Pat explained everything very well, and I felt like his estimate was trustworthy! Would recommend this shop for Volvo owners!

What a great shop this is! I just found them a few weeks ago. I had work done on my Acura at a…read moregarage in Eugene and the problems weren't only not fixed but created a problem with my A/C. Jerry was so nice and scheduled to check out the car a few days out. I dropped off my car and the mechanic went over the issues I had: speedometer cable broken and replaced Idle control not working. Come to find out, my A/C wasn't working right either. The shop is very clean, as is the waiting area and bathroom. They had coffee and water available to drink while I waited. The work was done in a reasonable amount of time. I was warned that the A/C issue might involve having to remove the dash inside the car to find the problem and might be a pricey fix. Ugh. I was preparing for the worse and praying for the best. The speedometer cable was not broken but disconnected. Huge cost savings there and impt. because the part was no longer being manufactured. The Idle control part that was put on by the Eugene mechanics and didn't fix the idle problem wasn't the necessary part to fix the idle problem. My car has a manual transmission. It has two Idle control parts not one which is what automatic transmissions have. The one that was replaced was for hot starts...the one I needed was for cold starts which would solve both cold and hot start idle issues. I found a used fast idle control assembly part online and that fix was properly fixed now. The fix made by the garage in Eugene to address the fan issue for the radiator was not fixed. Mainly because the problem wasn't the fan but a dead battery. The Eugene mechanics repair that was made was to add a timer and sensor which, not only wasn't necessary but ended up being the cause of the A/C unit not working. It was blowing the A/C fuse making the A/C not work. Thankfully the dash wasn't taken out so the fix was not as expensive as I thought it would be. I am grateful for good and honest mechanics. I am frustrated with having to go back to my previous mechanic and try to get some money back on the work they did but I'm going to try. Wayne's is my new Acura mechanic.

Oakmont Service Center - A Referral That Fell Short…read moreReferrals are the backbone of any reputable business, especially in the world of classic cars. I own a 1949 Chevy, and like many classic car owners, I rely heavily on trusted recommendations. Skilled mechanics who truly understand vintage vehicles are rare in our area, especially since the retirement of one of the most respected classic specialists Eugene has ever had. Oakmont Service Center came recommended by a respected transmission expert, and my first interaction with Jerremy, the manager, was positive. My initial visit--radiator exchange, exhaust leak repair, and a minor carburetor adjustment--went smoothly, and meeting the two mechanics who handle classics gave me confidence in the referral. That confidence didn't last. A Breakdown and a Missed Diagnosis During a casual weekend drive, my Chevy wouldn't start after a coffee stop. After checking the usual suspects with no luck, I called Jerremy. The car was towed in, and it took two days before Eric looked at it. Because I'd had a starter issue in the past, he removed and reinstalled the starter without performing a full diagnostic. A professional approach would have been to verify the actual cause rather than rely on history. The real issue was the distributor. I chose to upgrade to an electronic module and coil. Eric removed the distributor and sent it to a shop in Cottage Grove for the upgrade. When it returned, I made it clear--in front of Eric, Jerremy, and Mike (the owner)--that if there were any questions, they should call the builder directly. No call was ever made. Critical Steps Missed The builder later informed me that Oakmont suggested they "needed to get into the engine," which was unnecessary and incorrect. The distributor had been installed improperly, and a firewall-mounted module was still running six volts--something any experienced classic mechanic would have caught immediately. The car would never have started without correcting that. To suggest engine work without completing basic diagnostic steps was a bad call. Lack of Accountability When I stopped by to speak with Mike about the missed steps, he was "too busy" to talk. Jerremy took my number, but no one followed up. When I reached out again, I was offered a $100 refund--an acknowledgment that mistakes were made, but not a meaningful resolution. I was also disappointed to walk in and see Eric working on my classic without a fender mat. That alone speaks volumes about attention to detail and respect for the vehicle. A Referral That Didn't Hold Up This referral fell short. As another reviewer, Von Sellz, pointed out--we don't all have dash cams to monitor what happens behind the shop doors. Some shops, like Joe's Garage, take thorough check-in photos and run a professional, accountable operation. They've been doing it right since 1952. Oakmont Service Center had an opportunity to live up to their reputation and the trust placed in them through referrals. Instead, they missed critical steps, failed to communicate, and didn't take ownership of their mistakes.

I came to absolute air trusting them and thinking it would be cheaper than going to a dealership... but I was wrong. I dropped my car off in for a coolant flush they quoted me for $275 I accepted, while I'm at work they call me that I don't need a coolant flush, but I need a water pump and it was gonna cost me $1,250 so I declined and said I would pick my car up and take it somewhere else. THEY DID NOT ASK FOR PERMISSION TO DO A SERVICE-CHECK ON MY CAR!!! They ended up doing a service check anyway and stripped 2 of my wheel studs off of my driver side tire and 1 stud on my rear passenger tire. They quoted me $1,100 to get it fixed, mind you I didn't ask for a service check but they did it anyway; and they still tried to charge me so much money. They let me take my car knowing it was dangerous to drive on the road, so I went straight to Subaru Dealership and they quoted me for $260 to replace those 3 studs, when Absolute Air was charging me $1,100 for their mistake. Like Gahhh Damnnn you guys are definitely scammers. I ended up getting all my receipts and pictures from Subaru Dealership and I took back my paperwork so they can pay me what I paid for their shitty mess. I'm glad I got paid my money that they f'ed up on, but never again will I go to a place like Absolute Air & Auto. The owner was nice but after I brought him receipts and had my mechanic brother of 12+ years call him on his businesses bullshit scam, he wasn't as nice anymore. So if anyone thinks a small auto repair shop is cheaper than a dealership, it really ain't. I learned that the hard way. You get what you pay for.

My local shop didn't do a very good job with the diagnostics and only suggested replacing the top cat. Which had been replaced when I bought the rig last year due to Lithia selling me a beater. They had the exhaust system replaced and fixed all the issues that were present. Since it was a consignment to a muffler shop, it certainly did come with a price tag. But as a person residing in the Seattle area for the last 8 years, it was still a much better deal than anyone would have given me. They were kind and understood that I would need extra time and attention to haul the vehicle into them. Given how hot she was running, I was concerned it would overheat. They paid attention and noted recommendations that I knew about due to friends looking at the car but never were mentioned by the other shops who had worked on her. Exceptionally professional and goes above and beyond. You get what you pay for and nobody is a miracle worker, so try keeping that in mind when you need auto repairs.
