Authentic Italian dishes bursting with flavor and nice patio seating. Alta Strada one of my favorite restaurants! If you go on the weekdays, there's hardly any wait for a table outside or for lunch on the weekends. Lunch is a great deal with dinner portions sizes that cost less! Great food, friendly service, and wonderful ambiance - 5 stars all around. My only complaint is that I wish the fluffy complementary bread was still offered. World-Famous Garlic Bread - The ciabatta bread is so moist and delicious with 4 large pieces. I wish they still offered it! Sage Against The Machine cocktail (5/5) - Refreshing bubbly with limoncello and sparkling rose. The Mimosas with fresh squeezed OJ are quite delicious. Elderflower Mocktail & Blueberry Ginger Mocktails (5/5) - Appreciate the handful of mocktail selections on the menu. Both mocktails were refreshing, with a subtle Elderflower flavor and lime juice. While the Blueberry was more subtle with bold ginger. I wasn't a big fan of the Blueberry Porch Swing Cocktail (not that balanced) and enjoyed the boozy Mint Julep cocktail with a mountain of ice, it was refreshing and helped to dilute the booze. Eggplant Parm - So glad they replaced the Eggplant Parm Sandwich with the entree served with broccolini. It was tender and juicy! Mafalde (5/5) - The frilly pasta is cooked al dente and covered in a light cream mushroom sauce with a heap of mushrooms. If you love mushrooms, get it! Lemon Agnolotti (5/5) - The ravioli like stuffed pasta filled with ricotta had a nice citrus lemon flavor paired well with a sweet sauce with grilled radicchio, cabbage, and crunchy pistachios. The blend of ingredients worked well and the veggies elevated the flavor. Unique dish fun to try! Gnocchi (5/5) - Pillowy soft with fresh pesto was a bundle of joy mixed into a veggie medley of arugula, peas, asparagus and topped with crunchy walnuts and sharp pecorino cheese. Complementary flavors that blended well together with a heap of veggies and smaller pasta portion. Highly recommend! Penne a la Vodka (4/5) - The penne a la Vodka had good flavor, just a spicy kick! I wish it came with a breadstick or a side salad. Salmon (4/5) - My hubby enjoyed the fresh caught Salmon that's served like a stew with brocolini and chick peas. While the stew was an interesting take on the Tiramisu (5/5) - Served traditionally like pudding in a glass cup was a sweet ending to our meal. Apple Crisp (4/5) - Hit the spot, like a warm slice of apple pie topped with crunchy oats and a scoop of vanilla gelato. The small scoop wasn't enough, asked for another scoop and got charged an extra $3 for it! The patio seating is perfect for people watching and we caught glimpse of the sunset. Excited to come back and explore other dishes on the menu!
Looking for an Italian eatery in the Fairfax Mosaic District with good wine and spirits, check out Alta Strada. My first visit was in another location in the DC downtown area, inside the Canopy Hilton. The Waitstaff, Host and Bartenders were all pleasant. The menu is simple with traditional entrees and appetizers. Spacious, plenty of natural light and inviting. Try the World Famous garlic bread, really good.
Came here for drinks and dessert on a weekend evening. Lovely outdoor seating and atmosphere. Tiramisu was excellent and reasonably sized. Cocktails were delicious too. Some of the entrees and drinks are on the more expensive side.
It was ok. We came for DC winter restaurant as a place we hadn't tried. The ambiance was lively. The hosts were not helpful or engaging when I said I was there to meet my wife that arrived earlier. They just stared at each other like I spoke another language. The waiter was pleasant, quick and attentive. The seating seemed staged for the maximum number of of people the could put in the space and the gentleman sitting behind me both struggled to seat comfortably as we were both tall. They brought out a bottle of of spring water and bread - both as extra costs writtten in fine print. The food was ok, competently prepared and plated. We ordered calamari, meatballs, lasagna and rockfish. All were delivered hot and were good. We finished with the cannoli and tiramisu. Both were also good.
Coming back from Europe, we wanted something to bring us back to those missed flavors. We visited Alta Strada back in 2023. We started with garlic bread and meatballs, both Amazing! We all got different entrees but all were delicious! Although it wasnt the same as Italy, we lived the experience and effort here! Def try them out!
Friendly service- we asked the waiter for recommendations and he was very good at pointing out the popular dishes. Garlic bread: 5/5 you can really taste the butter and cheese. It came out perfectly hot and toasted. Spaghetti with meatballs: 3.5/5 the meatballs tasted like they were made in house but a bit gamey, not very juicy. The spaghetti was a little dry although the sauce tasted fresh.
Had a lunch date at Alta Strada. Food was really good but just wish the lunch menu had a little more options. Our server was great and had good wine suggestions. Would definitely like to go back for dinner
A really good choice in the new trendy Mosaic district of Fairfax! The rigatoni with the spicy sausage is really good and not too hot, and the lasagna bolognese was also excellent. We had a fire waiter at well
We went here for happy hour and I have to say that the happy hour deals are great! It's 4-7 (it says 4-6 on their blackboard in the restaurant and 4-7 online) at the bar only. It's $8 wines, $5 draft beer, $4 well liquor, and $8-$14 apps and side pastas. We had Jason as our bartender/server and he was so awesome. Quick, funny, and charismatic! He gave recommendations and clearly knew his stuff. I do feel bad as he was both hosting and bartending, but he seemed quite experienced so I'm sure it worked out. But let's get to the food... the food is good! Not the best Italian I've ever had, but for the price, it's very good. Not pictured (I forgot... I was too hungry to let the phone eat first) is the vodka penne. The vodka sauce was great and the side portion honestly was so filling and I don't think I could've eaten anymore! The calamari was good (according to my boyfriend) and the meatballs weren't too shabby. I don't know if they make the pasta from scratch but I don't think they do? And that's why my review is 4 instead of 5 stars. The drinks were great and I liked the house wines! For $8 I'll take it. The vibes were good and the restaurant was clean! I'd come back for happy hour again.
I have to say that I had a pleasantly wonderful dinner at Alta Strada with some co-workers. Their cocktail menu is filled with well balanced beverages that aren't too heavy on the alcohol but also not solidly sweet where you feel like you're drinking juice. I ordered the chicken penne Al la vodka (very good) and we had fried calamari and bread as appetizers. Highly recommended tiramisu for dessert. The fried doughnuts were light and coated with sugar but I didn't care too much for it. Service was really good as well. Our waitress gave us all her top recommendations and came back with Parmesan and water refills. The environment is pretty casual but nice for a business casual attire as well.
Located in Mosaic Fairfax, Alta Strada is a modern Italian restaurant that offers delicious pasta and dessert. We came here for a date night. Service was attentive and fast. We tried the fried calamari, Penne Alla Vodka and the Tagliatelle, they were flavorful. The tiramisu was great. Only thing is the price, it adds up quickly and one may not leave the restaurant with a full belly. Will recommend for special occasion but not a regular dinner venue.
The perfect Italian spot on the outskirts of DC with excellent food and even better wine! The pasta was not just cooked to perfection, it was just finger licking good. The apps were tasty and freshly made. All the pastas are handmade and fresh. I highly recommend this restaurant! PS: You can park your car at the target garage parking for free
Ordered takeout for winter restaurant week. I've had decent experiences since my last review, nothing enough to make me lower my review until now. Some pieces we ordered were good, but the entree I had was incredibly disappointing. There is zero sauce included in my pasta, only a spoonful of meat. It is dry, barely meat, no sauce. I will say that my boyfriends anglotti was very good. The scampi and garlic bread were flavorful. But, my meatballs were cold on the inside, but warm in the outside. At this point I would not recommend. read more

First time here. We were looking for a place to eat on a Friday around 6 pm and randomly chose this spot while walking through Mosaic District. I'm glad we did because it was a great experience. We opted to sit outside since the sun was still out and there was a soccer event being screened nearby. We started with a 3-drink combination of Spritz, which was one of the best drinks I've had. For dinner, we ordered the Chicken Parm, Grilled Spanish Octopus, and Bucatini "Frutti Di Mare." All three dishes were excellent. The waitress was very friendly, and we had a great conversation with her. Two managers also came by to check on us and ask if we enjoyed the Bucatini since it was new on their summer menu. They really care about customer feedback. 10/10 highly recommended and will return. read more
My friends and I came here for a happy hour and we left so satisfied!! They have happy hour daily from 4pm-6pm and have great food and drink deals. We each got a white wine sangria to start off with and they were delicious, I am not much of a wine person - but that sangria was yummy!! To start off with, we got the Alta Strada's World Famous Garlic Bread which was perfectly fluffy and flavored - it comes with a tomato-basil sauce which simply elevates the garlic bread. To eat, we split a margherita pizza and penne a la vodka - which were both delicious. They have generous portion sizes so these items were plenty for the three of us. We were too full for dessert, but will definitely come back again! The service was amazing, even though they were busy. There is also parking garages in this area so parking was not an issue at all. A tasty spot to grab some Italian food! It's a cozy spot that just invites you to keep eating more pasta. Tiger Prawn Scampi - the sauce alone was worth it Truffle Mushroom - a light truffle dish and the mushroom was delicious Buratta Proscuitto - you can never go wrong with a good buratta! Spring Vegetable Gnocchi - Loved the spring flavors and the gnocchi was so fluffy! Chicken Parm - cristy and delicious chicken! It went perfectly with the pastas Tagliatelle Bolognese - the dish of the night! A simple pasta executed to perfection! Tiramisu - I wish I had ordered a second! It was a light texture and flavor that had me begging for more. Bombolino - The chocolate sauce is where it's at! It's perfect for date night, or just catching up with friends. Great ambiance and atmosphere with the outdoor seating. Food was perfectly heated and filling without the pasta. The Saratoga bottled water tasted good too as opposed to the tap. Great food! I loved the wild boar pasta and I tasted my friend's lasagna and that was really good too! Both were very generous portions. There is no complimentary bread, so we ordered the focaccia with whipped ricotta. It was good! Our server was attentive and they accommodated us when we wanted to move away from the door (cold draft). It took awhile for our food to come out, but we were happy when it finally did! There a lot of restaurants in Mosaic, but this one is probably one of my favorites. If you're craving good Italian food in a lively busy place, come here! read more
This place has some really good Italian pasta!!! We had their vodka pasta with chicken and it was amazing. Probably one of the best vodka pastas I've had in a while! The waiter was also very attentive and the restaurant was decorated so cute for the holidays! If you're in the Mosaic area I would recommend trying this place out! read more

The food came out very fast and hot. A good dinner spot for a date or family outing. I didn't think the pasta or sauce was anything spectacular. The rigatoni had a good amount of sausage but the sauce was just a little too watery for my preference. I definitely wish it was a little thicker and more flavorful. The waitress was attentive and they had parmesan in a bowl for the pasta. Honestly tasted like Cheesecake Factory but smaller portions and more expensive. My sister got the spaghetti which was a lot bigger portion and was better. The Brussels sprouts were pretty good very oiled calamari was just normal. read more

Our service was such a great experience! We trusted our waiter in his opinion and we're confident we ordered one of the best dishes this restaurant can offer. We came almost to closing time but we did not feel rushed. We ordered the app Prosciutto di Parma with Fig Jam and their mussel entree and you gotta have some wine with this! I gotta say that appetizer was soooo good. One of my favorite dishes! You get a combo of different flavors in one bite. I have not tasted anything like this and thats what I love about this place. I feel like this place does not get enough hype and word of mouth in Mosaic. I would highly recommend this place for your Italian cravings! read more

Met a friend for dinner. We sat at the bar, Kevin the bartender is awesome! We chose off the Restaurant Week menu and everything was great. Only thing that was not on point was the thickness of the chicken breast in the chicken parm was too thick which made for a tough bite. My friend had the penne a la vodka and was completely pleased. Flavors were very good from the pre dinner cocktail espresso martini to the after dinner desserts. The cannoli filling was so tasty, gelato and tiramisu oh my yum!! read more

Our service was great. The waitress was attentive. The food came out in a timely manner. We tried both bruschettas of the day. My favorite was the cod fish. It reminded me of eating salt fish back in the Caribbean. Our meals were good as well. I tried the Penne a la Vodka with shrimp. It was plentiful with shrimp and a-little spicy. I wish the menu would have said that. It's not unbearable spicy but I needed to drink my water frequently while eating. The Baked Ziti was yummy per my friend. Another friend tried the Lasagna Bolognese and he didn't like it. It lacked flavor. Our server switched it out for another meal with no hesitation. We had a great experience. 9/2/23 - We went for Restaurant Week and had a FANTASTIC 3-course dinner from start to finish!! Everything was perfectly cooked and perfectly seasoned!! Our server, Julia, took wonderful care of us ensuring that our experience was nothing short of perfect! She took the time to explain anything we had a question with. We will try again for dinner next time for sure! Because I was a bit disappointed with the lunch menu which has no dishes we wanted. The server was friendly and explained the menu to us. My husband ordered rib and it was tasted good but was pretty salty; my dish was farmers omelette. I liked the mushrooms and the sausage. It was very spacey and good for family friends gatherings. read more
Ordered online and called in to ask if I could have an alteration to a menu item that has never been a problem whenever I dined in. In fact it was originally recommended by a server? They said it wasn't possible, which was a lie-- but I didn't want to argue with them since it's not really a hosts job to go out of their way to talk to the kitchen. When my order arrived the pasta was dry and bland. I was missing half of my order and the thing I was looking forward to most (the garlic bread) was ofcourse, not there. Not sure if the driver took it or if the restaurant forgot it. But the bag was wide open which is upsetting that they don't take any safety precautions against potential theft like other establishments that have safety stickers to keep their bags enclosed. I'd like to believe the driver didn't take it as his service was speedy and quick. But this restaurant definitely needs to do more quality checks especially when it comes to making sure pick up orders have everything inside, especially for the price they expect you to pay. It's the bare minimum and honestly just embarrassing at this point. read more

The waiter is very nice and attentive - their world famous garlic bread is honestly alright. - we thought the shrimp scampi was a pasta but it's just shrimp/cherry tomatoes with bread - my Tagliatelle Bolognese was pretty good! Was on the salty side so I had to drink so much water. Very filling. I gave half of my pasta to my boyfriend since he got the shrimp scampi. read more
I came here with my family when my brother recommended it. When coning in, the place seemed full so I would imagine that the food would be good. We sat down and ordered apps first. The menu was pretty sparse probably due to COVID but we ordered the burrata and the mussels. They both were great and loved the apps. Then we ordered our entrees as we were excited for what was in store. I got the chicken parm, my mom got the eggplant parm, and my brother got the tagliatelle. Both the eggplant parm and the chicken parm needed a lot more seasoning. It gave me crispy boiled chicken/eggplant flavors which were not exciting. My brother's dish on the other hand was a tad salty. Ultimately, we preferred the appetizers more. We ordered the Bianca pizza with arugula and mushrooms to finish the main courses and that was amazing. Finally, we ordered a tiramisu and that did not disappoint. Overall, I would probably come again and only get the appetizers. read more

Ordered online and literally received a children's sized portion of food. I'm actually very shocked because if I didn't add chicken (which is extra) this is literally such a small amount of food. I haven't been able to get my money back which is just making me more upset??? read more
Good speedy service, but too pricey food at this Italian restaurant in Mosaic District. The Chicken Parm and the Zuchini/Eggplant Parm were both underwhelming. My daughter found the grilled octopus to be overly salty (almost like a super-salt aftertaste), aside from not caring for the spicy pepper sauce it came with. Again, we loved our server, and the kid who kept refilling our water. read more
Came here for a friends birthday dinner with a party of about 12-15! Mosaic is always poppin and especially with restaurant week deals flooding around, this spot was quite busy! I decided to order the baked ziti without meat. I've always loved a good baked ziti pasta so was very much so looking forward to this!!! All my friends got their meals before me which makes sense - we were a large party and I ordered a pretty complex dish. When my first dish arrived I was so disappointed - the pasta was undercooked to the point where it took effort to chew the pasta. Thankfully the staff handled that professionally and maturly! Our waiter told me he will bring me a new baked ziti and it will be brought pretty immediately. When i got my new dish the pasta was perfect but there was barely any sauce!!! it was pretty bland unfortunately. I was however able to try the mushroom ravioli and vodka pasta. I must say the vodka pasta is delicious! i wish i ordered that because it was saucy with good sauce to pasta ratio. the mushroom ravioli was watered down as well - could barely taste the sauce so lacked in flavor For the food - sub par and average based off baked ziti dish. definitely avoid it especially if you are vegetarian. just get the vodka pasta - id return just for that!!! I'm a fan!!! The chicken parm was SO YUMMY... it surprisingly doesn't come with the spaghetti but you can add it on as a side... haha, I wasn't prepared for how GINORMOUS it was, but SO delicious and I had leftovers, so that was awesome! The limoncello cocktail is SO TASTY. Our server told us they use their own house made thyme simple syrup...yummm! It's also in such a cool spot that's super family friendly and there's free parking close. read more
Recently visited for dinner on a Friday and tried the Lamb Osso Bucco. It was one of the best dishes I've tried and the saffron orzo with parmesan cheese was so decadent; I could've eaten a whole bowl of it. The service as usual is top notch and very attentive. The manager is great too! read more
Went in and got menu for restaurant week. It was $35/person for an appetizer, entree, and dessert. I was impressed by the appetizer and how delicious the classic shrimp scampi was. However, the entree was the complete opposite. The pasta was way overcooked and bland. The dessert was pretty good too with tiramisu being the best out of the three. Not sure if I want to come back here again because of their less than average pasta... and I'm pretty sure their entrees aren't on the cheaper side. read more
I love getting pasta here. Haven't had a mediocre dish yet (knock on wood). My favorite so far is their bolognese. And they have half off wine bottles of Wed! Also, they implement sanitary hygienic practices due to COVID and also has outdoor seating. read more
We wanted Italian for dinner and wanted to get delivery on a Sunday and came up with Alta Strada (via 3rd party). Was worried about temperature since it was a little further but was fine. We really enjoyed our whole meal. Brocolli wasn't exciting but we wanted to have some vegetables. Had rigatoni bolognese, cacio de pepe, and meatballs. The meatballs come in a sauce which would have been perfect to dip some crusty bread in. Simple, tasty and a decent price. Recommended! read more

After hearing rave reviews from friends, we decided to give this place a try, and our experience surpassed all expectations. From the warm welcome to the delectable dishes and impeccable service, every aspect of our visit was a testament to the restaurant's commitment to excellence. As we arrived at Alta Strada this evening, the hostess greeted us with a genuine smile, making us feel instantly at home. Despite not having a reservation, she accommodated our request to sit outside on the patio, allowing us to bask in the glorious weather (I would however recommend to reserve a table in advance as this place gets busy). The staff's attentiveness and warmth continued throughout the evening, creating a welcoming and relaxed atmosphere that set the stage for an unforgettable experience. Our server, Nicole, went above and beyond to ensure our dining experience was exceptional. Her recommendations for celebratory drinks were spot on, and to our delight, she surprised us with complimentary champagne, raising a toast to our reunion after 17 long years. Came here with a friend one weekend evening (reservation was made). I remember it being quite busy and crowded near the host stand, guessing it must be a popular spot. We were seated at a 2-seater table. I liked that they had several Mocktails to choose from, so I ordered one - got the Rosemary Mint Lemonade and it was delicious. My friend had the Blueberry & Ginger Soda and enjoyed their drink as well. For my Entree, I got the Seared Salmon dish with (per their menu) sugar snap peas, white bean, spinach, walnut basil pesto. When the dish arrived, it looked like a piece of salmon on a sea of green covering the who plate. The Salmon was cooked fine, but I wasn't a fan of the beans and pesto - I actually left a lot of that on my plate. Service was great - I would love to come back to try one of their desserts and definitely another dish. I still enjoyed my visit. read more

Service was a bit slow, especially for an 8:30pm dinner. The cocktails were very watered down and lacked flavor. The meal was alright but likely won't return. When our waitress asked how was everything we said none of it was that great and she stated she was sorry. read more

They are also one of the fews that have plenty of reservations available that night. Overall, I think the pasta here are just alright, nothing too special. There are better Italian places in DC. - Famous Garlic Bread [GET]: Garlic bread was phenomenal, toasted to perfection with a good amount of garlic seasoning coated on top. It was amazing, extremely crispy on the outer layer. Each bite was crunchy AF. The pro tip is to let the garlic bread sit in the spicy tomato sauce for a bit and let it soak in the sauce before you start devouring it. It's a game changer, the garlic bread was so much more flavorful. - Penne Alla Vodka [GET]: Penne pasta cooked perfectly in a well-seasoned creamy vodka sauce with fresh basil and parmigiano. Pasta was al dente and chewy. The creamy vodka sauce wasn't too heavy with a perfect amount of coating on top, pretty good. - Tagliatelle [GET]: Tagliatelle pasta cooked in bolognese ragu and topped with parmigiano. Pasta was packed with flavors. The ragu was meaty and tasted homey, such a comfort food for me. Bolognese ragu is fresh and saucy, but not too soupy. I just wished that the pasta was a bit slightly more chewier, and a little bit less salty, then it would be a great pasta dish. - Tiramisu [GET]: This is my favorite dessert, because who doesn't love a fluffy coffee-infused goodness. I love the texture. I can taste the delicate layer of ladyfingers soaked in espresso and topped with a creamy and thick layer of mascarpone cream. I just wished there was more cocoa powder on top to balance out the sweetness. It was definitely on the sweeter side, quite heavy for one person, so please share. Ambiance: 4.5/5 - Located in the Mosaic district with plenty of other restaurants and local shops. Walking in, the ambiance is really nice and highly maintenance, dimly-lit but spacious too. There is some sort of a European vibes, cute and subtle but with a fancy twist. We sat at the window, and I love the view from the outside. I was able to see the Christmas tree, and all the kids outside in the area playing and enjoying the holidays. Love it, and definitely a great place for dates. Price: 3.75/5 - The total was $70 after tax and tip for my friend and I. We got the famous garlic bread for $7 as starter, the penne alla vodka for $19, tagliatelle for $21, and finally the tiramisu for $10. Solid dinner for us in Mosaic and portion size was good, but definitely can get better pasta in DC for the same price though. Service: 4/5 - Staffs are professional and friendly. We were greeted as soon as we walked in, and they sat us at the cocktail bar, while we wait for our tables to get ready. Our server was super. Took our orders and was able to refill our water promptly. Food also came out relatively quick and hot, despite them being a bit busy on NYE night. BLUF: A good place for Italian pasta if you are in the Mosaic district looking for a causal meal. Nice ambiance, great location and service, and amazing staffs. I'd recommend the famous garlic bread and the tagliatelle bolognese. The tiramisu was just average, definitely had better ones. read more

Not super happy with my order from here for dinner. For the price I expect to be getting some amazing pasta. I ordered fettuccine mushroom thinking it would have a creamy sauce. This pasta is just oily and garlicky and served with a little cheese and mushroom. Really not my idea of a great pasta, wouldn't try again. read more

Would give 3.5 stars if I could. I have frequented Alta Strada many times as I live nearby. I recall going around the time they opened and wishing their portions were larger. Good news is they are but the notsogood news is that the pasta while good is still a bit underwhelming for the price point. There are some other restaurants that I prefer over this one that have comparable costs. Alta Strada does, however, temporarily satisfy my yen for Italian until I hit one of my faves. This trip, I ordered the Fedelini Cacio e Pepe and added on chicken. It was a bit too peppery for me, but I get a "sweat stache" (as I so lovingly call it) eating mild salsa so take that opinion with a grain of salt. You can certainly taste the quality of the ingredients and my chicken was cooked well. I looked over to my partner's Giant Chicken Parm with a side order of Spaghetti AOP and thought that it could've definitely fed the both of us. The chicken was cooked to perfection - moist with a small crunch - but because I'm not much of a red sauce person I skipped trying the pasta. He LOVED his dish and had the leftovers as a second meal. If you're dining on a budget - this is the dish for you! Overall, the experience was so-so. Being a spoiled American and carb fiend, I wished that there was free bread for the table, but alas there was not. The server checked on us frequently, however did not ask clarifying questions and had to return often to understand our requests. This wouldn't be such a big deal but it was obvious to our party of four that she did not understand what we were asking before she left. She did make good recommendations and a good call by telling us the chicken parm did not come with pasta. At any rate, I am sure I will be back when another Italian craving hits and I don't want to stray too far from home. read more

Yes. There is a F&B minimum depending on how much of the restaurant reserved. There is no private space though.
How is the happy hour? Is there a happy hour specials?
While I wasn't there for happy hour the bartender and bar were fully stocked and ready for anything!
Does this restaurant make you feel happy and comfortable?
Yes, always happy and comfortable especially in Deanna's section or on the bar with Rita! Outstanding service! Love the food too!
