Its a great place, the staff is friendly and helpful. The food was delicious and their prices are fair.

Alter brewing is right by Oak Brook mall and off the highway, making it a convenient spot to stop in at. The decor is modern, and the place is clean. I went for lunch on a Friday afternoon, and they weren't super busy but picked up as the afternoon continued. They have a good variety of beers--my favorite is the heavy squeeze which is a lemony beer, similar to summer shandy but much better in my opinion. For food, I got the vegan black bean torta and fries. It was good, but did not wow me. I'd get something else next time, although there was nothing that was wrong with it. The bartender was attentive and seemed to enjoy being there. read more

Excellent menu and service from Maddie! She was great helping us with food choices and drink options . Everything was great

Came here on a Tuesday night with a friend. We made reservations just in case. We were seated immediately. Service was great. We were immediately asked for our drink order and then for our food order. Food arrived quick! I ordered the boneless ribs. So good! Eating them as leftovers later was great as well haha. My friend got the bang bang chicken sandwich with chips and said wasn't too spicy - so if you're scared to order thinking it may be too spicy you're in luck! As for the beer, we both got the Swedda Wedda - seasonal oatmeal stout. Was my kinda stout in that it wasn't too sweet and didn't have too much of a coffee taste. Was just right. Want to go back and get it again before it's gone! As for the atmosphere, I loved it. I read one review saying was too sterile. I thought was exactly what I would expect for a brewery with a kitchen. Gave you that brewery feel. I also really liked the decor. Didn't get many pics as I saw others pretty much covered it. Only negative was trying to get in the parking lot. However that's normal for that area. Gibson's lot is similar. I had to drive around the building twice before I noticed th correct turn to make to pull in lot. Plenty of parking for a Tues but can see it filling up and perhaps wanting to use the valet on a weekend. I don't know. Just something to consider when coming here. Other than that am a fan! Great addition to the OB area. read more

Beautiful space and good staff. This is a place to see & be seen. Let me state for the record; I'm not Alter's target customer. I'm not young, wealthy, or a hop lover. They do have a full bar. Not an IPA guy - too bitter and hoppy. I'm also looking for a wing or any appetizer under $15. I'm also not paying $20 for a hamburger. I want to love Alter. Please give me a beer I enjoy and a sandwich I can afford. Thanks read more

We have been so excited to come here. We actually came by when it was still under construction and sadly it was not open yet. They say it's been open about a month now. We are eating a Smashburger and having the Alterior Motive brew. We really like this place. Beautiful space and great food. Shout out to Robert for his friendly service, and educating us on all things with this brewery (there are mutiple locations nearby). read more

We visited with 13 people for my husbands 35th birthday. We had a wonderful time. Our service was good, everything kept moving. Appetizers came out quickly. We had two people serving our group. Food was delicious. Overall two thumbs up from us. They saved the cake in back for us and brought it out for dessert and candles. We had a great time and will return! The manager Adam was great answering any questions we had prior to the event. Very happy with everything we encountered from pre conversations to arriving 30 minutes early to being served throughout the night. Great job Alter! read more

Great experience here on a rainy cold Chicago Friday night. Enjoyed some house chip brisket nachos and drinks. Our server was super. The gift shop was above and beyond what you might find at the average brew pub. read more

Apps at the bar. Great food. Tommy service was top notch. Will return again for dinner. Nice beer menu too.

Ordered a salad to go. Wait time was excellent but the salad itself definitely not worth $20! No dressing, no bread to go with it....I received 3 pockets of ketchup instead? Disappointed. read more

Typical Alter experience beer wise. Wide selection of styles and while nothing is reinventing the wheel, it's always solid and always consistent (which a lot of other locals can't master). Excellent Common on right now. Food was well above average. If you can order a medium rare burger in a newer place and it actually comes out medium rare you can bet they can handle the rest of the menu. Excellent friendly service. Great addition to Oakbrook. read more

Great fresh beer, great food and atmosphere. Try it out you won't be disappointed. Love the Hopular Kid beer, cool beer name too.

Love this place Nashville chicken sandwich was great. Service was friendly Nice ambiance read more

First time at Alter and me and my friend had a great experience- Food is great! I recommend the Nashville Hot Chicken Sandwich. Their house made fries and chips are chefs kiss. The ambiance in Alter is awesome. Lots of games going on (happy hour every weekday from 3pm-5pm which means $5 draft beer! That drew us into Alter) with a huge TV screen and many others around the restaurant. Service was fast and reliable. Our beers came quick and cold and our food came out hot and fresh! Claire was our server and she did a great job! read more

A beautiful massive brewery in the oakbrook mall, loved the interiors and the food. We ordered the corn dip and the beer battered shrimps, both were so good! Lagger was light and refreshing! Absolutely loved the fries and the black bean burger, the bang bang chicken was a bit on the sweet side. Overall great ambience, great food and amazing beer read more

Chelle was Amazing! This was our first time visiting Alter. We're celebrating the holidays with our office team. She greeted us, seated us, offered drinks & apps and was our server. At the same time, she was assisting other tables as well. Great attitude and service. All the food was good too! Large portions. Chelle made our first visit to Alter a great one. Thank You! read more

We were kind of regulars when the restaurant first opened. Food and prices were great for a while but things changed. It seems that there's new management and the staff in the kitchen was changed. Prices increase and the quality of the food leaves a lot to be desired. A couple of days ago we went to celebrate a graduation. The waitress was rude to half of the table. My daughter's hamburger was charred and inedible. The dressing in my husband's salad was so bad, the only thing that you could taste was an explosion of ginger. I had never tasted something like that. I had the chicken salad. The chicken was so salty and peppery that I couldn't taste anything else and hours after I ate it my mouth was still burning. We couldn't even eat half of our dishes. My sister got sick with the food and spent the night vomiting and with diarrhea. It was a great restaurant when it first opened. I'm sorry things are like this right now because the ambience is great and their beer is good. However, WE WILL NOT BE GOING BACK ANYTIME SOON read more

Expectations were exceeded for this upscale brewpub eatery. I had been to the St Charles location previously but really prefer this Oak Brook venue. Starters were on point - fried pickles were crispy fried to perfection on the outside. BBQ brisket chips were a generous portion with tasty meat and a beer flavored cheese sauce and lots of nacho toppings like tomatoes and jalapeño. I had a Buffalo chicken wrap which was very good. Service was good. Wasn't very busy on a Saturday afternoon so was able to eat lunch and watch games on the large TVs throughout the bar area. Would definitely repeat. read more

Alter Brewing has some really good beer on a variety of styles. Should the opportunity arise I plan on drinking more next time. The sandwiches were cool but the wings definitely stole the show. I might need a growler of the Hopular Kid read more

Met some friends who live in the area for dinner here while on vacation and had an okay meal. We'd made a reservation for outside and while I do wish they'd had the overhead heaters on our side of the patio, it wasn't terribly cold. A few of us ordered beer but my mother in law ordered a beer punch and it was AWFUL. Tasted so bitter and medicinal and she couldn't even drink it. We ordered bang bang cauliflower, that giant pretzel and some fried pickles and they were all pretty good. I ordered a medium-rare burger for dinner and it was way undercooked but then again, I didn't send it back so that's party on me. Overall, just an mediocre experience. read more

Great ambiance! My friend recommended this place and I must say, it held up to her hype. We hype each other up over new places and this is a new fav! Good for families as well. The beer is excellent, all craft. Service, our waitress was sweet, and attentive! Try the poppers! read more

We saw Alter Brewing Co. as we turned the corner from 22nd St. Although we were headed into Oakbrook Center for a restaurant we decided to try Alter instead. As we're a vegan/vegetarian couple we searched the menu in the parking lot before going in. Yay they have some options for us! We sat on the comfortable patio (tip: the cafe chairs are best) watching cars go by on the street and enjoyed a great vegan black bean burger & fries. Next time we'll try the vegan quesadilla or flatbread, and the watermelon mango salad. read more

I had the Brie, Bacon and Apple Flatbread with a Thyme Paloma and my friend the beer with a Reuben Sandwich. Both were so flavorful and yummy. We had multiple rounds of drinks and the server was amazing, she timed it just right as not to catch us mid-bite. I think we were there for like 3 hours. Only reason we left is because my friend had a business call at 3PM. We'll Definitely be back! It's such a vibe, cozy, chill and the food hit the spot. Parking was also not an issue as it's not right by Oak Brook mall, but off a side street next to Fogo De Chao. Check it out! read more

Easy to order online and my order was ready by the time I arrived. The staff was very quick and attentive so I was out the door in no time. The food itself was very good even for takeout considering eat-in is always better than take-out. This did not disappoint! Being that it was take-out, I wasn't in the actual restaurant for long but from what I saw, dining in would make for an enjoyable experience as well with a good atmosphere. read more

Very noisy and packed location. We sat at the bar and had great customer service. We split a flight and that cost $11 for 4 pours. It was tasty. read more

Chose a perfect sunny day to visit this place. Ordered a refreshing King Squeeze; its a citrusy cherry beer. It was refreshing for a hot day. The burger of month was Alfredo Fiesta Crunch. It was good juicy burger but i think could have had more flavor. A special mention to the Chili Garlic Shrimp! A must have! The service was very polite and prompt and I loved the ambience both inside as well as outside. The decor inside makes it feel premium but comfy at the same time. Outside is more relaxed and perfect for sunny days. read more

Ordered the pineapple jicama salad, salad was very large how I like it with plenty of meat and ingredients, amazing. Wife ordered the bang bang chicken sandwich, I don't know what they put on that sandwich but it was one of the best chicken sandwiches I've tasted. Service was pretty good, server unfortunately had a very large party come in so was slowed down a bit to no fault of his own. Last but not least ordered the bread pudding for dessert. Tasted amazing. Beer in house was great as well I would recommend this place to anyone looking for very good food, great beer, with a memorable dessert to boot. read more

Could not recommend Alter Brewing enough! It's my fiancés and my go to place to grab a bite and drinks (love the southwest salad, burger and shrimp tacos), but we also had his 30th birthday here last night and it was amazing! The waiters and waitresses (shoutout to Tiffany) were so attentive and polite, food was really good (sliders, shrimp, meatballs, bruschetta and flatbreads) and the drinks were great! The event manager Khriston was extremely helpful and kind. Everyone that came really enjoyed it! read more

Our favorite beer Hell Hazed Over and a damn good burger ! And the service was outstanding!

The prices of the beer are kind of high but this place is overall clean look sharp and is a welcome new addition to the area this place also serves as a restaurant and from the way the people look dressed this is probably highly expensive and overall there is much in different types of beer to choose from. I would definitely recommend this place and this place along with the two other locations is another proud local Brewery deserving a respect read more

We love coming to Alter to see Maddie, she takes great care of us and always is so attentive. Great beer and food, fun ambience!

We love the beer and food at Alter, but management needs to step up and properly staff the restaurant. We saw people sit at the bar and walk out because they couldn't get someone to wait on them. It wasn't the fault of the servers. They hustled. Just not enough help. read more

Great design, great appetizers, beer is good, my friend said his martini sucked, but the noise is ridiculous. It's so loud in here I can't hear myself think. Good luck trying to hear anyone sitting at your table farther than next to you, even in the little side room. UPDATE: I'm updating due to getting my entries and my bill. I had the hot honey chicken. The skin wasn't crispy at all, there was no spice, the succotash was cold, and the mash potatoes were not creamy at all. Also, for some reason, it was a chicken dish that cost $27. Why?! Was it wagyu chciken? The glasses of wine my wife drank were more than what we pay at the store for a bottle, and can a place charge $15 for a cocktail with an ounce of alcohol in it? For 4 people with tip my bill came to $250. That's ridiculous. The place looks very upscale and trendy, and the architecture inside and out was cool, but between the insane noise level, mediocre food, and ridiculous prices, I won't be returning or suggesting the place to others. read more

Had a fantastic time here. Good Beers (except the one lol) Great food. Friendly people staff and patrons. Will be back!!

My roommate and I spontaneously checked out this new place in Oak Brook. We ordered a couple of appetizers and a few drinks while sitting on the patio in beautiful weather. The jalapeño poppers were average with mashed potatoes in the recipe (it was interesting) but the corn dip with tortilla chips was so scrumptious! I give 3 stars because it was pretty pricey for a few drinks and 2 apps ($130 for us two) and I couldn't try different drinks on the menu because they randomly had "splashes of beer" in them. The Paloma was good but didn't taste like alcohol was added. Our server was nice enough to check for gluten free options but didn't seem to be sure. Service was a bit slow but we were able to pay our tab quickly once our serve arrived read more
