Lunch menu is way better than the dinner menu. Tonight was our first time with poor service. Waitress Kaitlyn was inattentive with a poor attitude. No character and unfriendly. My steak was chewy, grisly, and over-salty. My wife's wrap was just so-so. Took my daughter and her friends for her birthday dinner. Big mistake tonight. Maybe the waitress had a bad night who knows, but I really don't need an attitude when I'm spending over $200. Still left over 20% tip because all of the other helpers appeared to be busting their tails. We drew the lucky straw. Which is funny because everyone had to ask for straws and then she just slammed em down. Welp, apparently we need to stick to lunchtime only if we ever go back. read more

Wanted to check this place out as it's a newer restaurant in Oak Brook. The ambience was really nice has big screen tvs near the bar so probably a good place to catch a game. Our waitress was nice a little forgetful at times. We had wings for an app. Wings were huge and there were a lot as they should be since they cost 18 bucks. I order the southwest chicken salad. Definitely needed more meat as you can see they tried to be strategic with the placing of the meat around the bowl. When the waitress came back and asked about needing a container and i said what for because there wasn't enough meat lol.She said "well why didn't you say something " i wanted to say you didn't come back and ask me. but she had the kitchen make me some fresh chicken to take home which was nice .This 2nd batch of chicken tasted way better than the chicken on my salad . i'd be back it's definitely a nice place to have a drink and apps. read more

This is a great spot for good food, great drinks and awesome memories!! Whether you are getting together to celebrate a life event or just having drinks with friends this place spans all of it. There isn't a thing in the menu I wouldn't suggest and the variety of on tap, house made brews is to die for!!! Another great thing is that Alter hosts many events like brews and yoga or trivia nights. A great opportunity to meet up with friends and family to have fun. The bbq nachos were gross, especially for the over the top price of $22. I would not recommend or buy again. They came out slimy, limp, greasy, and not appetizing to look at or eat. read more

Went with a group of friends for my birthday (my idea 1st time there). Started with drinks, cocktails were very good but one guest ordered a beer that he found he didn't like at all, mentioned it to the waitress but didn't get an offer to switch it out, which would have been a nice offer. We ordered a few appetizers while we chatted. Apps were really good (the Big A__ Pretzel & the Brisket & Chips). We took our time enjoying the apps & drinks & our server was attentive checking in on us occasionally. But then we decided to order dinner & things went down hill. Used plates & utensils were not removed from all, only some, & fresh utensils were not even offered. Then we waited quite a long while for or dinners. Not sure if there was an issue with kitchen staff but foods were coming out very slowly for all diners around us. Then our meals finally came. My fish & chips was put in front of me with just fish & chips, no coleslaw, no tartar sauce, lemon etc. Then I was presented ketchup! I had to ask for the tartar sauce & malt vinegar but there was also no salt on the table & never got any coleslaw either. My guests were also not pleased with their meals (Ruben Sandwiches were nothing but grease and barely eaten, a surf & turf that was over cooked & not flavorful, and a salad that was just "meh"). Plus, as I was eating my fish I had to pick out a large amount of bones which was an immediate turn off. When no one is taking home their 1/4 or 1/2 eaten meals that should be a sign to the waitstaff to ask if there was a problem. We weren't offered the option of splitting the bill which we wound up doing on our own but it would have been nice if offered up front. Lastly, I know it's a family friendly place but sitting our large group of adults next to 2 young families with 4 toddlers and an infant was a little distracting especially since the adults ignored the children playing games running around the tables and making forts with the chairs. Probably would only come again for apps & a drink, but then again probably not. read more

Got a few beers with friends here yesterday! Ambiance and decor was nice, felt a lot like a Denver brewery to me. Had a good variety of beers and a great sour we all enjoyed. The names of the beers were creative and the staff were very friendly. They have a great reward system for loyalty. Will definitely be back! read more

Drinks are ok, service is pretty good but the food is TERRIBLE. Nothing like the pictures they show online. Had a burger and it looked and tasted like someone cooked it in a microwave, froze it, then reheated it in another microwave. This place had a cool vibe. I have to commend our waitress because she was really keen on helping my vegan friend make sure there was no cross-contamination. I tried a beer flight it and it was good - no complaints. I think if our server was average, I might have given them a three-star review. My biggest complaint is about the food. I ordered their cheese curds - I was hungry and it was spicy. Was it good? More like just okay. I then had a wrap that was dry and the chicken was not flavorful. I would return to this spot because it was a pretty decent place to meet up with some friends and catch up. read more

Alter is a nice place to meet up for a nice cold beer. They are a bit pricey, but their rewards program is a good value.

I have driven by Alter a couple times and wanted to try it out. We stopped in for lunch and the space is beautiful and very updated. Our waitress was very sweet and took our order right away. The reason I am providing two stars is I ordered a Thyme Paloma and when the server brought the drink it had a hair in it. I was so grossed out by that. She took it always immediately and honestly I was super turned off by that. The place was not packed so not sure why it happened but i will most likely not return. read more

Don't believe their published lie that they're open until 11:00 PM on weeknights; unless you're just looking to get drunk. I arrived about 10:30, was seated, then sat there for 10 minutes looking at the menu on my phone (accessed via QR code on the table) before a server finally arrived. Started to order and was informed the kitchen closed at 9:30. I completely understand that, but it's not posted anywhere... it's not in Yelp, not on their website, not on the menu, and not even on the door. If they had it posted, at least I wouldn't have wasted my time walking from parking and sitting at a table to wait to be told I couldn't order anything but a last call drink. read more

The beer is great but pass on the food. Have been twice to the Oak Brook location and food is lacking. Flat breads and even the cauliflower are slathered in mayonnaise-based sauces. Eat elsewhere. read more

The appetizers were better than the burgers, very expensive for what you get, ordered the PBJ burger of the month and barely any toppings, tough bacon and again small selection of choices. We were excited to get seated on the patio on a warm spring evening, although the view was of the highway. Indoor decor and ambiance were nice and not too formal. I got a glass of the Sauvignon blanc from New Zealand and the citrus shrimp salad. Both were on the bland side. Seared tuna appetizer was great, bbq chicken flatbread was flavorful. Was really hoping for an amazing experience. The food was just ok. Corn dip was cold but tasty. Fish and chips ok Salmon was good. What really brought this review to its knees is that my mom ordered the black bean burger and she said it was terrible. There was something wrong about the coleslaw and it overpowered the sandwich. She took two bites and couldn't eat any more. The called the waiter over and said it was just off and not eatable. Not only did noone come check on her, offer another alternative, but it was charged to the bill too. Too bad. I was really hopeful but will just consume the beer (which was really good) somewhere else. read more

Food Good. The one beer I had was good. Ordered a second beer but the waiter forgot. We had a reservation and showed up on time. But, we were told we had to wait 10-15 minutes because the server in the section was running late. Sorry, not our problem. 80% of the tables were empty. Big Big Local Craft Beer supporter. Stopped in mid-afternoon. Maybe half a dozen people. Bartender greeted me quickly enough, made an excellent Old Fashioned. The sandwich... I ordered a Rueben. Perfectly toasted rye bread, and that's where the good ended. Poorly constructed sandwich. One bite would have nothing but sour kraut, the next was all cheese and sauce. The other side of the sandwich had all the meat. Which was tender enough, it just lacked any flavor. At all. I don't know. If I decide to try them again it won't be anytime soon. read more
