Stopped in to try their beer and to watch some World Cup matches. Was impressed with service at the bar even late (no food service), and loved the beers. Tried a mixed flight of IPA, Pale Ale, Sour, and a Stout - all were good and unique in the genre. My absolute favorite was a full pour of the King Balaton, sour cherry with a jammy and complex taste. Balaton is a Hungarian cherry, and I once had a great wine by a Michigan wine maker with the same, so I'm gonna say the Balaton cherry should be a Midwest tradition. There were plenty of TVs showing the World Cup matches, so I could keep up with the action. I look forward to more visits, and to try their extensive beer and food menu.
Work happy hour was hosted at Alter Brewing on a weeknight. This place was super busy! We had a lovely waitress who was doing her best managing seemingly too many tables, but she did not mess anything up which was impressive. We ordered the Bang Bang Cauliflower and BBQ Brisket Chips Platter as well as drinks to start. The group was split on favorites, although I do wish the Bang Bang Cauliflower was spicier. All entrees were tasty, some of the ones ordered were the fish and chips, summer truffle gemelli, the big mick, and pasta primavera. My only complaint is the summer truffle gemelli was a bit bland.
Cool ambience in this brewery type restaurant. Neither of us had any beer that day, maybe next time. I was surprised to learn that they had a gluten-free bun for me to have with their grilled chicken sandwich. The bun did not fall apart like a typical gluten-free bread sometimes does. The sandwich also had avocado and bacon on it. The coleslaw was very good. The waitress was great. Good service and happy to help me with my gluten-free options. My husband had the spinach strawberry salad, which he really enjoyed. We went on a Saturday afternoon and there was a pretty good crowd there. The noise level was not bad at all. There were several families there with children and it looked like they had kids meals available although I did not look on the menu.
I've been to the dg location and knew a bit what to expect but we were really blown away in a good way. Decided on visiting with the whole family for brunch with a party of 10 on a Sunday. I have to say everything absolutely exceeded our expectations. All apps we had were better than average and everyone in our party were beyond satisfied with their drinks. Espresso martini was fav favorite and one of the best I've ever had. The service was very active clearing plates, filling refills and ultra attentive to our needs. It's decorated beautifully inside and has an outdoor patio. Happy to see Alter has expanded and yet still kept the magic of their original location.
I absolutely love this place! The vibe of this brewery is so cool, is one of those places that makes you want to stay and hang there and chill, the decor and paintings in the wall are just perfect! Now even better is the service, our server Hugo was two nights in a row the best, also the kitchen manager, we repeated the same restaurant while on a business trip just because of how nice, friendly and helpful they both were. We came tonite with our sales group and they all loved it, the food was fresh, flavorful and delicious and the beers are also a whole experience, you can find really unique beers and very fun flavors (like Milkshake Beer or the cucumber/lime one with tajin soooo good!). Definitely a place to enjoy your time, your drinks and your food
This is one of our go-to restaurant in Oak Brook for good beer and food. They have great selections of beer on draft and cocktails, too! This weekend, we went for late lunch. We had the chopped salad and Beef Stroganoff. The servings are quite big and can be shared. Both dishes are delicious! We enjoyed our meal. Our server is pleasant and very attentive. I like the vibes of this restaurant, very relax. Parking is not a problem.
This place has become a must do when I come to Oak Brook. Their beer is great and so is the food. The cheesesteak egg rolls were OMG delicious! The bartender was great even though she was very busy! Also plenty of TVs and a big screen at the bar are perfect for watching any big game.
They surprised me by making cauliflower taste good. Between that and the elote bites, the appetizers got inhaled. My wife always has to order the reuben and it got her seal of approval. I went for the brisket mac and cheese (amazing BTW, especially for a cold winter day). Somehow they just knew I like my brisket fatty. We came in during shift change so we had two different servers and a trainee. All of them did great. There's a giant TV over the bar for anyone invested in sportsball, but even if you're not, the food and atmosphere more than earns your attention. Seems to be a Yelp Elite tradition to rate this place 4 stars, but everything was perfect for our group so I'm going to dissent with a 5 star rating.
Updating to add that Alter has a nice kids menu! For $11 there are options like Mac n cheese (a reallll cheesy, extra goopy Mac n cheese!), chicken fingers, grilled cheese, marinara pasta and a few more. It was a nice big portion size for kids too with fries or seasonal fruit as side options.
This restaurant has great options with very tasty food choices. We enjoyed eating all the food we ordered. The waiter was good and so patient with our little one though our little one was constantly throwing the food on the floor The ambience was perfect for a brewery and looked extremely nice.
Great atmosphere to be in. You can go casual, meet with friends, hold meetings, or make it a quick date night. Parking lot. Plenty of space. Happy hour starts at 3pm. The servers are kind and attentive. The menu had some decent options but I noticed it was different from the last time I was there. I guess it changes sometimes. Beer options are nice. I like that they have mocktails. I ate brisket chips. The chips were home made. The brisket was nice and tender. I would have wanted it to be shredded some but the flavor was delicious. The cheese sauce, ranch and BBQ made for a good combination. I would return for more food and beer. The last time I went o had a gourmet grilled cheese and tomatoe soup.. it was probably tomato bisque but it to was delicious.
Great service, great atmosphere! Drinks were really well. Except for if you order a shot, I don't think it's a true 1.5 ounce. I got the mustard wings. I really didn't think they were good at all. The meat was cooked well, but they are fried very differently.
A relatively new location. This location is quite big and has bar, indoor and outdoor seating. When we arrived it was pretty empty, but we were seated at a table sort out of the way. It made us feel we were not part of the restaurant or bar. Our waitress was quick and attentive, but a bit gruff. My husband had a Kriek cherry Soul Ale, it was a bit pricey $9.50. I ordered the corned beef sandwich with a side of coleslaw. The corned beef was well cooked and lean. My husband had the buffalo garlic shrimp. The portion included 7 plump shrimp for $17. He also tried the burger od the month, the grillzilla. It was a huge burger with jalapeno, chihuahua cheese, chipotle tabasco ad other toppings served in a flour tortilla. After eating the shrimp, he took half home. 0verall, the place is new and spacious, with lots of beer and food options, but very pricey.

Nice job! First trip wasn't my best experience but I always want to give it another chance! Being in the industry I know we can have an off night! Glad I came back. Staff were great, place was hopping, real nice vibe. Had the seared ahi tuna salad! Great job! Nice kick to it and big portion! read more

Visited Alter Oak Brook for a work group outing! There was a total of 8 of us which the restaurant could easily accommodate inside or outside based on our preference. Unlike the Downers Grove location, Oak Brook has all the beers on tap in addition to cocktails and food. Our group got a mixture of all. I personally tried the golden fiddle and thyme paloma; both were light, refreshing, and delicious! Most people who got beers really enjoyed the variety and flavors offered. We got the roasted corn dip to start and many of us got salads, sandwiches or a flatbread for our mains. I loved that they had vegan options as I am dairy sensitive. It's not often a restaurant will offer vegan options on the main menu rather than a substitute listed. Everyone raved about the food and said they loved their experience! The last thing that impressed me was in talking to our waitress understanding their staff training process. They make all staff undergo detailed training and quizzes on food and drink offerings so that all are knowledgable to make recommendations. I love that they take the extra step so that staff can put their best food forward in front of patrons. read more

The beer and service is excellent. Their food looked good, but I didn't have any on this visit as I had eaten prior. They had a ginormous pretzel that I would try next time but only with a party of 6 or more, it was huge. I was a bit confused by the ambiance / decor. It looks like it might have been another restaurant before? Maybe not? But the chandelier and some of the other light fixtures didn't feel to fit the space. They had tvs with various games but they were up out of the way so to speak (Which is not a bad thing per se) but I'd you go to watch a game if might be hard to watch eve from the bar. Overall I enjoyed my beer and would come back. read more
Ended up here twice in 1 day - once for a couple beers and a light lunch with the lady and then came back later with the rest of the family when our first choice for dinner in the area just got way too busy. By chance, some sharp manager-type realized that a large party cancelation they received meant that they could actually accommodate our 14-top group on extremely short notice. And although nothing on the menu stands out as an 'epic can't-miss' dish (or beer), just about everything we had was tasty and well prepared, the kids menu helped immensely, and the adults were all quite happy with the plethora of solid, true-to-style beer selections! NThe place has a nice upscale atmosphere with plenty of open air, a huge center island bar, extremely clean and modern restrooms, a real nice patio (despite the oppressive heat it was shaded enough to be useful to several patrons), and the extensive beer/drink and food menus. Like everything in Oakbrook, it's a touch pricey, but worth a date night visit and/or worth checking off a list of breweries to visit. read more
Alter does a great job with craft beer and food! We enjoy the large bar and seating area on every visit, and always leave happy with our experience at Alter! I came for the beer and came back for the food. One of the best kitchens in craft beer not only in Chicago but I would say in the country. The service at the bar is always great, and there is a wide range of beers for everyone to try! The shrimp app does it for me every time. That with an ALTERior Motive and I'm good to go. Great spot for large parties! read more
Okay brewery and food. Sat outside and a downfall was that none of the waitresses knew how to turn the outdoor fans on and it was so humid and hot which I thought was weird. We had to ask 3 different times and they just acted like it was a ridiculous ask. Service is lacking to be honest. read more

We celebrated my girlfriends birthday with her pick to try Alter Brewing company in Oak Brook and it was wonderful! I loved everything about it. The beers flight was delicious and we get to try different ones. We started with a vegan quesadilla and I can't believe how delicious it tasted! You can't even tell it was vegan! The cheese melts in your mouth and that was my favorite dish of the evening! My girlfriend ordered their branzino fish and she said that was delicious and I got the ahi tuna tostadas and mine was also great. And we ended with a chocolate cake for her birthday. Can't celebrate a birthday without cake! Ambiance was nice but make sure you make reservations because they were BUSY which is a good thing. I would definitely go back again! read more

I would go back for just the pretzel alone! I brought my family (4 people) to this spot and we got the pretzel and brisket nachos. Half of us didn't order food because we were full after the appetizers. Service was good and didn't take long for drinks or food to come out. The vibe is so fun and is a good spot to meet friends or watch a game. I unfortunately don't drink beer so I can't speak to the beverages. I'll be back! read more
I enjoyed this location more than the other. We stopped here after Fogo, which is right next door. Didn't have to move and find a new parking spot (which was a cluster). This location is fairly new and it was very busy! Seemed like everyone was enjoying themselves. We didn't eat, just sat at the bar and got a flight of beer. They didn't have a sour beer, but did have some nice IPAs, and I'm not a big IPA drinker. Restaurant/brewery was clean and had a slight fine dining feel. The bartenders were nice, friendly, and quick. The bar was clean and organized. The flight was reasonable at $11. I liked the Hell Hazed Over and Heavy Squeeze. For a large brewery, I thought it was odd they had 4-5 tvs, but they were oddly positioned, not really visible to everyone at the bar. read more
This new Alter Brewing location was a pleasure to see and visit. It's a big, open, colorful, and airy space, and it can get quite vibrant and boisterous as I found particularly in the 5 - 6pm after-work chillax time period. My 'ol colleagues and I had our quarterly catchup here and I'd rate it a 3.51 star outing rounded up to 4, held back mainly by the high prices for everything here. We all had burger and beer dinners, a tried and true brewpub recipe. I had their pub burger and a side house salad for $21 ($2 adder for the salad instead of fries). My two dinner mates both had their Alter burger with fries for $17. My burger was good sized and good tasting and the pretzel bun was really needed as it was juicy and greasy and the messiest burger I've had in quite a while. The colleagues enjoyed their dinners but were jealous of my pretzel bun, but they also had a slightly cheaper burger. All told, I'd rather not have such a messy burger given a choice, but it was otherwise tasty and satisfying. The beers were quite nice, about 4 stars good overall, and I stuck to my favorite IPA regimen and had 3 of them: - 13 oz Ambigram hazy IPA, 6.5% ABV, $9 - 16 oz Tom THanks IPA, 5.5% ABV, $8 - 16 oz Farm Snacks IPA, 7.0% ABV, $8 They don't list their pour volumes on the beer menu, and I didn't appreciate that, but do show them at the end on your bill. It was quite pricey in any case on the beers. None of them were "wow" IPA's and they tended towards the lower hoppiness side, but I enjoyed them all, with Ambigram best and Farm Snacks least, but everyone has their own favorite profile anyway. The colleagues pretty much had a similar lineup with one subbing in an Alterado Mexican-style lager (5.0% ABV) and another subbing in a Swedda Wedda oatmeal stout (7.5% ABV). Overall, a nice, contemporary, spacious, and vibrant brewpub, and I wouldn't mind revisiting but given the competition it's too pricey to be a regular stop for us. I'm sure their new building and a prime business location contribute to their cost structure. Chris was our server and he was friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive. I also noticed that the crowd peaked in the 5 - 6pm period, and maybe 1/3 of the crowd left as prime dinner time occurred, so it's a particularly popular happy hour venue for various and largish work groups in this prime commercial Oakbrook area. They also have brewpubs in Downers Grove (but no kitchen there) and St Charles. read more

Perfect place to do Girls Night Out to celebrate a birthday. Modern rustic look design with a large bar area. Parking can be a little crazy because the lot is shared with Fogo De Chao. The staff was super nice and tentative. Always came back to check on how we were doing. We started the evening with flights of beer. Their in house brew was were good. The Alto Porto was probably my favorite. For an app, we did the vegan quesadilla. So fresh and delicious. For our entree, my girlfriend ordered an app for her main course. She did the tuna tostada. The pineapple on the tostado was so good, the sweetness was a perfect pairing. I had the branzino. The fish was hearty, but a little fishy. The taste overall was not bad. The side of Brussels sprouts was nicely charred and the sweet potatoes compliment the fish. Since it was my birthday, we had a chocolate cake. It was not overly sweet and with the drizzle of caramel and a dollop of whipped cream. It was perfect! read more

Had lunch other day....walking in found the decor very impressive / modern / lots of windows....LARGE BOOTHS.!! I ordered BUFFALO CHICKEN FLAT BREAD.....the chicken was nice crunchy which I enjoyed. The sauce had nice with a hot kick to it. I had a juice... My friend ordered BLACKENED COD SANDWICH...she said was cooked perfectly as yummy. She had beer but can't recall name. On server was very attentive ...checking on our needs from time to time. Wish knew his name ? I will return when out West burbs. read more
Beer was ok, there were plenty to choose from. The place was crowded for a Saturday afternoon which was great to see. A few parties in the dining area made it super noisy. The service was slow but once we had the attention of the bartender, she was friendly and helpful. They're more than likely short staffed which seems to happen in so many places these days. I didn't try the food so I can't comment on that. If you're in the area stop in and try one, it might be your kind of brew. read more

It is such a large space and well-decorated. We were seated right away, so that was good. I had wished for a bit more variety in their beer selection, but actually really enjoyed the Alto Porto (American Porter). My husband got a flight - a couple were good, a couple were just okay. The pretzel is GIANT! I'd recommend getting it if you're with a group. It's so fluffy on the inside. I love that there's a variety of mustards and dips. For my entree, I got the Bang Bang Chicken. I was between getting this or the Pork Schnitzel Sandwich, so I'll have to get that one the next time I'm in the area. The flavors in the Bang Bang Chicken sandwich were great. I also really enjoyed the fries that came with it. read more

All of our dishes we perfect. Huge burger, asked to have it done medium well, and it was exactly that. Salmon BLT salad was large, and delicious, and the salmon was tender, perfect. Ordered walleye fish and chips, but then the told me they were out of the walleye. Switched to the Alter Burger. While in the middle of eating my burger, the comped me 3 crab patty sliders. That was nice, too much to eat so we brought the crab patty sliders home for leftovers. read more

Tried farmhouse burger with sweet potato fries, pepperoni flat bread, jalapeño cheese curds and lobster cake. On a not so busy Wednesday evening, service was slow. Place was upbeat and roomy. Food was nothing spectacular but please, at all cost, avoid the lobster cake. It was literally size of a quarter, was fishy and not worth your time. Sweet potato fries were amazing and the hot honey on flatbread was a nice touch. They forgot the cheese curds so we had it for dessert. Wasn't impressive at all though. read more
