The burrito was enough in its self. The food was flavorful and although they put beans in my burrito and I am not a fan of beans you could not taste them. I got home and ate the taco as a snack and the meat was very good. My wife got a beef taco and some deep fried Ice cream and both were very good. The atmosphere was nice and semi romantic. and the service was excellent. I will definitely go back there. read more

Had a chance to visit on Monday night while traveling through the area and had a very enjoyable meal. I ordered the enchiladas and my husband had the tres tacos. Food arrived quickly and was very good (not to mention the chips and salsa tasted very authentic. Since it was a special evening we also treated ourselves to the fried ice cream. I come here when I want a quesadilla, the most american of mexican foods, I know. I don't really think I've every had anything great at Los Dos. Most of the food is just okay. My husband did have the shrimp mojo de ajo, shrimp with mushrooms in garlic butter and it was very tasty. I had the seafood burrito and I thought it to be sweet and just okay. Rice and beans are palatable. Service is usually good and prices are fair, if you look around there are rarely any hispanics eating here, I think it is very americanized mexican cuisine. read more

"My Manager said it's a Margareta!!" Ah well send him over please... He argued that IT IS a Margareta and said they always server them like that... I was beginning to think I fell into a rabbit hole where Margareta's are daiquiris!!! I WILL NEVER return there and the food was poor especially after being made to feel STUPID.. I was there with several (5-6) family members recently, we found the service VERY poor & slow - we walked in, stood there several minutes before we even saw anyone to help us. After we made eye contact and they saw we were there, it was still awhile before someone came & asked us what we needed - we told them we were there to eat - waited some more, finally were seated, but then waited longer to order our meals. I can see IF they were really busy, but this was around 4:30 pm and maybe 2-3 other tables with people being served. Food was good, our soft drinks were not re-filled until we had to ask for it - but with the very lacking service, next time we'll go to another Mexican food place ... lesson learned ... read more

Growing up in Southern California with a Hispanic Wife we ate at many Mexican Restaurants both in the U.S. and Abroad. I first noticed how they greet you with a smile and a welcome. The Sitting is open and not cramped. It is well lit and we love the decor. Now in any Mexican Restaurant chips and salsa are a big deal, there's are wonderful. The chips are fresh and the Salsa has a little bight which is what you want. They come with a smile to your table and once you place your order it seems they have the food ready! The quality of their food is great, the meats are lean and tasty, the cheeses baked just right. All for a price that won't break your wallet. read more
