I purchased my dress from Poshmark (brand new) but had tried it on at BHLDN in Chesnutt Hill, MA. They recommended 3 tailors when I was there and Rosas's was the one closest to my Cambridge, MA house. I had so many sleepless nights worrying my dress would not be perfection, and reading some ridiculous reviews of Rosas's (some bridezillas complained about all types of things like her losing a dress). But, low in behold, my dress was altered to utter perfection with Rosa. She was timely, communicated, worked up to 7 days a week to get the job done for me. She is Turkish and used to do hand-made, custom dresses in Turkey. She did a fabulous job. Yes, it was $700 and I paid CASH with some on a CHECK. BUT it was worth every single penny and I felt perfect @ my wedding in the dress. I wore it all night long and would recommend this place to any future bride. Rosa was borderline rude and short with every bride she came in contact with, whether in her shop or on the phone. We didn't discuss pricing extensively but she did let me know that the bead removal in one area would be $100-200, which I thought was a little steep but I said okay. The rest of the alterations were very simple--pulling the straps up slightly, hemming the bottom and taking the cups out so I assumed the total cost would be around $300-350. I had my final fitting and everything was great--the length was perfect, the cups were out and the straps fit well. I went to pay her with a credit card and she started acting very strange and asked which alterations she had made on my dress as she hadn't written anything down to document the process (?). I told her what she had done and she proceeded on getting mad at me for not making her keep track of the alterations and for not discussing the price beforehand. She then said it would be $500 which I thought was pretty expensive (the dress itself was $1000) and that she would only accept cash (?). She had never told me about any cash-only policy, which makes me wonder about her business practices, and I didn't have that much cash on my at that time so I questioned her about it. I feel as though she pulled the price out of nowhere and then demanded cash. I came back the following week, $500 cash in hand and got my dress, assuming everything was fine. It was my fault for not trying on the dress one more time before the actual wedding but I assumed that the dress would be exactly the same as it had been in the final fitting. So I went to put the dress on an hour before my wedding ceremony only to find out that the cups had been sewn back in, which is not at all what I wanted. They made my chest look very large/pointy when I wanted a much more natural look. So between the time of my final fitting and when I came to pay for the dress, she had purposely sewn the cups back in. They were also sewn in so much that it would have been almost impossible for someone to take them back out, as my maid of honor so kindly offered to do. Everyone told me that they couldn't notice and that the dress still looked great but it definitely bothered me and it was not how I wanted to look on my wedding day. read more

So, Rosa's very friendly and chatty....but: a. she charged me $150 to reline a coat (reasonable I guess, but not great) and didn't tell me she didn't take cards at the end of a deal until I came in to pick it up. You can pay with cash if you pay before the alterations are made, but not afterward. That goes for checks too. b. she charged me $50 to tailor a skirt and a shirt (total) -- unreasonable. c. while I was in the changing room, I overheard a gentleman come in with a pair of "slacks." He'd talked to her on the phone, she said ten dollars. When he brought them in she said it was a much more labor intensive thing (hemming!) and it would be more like $30. I wanted to tell him to bring them over to my place and I'd do it for $5. But I thought that would be inappropriate. Anyway, like I said, she's friendly, but she's overpriced. If she ever starts talking to you about how it's "really a difficult process," just smile, thank her kindly, and leave. read more

I've been taking garments to Rosa for just about a year now, and though she is pricey, her work is always excellent and my garments are ready for pick up by the agreed upon time. I received a referral for Rosa from another excellent seamstress- so you can trust that Rosa knows her stuff if other industry people will recommend her to pick up their overflow. Rosa's shop is cash only, which can be inconvenient, so just make sure you know how much you owe before you arrive to pick up your garments. read more

There are not enough words to adequately express how thankful we are to Rosa. 4 days before my daughter's wedding, Rosa took our frantic phone call requesting help to repair a hem that had been done incorrectly at another shop. With the kindest and most caring manner, she expertly assessed the corrections and alterations that were needed and reassured my daughter that she would be able to fix her beautiful wedding gown. We were so relieved. My daughter picked up her dress the day before her wedding and was thrilled with the results - the gown was even prettier than the original version! Wow, I had a completely different experience than Angela. I needed a bridesmaid dress altered, and it was literally days before the wedding. It involved a lot of work as I had to buy it in a bigger size to fit properly. It was strapless, which means the fit was even more important! She charged $40, had it done it a day or two, and it fit PERFECTLY. I was able to dance the night away without worrying about exposing myself. read more

Wonderful experience with Rosa! Rosa did my bridal alterations and since my dress had all this seamless lace, Rosa basically had to make me a new dress. Her pricing is fair and from what I can tell pretty similar to most other bridal tailoring. She also does everything in 3 fittings (with the first when you drop off the dress and the last when you pick up) which I found really efficient. Would definitely recommend her! read more

I dropped off a dress with Rosa to have the zipper replaced. This was a straightforward tailoring job. She quoted the job at $20 and told me it would be ready in 5 days. I wrote down the price on a business card, and left. When I returned to pick up the dress I put $20 on the counter, as that was the agreed upon price. Rosa seemed quite surprised. She said "well, I said $20 but really this should cost $25." Me: "You said $20." Her: "It was more complicated..." Me: "It was simply replacing the zipper, nothing more." Her: "Well, OK." Me: "That's what was agreed upon, so here is $20. Thank you" I don't like that she tried to make me feel guilty about the price she quoted me. Attempting to guilt the customer in to paying more is not a good pricing tactic, and it is not a good business practice if she wants repeat business. I have definitely experienced better. read more

Based on a recommendation from a friend, I took my wedding gown to Rosa for tailoring. She says she's been tailoring wedding dresses for 30 years, so, okay, I trust her. I am such an idiot. She quotes $350 at the first visit, which is a lot of money for 1 item of clothing, but she's supposed to be good, so I go for it. When I return to try on my dress, something is just not right... it's wrinkled in some places, pulling in others... it doesn't feel or look right. However, Rosa keeps saying it's the "style of the dress" and it's because of the fabric (silk gazar.. although I'm not sure she recognized what she was working with), and not her tailoring. "I didn't touch these seams!" she says. I continue to look at myself in the mirror, trying to figure out why it's all lumpy and bumpy. She chimes in with "It looks perfect! I'm so happy with how it turned out! You should be happy! I fix a lot of wedding dresses and all the brides are happy!" But I'm not happy and I'm made to feel like there's something wrong with me or my eyesight. I leave with an uneasy feeling, and since I'm not a seamstress, I don't know what to say or do. I call the headquarters of the designer of my dress, and they tell me to take my dress to the seamstress at L'elite. So now I have to go back to Rosa and get my dress back. Unfortunately, since Rosa is convinced there is nothing wrong with my dress, I have to pay for her all the hard work she put into mutilating my dress. At first she wanted $300, but after some discussion I got my dress back for $200 and ran the heck out of there. The lady at L'elite immediately recognizes that Rosa completely messed up my wedding gown - instead of taking it in at the seams (there are 2 seams on each side, as well as a midline zipper in the back), she pulled the whole thing in from the back to tighten it up. Basically it's all screwed up. Now the people at L'elite want $150 to undo what Rosa did, and then another $600 to actually tailor the dress correctly. I am so traumatized by this whole experience I almost don't want to get married now. Everyone says to take your wedding gown to someone with a lot of experience, but unfortunately experience doesn't actually always make you a good seamstress. P.S. The best part was, when I told Rosa I can't afford to buy another wedding gown, she said, "This is an expensive dress??" Yes, Rosa, my wedding gown cost $5000 and you ruined it!!!!! read more

I went to Rosa to get my bridesmaid dress tailored and I would not recommend anyone to go back there for such items. I did not get normal every day clothes tailored but I can tell you as far as the bridesmaid dress I got done it was EXTREMELY overpriced. I couldn't believe what she was charging but not being able to get to my normal seamstress in CT, I had to get it done here and bit the bullet hoping it would at least turn out well. She fit the dress fine and we set a date for my pick up and I returned on said day. When I arrived she looked at me and didn't know what to say and just goes, "Oh, your dress is not ready yet." I had brought it in at least 3 weeks prior and was stunned. When I am paying for something to be done and am told it will be ready, it should be. Not to mention, the wedding was a week away and I was leaving within the following few days. All of which I told her when I brought it in and she assured me it would be no problem at all. She proceeded to give me an attitude and tell me that she called me the day before. I say I didn't get any message and her only response is "Well I didn't leave a message!" Great. So I'm suppose to be a mind reader. So I asked how much longer it would take because I would need it this day. She got upset and said she just had to do the halter neck strap so I waited until it was ready and she continued to be rude about the entire situation. She also never mentioned that pick ups must be paid in cash. I had to then walk down the street to an ATM. I think this information should have been given when I first dropped off the dress. I have to say though, her work was fine and the dress fit great. However, the lack of professionalism and the unnecessary high prices will keep me from going back here. I will definitely be looking for another seamstress in the future. read more

Rosa is amazing! She worked diligently on my dress and did not stop until she was 110% satisfied with how it fit. Due to the amount of material, my dress would not fit in her machine. Rosa did all of my alterations by hand. Her attention to detail is impeccable. She pinned carefully, called me when she wanted to make a change even redesigned my bustle. Superior work at a fair price. Rosa is not inexpensive, but the quality of her work is outstanding. I used to sew a lot and am fussy about alterations, and Rosa is now the only tailor I will employ. I came in with a standard-size dress that needed to be altered to a petite fit. Rosa made the changes I asked for (shortened the straps) and also suggested additional alterations (took in some at the waist and the bust) that resulted in a dress that fits like it was made custom for me. The friend who recommended Rosa's Custom Tailoring to me said that Rosa had an excellent understanding of how clothes fit women's bodies and I agree. I am never going to my husband's tailor again. Being new to the area one of the things most important for me to find was a seamstress that did quality work at a reasonable price. You see I'm a bargain shopper from eBay, to all the great consignment shops around town, Marshall's T.J. Maxx etc... I'll buy something a size or two larger knowing I can take it in if necessary. Rosa is amazing. My friend and I visited a few different tailors with my wedding dress. We were received with various attitudes and a wide price range. Rosa, on the other hand, was immediately warm, like a family member. She also offered styling suggestions, explained the work she would have to do, and gave a fair price so there was no surprises. By my first fitting, she had the top half done perfectly. By the second fitting, the whole dress was done gorgeously. The bustle hooks and clasps blended in so well with my dress that my bridesmaids actually had trouble finding them. She even held on to my dress until the day before the wedding so that my husband would not see it. I would definitely bring other clothes to her as well. When visiting her, I saw people bringing in both normal and bridal wear, and she treated everyone with the same grace and kindness that she treated me. read more

Incompetent tailor. Totally a waste of time and money. She doesn't know what she is doing, she doesn't understand material type and dress styles. She ruined my dress (i only asked her to iron my brand new dress that was wrinkled while it was shipped). She flattened the bottom half of my beautiful, delicate, flowy pleated skirt. Yeah how stupid is that?! The skirt now looks ridiculous where the top part is pleated and the bottom flared and flat. Because of all her work in screwing up my dress, I had to postpone my maternity photo session, order the same dress again and pay extra fee to have it shipped quickly from London. Waste of money and time. When I complained, all she did was just to defend herself as she was saying she only tried to help me! Well you don't TRY to do things if you don't know what you're doing. Either you know how to do your job or you don't TRY things and ruin customer's clothes. If a tailor doesn't know what a pleated skirt is, and how it should be simply ironed, good luck having her tailor your precious dresses. read more

Fabulous job! I am in a wedding and had to buy a dress being pregnant. I was due 3 weeks before the wedding so I went up 2 sizes. Terrible idea. I tried it on 8 months pregnant and it fit. I called Rosa and explained the situation. She said come in latest 2 weeks before the wedding. Luckily I had my son a week early. I went In, she toook everything in. Rosa was very nice and super helpful. She did a great job of making me feel comfortable during the entire fitting process. She just didn't do a good job of actually fitting the dress. I loved it and that's why I was so disappointed when I put my dress on for the wedding and it was way to big. She said she was going to take it in and nothing happened. All night I was pulling it up and adjusting it. It was really annoying. She also took out the hook for my bustle so I ended up wearing my dress on my arm. Rosa has altered at least 20 garments for me over the past two years including my daughter-in-laws's very complicated wedding dress and my own Mother-of-the-Groom dress. She also made a jacket for me to match that formal dress. In ALL cases the work was extremely well done, ready when promised and fairly priced. I can't understand the negative reviews I've read because they don't in any way correspond to my experiences. From the volume of wedding and other formal dresses I've observed in her shop and the comments I've overheard from other happy customers I know that Rosa has a large fan club. I called Rosa's Customized Tailoring, explaining that my daughter had bought her dress across the street at VOWS and that she has a contract with VOWS for alternations should anything happen to my daughters dress during alternations. I also explained that my daughter lived in another state and it would be difficult for her to make several appointments to have her dress alternated 5 months prior. She not only confirmed that she had a contract with VOWS, which was an out and out lie but assured us that we had plenty of time two months before. Had we not went into Vows the day of the appointment to ask if we could park in their lot, we would not have known that Rosa's IS NOT in fact contracted with VOWS but "Alterations by Anahit" is contracted. We took a chance and drove to Alternations by Anahit and she was so welcoming and took us in immediately, Shame on us for not double checking prior. I want to make all other brides aware of Rosa's false business ethics. She should have been honest with me when I first called. This is a special day for all brides and for her to lie saying that she has a contract with VOWS is BAD BUSINESS when she knows Vows will not honor any alternation mishaps on Rosa's part. If you are buying your wedding dress at VOWS or any other bridal boutique "Alternations by Anahit" is the place to go!!! You will not be disappointment by her. read more

I went to Rosa to have my wedding dress altered as it was highly recommended by the place I bought my dress from. After two fittings, I went to pick up my dress two days before my wedding. I tried it on a third time, and to my and Rosa's HORROR...the dress DIDN'T FIT. I couldn't even zip it up. She then asked me how much weight I had gained to which I replied that I had lost five more pounds since my last fitting, so it wasn't my fault the dress didn't fit. She had taken the dress in WAY TOO MUCH. To make it worse, I was supposed to be on my way to the Cape for my wedding, and now I had to wait another five hours and pray that she could fix that she took it in entirely too much. She somehow managed to loosen it up a little bit, but it still didn't fit properly. DIssappointing to be so concerned that your dress doesn't fit properly on your wedding day, because the tailor butchered it! Needless to say, she still had the audacity to charge me the full $550...and foolish me didn't have the emotional strenght to fight with her over it. Will never go back, brides--please don't take your wedding gowns there. read more
