After buying my newer Mercedes 400e coupe, I told my husband "lets go for a spin" to Alpine Village. There was a beautiful leather jacket made in Germany, in Bavaria somewhere not far from my husband hometown, I loved it so much but in 2017, I didn't want to pay $395, I was pleasantly surprised it was still available and on sale at $275! I was told on the phone. We got to Alpine Village and I was brokenhearted, it was like a ghost town, come back for a detailed review, it was decimated because of the lock down. The big restaurant shut down 2.5 years ago, most shops also went out of business but luckily the shop I really wanted was Alpine Toys was still in business but they close at 3pm. The owner and her daughter, Elke Schutz were really nice, Elke was so friendly, I was hoping my husband could have a chance to speak German, she was born here but they hit it off talking about their German relatives, my husband and Elke were probably the only 2 Germans left in Alpine Village! I tried the beautiful jacket rust color w green accents, Wow, that was $125 off so the reduced price was $275, it was awesome, I bought a fedora hat to match, I don't drink beer but I go to Oktoberfest every year n many folks wear lederhosen and dirndl, I look like a Fraulein w my jacket and hat! I came back the following Sunday to look at more stuffs, her store had everything imaginable, I bought a sweater, OMG it was also on sale, it had edelweiss embroidered on the sleeves and back, nice pockets, and 50% off it was the last one on the rack. It was an experience and I got lost looking at the trinkets n so many souvenirs but I think I spent enough money the past few days. I highly recommend this amazing store, you will find all sorts of Christmas gifts here, happy birthdays gifts, etc.. a lot of steins and nutcrackers all made in Germany, you'll feel like you are in Germany! read more

On our trip to Alpine Village last weekend, we stopped into this gift shop and spent about an hour inside. There were so many cool things! I've been to plenty of German import shops including in German Village in Columbus, Ohio, but this was by far one of the best I've seen in a while. Tons of authentic dirndl dresses for the women and all leather lederhosen for the men... Including high end dirndls costing hundreds and ones on the lower $100 range. Very impressive! They also had traditional Bavarian hats imported for only $30. We got lost looking at the toys. They had monchichi stuffed toys and kaleidoscopes and tons of music boxes all made in Germany. LOVED The music boxes and ended up buying one plus the old fashioned kaleidoscope as a gift for a ten year olds birthday. This store is definitely worth a visit! read more

Do you know how hard it is to find a good dirndl these days? Fortunately I have extraordinary eugoogling skills which led me to Alpine Toys in Alpine Village. They have the cutest authentic dirndls and at pretty reasonable prices (see catalog: http://www.alpinetoys.com/dirndldresses.html) . They also have quite a selection of other German items such as Oktoberfest/Holiday merchandise, men's and children's clothing, accessories, books, toys, and various knick knacks. Not to be confused with another smaller Alpine Toys store, it is located in the back, near the large courtyard, with a blue awning. The lady was very helpful in picking out the right size and color for me. As the dresses are made according to european sizes, it is always best to try them on to ensure the best fit. But if you are too far to make it into the store you can always order their products online. Tip: If you go around Oktoberfest be sure to ask for some free admission passes. read more

I stopped by to get my Dirndl in preparation for the Munich Oktoberfest since I get in too late to buy one there. The woman working when I visited (the owner?) was very helpful and the selection was very good. I spent about an hour and a half trying on the various options and there was another customer doing the same- the owner was very helpful, patient, and provided valuable advice about how to best wear the Dirndl. She even let me upgrade the blouse from my pre-set Dirndl to something that suited me better. The Dirdndls are not cheap, but seem to be of high quality. There was a man also trying on some Lederhosen, and there seemed to be a good selection of shirts, gifts as wall. Definitely recommend. read more

This was the first shop we visited while visiting Alpine Village in Torrance. We've driven past this little town so many times vowing to stop next trip. Finally we made it our main destination. The shop has clothing from Germany, wool hats, gifts, toys, and Christmas decorations that scream German tradition. I selected an old fashioned Christmas guest towel for my daughter-in-law's stocking stuffer and her brother found the perfect Alpine hat handmade of wool complete with a feather! What a great experience my daughter and I had purchasing a Dirndl from what I assumed was the owner. Our purchase was over the phone after having a horrible experience with Amazon (don't buy from Amazon unless you are looking for a cheap Halloween costume). My daughter found many Dirndles she had seen on German Trachten shops that you can only get in Germany. I really wanted to buy an authentic dirndl so after scoping out the website I made the two hour trip to try on in person. The owner is extremely knowledgeable about styles, brands, and trends and she is importing straight from the European source. She had an excellent selection of different styles and brands. Notable is as well that all dresses are sold as a set with a blouse, which is very accommodating compared to German stores. This makes it easier to make a pick and more important if you compare buying separately the prices are very reasonable.
