We have used these courts often, and my daughter has taken tennis classes on Fridays for the past couple years. On Sunday, my husband was told that he and my daughter could not practice different shots, and that you had to use their tennis instructors if you intended to practice. It was very appalling, and made the tennis playing experience miserable. There is very little possibility we will be reserving a court to play at this park any longer. I have never heard of this, and have been playing tennis many years. It is clear this is an attempt to get more money. I guess it is kind of going to backfire on them, though, because we will cease the weekly court rental. My daughter has been taking a once a week class these past few years. We have been supportive of this park since we live in Redondo, but it likely will never mean to us what it once did. This is a new rule here according to the park when I called and spoke to them on Sunday. To me, it seems like a horrible decision. Came to Alta Vista for a birthday party. Great park to host a party at. The indoor banquet room is large and fits at least 10+ tables. Has a kitchen area as well. The outdoor patio is covered and large. We had a taco man and blow up bounce houses. They also have a small playground area and sports areas. read more

Cute place for young kids. My friend had her son's birthday party at the Alta Vista Community Center, which opened up to the Alta Vista Park. This was perfect for young kids to get their energy out since there are jungle gyms/slides. The community center was also nice and well maintained. Perfect if you have a function or get together. While there is no fence enclosing the playground next to the community center building, the area is surrounded by small grass hills and a short cement hedge - it actually keeps kids pretty well contained. The playground is good for toddlers and elementary school age children. The floor is a bouncy rubbery surface - so there are no sand or wood chips to get stuck in shoes, socks or diapers. HOORAY! The cement gazebo offers shade and is good for birthday party central. Think balloons, kiddie food, cake... The lawn in between the gazebo and playground fits a big bounce house. There is a relatively clean bathroom in the community center - again, convenient for birthday parties. Further to one side, you'll find soccer fields that are full of older kids and doting parents on the weekends. Further to the other side, there are decent tennis courts. Well, we had a baby shower for my son & his lady yesterday. It turned out perfect. We had the rec center, kitchen & outdoor pavilion. It could not have been a more perfect day for a shower, & I can not tell you how many people loved the space. We had 13 round tables, with about 6 6ft. rectangle tables inside, and another 2 or 3 on the patio. One thing I would advise is if you are giving a large event, bring some trash cans. They only had 1, so luckily we had 2 tubs we put large trash bags in. Also, we had brought everything from past towels, dish soap, utensils, etc. The refrigerator works well, freezer will hold about 5 medium vags of ice. read more

This review is for the SOFTBALL FIELD. Other than the field, everything else is pretty nice. Plenty of parking, in a safe neighborhood and area, clean restrooms. BUT...when you normally play on Alta Vista's softball field, you'll know that this season, they fixed up their field. Redondo Beach Parks put up a new fence line, but added some extra layers of grass right off the dirt. No no, if a ground ball his that grass lip it takes a wicked bounce UP and can take out your teeth! The worse part about this field is the DAMN LIGHTING! Whoever designed this field didn't take into account that the bright lights shine right into your eyes when you're swinging for the fences. And when you're tracking down flyballs in the outfield, they blind you also. SUCKSSSSS!!!!!! And the infield is also a dust bowl. Other than that, I do like the park. HATE HATE the LIGHTS! read more

Rec room is beautiful, has 2 entrances and is sunny and bright. My sister had her baby's first bday party here and it was perfect! A back kitchen with fridge and sink made it so easy for us to keep extra food and store the cake. Parking was very ample which is very important for people coming from other cities. Love it, would definitely rent the rec room again! read more

I play a weekly pick-up soccer game @ Alta Vista. We have people drive here every Sunday morning from all over the South Bay. We've gone through a couple of different of parks in the area, but have eventually stayed with Alta Vista. There's a nice open space across from the Tennis courts that we use to play on. A big shout out goes to the Redondo Beach maintenance crew for keeping the grounds tidy and in order. The grass never gets so long that it negatively impacts our games, and while there are several patches of yellow grass, it's definitely less than 5% of the overall property. I expected parking to be more of a problem when I saw the park was adjacent to two different churches. Luckily, they have enough spaces to not have to come down to the park to...park. Even during baseball season, there's enough parking for all of us to share. My favorite reason for loving Alta Vista? It's a dog-free zone. Your little furry friends are not allowed here. I was even lucky enough to witness a person walking their dog within the park during a baseball game. Someone got on the PA system and began to inform everyone that dogs were not allowed. When the person walking the dog didn't get the hint, they just kept repeating themselves. With each repetition of, "Dogs are not allowed at Alta Vista Park; please respect the rules" the voice grew louder and louder. By the fourth repetition, the dog walker was quick to jog to their car and get the hell out. As much as it doesn't bother me for you to be out walking your dog, I really don't want to have to step in dog shit. Granted, most dog owners in this neck of the woods are quite considerate and bring their own baggies to clean up after their canine friends -- still, rules are rules. Rock on Alta Vista with your bad self. Keep those dogs out! read more

4 stars if a play structure is not required 2 stars for the play structure I am surprised at how NOT nice this park is. The play structure available during the week is tiny. I mean really tiny. I heard that they open up the school's play structure on the weekend. I don't know if this is true. This tiny play structure provides recess for some programs, so it is way too busy for such a small space. If you like fields, there were two baseball fields. My son had a good time for half an hour just digging in the dirt with a stick and collecting leaves. I also saw people playing tennis. This park is a definitely skip it unless you happen to be in the area like we were. read more

Awesome community center at the Alta Vista park. There's plenty of parking right outside and you're close to the jungle gym! The center was easily able to accommodate about 80 people for a birthday party. There's even a little side/prep room that you can use for staging. Dog owners: just don't even bother with this park. For some reason, e.g. perhaps prior bad experiences with irresponsible dog owners, they have the most extreme anti-dog rules here, and do enforce them with fines. It seems like a nice park and all, and I often use the tennis courts here, but when I get warned about having my dog there (on the cement sidewalk near the tennis courts, FAR away from the grassy park areas), well let's just say you won't see me spending any extra time that I don't need to at this park. If I were a dog hater, then I'd probably give this park 3.75 stars. read more

About 1.5 years ago, I reserved the gazebo area for a friends baby shower and all went smoothly. So, I decided to have my daughter's 1st birthday party at the same spot this past weekend and boy was I disappointed. When I initially reserved the gazebo, I was asked if I was going to have a bounce house in which I said yes and that I have one. I told the girl that we would bring our own bounce house and she said I had to pay a permit fee which was not a problem. Fast forward to the day of the party when we discovered that the power source would not work for our bounce house I went to the front desk and was told at that very moment that I was supposed to use THEIR vendors. I was scratching my head wondering why they failed to tell me that the only way to have a bounce house there was to go through their preferred vendor list. So I had 25 kids all waiting to have fun in the bounce house which laid flat the entire party. Now that it's Monday I called to ask for my money back and was also told the manager would be in at 1:30pm....no call as of yet which is even more disappointing. Needless to say I will not be having another party at this place and I will make sure all my mommy friends are made aware of the crappy customer service I was given. (P.S. I only gave 1 star because my initial experience for the baby shower was fine) read more

This review is for the recreation room. We rented this room for my son's first birthday party. The park was very nice and very spacious. We choose it because it had a kitchen and it was very appealing. There's plenty of parking and space for kids to play. For such a nice facility, we knew that we would pay alot. But we figured that it was a special occasion and was worth it. So why the two stars? For the price that we paid we expected exactly what was explained to us the time we signed the contract. First of all, we were told to come by the day before the party to give our contract. We get there and the guy wasn't there like he said he would. Not only that... the place was closed. What really made me angry was the day of the party. We were told that the party before us will clean up after themselves or someone who worked there would do the breakdown of their round tables and help us set up our bigger tables. Low and behold, everyone from the previous party was gone with their tables and trash still there. The only attendee there was a lady wearing heels. She had no idea on what was going on that day. Luckily, I had plenty of help. But we signed the contract in goid faith that we would get what we paid for. If we had gone over even one minute, I guarantee we would have paid an extra $100. 00. Do yourself a favor and keep looking. There are plenty of other nice parks out there that would be much cheaper and definitely have better service. read more

Great courts. Very well let and upkeep is perfect. The fact that they have raquetball is a huuuuge plus! I've never had an issue getting a reservation here and the lights are the good ones. Not the sickly yellow ones you get at most public courts! Only issue is it is $11/hour but that's par for the course. read more

Came here to participate in the Beach Cities Relay for Life. This is a pretty nice community park with 2 baseball fields, several tennis courts, an open grass area, and a community center. There is paking in 2 locations in the park, but with the ability to service a large number of people there isn't enough. You can park on the street which seems like the norm. read more

Soccer, tennis, baseball, community center, basketball, batting cages and playgrounds for the kids. Clean restrooms. Courts are good. Drop in workouts during the week. Lots of free parking but it can fill up on the weekends when there are soccer games going on. read more

More than just your typical park here. There is a baseball diamond as well as a few tennis courts and a large kids structure. I lucked out and managed to walk my dog here without being harassed by Parks & Recreation services. Serious anti-dog rules in effect here so take the pooch somewhere else. read more

This is a nice park with a lot of facilities, tennis, baseball, basketball and even soccer. It is the lowest point of the surrounding neighborhood so when it rains, even a little, this place gets flooded. The bathroom facilities are also only located inside of a small building on the premise. read more

The courts are great, but the guy in charge of the reservations is a real jerk!!! I m not the kind of person complaining but this was too big to stay unsaid. When we asked him a question, seems that we were highly annoying him !!! Probably won't go back there just because of that guy!!! read more
