I found Violette on Yelp and tried her because of the great reviews. I was not disappointed!! She is a very sweet woman and a very gifted seamstress!! I'm so glad I found her. Her prices are very reasonable, and she is very accommodating - scheduling the appointments so that I could go after work. She did a great job with my lacy dress, even adding some material to the back of the dress because I was a bit intimidated by the plunging back and I wanted to cover a tattoo. I'm 5'2", so she had to hem quite a bit, too. I highly recommend her to any brides-to-be. Violette is an absolute sweetheart and incredibly talented. My wedding dress came out beautiful and fits like a glove! Somehow she just knows your measurements without ever actually measuring. She's brilliant. My dress was purchased off a used dress website, brought it to her based off reviews on Yelp. She took up the hem, removed a belt attached on tulle, expanded the bust, adjusted the buttons and zipper, and added a bustle. So much work done within two weeks. She's a magician. read more

Violette was wonderful to work with. She turned around a fairly complex alteration (switching out a back zip for a corset closure on a tulle bridesmaid dress) in 2 weeks - during wedding season! She is personable, helpful, kind, and professional. I visited her three times, and must admit I was sad to pick up my dress on my third visit (after hemming) because I won't see her again until I have another gown to wear. Just picked up my wedding dress from Violette yesterday - and she did a beautiful job! I was afraid to bring my dress to David's Bridal (where I purchased the dress) because it received such negative reviews - so I brought it to Violette instead. The hem is the perfect length and it's perfectly even - and she even pressed/steamed my dress and veil. She did a beautiful job on the bustle as well. Violette has so much experience with this sort of thing - there were 15 or 20 other gowns "in queue" in her front room alone. I can tell that she takes a lot of pride in her work. Violette did an incredible job altering my wedding dress. There were quite a few alterations that needed to be done, and she did them all at a very reasonable price. Because my dress had a very intricate hem, in order to shorten the long skirt, she had to shorten it around the waist, and she did an incredible job! She also had to shorten the top and alter the shoulders, all of which came out perfectly. She was very friendly to work with and let me come over in the evening, sometimes at very short notice. Violette is lovely to work with, and I would recommend her for wedding dress alterations, and any other formal wear. She really knows her stuff! read more

I can't say enough wonderful things about Violette. My husband and I decided to cancel our big wedding and elope. We had less than two weeks to get everything together- and for me to get a dress. I had low expectations of what I would be wearing, and ordered a few dresses online. The right one arrived two days before our departure- I knew it would be a stretch to even have the hem done in time, but after I spoke with Violette, she understood my dilemma and said no problem. She was warm, cheerful, and excited to help me. Not only did she hem my dress beautifully, she took it in and made a beautiful sash, in less than 24 hours! It was more than I could have hoped for! I know my situation was out of the ordinary, and I would never expect anyone to do as much as she did so quickly. Violette was recommended to me by a co-worker, and she was so wonderful to work with. She charged me $350 flat for everything, no matter how many times I needed to come in. I ended up going in 4 times over the course of 6 months! She added a bustle to my dress, and took it in a good amount as well. The piece she worked on the most was my bolero - she had to ensure it looked absolutely seamless with the rest of my dress, and when I tried it on 3 weeks before hand and found it to be too big, she had me come in that week and fixed it in literally a matter of minutes. Violette is the sweetest woman! Before finding her, I called multiple other places that said it was too close to my wedding for them to work on my dress. Violette was the only one after 10 other phone calls who would take me in. It was about a month before my wedding and she was diligent and made me feel like I was her priority eventhough she had SO MANY other dresses to get done in a similar time frame. She was professional and very calm and never made me feel bad for suggesting other things or for wanting to do another fitting, eventhough I was the one who brought my dress in so late! Like everyone else has said, Violette is very sweet and nice and pleasant to be around. You can go to her home for alterations and she will try to work around your schedule. Despite this, I would avoid Violette at all costs for your wedding gown alterations. The first time I arrived for alterations (at least 3 weeks after my first fitting) Violette had completely forgotten I was coming and had not started ANY alterations on my dress. I came back several more times for additional fittings. On what was going to be my last fitting I told her that I felt the dress was too big (there was too much "bunching" around the abdomen with the lace). She told me that this was because she had been working with the lace and that once I have the dress steamed things will tighten up and will look perfect. She assured me that this would fix the problem and tried to reassure me. As expected this did not fix the problem and the dress looked horrible. At this point it was the week of my wedding and I was out of the state in my hometown. I took the dress to another seamstress and she was appalled that someone would let me leave with a dress looking like this. She listed 7 or 8 things that were wrong with the dress and showed me all of the "shortcuts" Violette had taken with doing the alterations. The lace was not lined up appropriately, the inner lining was too tight leading to bunching, there was no shape in the waistline and she also found areas of ripped lace. This other seamstress completely redid my dress and made it look perfect in record time! I spend hundreds of dollars to have the dress steamed at a professional wedding gown cleaner and another $250 in alterations. Violette did reimburse me for the $250 spent. I would not recommend Violette to any one for alterations. read more

Very happy with a bridesmaids dress altered by Violette. I realized about 2 weeks before a wedding that my dress did not zipper all the way up. Violette agreed to fix the dress within a week and was able to adjust the zipper to fit. Very happy with the customer service and prices point. Two of my daughters went to Violette recently to have alterations done on their wedding gowns. Not only was she very accomodating as to setting up appointments but very pleasant and easy to work with. Her tailoring skills are top notch, her fees are reasonable, she even noticed a tiny tear on the back of one of the gowns and repaired it in such a way that you can't find where it had been originally. Another daughter just picked up her bridesmaid dress last week and we are so pleased with the work done, especially that Violette suggested putting in a bra which lessens the stress of wearing a strapless bra. She gave her a big discount on the work done, saying that she likes to give a discount to repeat customers. Violette gives you the choice of paying up front or when the work is done. Violette did an amazing job altering my wedding dress! She played around with a few different bustle ideas to figure out which one would make my dress look the best, and I really appreciated that! She made the bustle really simple and my MOH said it would be really easy to do on the day of. I've seen her twice for consultation/fittings and will go back once more before my wedding in August, and I'm extremely happy with the alterations she made. Violette did a wonderful job with my wedding dress alterations. She needed to do a drastic hem (since I am only 5'0) and I had a long train on my gown. I also needed a bustle and she showed me two different options and then gave me her opinion on which one she thought looked better, but ultimately it was my decision. I went with her opinion given her expertise. I did think that the price was high, but I probably should have shopped around for different quotes just to compare. Violette was very nice and flexible but I wouldn't say she is the best seamstress i've ever come across. At my first fitting, everything seemed to be great. She needed to take it in a little bit more and fix the top a little bit. I went back 2 more times and something just seemed off about my dress and everytime she tried to fix it, it just became more uncomfortable. At my last fitting, 4 days before my wedding, it was taken in too much and the top didn't fit at all. She took it out and fixed a couple things as I was sitting there, it took maybe 10 minutes which should have been a red flag. I left with the dress but wasn't 100% comfortable with it. I tried it on at home in better lighting and found that stitching wasn't complete, lace and string were hanging out of the top, some of the lace in the back was ripped, the top button fell off, and the lace in the front was a bit shorter than the under layer in some parts. The bustle also wasn't even, one button was about 3 inches off and it wasn't the easiest to figure out. I had to take it to someone else to finish the top a day before my wedding and she mentioned that she would have done things very differently. If you want someone quick and flexible and your dress is simple, Violette is the way to go but if you want it done well, i would go somewhere else. read more

After much research, I am incredibly happy that I chose Violette as my alterations expert for my Wedding dress. I knew I didn't want to go with the alterations person from the place where I purchased my dress because of the inflexibility with appointment scheduling and the price. Violette was a gem to work with and ensured that I would look absolutely stunning on my Wedding Day. Because of some weight loss and also ordering a size too big (a decision made by my consultant), my dress was almost 3 sizes too big on my first fitting. Violette didn't even blink an eye to this and went to work right away to make sure my dress fit just right! It definitely did and I am happy to say I felt like a princess on my Wedding Day because of Violette's magic! It is good to note that Violette charges one flat rate based on your first appointment and never changes this price even if additional alterations are required.
