John Roach and his skilled roofing crew at Alta-Cal Roofing did a complete tear-off, sheathing, dual layer felt, and installation on 5200 sq. feet of shakes on our ranch-style house in Salinas, off of San Benancio. I asked for them to install a synthetic shake called Brava Shake out of Iowa... once the product arrived on site, they got it quickly and expertly installed. The Brava shake looks like traditional heavy wood old-growth cedar shakes, but has a Class A fire rating, and class 4 impact resistance from hail, etc. It has a huge impact on curb-appeal... don't go with some cheap asphalt tab shingle on your million dollar house! We also had them install color-keyed seamless gutters and downspouts, which look great and actually work now! One of the gutter runs on our house was almost 50 ft. long.... their machine rolled the gutter onsite, and four men walked it up and into position.... no seams in that whole length! One other thing, they were quite willing to work us on other upgrades we chose, including the installation of 5 Velux low-profile Sun-Tunnel skylights.... what a huge difference those lights make on the interior!! The crew arrived every day on time, and cleaned up after themselves. They also provided a porta-potty for their workers which worked out well. All in I give them a 5 star rating, and would highly recommend Alta-Cal if you are looking for a quality roofing project. Check out the Brava shakes and slate products... Introduced to John through a mutual friend and once we got the desired color of the roof finalized. He got his crew onto the project and got it done very quickly. He kept us informed of how much they had done by sending photos everyday till completion. This was a nice added feature since he was re-rooofing a rental unit and eliminated the need to drive out there on a regular basis. My property managers would check on the status every other day as well and keep me informed. They were impressed at how fast his crew worked and when they saw the end results they were impressed. I look forward in seeing the new roof in person in a few weeks, when we have time to go to Hollister to see it. Alta-Cal installed a Brava slate roof on our house. They did a complete tear off and replaced some skip sheathing. Our roof is quite complicated with several different slopes and valleys. The original roof was installed and then eaves installed over the top of the roofing making it impossible to duplicate.
