I bought a super cute dress in the smallest size available at the time I was shopping. The dress was large for me but I bought it anyway knowing that I would take it to be altered. The length of the dress was already fine so no hemming to shorten the dress was requested or necessary. The dress is quite roomy in the arm holes due to being a little large for me. After a seamstress had pinned up the requested changes a different seamstress took my dress to the service counter telling me it would be ready 1 week from today. Me: " That sounds great" There was a small order slip with $65 already written on it. She asked my name and phone number. She wrote my information on that very little slip. Then she says: "That will be $65" Me: "You want me to pay you for work that you have not done and I'm not seeing the fit is even correct for me?" Her: "That's our policy." Amazing! I have taken many items of clothing to these gals, and they always do a great job. They can do really complicated alterations and fix things I didn't think could get fixed, but they can also do simple alterations like pant hems, or replace buttons. One time I needed some jeans hemmed before I went on a hunting trip and they did them while I waited. I am astounding at how they can fix my shirts that see rough use, when I wasn't sure they could fix them. These are skilled artisans, and I think their prices are more than fair. I appreciate how they will always tell me up front how much things will cost, so there are not any surprises. The workers there are always friendly, and are efficient in getting me rung up and out of there quickly. I would highly recommend them to anyone. Also, I have noticed a few reviews complain about cost. My response is 1. Alterations are not based on what you originally paid for the garment. 2. These are highly skilled artisans and deserve to be paid for their skills and knowledge. 3. They give you a price UP FRONT so you get to decide if you want them to do the work. Don't agree to have them do the work then come back and complain the price is too high. Lastly, I have never had a problem with them, but I know they are good people. If there is ever a problem they are more than happy to fix any issues, just communicate with them and they will fix it. They have always been awesome for me, I love this place! read more

They have altered many slacks in length for me. They always do a great job that does not unravel.

I brought them a formal gown for an event and asked that they hem it, sew on a piece of trim (that I provided) at the waistline, and sew in a small "v" shaped modesty panel. I had the dress on while they marked and pinned it and we discussed the specific alterations. When I came back for the dress, the waistline had a total of ONLY FIVE (5) stitches holding the trim on and the modesty panel was exactly what I said NOT to do. I agreed to let them try again, but the waste line trim then only had a total of 8 stitches and ended up braking free during the event, as I was my original, voiced concern. I was so embarrassed. I also paid more for the alterations than I did the actual dress, and it took longer than stated. This was my 1st and LAST experience with this shop. Gave 1 star because 0 isn't an option here. read more

I took in my very expensive wedding dress after the place got some good reviews. HORRIBLE experience. Please do not take a wedding dress there. The lady was rude, uninterested and argued with me on what I wanted. I picked up today and ask THREE times are you sure not too long.... she kept on saying no. Came home tried on for family and I am actually not convinced she even hemmed it. I looked closer and looks like she just chopped off.... uneven some of the mesh. Very upset. It also cost 400 dollars for basically nothing. I am now having to take it to somewhere else and pay again because I am NOT stepping in there again with my dress. read more

I took a bridesmaid dress to be altered and feel the dress did not fit any better when I left then it did before. I also feel I extremely overpaid for what I received. The alterations cost as much as the dress and considering only two small changes were made I was disappointed with the service. read more

Was told a bridesmaids dress would cost $225 for the alterations and thought that was ridiculous and decided to take is somewhere else. The dress alterations ended up costing me $40 for the EXACT same alterations. I couldn't believe it. Glad I took it for a second opinion. I had a job interview and was under the gun purchased a 500.00 suit and paid 90.00 for alteration that were not as good as having Dillard's do the work even gave them second opportunity to do a better job and they did not have the expertise to do the job correctly. I will never take anything to this alteration shop. So I just kissed 600.00 down the drain will never be happy with suit bad situation do not use this alteration hack shop! read more

Alterations by Jo Ann has become my new secret weapon in making my clothes fit! For years I have bought fitted dress shirts--but they never seem to fit. I discovered Jo Ann's can alter them in the sleeve and side to remove excess material. The result is a custom-fitted shirt for a minimal investment. The results look great. I take my "off the rack" suits and sports jackets in for minor modifications and they look great. They have repaired pants, neckties, and altered my waistband, etc. The place is clean, well-organized, and changing rooms are ample with full-length mirrors. As a first-time customer to Joanns I had an awful experience. I shared with them that I had many things to tailor, and if I had a great experience that I would be bringing in many suits and other workwear to be tailored, so I was expecting great customer service. My dress needed pleats and a hem. They had me pay upfront $49. I received a call later that they misquoted me, and I actually owed $20 more. I came in the next day to see what all the fuss was about and the dress was not even finished or started on after a few days( it should have been finished at this point) I was also requested to bring a statement from my bank of what I had purchased even though the lady at Joanns told me I didn't need a receipt to show what I had purchased it was the most weird point of sale systems I have ever seen. Even though it was their mistake on misquoting me, still wanted me to pay a total of $79 to tailor a basic black dress and wouldn't budge even though they hadn't finished address or prove to me that they had any good tailoring whatsoever. Explain to them that this is not my idea of customer service and I would like to just pay the original amount I had been quoted and that it was their mistake and that they should take care of it. I grew up in MO and every time I visit family I bring all my alterations with me. I have not found anyone who does quality alterations where I live. My jeans never fit right so they either need to be hemmed or taken up at the waist to close that gap in the back, or both. It does make the overall cost of my jeans higher but they fit well so I love wearing them and am not always tugging up my pants. You get what you pay for. The ladies at Alterations by JoAnn do a great job. I also usually take advantage of lower sales tax in MO and buy the clothes there and have them fixed before I leave. It takes a week, but that's their standard turn around time. They will do it faster but you have to pay a little more. I also like that the place is clean and has nice, large changing rooms with a place to sit down. Some places are nasty and have little dogs yapping at you and make you change in a narrow closet with a curtain. read more

I've gone to them several times, most recently to have some old jeans taken in and re-hemmed. A little pricey for those of us on a fixed income, but they completely renewed my old jeans and now I'll get a couple more years off of them! Great job! read more

I get all my formal dresses (so far 6) altered here. They are fantastic! The ladies really listen to what I want, and it gets done quickly.
