Great Customer Service! After checking out a few local landscaping companies, my wife and I decided to go with Altamont because we were impressed with how organized they were in our initial meetings. Rachel (the owners daughter) met with my wife, and asked her several questions and based on their discussion, drew up a layout of their plans for our backyard for us to review before they started the project. Once things got started, Frank (the owner) was heavily involved in making sure they met all our needs and that we were happy with what they were doing on a daily basis. Frank walked us through on everything that was going on, and even offered some great suggestions along the way. His crew, did make a few minor mistakes along the way, but we brought these to his attention and he had no hesitation in making sure that any issues were resolved immediately. Even after the project was done, he stopped by a few times to make sure we were still happy. In fact, some sod that they laid down died out pretty fast...he sent his crew out the next day to replace it right away and no charge of course! Altamont's prices are admittedly a little high, but the quality of work is superb! They installed pavers for us, and the craftsmanship and attention to detail are exceptional. I live in north central Contra Costa County and own a townhouse with a very small yard. In 2011, I wanted the yard to look NICE to enhance my serenity--it looked like a jungle that had never been tamed--a mess. Landscape designer Michelle Derviss of Novato did my design, and she recommended Altamont, with whom she had worked and who are local for me. I have had good experiences with family owned, home service type businesses in Contra Costa. Altamont Landscape turned out to be superb. They have treated me like a king!! Rachel does a great job with the appointments, billing, etc.--very clear and quick communication. (I bet she would have done a great design too.) Frank came out personally to my place several times and even did some planting work with his own hands. He made himself reachable by cell starting at 7 am and into the evening when needed. Altamont has a crew of men headed by Roberto, and you can tell they have been with Altamont for a long time. They are cheerful, hard working, friendly, well organized, with spiffy logo shirts (also worn by Frank), and you can tell they are treated well and with respect by their employer. They took care to leave the place clean and tidy every evening before they went home. Later, when a couple of the plants had some trouble, Frank came out personally to replace them, and I had to twist Frank and Rachel's arm to accept payment for them. I did nothing special to deserve the respect and great attitude of Altamont Landscaping. They do have a busy book of work, including big commercial contracts, so I was a small job by their standards. There were times when we had to juggle a bit on scheduling and there were a couple of days of delay. But hey, if they are successful, you have to fit in with their other demands, and I understand that. Looking back, those were minor details, and they handled them respectfully. And I had forgotten about these minor issues until I looked at the other review and it came back to me. Overall, I give Altamont 5 stars. I only wish I had another yard so I could again experience the thrill I got from watching my yard transformed from UGH to WOW! As for pricing, I doubt they were the cheapest. I went with my designer's recommendation. But cheapest isn't usually the best. Altamont will get any repeat business I may have in Contra Costa in the future. read more

We hired Altamont in July of this year. We couldn't be happier with the service, attention to detail and honesty that Frank & Rachel provided! We had a few minor issues and our requests were never questioned or ignored, just handle and in most cases by Frank himself who is the owner! His employees were very courteous and professional, the cleaned up everyday before leaving and other then the obvious construction that was going on kept the site neat and in order! His employees vehicles were clean, didn't leak oil all over the street and they respected my neighbors never blocking driveways etc.......we live at the end of a court and this was appreciated! I am self employed so these details stood out as the project progressed! I would recommend Altamont to anyone in need of landscape services no matter what type or how large or small the project! You may be able to find someone to do your project for less money, but they made this a good experience and it was certainly worth a few bucks more!!! Absolutely the Best! We purchased a bank owned home and landscaping was one of the many tasks needed to be done. During this process I dealt with over 25 different contractors/vendors and hands down Altamont Landscaping blew everyone away. We lined up three different landscape designers, Altamont was the most professional, most organized, most customer focused of them all. In fact they towered above all other 25+ contractors I used. Great attention to detail, outstanding customer service, willing to go the extra mile to make you satisfied with their work, and always willing to return should something go awry. We highly recommend Altamont Landscape. We had a dirt back yard and they turned it into a beautiful paver patio and retaining wall. They heard our ideas, improved upon them and were considerate of our budget. Their crew was excellent, each day when they left the jobsite was cleaned up. We got a immediate response from Rachel in the office she set up a time for the owner to come out. He was to be there at 1pm at 2 he was still not there I called and he answered and said he forgot and wanted to reschedule and could not get off the phone fast enough and did not even take down my number. I called again to reschedule and again spoke to the owner he told me the he was not sure if I could meet the minimum of 4,000.00 that they require. At that point I was done. Yes we can and will spend more than that. I guess he was just to busy for the little people. We waisted our day off waiting for this person who has no intent of even doing a job. Very sad. read more

We were very pleased with their professionalism and responsiveness from start to finish of the project. They had many helpful ideas that saved us money and made the yard more attractive and liveable. Price was right especially after the budget busters in our previous yard landscaping. Overall we are extremely happy and proud of our new yard. read more

We had our entire property landscaped by Altamont,; the project finished in May 2012. The design was beautiful, the workers were diligent and courteous. The result was stunning . . . for a time. As suggested we contracted with one of Altamont's workers to maintain our landscaping for a year. Our plants kept dying and no reason was told to us by Roberto. Then his "commercial" gardening crew took hedge trimmers to our climbing roses and bushes, causing severe damage. That was the last straw! After letting them go, another Altamont worker came to our door several months later, offering to continue the maintenance. Things were rocky from the start. We came to find out the irrigation system was faulty and that Frank knew this. This same employee said he would let Frank know that we had major cracks in our paver patio, as well as large cracks splitting the side yard gate main posts they installed. Heard nothing. Shame on Altamont for not making good on their product. This Altamont worker kept removing dead plants thinking we had a final plan from Rachel, which we did not. My husband said this Altamont employee had a very concerned look after he was told that Rachel never updated the plan when we added more landscaping work for them. We finally just let this employee go as we felt paying $150.00 per month to remove dead plants was an insult. We are now finding another landscaper to repair what is left. In addition, their cement sub-contractor, Swisher did a horrible job, there are major cracks throughout the walkway. Frank knew that one section would need to be replaced, as it posed a hazard. He told us he could cut it out and we could pay to put pavers there. This was told to us in May 2012, which began our displeasure with Altamont's service. Frank and Rachel do nice work, but the experience afterwards makes it difficult to recommend them. read more
