When traveling late and looking for a quick stopover we stumbled upon this place. The past reviews were so awful but with no other vacancy in town we took a chance. All I can say is it MUST have new owners as it was charming! It's a smaller, older hotel but rooms have been completely redone. Meticulously clean with comfortable beds and cute decor. The location was directly across the street from two coffee/cafe places and the one we tried (the coffee place) was fabulous! We also noted a few other restaurants and a brewery all within walking distance. Great location! I found this hotel to be by far one of the finest lodges or even loges I have ever been to in this area and dare I say anywhere in my life. Do not listen to the bad reviews. Childish evaluations full of arrogance and pity. Most of what they say is true but I guarantee you these people are ones that were raised inadequately by poor parental figures that now live their adult lives in a quiet anger that on occasion flares up and is inflicted upon to others in a sorry attempt to share with the world their sad devastating pain. I am not one of these people. Upon first entry of the establishment I found the small elderly Indian proprietary figure behind the desk to be quite charming. He not only afforded us a room with three beds (a rare commodity in this day and age!) but gave us an impeccable deal. Our interaction was brief, but in our short conversation he regaled us with tales of his childhood growing up in the foothills of the Nepalese Mountains. Descriptions so eloquent so delightful, his demeanor so engaging I felt as if I had known this man my whole life. It was as if I had been transported in space and time, the hot Indian sun radiating upon my cheeks, the sweet layered aroma of cumin and coriander wafting through the leaves of the banyan tree, the distant gleeful laughter of the white cheeked Macaque. This was a man of class I shall not soon forget. The room was beyond expectation. Reviewers complaints of lodging thick with stench of mildew and cigarette smoke did not do this place justice. I found the aroma to be of a deep musky fragrance one full of character full of life. Stories upon stories, generations upon generations were inhaled deeply into my nostrils. I felt my body come alive all at once. "I feel a tingle!" I declared. The walls, like tapestries. Beautifully decorated by hand, paintings of thick green foliage. A serene tree scape, I sometimes forgot we were indoors. I seemed to forgot I was even on this planet. "Is this heaven?" I found myself saying out loud. My bunkmates chuckled in agreement this truly was an unworldly experience we were sharing. Joyful and awestruck as we were we were also still quite tired and swift deliberations were made upon sleeping arrangements. "Goodnight to all" we said in unison. And as i lay upon the mattress and drifted into sleep a smile crept upon my face. "I like it here friends I truly do. We made the right choice." No reply was heard and a panic stirred jolting me out of bed. But as I came upon my companions I soon saw the reason for their absent reply. For their eyes were closed and their mouths were smiling, dreams of India dancing in their heads. "Teehee" I whispered "teehee". I couldn't recommend a place more. read more

Alpine Lodge - The friendliest guy in town - Hotels Near Me - Mount Shasta, California

Front desk clerk (Ron/Andy??) mistakenly checked us in. When we told him we had a reservation he acted like we had the reservation when in fact we were at the wrong hotel. As soon as we realized our mistake, we asked for a refund. Ron/Andy refused and threatened to call security, yelled at me and my elderly mother, said he didn't care and it wasn't his problem. He refused to offer any help to correct the situation or offer any reasonable solution. When we asked to speak to the manager he gave us a number that went directly to him and he hung up on me. Also of note, the front desk was crawling with ants, sketchy people on premises, and there was a big black bug on a pillow, dirty and felt unsafe there... especially after being threatened by Ron/Andy. If I could give zero stars I would. I'd highly suggest that the owner/manager look into addressing these issues. read more

People don't like to hear this, because it tarnishes whatever misplaced romanticism they have for mountaineering but, here goes: I like to climb mountains, but the night before I climb them...I like to be comfortable. I know that for the next 2-3 days I'm likely to be simultaneously too hot and too cold and to get 2 hours of sleep in 18 different positions. I also like to have brunch before I leave the trailhead, but that's for another time. This hotel is, allegedly, the cheapest place in Mt Shasta City. This is according to the gentleman we woke up at midnight after a long drive from Portland...so take that with a grain of salt. I was looking to sleep on a bed and maybe sit on a toilet and hopefully not encounter any syringes and preferably do it near the mountain I was about to ascend...and this place did the job. The owner was wonderful and it was in a very nice location, walking distance to many restaurants. They have a little raised patio where you can sit out and have a drink or smoke. Fan in the rooms with microwave & small fridge. Nothing fancy at all but had everything we needed. Highly recommend! read more

My experience at Alpine Lodge was Mornin to say the least.... we rolled in around 1am after a 6hr drive with two small kids. It was 39° outside and the heater in the room did not work, It blasted cold air until about 3am when I messed with it and disvovered the knob had been put on backward.. After a night of little sleep with frozen children I woke up quietly as not to wake my kids washed my face and scubbed it with a towel after everyone had woken we noticed the towels had fresh makeup smears and other brown markes on them appalled, I looked over the one I had used in the dark and discoved it was covered in yellow stains!!! Not one, but EVERY SINGLE towel had some sort of discusing stain or spot on it... Ferious and disgusted I took all the towels to the manager who simply offered me new towels... so I sent my very level headed and respectful husband to discuss the situation with the manager. Only after my husband suggested a refund did he offer a $10.00 cleaning fee refund and said we should have looked at the towels first?? My husband suggested if the manager would like to use one of the towels to wash his face, lol at which point was only willing to give a $40.00 refund ONLY half of what we paid.. now I understand this is and economy lodge and in full understanding of how clean it should be as I cleaned one as my first job. I totally understand the comforters don't get washed everyday among other things, but EVERY towel being soiled and visibly brown with makeup is unacceptable!! Short back story- While traveling through we decided to stay a night in Shasta . I have been struggling through a cold and my partner being tired, we decided why not stay at a hotel. We stopped and found the Alpine Lodge after finding out a few others were already fully booked... this is also the only reason why we stayed Upon walking into their contrived front desk area to meet a friendly kind woman, we Got a room and some good food info then rushed to dinner. After eating I was exhausted and we decided to hit the hay and hop in the shower. We open up the room ... -it's freezing, -painted yellow -has old thin sheets from the 70's -the floor is like walking on cement with thin stained carpet on top -the bed is extremely uncomfortable with two thin pillows and a wood frame to bruise your head -the TV remote was sticky and dirty - The bathroom is covered in pubic hair and there are no towels that have not already been used. Our towel selection consisted of : -a towel with sharpie on it that didn't even say alpine lodge -a face towel hard and used with pubes still lingering on the shower curtain -To top it all off there was no floor matt in the bathroom All I wanted was a hot shower to help with my cold. I paid good money for that hot shower. Maybe even a bath if I was lucky... only to find this as my result. I told the front desk about my experience and I had to heckle the cheap owner down in price for a discount - (after he tried to kick us out at 8 pm) WHERE ARE WE SUPPOSED TO GO ! IM SICK AND EXHAUSTED! I work hard for the money I make and have cleaned commercial properties previously. He then finally gave us a decent discount on the room (we are only staying a night) yet we still have to stay in this gross room ,sick and bummed out, but now with two clean towels ...still in the pubic hair infected bathroom. Giving them one star because they held a room for us after we were stuck in traffic for 6 hours We arrived after midnight after being stuck behind an accident in blizzard conditions for 6 and a half hours. We arrived to find the parking lot covered in about 8 inches of snow. As I trudged through the calf-deep snow, I nearly slipped on the stairs up to the office (none of the stairs had been cleared of snow). We did not even bother to take a suitcase out of the car, so we would not have to carry it across the snow-covered parking lot. We asked about the breakfast advertised here and were told that there was only coffee in the room. We went up the snow-choked steps to our room, and discovered the heat was not working. We were so tired that we just crawled into bed and tried to sleep. The people upstairs chose then to clomp and take a shower, which we were clearly able to hear, making it difficult to fall asleep. In the morning I went to fetch and warm up our car while my wife got ready. She discovered that the shower curtain was an actual curtain (cloth curtain, no liner). Again, he kept a room for us on a night where I-5 was heavily restricted. The room was clean, though cold. There was coffee in the room. These are the only things to recommend this property. My expectations were low going in, and this property failed to achieve even that. read more

* No bathtub drain--I had to stuff the drain with the plastic wrapper from the disposable cups. * Live bug walking beside me while I was bathing in the bath tub * Long black hair in the bathtub * No regular size washcloths * The shampoo packets were impossible to open with wet hands, even using my teeth, so I walked naked and wet through the room, found my LeatherMan tool, and opened the shampoo. * The size of the tiny bars of soap would have been perfect for a 3-feet-tall human. * The lock on my bottom-floor bathroom window was broken, which made me feel insecure staying here. * Bathroom door couldn't be closed all the way * A couple of old broken-down cars and some old 4-wheel-drive ATV's not only made this place look sketchy, but made me wonder if there were long-term residents of this motel who would be less than trustworthy--I had a brand new Harley-Davidson right outside my room that I was worried about. * The sheets looked dirty, but they may have just been old. There were long black hairs under my pillows. This place is the opposite of hospitable, and since THEY obviously don't care, it doesn't inspire confidence. I feel stupid for choosing this place based on price and a very few OLD good Yelp reviews. * The vent control on the A/C was worn out so you didn't know which mode it was in. * Carpet was stained and threadbare and not very clean * No clock * The "Do Not Disturb" sign on the door looked like it had been run over several times by a truck. * The curtains couldn't close all the way because one hook was off the track. It took me about a minute to fixe it. * The TV remote was so dirty it was gross to touch it. * No continental breakfast of any kind. Just the in-room coffee. * The walls were clean and nicely painted and the fixtures (sink, toilet, etc.) were good. * The wi-fi was fast and solid. * This place basically ripped me off. The rooms are JUST OK enough so that a tired guest won't ask for a refund and go find another motel. $69+tax=$79 was at least twice what this place was worth. For $40 total it might have been tolerable. * See below for a glowing review I gave a motel for a similar price in an earlier town on my motorcycle trip! For an Econo Lodge (named Alpine Lodge, how sneaky), this place was rather quaint and nice to stay in. First off, the manager is awesome - super friendly, asks how you're doing when you see him outside, and willing to accommodate tough situations. My friends and I came in off the mountain and our two queen room apparently was vomited in (ew) so he gave us two rooms, one with a queen and one with a king and fridge to make up for it. :) The place is really, really tiny and I wished they had a bathtub rather than just a shower, but they were clean and fine for a few nights stay before and after a Shasta climb. If you're looking for a nice, cheap place to stay, this place served us well. read more

This is great for a budget hotel. The manager is friendly and referred to me by my first name every time he saw me and is very accommodating (see Tracy O's review). The rooms themselves are small, have showers instead of tubs but are clean and pretty much all you need for a simple stay. I would like to see the bathrooms updated and a few more power plugs available for charging electronics. Bring your own soap and shampoo because all they provide are soap bars. read more

Stopped by because I needed a place to sleep for the night. Cost-wise, it was a bit more than I was hoping to spend - it was about $65, for just myself. It's not a completely unreasonable cost, but I was only there for 8 hours. The man at the front desk was friendly and likable. They have a continental breakfast from 7-9am, but I can't say what that's like because I needed to leave early. The room really was nice - had a fridge, queen sized bed, and plenty of space. You have to go to the front desk for the wifi password, though. Seems like there must be a better way than making everybody go to the front desk. They could print the password on the receipt, or post it on the refrigerator in the room.... Something... Anyways, it would have been nice to check my email, but no big deal. I was unpleasantly surprised to find small, black curly hairs in the sink. That was not awesome. I'm tempted to give one star, but I since didn't give them an opportunity to rectify it, I'll give 2. read more

Horrible experience. Pool and jacuzzi not in service. Doesn't look like they are going to fix them. Found 5-6 pieces of hair underneath a quarter of the comforter so I ended up throwing the comforter on a chair to stay away from the filthy thing. Found hair on the towels the lodge provided. Burgundy carpet looks like 150 years old with dark brown stain and some bits of white tissue. Free wi-fi didn't work for the whole night. AC is very loud. Bring ear plugs. Phone in the room doesn't work. Can't even dial operator. Free breakfast is concentrate OJ, bananas, and some fruit jelly candy. Don't be fooled by the fancy word of "free". By the way, I booked the room through Booking.com and its actually $10 more than if you book with the hotel directly. Manager is nice but it can't make up the terrible experience. My theory is, it's a budget inn so we are not expecting fancy 500 thread count sheet and marble counter top. But if you can't keep the environment clean and sanitary then you should really consider a different profession. read more

People, if you want cheap, then this is it. why complain so much. The owners are great people, like family. My boyfriend stays there for a short term job in a hospital. I was there 2 times and they were so helpful. Now, we even became friends. Who needs a pool when there's tons of lakes all around you! That's why you came to Mt. Shasta, not a pool! read more

My kids and I stumbled into this lodge on Sunday August 7th, 2016 by chance because we had an issue with our reservation at the Mt. Shasta Inn. The owners of this lodge accommodated us right away, and gave me a nice 2 queen bed room for my family. Very clean, nice spacious room for us. What surprised me is this: My 14 yr old left his laptop at the motel and when I called yesterday, the lady at front desk took my number down and followed up with housekeeping on it. Few hours later she called me bak: they found it and are holding it for me till I mail them a prepaid UPS envelope. The extremely nice and helpful woman working at the desk informed me that the reservation I had called and made for me and my three kids hadn't actually made it into the book. (It was an actual, physical reservation book.) And they had no vacancies left. Lesson: Book online. And I'm left wondering what happened to the credit card info I provided in order to reserve the room? Plus side: We kept driving and discovered the Phoenix Motel in Phoenix, Oregon. We arrived later than normal check in. Called ahead to let them know. It was no big deal. The man who checked us in told us that he had gone up about an hour before and turned the heat on in the room for us. We got checked in and went to the room. It was great. It was clean, it was nice. Despite the cold temperature outside the room was really comfortable, very glad the heat was on before we got there. It's the cheapest place I could find in the area, $85 for three people, and it was great. read more

Our experience was really weird, and we have absolutely no interest in ever gong here again! As we were checking in, the guy who runs the place noted that we were from Salinas, and made some comments about "crime" and "Mexicans." My partner was surprised, and clearly pointed out that she was Mexican American. He went on to criticize "Mexicans" again, and noted that "they" are all over. "Yes," she said, "we are all over." The only reason we stayed was that we already knew that there was nothing else available. Not again! The room was decent, certainly not spectacular or worth the cost. read more

As another Yelper noted, this place is now called Alpine Lodge. We had a hard time finding it because we were looking for Econo Lodge. We picked this place as a stop-over because it is pet friendly. We got a 2 bedroom suite with fridge and microwave for something around $80 per night, with tax, and pet charges. Not bad, really. It was snowing and they were shoveling the lot. The place is definitely a little old, but they take good care of it. The location is nice and very pretty. There is a little restaurant called Lily's across the street and a cute coffee shop too. We'd definitely stop over there again. Oh, and the owner or whoever it was that checked us in at midnight was very friendly. read more

Inexpensive and comfortable in winter. Old furniture but it worked. Forget the continental breakfast, as it is a bagged fruit juice and danish. But it is across the street from Seven Suns Coffee. The heater worked and wasn't the noisy type you usually get in low cost hotels. The wifi worked great. My only 2 complaints are the pillows are too flat and the guy in the next room smoked all evening outside on the patio, then hacked all morning. Otherwise no problem at all. On a trip in the area, I was going to camp, but it was getting late, I was sweaty from a hike and the temp was dropping fast so decided to go all civilized. Former Econolodge was same price as another one I called, so chose them, $59 on an October Saturday. I was sort of shocked by how nice the room was. Must have recently been redone. Shower and bathroom was still a bit run down, but things worked. No bad smells, which is the danger in cheap motels. Nice owners. Comfortable bed. With a fixed up bathroom, at this price, they would get 5 stars. Great cinnamon roll at coffee place across the way for a major sugar fix in the morning. read more

Cons: -our room was near the dumpster, so the moment we opened the door to go out, it smelled like dog poop. Poop that's a few days old I'd say, since we have a dog and know how that smells. -the room smelled musty, and we couldn't open the window or else the smell of dog doodoo would creep in. -we turned on the ac, but not to our surprise it made the room smell more old; we ended up putting dryer sheets on the vent to lessen the smell. -at night, part of the room started smelling like urine, we don't know where that came from (well the carpet smelled like urine, so that's where the smell came from, but what set off the smell we don't know), but it did. Trust, our dog is house trained, and we never left him alone, AND our bed was in front of the area, so we know it was NOT him. Our dog even kept smelling random parts of the room as if there was more to smell than what our noses could detect. -walls were pretty thin. With the TV off we could hear a normal conversation that went on next door. We could also hear conversations that went on across the hall, people walking upstairs, people walking down the stairs (which was 3 feet from our window, so I suppose that was to be expected). -beds made a ridiculous amount of noise. -we were really disappointed at the service of the owners. At some point a man came to our door (5 hours after we checked in and had walked around the parking lot twice with our dog) knocking NON STOP even though we told him to hold on. He claimed we never mentioned we brought our dog, but it was on the form we filled out for the reservation. Pet fee is $20. -there is no pet area for a dog to do his/her business. We tried walking around the surrounding area, but there were so few plots of dirt, sand, grass, or mulch it made the task rather annoying. -window curtains didn't slide so easily, one curtain actually didn't move at all. -the shower head didn't stay in place when we repositioned it. Pros: -The bathroom was clean, except for a few dirt smears on the shower curtain. -the wall behind the beds were painted with pine trees, which was pretty cute. -there were no bed bugs, which surprised us as we did find an earwig near our bed. -I'm pretty sure this is the cheapest place to lodge at in Mt Shasta City. Trust me, if we we're allowed refunds, we would've left the place the moment we walked in. read more

I am traveling from Oakland, CA to move to Olympia, WA but got stranded here in Mount Shasta due to a blown transmission. It's been two days I've stayed here, plus one more night. It's not the Ritz, it's not grand, it's not impressive, it's not decorated to my ideal taste... But it sure does make up for it by being centrally located next to an awesome coffee shop, a wonderful restaurant and a liquor store. Plus Andy, the manager, and his wife are absolutely darling and very sweet. They know the area well and their recommendations so far have been on point. It's been a comfortable stay, the WiFi is strong, plus any request for more towels and trash liners are immediately granted. I'm very happy with my stay! read more

Writing this from our room, on free wifi. Great connectivity - my friend was watching Netflix within 2 minutes after I brought the password from the front desk. We were looking forward to the pool, but it was closed - guess it's not the season. Hot tub across the parking lot looks open though. Sign says "closes at 10", presumably because of noise. Room is nice & clean - had to squirm behind the bed for outlets, but we always travel with extension cords! A/C unit seems not to work, but the weather is perfect. Got a clean room right in front of our parking spot, with queen size bed, mini-fridge, microwave & tv, for $60/night. Will try and remember to update at the end of our stay. :) read more

Everything was good until I got home and noticed my bug bites, ringworm, and extremely sore back from the hard bed. Room was nothing special just a bed, tv and coffee maker. The bathroom door did not close, and nothing was very clean. Management seemed nice at first until my card recieved an unjust charge on top of a charge for staying. Charged my room for two new chairs they believe were damaged when I was there. Seems like they trying to pull a fast one to make some quick money. For $60, do not expect a good nights sleep. read more

the Alpine lodge formerly econo lodge was a bad experience for us. We were told one price then it changed when we got there by about $15 higher. The room was hard to get warm and the bed was so itchy and uncomfortable you had to sleep on top of the covers for the small amount of sleep if any you got. The next room was noisy all night and something was running all night through the wall , water heater moaning or something of the sort. read more

In retrospect we should have previewed the room before purchasing. We opened the door to and were knocked over by heavily perfumed air freshener. Unloaded our stuff, and within 10 minutes smelled stale smoke in the "nonsmoking" room. Before the hour was up my husband went to the front desk to speak with the management. They insisted over and over that it was a NONSMOKING room and wouldn't work with him to find a solution. When he finally said we couldnt stay (asthma issues with smoke), they refused to give us a refund. We had to eat our money and buy another room elsewhere. The room was old and gross, the carpet was stained and torn, certainly remniscent of "smoking in the room days". If you are sensitive to smoke, or disgusting rooms in general, you may want to consider finding a different hotel. read more

This place was absolutely amazing. First, we did not intentionally chose this place. We were in the middle of an emergency and desperate. . . our truck starter broke on our way to a vacation north of Mt. Shasta and we had 3 dogs and no place to stay, and were on a limited budget. I spoke to the manager and explained our situation and he gave us a room at their lowest rate and not only allowed us to bring our 3 dogs (their limit was 1), but also gave us a price break for the daily pet fee. Then when we couldn't get the new starter for a few days, he let us only pay for half a day on the final day when we got our truck back late in the day well past the check-out time. The room was clean and comfortable and the dogs liked it, too! Also, since we couldn't drive anywhere, we found it to be conveniently located as far as restaurants, shops, and even the car repair shop! If I ever come back to Mt. Shasta and need a place to stay, I'm staying here again! read more
