In 2026, it's heartbreaking that racial profiling is still so present in everyday life. Disheartening? Absolutely. Surprising? Sadly, not anymore. I walked in to give them my business after scheduling an appointment 3 and a half weeks ago -- to have my wedding dress altered -- and was dismissed almost instantly. No conversation. No courtesy. The moment she saw me, everything changed. Because I don't "sound" the way I look, the shift in her attitude was immediate and unmistakable. It was clear I wasn't being judged on my request, but on her assumptions about who I was. I refuse to normalize or excuse this kind of behavior. If you share my background or look like my family does, I want you to be aware of what you might encounter here. Brought my wedding dress here. She was very nice and helpful; however, was not great at communicating. I had to call a few days before the wedding to see if she was done- she wasn't. we barely had time for any further alterations. At the original fitting, she quoted me $400. When i picked up my dress she told me $500 and wouldn't budge even though i told her that's not what she quoted. based on this, i won't be going back. read more

We had a last minute alteration emergency and when I say last minute I mean literally less than 2 days. I contacted probably 10 tailors around the city which most (understandably) said no after given the turnaround time we needed. Had my wedding dress altered by Beatrice and she did such an amazing job! I spent a long time looking through yelp to find someone and I'm glad I found her. She worked quickly and did an amazing job. My dress was lace and she shortened the length, added a bustle, fixed the neckline, and reinforced the buttons on the back. I've been to weddings where the bride's bustle comes undone over and over again throughout the wedding day, so I told her I was concerned about the bustle. Tl;dr: disorganized, loses items, incomplete job, over-priced If you are looking for a wedding dress tailor, I'd highly recommend going somewhere else. 1.5 months until my wedding, Beatrice lost my wedding veil and insisted that I was the one who lost it. I ended up spending more money on a new, non-refundable veil, as I was stressed out with my wedding coming up and needed a veil for my ceremony. Two weeks later, the veil ends up being returned by one of her customers who somehow took it home. My original veil cost $125, and the new, non-refundable veil cost $230. I asked to be reimbursed for the original veil, especially since her original tailoring price included fixing a tear in that veil (which she didn't end up doing, probably forgot) and because this was her mistake. Beatrice did not agree to this. She also lost the bra cups she was originally going to sew into my wedding dress and insisted I lost those, too; she decided to only reimburse $20 for not doing the cups. Felt like I got punished for her multiple errors, disorganization, and incomplete job. Paid $680 in the end for wedding dress hem, two-point bustle, taking in at the waist. Pretty disappointing. Takes cash only. Thank goodness the dress came out okay, but do yourself a favor and save yourself some stress by going somewhere else. read more

Beatrice has altered 3 different dresses for me now and I've had a great experience each time. She is always friendly and welcoming, but efficient in her interactions. Clearly someone with a ton of experience who doesn't need much direction to make your alterations just right! I had one somewhat casual dress made of nicer fabric and two formal bridesmaids dresses altered here with completely different needs for all three. Great turnaround time and pretty fair prices for the quality, convenience, and speed. Happy to pay a bit for a local institution like this. She is also a very fair businesswoman- I brought one dress in, tried it on for her, and she told me I didn't need alterations saying "Why spend the money?" I bought a beautiful but complicated wedding dress with lots of layers of delicate fabric and lace. I was worried about getting it tailored because I needed to take a few layers out and needed it taken in as well as hemmed. In addition, my family is in California and, unfortunately, I could not have my maid of honor or mother's opinion on alternations. Beatrice is so sweet and lovely she made me feel comfortable immediately. Beatrice gave me her honest opinion in regards to the alternations and what she believed would make me look like a princes on my wedding day. I'm truly happy to have found Beatrice. She did an incredible job with the alterations and the bustling was perfect. It was very easy to bustle, did not come undone, and made my dress look so stunning and elegant. It's been a while since I've given 5 stars out...and my home slice Queeny is definitely deserving of a fiver. I came across her initially from other reviews boasting her fabulousity. I had a long, fully sequined skirt that was part of a kickass mermaid costume that I needed taken in, so I could wear it to a wedding. She did a great job on it, and at a reasonable rate. Since then, I have brought her capris with a ripped pocket/zipper, a maid of honor dress, a shirt I somehow got a 5 inch hole in, and had her redo the lining of a wool coat that ripped. Everything came out perfectly. She is fast, does high quality work, and at a very reasonable rate. Love her! I also love how she knows nobody's name....because everyone has the same name, to her...honey. Everyone who walks in the door is greeted with a "Hi honey!" or "What do you need, honey" or "Go in the dressing room and try it on, honey" ...you get the point. Now...learn from my numerous mistakes, that I make time and time again: 1. Her hours vary a bit...don't go on Mondays, as I always do...she's closed. 2. Don't bring a credit card, as I always do...cash only. 3. Don't park in the non-meter spot that's saved for the bus and linger inside, as I always do...you'll get a ticket. and finally...the mermaid costume wasn't really worn to a wedding. It was for a Halloween party. I'm not that off my rocker (yet). Just wondering how many actually read to the end of my review. ;) If you've made it this far, it's time to get off the internet, go up in your closet and get out all the crap you've been meaning to get taken in/out/up/down and bring it to her! Like her namesake, Beatrice found me in a dark place (ie, after being stood up by my original seamstress a month before my wedding...) and saved me. She could not be a sweeter person, she was super honest about timeline and separating out essential work from optional, and her rate was more than reasonable. It was a stretch for her to fit me in during a very busy time and on quite short notice, and I am so grateful she did. The few things she did to my wedding dress got it to fit as though it had been tailor-made, not just altered, and her attitude was such a huge comfort to me. I will FIND things to be tailored to keep giving her business. Nice note: when I went in for my first fitting, another customer came in and was waiting for me to be done with the dressing area. Given all the great reviews, I came here for my wedding dress alteration. I bought my dress pre-owned and I was lucky enough that the previous owner had similar measurements to my own. Unfortunately, a lot of the appliques were falling off the dress, it definitely needed to be taken in, and I wanted to change the neckline. When I brought the dress in, "Queeny" kept commenting that the previous tailor did a horrendous job with the alterations they did and I panicked but she then proceeded to reassure me and called me "sweetie" over and over again and said she'd work on it. Despite the fact that previous work had already been done to the dress (boning in the ribcage area), she successfully attached the appliques back on seamlessly, brought in the dress to fit like a glove (to the point that I was afraid I would not able to zip it in..), and altered the neck line from straight to sweetheart. It totaled $200 in cash (I didn't realize it was cash only and had to run back out) and though I admit I wish I was informed of the price more upfront/sooner than the pick-up date, I was still very happy with the work. It helped that when I did the final fitting, she gushed and made me feel like a million bucks! read more

Being short, I have gone to my fair share of tailors, and this place by far is the best, no frills, tell it how it is, quality joint I've been to. (trust me, i've been to tailors up and down newbury to brighton, to waltham in search for honest, quality work.) I got my wedding gown done here as well as a reception dress, and they were both perfect. I have sent my friends to go to her because I'm so impressed with the quality of work and price. I'm definitely going back for many years to come (including a bridesmaid dress coming up). Many tailors will try to hustle you for a few extra dollars here or there. nip it here, or there. add this or that. When I came in, expecting to fully tailor my wedding dress, she gave me an honest opinion and a simpler lower cost solution to my problem! You won't be disappointed here! read more

The thing that really impressed me when I first visited "Queenie's" (that's how Beatrice answers the phone) was how much she gets clothing and stitching. She knows how things should fit and how they are designed. She understood right away, for example, that the dress I brought to be taken in was a plus-size 12 and not a "regular" (misses) 12, and told me I was smart for realizing that it would better fit my upper body, even if it needed to be taken in in other places. She's very sweet, works quickly, great prices, and does a really, really nice job. You really can't see where she's worked. For example, on one blouse she took in for me, she preserved the satin binding on the inside seams and replaced it - I couldn't believe anything had been done to it till I tried it on. She also remembered me when I came in a second time about 2 months after the first time I gave her business. And she always compliments me on my clothes. Nice lady, great business - only wish she could take credit cards, but I understand why it's not economical for a small one-woman business. read more

I cam here after having read the positive reviews for the shop, coupled with the place that it is incredibly convenient for me to get to. I am -so- glad that I did. I had two pairs of pants hemmed perfectly for $22 total, which was the estimate I was getting per pair from some other alteration shops. The proprietress is an absolute sweetheart, as everyone here has mentioned. She asked when I needed everything done by, and when I told her I didn't care, she had everything taken care of within a week. She's obviously a natural, as the pinning took seconds, and the hems came out absolutely perfect. I dropped off a dress this afternoon to get hemmed, so I will update my review accordingly. However, considering what a great job she did on my pants, and how positive the other reviews for her have been, I imagine it will be a moot point unless I can convince Yelp to add a 6th star. read more

Yelp to the rescue! I had my wedding dress custom made while I was on vacation in Vietnam. I had asked the seamstress to make a belt to go with it, but the language barrier got in the way and I ended up with a belt that I didn't like because I couldn't explain what I wanted correctly. So, I decide to take the fabric to a seamstress and see if I could get a belt I liked out of it. I searched on Yelp for someone close that wouldn't cost me more than my wedding dress and do an excellent job. Queen's dressmaker popped up in my search and I couldn't be happier that I chose to go there. Beatrice was so sweet and she did an excellent job. I brought in my wedding shoes and asked her to copy the bow on them in the belt and she matched it perfectly. She hand sewed on the belt beautifully and she did it all for $30. Cash only, by the way. No checks or cards. Just call before you pick it up and Beatrice will tell you how much you'll be paying. read more

This tailor is right around the corner from my apartment and I'd been waiting for an opportunity to bring something in. I've got a wedding this weekend and I found a dress that fit perfectly except for the v-neckline. It plunged just a wee bit too low- I felt like Baby in Dirty Dancing with my bra visible. A simple job, but the lady there- who is super nice!- did a great job. double-sewed it so it was a bit higher. It's not going to budge or come apart. And it fits just as well on the sides- she didn't pull the fabric too much. I brought the dress in Thursday afternoon and told her I needed it Saturday and asked if that would work for her. Her response: "we will make it work!" Simple job, but I knew this might be a busy time for her. Her hours are 9-5 during the week and 9-4 on Saturday, but she's often in the shop until 6 or 7 during the week. Thank you, Yelp! I needed a bridesmaid dress altered and I wanted to reline my winter coat. Beatrice did an excellent job with both, and it took her about 2 weeks for both items. I'm sure that she could have done it sooner if I really needed her to. The final cost was just as she had told me when I dropped them off and as others have noted, she only takes CASH. I just called the day before and asked how much the total would be. I went out of my way to go to this shop and it was so worth it! 5 stars is not enough stars to rate how good Beatrice is. She deserves a 10! I had a yelp account for years and had not made a review, but this experience definitely deserves a great review. I heard a great share of alteration horror stories (was not ready when told, job done terribly, expensive), but I am glad I did not have a bad experience at all. Beatrice is friendly, very passionate with what she does and always made sure each alteration is done perfectly and in a timely matter. Her hours are until 4pm on Saturdays, but she was still there past 6pm. When I asked her why, she said she does not leave until she is caught up with her alteration orders, ensuring her orders will never be late. And of course, she leaves later to accommodate the time for her client's to pick up their alteration when needed; for weddings, going away to college, or just casual wear, etc. It is a CASH ONLY place, but it's definitely worth running to the ATM for. I brought in a really long bridesmaid dress that was one shouldered with a cold shoulder detailing, which I absolutely hated. Beatrice agreed with me and she told me she'll do her best to get rid of it. When I went to pick it up today, I was amazed and blown away beyond expectation when I wore the dress. Beatrice did a really great job!! The not so desiring cold shoulder detailing was taken off, which made the dress look so sleek! And, the length of the dress was perfect.. now I know for sure I will not trip and I can see my shoes! It was perfect. The cost was also very reasonable for the job completed! If you're looking for a seamstress, do not hesitate to call or drop by to see Beatrice. She is really friendly and it will definitely not be a boring visit because she's really good at building rapport with her clients. She can really create miracles in the alteration world.
