Staff were condescending and refused to help me, laughing when I asked about a specific specialty tool to help in a saw rebuild I'm currently undertaking. I wish there was a different place in Redding area to get saw advice/help, this store is full of clowns. All their non-STIHL Mainbrand Products are all extremely overpriced also, one could only surmise they must be trying to make up for their lack of sales for some reason or other.. The entire exchange left me so dumbfounded at the sheer lack of customer hospitality I couldn't help but laugh as I walked out the store. Al's Saw Shop price was identical, amazing, so I drove right down and Ryan installed it in 2 minutes for free and gave me a discount for using cash. Can't beat that for service. read more

Knowledgeable and friendly. I had my Craftsman push lawn mower serviced there and gave accurate expectations for turnaround time and accurate estimates for the work done. It was a $40 charge for diagnosis and up to a half hour of work, and then they call you to go over the estimate and final cost with you once they're done with the diagnosis. read more

Sadly, I was VERY DISAPPOINTED with this local business. I had always wanted my own chainsaw, and had heard good things about Al's and the STIHL brand. I decided to support our local business, and went in to buy a saw. They were friendly and helpful at first. The problem started when I showed a picture of the tree I needed cut down and was sold a STIHL MS250. I used it once, and realized it was not the right saw for the job. I had the saw for 3 days and had run less than a full tank through it. The STIHL website provided a 100% satisfaction guarantee, and stated to return it within 7 days and exchange it for a STIHL product that better meets your needs. I went back to Al's Saw Shop, and explained that I used the saw once and that although it ran fine, it was just not the saw for the job and I wanted to exchange it for something more powerful. I wanted to give them more money! I was told that they would NOT honor the STIHL guarantee because it had been used and they could not sell it as new. I contacted STIHL directly and was advised that the company offers the 7 day exchange for their customers and although they hoped the dealer would "do the right thing" and honor the exchange policy, it was up to the individual business. Brian at STIHL told me he couldn't understand why they wouldn't exchange it if it hadn't been damaged. He was willing to talk with the business, but by this time I had already left Al's and didn't see them changing their minds. The overall experience at Al's Saw Shop was as bad as buying a something from a tweeker on Craigslist. I had expected better customer service and support from a licensed STIHL dealer. So much for supporting local business. I won't shop there again, and can't recommend anyone else shop there. Do yourself a favor and buy a HUSQVARNA from Lowe's with the comfort of knowing you have a 30 day, no questions asked return/exchange policy if something goes wrong. These machines are expensive, don't get stuck with the wrong one like I did. read more

They do saws (and blowers and mowers). Experts. Pull right up in front, walk in, state your dilemma, immediate help: No getting overwhelmed in a big box store. Shop local! AND: They undersold me. I would have spent more, but they suggested I check out my new weed eater set up and then see if I wanted the extra attachment. Four year warranty. They also sharpened my lawn mower blade for $10 and I can literally cut paper with it. Yes: really. Before I put it back on the mower, I sliced through a piece of paper--so cool! Apparently I'm weird like that. My dad has used them for years, and now they're my new best friends, too. read more

I needed to find my nearest Stihl dealer to replace a part on my trimmer, and it turned out to be Al's Saw Shop. The parking lot was empty, but a loud screaming sound of a chainsaw was coming from the back and I knew I was in the right place. Walking in the front door, I noticed this place is full of small engine machines, many bright orange. The worker at the front desk helped me right away, and looked up my info on the computer, even though I bought the trimmer from a different dealer. I was in the system and the part was under warranty and given to me without charge. Perfect. The little extra you have to pay to get Stihl, and other quality power tools is well worth it. They make work easier, and you get great service from the dealers such as Al's Saw Shop. read more

This shop is now a lot more than a mom/pop shop. Yet I got mom/pop service from them when I turned in an obnoxious, stubborn-to-start Toro mower. I can change oil and the air filter but the rest I'd rather someone knowledgeable take care of. They did for a reasonable price and on time. read more

Unfortunately after my last visit I'm very disappointed with Al's service and customer support. I had a handheld blower that sucked up about 6" of string from my basketball shorts and quick working. I knew it had to be bound up in the fan area around the crank. Being that I don't work on small engine equipment I didn't want to make things worse, so I figured to take it down to be done right. After explaining exactly what the issue was ( so the problem did not need to be diagnosed) I assumed it would be a quick and easy job for them. They took a $40 deposit and I stressed I didn't want it to be any more than that or otherwise that would go to a NEW blower. I then received a call 4 days later as they said, but I don't answer calls for the heavy spam that is around, but they didn't even leave a voicemail. So I called after checking the number was actually Al's about 2-3 hours later, to find out that the tech said it was going to be at least $80 to repair without any new parts because it would take over 1 hour at the least. I then explained that wouldn't work for me and they then didn't want to give me back my deposit. After a few explanations they agreed to return my deposit and allow me to pick up the blower as I then did. I decided to give an attempt at fixing the blower myself as I got home. And come to find out it was much MUCH easier than I had presumed it would be. It took me just 15 minutes at the very most to complete the entire task of disassembly, untangle the cord, and then reassemble. And just like that she started up just as it did before. My big issue here is that if my grandmother had dealt with this problem she would have felt compelled to believe this well known shop for their "WORD" which was a complete exaggeration of the complexity of the issue, and just take advantage of someone which is completely greedy and unnecessary. Not trying to bash a long-standing local business, but just felt obligated to share my experience. read more

If I could give six stars, I would. Brought in a Stihl whose bar I was sure I'd nicked with a wire and asked for a new one, but the great serviceman jimmied off the jammed chain, checked it and the bar out, put it back on, and told us we didn't need a new one--it had just been stuck, no damage--and no charge for the diagnosis and quick-fix. Since my previous review my wife and I have purchased two chainsaws from Al's. We bought the 261 and the 193T. They compliment our 362 quite well. We recommend all of these saws. We have used these saws to do tree work on our property and to help family, neighbors, and the community. Our next saw will likely be the 461R or maybe the 500i. I brought a generator to this place for service and requested they rebuild the carburetor and bring it back to good running condition. After 3 weeks they said it was ready to pickup. After an $80 charge, I brought it home to find that it did not work, under a load it dropped speed and voltage. They charged me $80 to spray some carb cleaner and send it home. I was very disappointed. I took it back and after another 3 weeks they said they can't get parts and "we're done with this machine". I picked it up, broken just as I originally left it. These guys don't know what they are doing and should not be in business. read more

Place is always very busy because all the professional loggers and arborists prefer Al's. I cut 7 cords of wood a year heating my home and in the 20 years I've been in Shasta county Al's is the only place that consistently has helped me with my saws and known what they were doing. After the area was devastated by a recent snowstorm there was no power for almost a week and they kept the shop open with flashlights just to make sure all the customers get the saws and chains they needed just to survive. read more

I have a new chainsaw that I bought out of town. Not a brand that they carry at Al's. My chainsaw needed servicing, or so I thought. From the moment I walked in the door, I was greeted properly, even with several customers lingering. The gentleman was able to help me with my dilemma as it did not need servicing, but just a miner readjustment (As I tried servicing it myself). I bought my saw from these people about 10 years ago, a very nice Stile. Last spring I took it in to Als and for around 250 dollars they supposedly overhauled it. I din't use the saw all summer because of fire danger. (We live in the forest). Once the weather cooled off I was able to do some long awaited clearing. The first thing I noticed was that sometimes the pull cord would come out about 15 inches and STOP, nearly breaking my hand, then not recoiling. The dog fell off, The back housing on the saw became loose as if it wants to separate from the front housing. This all within 1/2 hour of the first time it had run. I took it into the shop and the rather rude counter man promptly informed me that it would be nearly $100.00 to look at it. NO customer service, no understanding that a poor job was done on this saw. I won't go there again, there are plenty of places around that will stand behind their work. All they want is your money money money. read more

Really Great Service!! I took a troublesome power washer in for repair expecting to wait weeks for the job to be done. It was completed overnight at a VERY reasonable price. Not only did they complete the repairs but they cleaned the unit and put air in the tires!! That's going the extra mile!! Do not, DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE!! The employees are so rude. Not only were they rude to me but an elderly woman was at the counter next to me and the woman behind the counter was so incredibly rude to her I could not even believe it! Took my lawn mower in May to get fixed after a month the same problem happens again. They did not stand behind their work and charged me again for what they supposedly fixed a month ago. When I asked about why the same thing was getting fixed a month later they tried to feed me some bs about the gas I was using, when the problem had nothing to do with the gas at all. They later admitted that it was not a gas problem only after me going round and round with them that it was not a gas related problem and in the service notes it had nothing to do with the gas. If you want your equipment fixed right the first time and appreciate good customer service then this place is not for you! Save your time and your money, DON'T GO HERE! read more

BEWARE! of being overcharged if your a women. We have now invested almost $300.00 on a walk behind lawn more based on being told that it was worth fixing because it was a Toro key start. We used it twice and then it wouldn't start, so we took it back and they are charging another $52.00 because they say there was trash in the gas tank. Since we only use a plastic gas can I can't see how they blame us for this especially since we have only used this mower twice. We told them that the mower had been in storage for a long time. It did run good on the days it was used, but then it set due to the weather for several weeks. Oh! and we had to purchase a changer at $42.00 since we can't find our starter. So in all we are now at around $400.00 invested in I believe a 2006 mower. VERY DISAPOINTED read more

I would agree with the other reviews in regards to Al's Saw Shop and their customer service. Brandon is very friendly. But unfortunately I will never do business with them again because of a recent experience I had there. I bought a Stihl saw from the shop that was on consignment. Coming from a Chainsaw shop that had a good reputation I didn't think anything of it. I was so confident with their work, I didn't even start the saw before I bought it. The first time I went to use the saw, the killswitch didn't kill the saw. I took it back to Al's and they apologized and said they'd work on it, no charge. But then it happened again, took it back, they "fixed it" again. The very next time I tried the saw, the killswitch would still not work! It's just a ground wire, how hard could it be? When I went back to the shop demanding a refund, they explained to be that it was no guarantee. I would understand that but when the saw just was repaired BEFORE it was put on their shelf, you'd think they'd stand behind their previous work. I ended up taking the saw back to their shop twice and I still had problems. This simple fix turned into them losing a customer forever. The saw is now at Quality Saw Shop in Anderson. read more
