We stopped here for a late lunch on the drive from Breck to Denver. The menu offers a bunch of types of meat sandwiches, burgers and meat plates. These included brisket, pulled pork, chicken, elk, bison, bratwurst, ribs, turkey legs and sides like baked beans, coleslaw, corn on the cob and chips. My husband ordered a brisket sandwich for $8 while I tried the pulled pork (also $8). Most sandwiches were $8 or less and a "hungry man's plate" with a few types of meat and a side was just $10. Our original plan was to share/split sandwiches, however we each inhaled ours so fast that sharing was not gonna happen. My pulled pork was super juicy and not fatty at all. Ditto for the piece of brisket meat that fell out of my husband's sandwich that I was able to taste - perfectly tender and moist. We both loved the bread. It was soft with a slight chew like a very puffy baguette, not crumbly like a burger bun. It was able to wrap around the big pile of meat on both our sandwiches and hold everything in, even though juices were dripping through. Very tasty! Also not a ginormous portion size which was perfect for me (probably not so much for my hungry husband). The only thing that struck us as odd was their lack of homemade sauces. After we were handed our sandwiches in paper baskets, we were told to sauce them up from a bin holding bottles of Sweet Baby Ray's, Famous Dave's and a couple of other BBQ sauce options. While the meat was already flavorful, smokey and delicious as it came, homemade sauces would have upped the ante a bit and we were surprised not to see any. You can also top your sandwiches with onions, jalapenos and pickles. You can also buy your meats by the pound which was a decent bargain at $12-14. There is picnic style seating inside their "park" both uncovered and covered tables. Don't miss the jerky and fudge being sold just down the road!

Excellent BBQ, sauces, sides AND margaritas!…read more We're here in WP for three weeks. This is our second visit to The Smokehouse in the last 10 days. The first time we were disappointed upon arrival when they were out of burnt ends. We're from KCMO and we judge a town's BBQ by their burnt ends. Nonetheless, the brisket, sauces and sides were enough to warrant a second visit. Oh, and that house margarita...chef's kiss! Just what a tired ass mom needs after a long day of "hey moms." On the second visit, I went early at 4PM and ordered carryout. AND a margarita while I waited! The margarita is simple, the perfect size and made with all fresh ingredients. It rivals more notable ones around town. This time, they had ALL the burnt ends and boy, were they worth the wait! I got a one meat platter with burnt ends, collards and Mac n cheese. My husband got a two meat platter with burnt ends, brisket, beans and slaw. We got KC and Texas sauces (they have 5 or 6 to choose from, all inspired by different BBQ regions in the US). Both platters came with cornbread which is the only thing that needs some work IMHO. It's small, dry and not worthy of the calories. But EVERYTHING else was soooo good! Fatty, juicy, flavorful meats. Balanced sauces. And delicious sides! The Mac, collards and beans get an A+, the slaw is a solid B. Service was great on both visits. Friendly, efficient and fast! One thing to note is they have an adorable patio. I've not eaten out there yet but it's well maintained with lots of flowers and good coverage from the sun. Might have to check it out on our third visit!

Love this new BBQ spot in Arvada!…read more This is the "order at the counter" then go find a table style of BBQ joint. We stopped in on Christmas Eve for lunch and the line was super short and there were plenty of tables available. Even after you have picked up your food, employees cruise through the dining area to make sure you have everything you need. Mission is very reasonably priced. Two of us split a 3 Meat Combo with 2 sides, Cornbread & got 2 drinks for about $40. It was a ton of food. Pro Tip: They do not accept credit card tips. If you want to show appreciation for the folks taking your order, bring cash or give them a nice online review. The rib meat falls off the bone. The pulled pork was perfectly smoked. And the non-lean Brisket was perfectly seasoned and deliciously moist. They have sauces from all over the country. I especially enjoyed the KC & Memphis style sauces. This place shows love for Veterans, both in kitschy decor and in donations to veteran support services. The music is patriotic and supports their pro-America theme. There is plenty of parking shared with other restaurants in the shopping center and is walking distance from the Olde Town Arvada RTD station.

To me, complaining about this is like going to TGI Friday's and obsessing over all the kitschty crap stuck to the walls. It's a theme, people. Our service was very, very good. We received solid value for our three meat platter that we split. They had eight different barbecue sauces to choose from, which really impressed me. Six of them sit on every table, plus two other bonus ones. The St. Louis and Texas style sauces were probably my favorites. The brisket was quite good. The pulled pork was nice and the ribs were acceptable. Perhaps just a little overdone. I enjoyed the beans with brisket quite a bit. I'll come here again and think this is a good addition to the barbecue scene in Arvada.
