Visited Al's for the first time after running a 5K at CCC. I was so hungry and this place hit the spot. This is a classic southern diner. Plenty of parking outside and even though this is a smaller size restaurant, there was not a crazy long wait. Al's is everything I want in a diner experience. Very sweet waitresses who do not let your coffee mug get empty. Kind patrons who want to talk to you. I met a sweet lady from Maine here eating breakfast alone. She chatted up my partner and I about running in NC and ME and we learned about her life. The ambiance here was great for enjoying your food (affordable, delicious, quick) and chatting with other people. Also-they have glass bottles of coke and sprite here. I didn't order one, but they were so cute and I will order one next time.

Came back last night & the serving of meatloaf was 1/2 of what you see in this picture. I hate inconsistency in a restaurant.

Made the mistake of trying the "limited time only" lemon pepper chicken wings today. They'd better be limited because they were so dry I could barely choke them down. Seriously, do people ever sample what they sell? I tried the drive thru for the first time ever. I don't know if they offered dipping sauces for the dried up wings, and I didn't ask.

This is a small town restaurant with a big heart for its patrons ! The breakfast menu offered plenty of options! I kept it simple with scrambled eggs and grits . My father opted for one of his favorites- the open chicken biscuit. The service here is TOP TIER! We were greeted upon arrival and the staff came by every 15 minutes or so for coffee and water refills. The OWNER walks the floor regularly to make sure customers are satisfied. The prices are budget friendly and economical. The ambiance offers the style of 50's diner style interior (think Happy Days ) that makes you feel right at home .

Al's is super cute and all of the staff is super upbeat and friendly. They have a daily specials list that always has something yummy. Everything is how grandma would have made it.... So good and with love! Reasonable prices and worth the wait if they are busy. I had the chicken and dumplings special today. I ordered it with low expectations because it's a dish I used to make with my grandparents. I almost cried when I took the first bite. They were so amazing! Tender shredded chicken, homemade dumplings, and the perfect amount of seasoning. Instantly brought me back to my grandmas kitchen. Thank you everyone at Al's!!! Y'all rock! Your Halloween spirit was absolutely fabulous!

I was blown away by how attentive and friendly they were despite being super busy. For the environment, the place felt a bit loud and crowded - which for one was a testament to how well liked it appeared to be (we are visiting from out of state) and how they had to make very creative use of the space as they must cater to so many in a smaller space. It was also clean and quite nostalgic with lots of interesting old time memorabilia - and didn't try to go too cheesy and over the top with the theme though again was a bit too busy and crowded and could have maybe used a more highlighted 'less is more' approach to showcase the ice cream shoppe feel, the old time candy shop ambience, etc. I also loved that there were no tvs to distract from the ppl in front of us, and though time period music would be fun, it might have made it even too much louder. I appreciated very much that they seemed to want ppl to talk and enjoy the company in front of them. The fried pickles app was really good, and the dreamsicle style shake and curly fries - sooo delicious! The ice cream concoctions we didn't try, but saw delivered all around us were huge and fun and looked so good! The BLT was a bit dry and could have used a good mayo or sauce, and my sister's Hawaiian chicken didn't have the Hawaiian bun but it was unique and still not bad. Though with the soda shoppe name I had hoped for more unique or home made soda concoctions or offerings. Overall though- the food was mostly really really good; it seemed cute and beloved and very popular with the town; and there was a clear pride in the place - and very apparent love and appreciation of the customers by the staff which was number one in what I saw and was very impressed by. They just need and deserve a bigger space!

We were going out for a big dinner later so this was suppose to be a small lunch. My wife ordered a cup of soup. I ordered a bowl of brunswick soup and a grilled pimento cheese sandwich. I could not finish the soup as the bowl was large and amount of meat in it was abundit. My grilled cheese was wonderful, I love pimento cheese. Unfortunately we could not try any of the soda or ice cream products this trip. The service is great and friendly. Restrooms are restored old school design. We ordered the supreme pizza, and when it arrived, it looked and tasted completely undercooked, doughy crust, barely melted cheese, and sad toppings. The vegetables were just large, unappetizing chunks of bell pepper and onion, with canned mushrooms and cheap-tasting meat that reminded us of Domino's (not in a good way). Even the cheese left that same powdery aftertaste definitely not fresh mozzarella. The supposed wood-fired crust had no char, no crisp, nothing to suggest a proper wood-fired oven was used, or if it was, they clearly don't know how to use it. We sat outside by the band hoping for a pleasant atmosphere, but it was anything but. Despite multiple "No Smoking" signs, there were people smoking all around the patio, and staff did nothing about it. If a restaurant can't enforce basic rules, it raises questions about the standards they hold in the kitchen as well. At this point, we're done giving second chances. It's time to move aside and let a real restaurant take over the space

The place was clean, which was nice, but it was surprisingly loud for how not-busy it was. We ordered the steak and cheese pita, the beef burger, and a salad. The salad was fresh but super watery, which made it a bit disappointing. The steak and cheese pita didn't really have much flavor and kind of fell apart as we ate it. It also had a runny sauce that wasn't tzatziki, and we weren't quite sure what it was supposed to be. The burger was okay, but the patty was that perfectly round, pressed kind of meat that felt a little too mass-produced. Honestly, the burger would've been better without the meat. The sweet tea had an odd aftertaste we couldn't quite figure out. We ended up eating most of the food (except the salad, which we boxed up), but overall it just wasn't what we were hoping for. We eat at a lot of Greek restaurants--some run by Greek friends--so this didn't really feel authentic to us. Nice people, clean spot, but probably not a place we'd come back to.

When I called to sort it out, the manager not only refused to acknowledge the mistake but flat-out insisted the missing item was in the bag, implying that I was wrong or lying. It absolutely was not there. This kind of dismissive and unprofessional attitude is completely unacceptable. As far as the food. A Greek salad with ONE olive, one single slice of cucumber and a single slice of tomato is not a Greek salad. It's honestly laughable. The tzatziki , hummus, bulgar pilaf and rice were decent. But the meat? Very tough. Didn't seem fresh. The stuffed grape leaves. Definitely not made in house. The gyro meat I cannot speak of because it was missing. Maybe they were doing me a favor. NEVER AGAIN. Poor food. Poor management.

Wish we both ordered this one so we didn't have to share. - Beef Tenderloin (4 stars): We enjoyed it, but have definitely had better for less money. - Seared Chicken Breast (3 stars): It was a rectangular piece of meat, which was unexpected.
