I would not recommend this business to anyone. I brought in two pairs of jeans to alter. One only needed a new button and one only needed hemmed. I was given a three week pick up date, and even after that, they were not ready for another week past the original date. I live 30 mins away and made a special trip to pick them up and they couldn't locate them. I called again again today (the next business day) and they still can't find them. The gentleman I spoke was very unhelpful and rude.I directly asked him if he was the sole owner of the establishment and he said he was. However, from the reviews it seems the owner's name is Karen. I will never go back and would not ever suggest this place again. The last time I took something here to be altered they gave me a few weeks to wait for my dress for my wedding, I never heard anything else from them so I decided to go in on the day they said it should be ready and they hadn't even started on it at all, they said to give them 12 hours to finish it, so we went back the next day nearly 24 hours later, and mind you this was also TWO DAYS before my wedding, still wasn't done, asked to come back yet again. We finally come back the final day...STILL IS NOT DONE, we said we refuse to leave until they are done with the dress, they did not even apologize at all and were incredibly condescending and rude, a little apology and some money off for the fact that they cause IMMENSE stress THE DAY BEFORE MY WEDDING would have been nice, didn't even need a discount really, if they had at least even taken any accountability at all for the fact that they severely overbooked themselves that would have been fine. I would say if you're going to have your wedding dress altered there you *should* be okay, but I would not trust them for any other services. I had them alter my wedding dress, MOB dress, and 2 bridesmaids dress which they did just fine. The problem I ran into them with was after my wedding. I called 2 weeks after the wedding to ask about cleaning and preserving which they do claim to offer. So of course since I had a great experience before, I chose to give them my business. Fast forward to the day I drop my dress off and we find there are 2 pieces of appliqué that need sewed down and one button that needs sewed back on. No problem (or so I thought), Karen offered to do those small repairs before she sent my dress off and I was told 6-8 weeks before I would have my dress back. Finally I realize it's been 10 weeks with still no communication so I decided to give them a call just for Karen to tell me she had not even started on my dress yet, nor had she sent it off but she reassured me it would be done immediately and sent off "tomorrow" along with a tracking number being sent my way. Another month goes by and I realize once again I have received nothing and so I decide to call and this is where things go south. My dress had still not been sent off, nor has it been touched *once again.* So of course, I get the same, "I'm sorry we've just gotten busy, I'll send it off tomorrow" lie. I went to pick up my dress that night and get my money back and had a bad experience once again. No customer service at this place, and still no apology or attempt to make anything right. Bad Experience! Took my daughter and her wedding dress to them over a month ago . The dress was to big and needed to be taken in and shorten the straps. we went Saturday July 27th to try on and pick up. When my daughter put on the dress the shoulder straps immediately we knew they were to tight and cutting off her circulation and leaving red marks on her . We told the owner and she proceeded to tell us that the straps on a wedding dress are supposed to be that tight. I told her she needed to fix the problem on the dress and she told us that if she adjusted the straps , We wouldn't like it or be Happy . She also said that the straps on the wedding dress wouldn't loosen up the more you wear the dress. Which makes no sense for a wedding dress , you only wear it one day!!! We paid left unhappy then decided to take the wedding dress and get second opinion at another alteration place and they told us that Alterations Unlimited shorten the straps but didn't adjust the arm holes and that was what was cutting off my daughters circulation and they should of known to do that. We are Now paying for Alterations a second time at another place , When we already paid Alterations Unlimited to do the wedding dress. Very unhappy and disappointed with the owner of Alterations Unlimited. I called her and told her of their mistake and she Never apologized or took ownership of the mistake. If I give no stars I would! They will lose your dress! WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER! I brought in my wedding dress on 8/25 and was told it would be ready by 9/20 at the very latest. On 9/19 I received a phone call asking for an extra day. My wedding isn't until 10/6 so I said, sure, one more day is fine. I was told I would get a phone call in the next day or two to come try it on and have the bustle added. I received no phone call and every time I called for the next two weeks the phone was busy, and I got hung up on, or sent to voicemail. Finally, on 10/2 I was able to get someone to answer the phone and after being on hold for over 15 minutes while they looked for my paperwork and dress, they came back on the line and said they were starting on the dress now. When I asked why it wasn't done yet when it was supposed to be done weeks ago the man said "Do you want us to stop working on it?" I said No I just want my dress done because the wedding is this week. Then he said he'd call me when it was ready and hung up. He did call back a few hours later and said it was ready for me to try on so with my bridal party by my side I went in to try it on and have the bustle added. Once I got the dress on we realized that they hadn't added the modesty panel in the front. They pinned the dress to add the bustle but since they still had to do the modesty panel they had to keep it overnight, again. Once it was all said and done the total cost was about $65 more than what the ticket they gave me at drop-off said. His response was "It doesn't matter what your copy says, what matters is what I charge you." In a panic, I've called all of my other vendors to check statuses and they've all been appalled by the way we were treated and said that this is not normal or acceptable. read more

I was in town for a memorial service of a great friend and my zipper on the dress I was wearing broke. I called Karen and she said she could do an emergency repair. These women saved the day! My whole zipper needed to be replaced and they did it in less than 30 minutes and I made it to say my farewells to a dear friend. Dropped off a new pair of Levis to be made into shorts. Called twice to see about a completion date. Took almost a month to get Levis back. My mistake for not checking to see if work was done. I just took the bag and left. When I got home I checked the jeans to see how they looked and found that nothing had been done. ($19.26) charge for taking close to a month to get no services performed. Can not speak of the quality of their work as none was done in my case. Wished there could be something less than one star for my experience. The reason being that I called the next day thinking they would take care of it. Instead they insisted they had done the work and after they repeatedly insisted I was wrong, basically calling me a liar, I gave up and hung up. I had a very expensive Gore-Tex rain jacket which had two seams come apart after washing with a load of jeans by accident. Even though it was twelve years old, it still looked great, and I was willing to spend quite a bit to get it fixed. I have had bad experiences with two other sewing places here in Springfield in the past, so I decided to give them a try. They said it would be ready in seven days. They called me on the eighth day, to tell me it was ready to pick up. A very professional job, as I could not see any sign of the two four inch repairs, nor the place where they opened the lining to get to the inner side. The cost was less than 10% of a new jacket, and I was very impressed. I don't know why some Reviewers had such bad experiences in the past, but I would not hesitate to recommend them to my friends, based on my experience. read more

Let me start off by saying I am PISSED. We dropped a jacket on 12/30/16 and we were told it would be ready by Jan 4th. We drove here on the 10th to pick it up and was told it wasn't finished. NO CALL. NOTHING. 6 EXTRA DAYS AND IT WASN'T DONE. We proceeded to call in every few days or so to check on it and kept being told it wasn't done. I finally called yesterday Jan 17th, and was told it would be done that night and I could pick it up before close at 6. Well I didn't make it there by 6. But we received a call around 8:30 saying it was done finally. Today I went to pick it up at they charged more than what we agreed on, AND HAD THE AUDACITY TO TELL ME THAT WAS CHEAP. I went here because of 2 good reviews I saw online. However, I was really disappointed and will never go back. I needed small adjustments on 2 dresses, 1 shirt and 1 swimsuit. Although she did an ok job, they lost my swimsuit for a couple of days which made me panic. I paid an extra $10 for a rush and they did complete it on my deadline. However I had to drive across town at 11:00 PM to pick it up. When I got there, she had her two grandchildren there with her while she was rushing to get my stuff done. Again, it was ok quality, but they are just way in over their heads with the amount of work that the customer service was negligent. Also very pricey. I guess I would recommend if u can wait a month. Don't go here if you have an expensive gown and need it altered. I took my Mother of the Bride dress here and they did a lousy job. The side seams were not sew properly sewn and would not lay flat. I had lost a bunch of weight since I bought the dress so it needed to be taken up about 2 sizes. She asked if I wanted her to take the side seams in the same amount all the way down or graduate it down. I told her to graduate the seam so it would be more full. She did not sew a graduated seam all the way down to the hem so there was a poky-out part mid way down. She told me it just needed to be steamed and said I could put it in the shower area and steam it & could also iron it. I did not try to steam or iron it till I got to NY for the wedding because I knew the packing process would cause more wrinkles. I used to do sewing for decorators and know what a good seam looks like and while I was steaming it I could tell the top layer was not laying correctly & was bunching up gathered like. I then tried to iron it with no avail. I also told her it was an outside wedding and the dress ended up being way too long to wear in the grass, I tripped over it a lot and got a grass stains all along the bottom hem. I did tell her I liked it while I tried it on for the final fitting but her telling me that steaming and/or ironing would make it lay right had me convinced it was okay. Long story short, all the wedding pictures of me in my dress look terrible. When I got back to Springfield I took pictures in to show her and her response was well you should have had it professionally steamed and did not offer to fix so I could wear again someday or possible sell it. I now have a dress that cost me over $600.00 which included the $140.00 for alterations and can't do anything with it. My feeling is that they should have steamed or ironed the dress once the sewing was done and they would have seen what a bad job they had done. One final point, I bought & ordered the dress in February in New York and went to Alterations Unlimited in March and my first question was, "do you take American Express?" the girl behind the counter told me yes. When it came time to pay for the alterations in June she, the owner, Karen, said "I'm sorry we don't take American Express". I lost it and went off on her since my total budget had been planned for months. She ended up telling me I could pay by check when I got back when I could. That was the only good thing that happened. However, I have had several people tell me that I shouldn't have paid her anything till she fixed the dress. I think they were probably right. It is just sad I felt awkward during the whole wedding and pictures look crappy. I am telling everyone I know not to go here. read more

They have fixed two prom dresses and two party dresses for my daughters and not only do they make it look easy... but you can't tell the dresses had anything done to them. But, my experience here compels me to at least warn people in the area: In short: They said it would take two weeks...It took 3 months. They said it would cost $75...It cost nearly double that. They said they would restitch the garment...They missed 40% of the seams. They never apologized. They just acted annoyed when I pointed out the problems, and told me I would just have to wait for them to correct their mistakes. After 3 months I ended up just picking it up. It had been hanging in the back totally neglected. I took it to another local alterations place, who did an excellent job and also pointed out the poor craftsmanship of Alterations Unlimited on the seams that they did do. I have had good service from them in the past but this past year has been horrible. The customer service just keeps getting worse and worse. Recently I took three shirts and a pair of pants in. The lady that measured the shirts (to have the hem taken up) didn't know what she was doing. It ended up that they shorted the sleeves instead of the hem, ruining the shirt. The owner didn't have a solution other than to ask what I wanted to do. All the while she seemed most unsympathetic to the fact that she ruined the shirt. I looked for a replacement shirt but couldn't find one so I had her hem the bottom and I'll roll the sleeves up. The pants (had them lined) had to be taken back as well because the lining was too tight, I could barely sit down. To add to all this, I took the items back to be fixed over 3 weeks ago and they still haven't gotten them finished. When I called she said she would have to find them and call me back. When I called in May to see when it would be done I had to call back twice before getting a call from the owner 3 1/2 hours later. I had brought in a handbag for repairs. Brought it in early March and was told it would be done the following week. Week came and I called to find out it wasn't done and to call again next week. That end of the week came and I called once more to find out that nothing has been done and to call again. Well another week goes by and I call to speak to a lady who said the bag was not done and that they would call me to let me know when my bag was done. I gave them another week, no calls, nothing. It's been a month!!! I finally called and told them that I was picking up my bag regardless. I got my bag back and I am deeply disappointed at their services. I do not recommend them at all, they were not sorry for holding my bag up that long and I had wasted all that time when I could had sent the bag somewhere for a faster turnaround. I have been going to Alterations Unlimited since I was very young, and each time before the first incident was great. I had a dress for a debutante ball that I needed altered with a bustle, they were told that, and the bustle was not put on the dress. The day of, my mother had to sew her own bustle on the dress so I could walk with ease. I still decided to use Alterations Unlimited after that because I had such good luck with them in the past. The second incident was a pair of pants that I needed altered for a trip which were promptly lost. I was told someone else came in and took them for me, which is impossible considering I have only four family members in town. My pants were missing, so they paid for a new pair and did not tell me I would have to pay for the alterations but told my father that's what we agreed to. We did not. Eventually, I get a call about a day before I go out of the country that my pants were found. I go into the shop, am told someone "accidentally" picked them up and then returned them two days later. They decided not to call me until weeks after. I was furious, and still had to pay the alteration fee! I will not be using them again for I have been disappointed too many times by somewhere I thought I trusted! read more

Very upset and disappointed!! I dropped two purses off in September and was told they would be ready in a few weeks which was October 17th. It's November 30th and they haven't even started the work on my purses. We've made 2 wasted trips to pick them up and keep hearing promises that they will be ready that day and I will receive a phone call. I haven't received one phone call. I've been very patient but want my purses back fixed. They are charging a lot of money for the small amount of work I'm requesting. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone.
