It's been a long cold winter here in Southern California and we love having a cozy fire. We ran out of wood and were looking for a reliable and affordable place to get firewood. For $40 you can a wheel barrel full of wood! My hubby and I went back twice getting 6 barrels full in total. We both agreed that next year it would be even cheaper to get a 1/2 cord of wood for $325 and they deliver for free. Alex and his father Jesus, run their business just off the 210 freeway. Exit Sierra Madre and it's right there. They have a lot full of freshly stacked wood. They are very friendly and will help you load it into the back of your car. *Street parking can be tricky. Alpine Firewood is located on the corner of Corson and Altadena, right off the 210 freeway. Also located right next door to a gas station. Parking is non existent. If you come and there is another customer, you can either wait on the curb (although it is not a parking spot) or drive around again until a spot becomes available to drive in. Inside the Alpine Firewood place is only enough room for one car. Anyways, if you are looking for firewood and a lot of it, then this would be the place to be. You can purchase mixed wood or hardwood. A full barrel of mixed wood is $35 and a full barrel of hardwood is $40. Credit card is acceptable as payment if you do not have cash or prefer to pay by card. If you are looking for only a small amount of firewood, then this place probably wouldn't be the best place to come (as we were only here to purchase a few bundles of firewood and so we ended up purchasing anything). Please note that Alpine Firewood also sells charcoal if you need it for a barbecue (you can also purchase hickory or mesquite wood for your barbecue too). But it is also in a large quantity like the firewood. Service was very friendly and would recommend this place if you are looking for firewood and/ or charcoal in large quantities. read more

So you think by coming here to purchase firewood you are going to get a deal. Not the case. The attendant claimed it's hardwood, better than the stores. It's now $40 for a wheel barrel and the wood in the wheel barrel was hallowed out by termites. If you have ever put that in your fireplace you know it goes Snap, Crackle and Pop! So not to waste a trip, and it's been a cold winter and we have burned through our wood pile, we purchased a plastic wrapped bundle for $10. You can get the equivalent at Grocery Outlet for $6, Walmart for $7 or any supermarket for $9. read more

Been searching for some more affordable, better quality wood in the area than what you can get at Ralph's or Vons etc and so glad I found these guys! Their prices are SO much more competitive and the quality of the wood is far superior imo! I feel like I got twice as much wood at much better quality than what you find at the local grocery stores. You can get a wheelbarrow full of hardwood for $40, or mixed wood for $30 (I think?) but they only had hardwood when I visited. However, they also have smaller bundles of mixed wood for $10 which was a perfect size for me so I grabbed 2!! They load it into your car for you too! The staff were sooo nice! There isn't really any parking except kinda far back on the street - bc their shop is located on a busy intersection near the freeway entrance and there's no parking lot - but the staff there helped me get my car in and out quickly with no issues so it worked out fine. I could see how this might get a little intense if it's busy though so just be aware and I'd say try to go when it's not busy. read more

It's not easy to find a good local firewood place, but Alpine is great and Alex is totally cool. We ordered a 1/2 cord of Almond and were able to arrange to have it delivered the next morning. Unlike some other firewood places, who show up in a pickup truck with a loose load of firewood comprising an ambiguous amount, Alpine shows up with your firewood pre-measured and neatly stacked onto a pallet, wrapped in clear plastic. It's efficient, orderly and most of all, completely clear how much firewood you're getting. The quality of the firewood we received is excellent. Thoroughly cured, cut to reasonable lengths, in a variety of diameters. Burned great! (Because it was Almond, I did split some pieces into kindling and smaller logs to be able to build fires without incorporating soft/medium firewood of other types.) I have tried other firewood companies in the Pasadena / Altadena area in past years. I was not happy with the quality of the wood. It was not fully dried out and difficult to burn. Also, the delivery amount seemed a little short. This year, I got 1/2 cord of mixed wood (predominantly hardwood) from Alpine and was very pleased with the wood- completely dry and split. The quantity delivered was at least 1/2 cord- maybe more. The price seemed to be on a par with the other companies in the area- maybe a tad more (but you get what you pay for). Upon delivery the price was as we agreed on and the wood was delivered at the time specified (with a text in advance of delivery). This company dumps the wood at your house- they do not move or stack it. The other companies may move it for you but I think the inferior quality of the wood negates this advantage. I hired someone to move it and stack it for me. The owner, Alex, gave me info on the different types of wood and the proper ratio of hard and soft wood to use which was very helpful. Open by appointment only during COVID! Very responsive via yelp or text. Jesus even accommodated by opening a little earlier for me in the morning. $30 for a wheelbarrel of mixed wood or $40 for hardwood. The wheelbarrel is packed quite full and usually takes up almost all of my trunk space (mid sized SUV). We use the wood primarily for an outdoors firepit and occasional indoor fireplace so a wheelbarrel goes a long way. They do also deliver based on 1/4, 1/2 and full cords. Location is right off the freeway, can back into the driveway and they will load up your car for you. In and out in 5 minutes! I usually go for the mixed wood but only hardwood was available this last time. Tried to use the wood last night and 2 pieces lasted over 3 hours in a firepit. Lights relatively easy with some kindling. Burns clean. There's a sign for visa/MasterCard next to the entrance so I imagine they do take credit cards. I always pay with cash - quick and easy. read more

I found them online and due to overall high ratings and the close location, I wanted to give them a try. When I arrived there, they were very helpful and the price was reasonable. When they were loading the logs to my car, I asked if they accepted credit cards as I didn't have enough cash (I had 20$ on me and the logs I wanted to buy were priced 60$ in total). They told me it was cash only. When I asked if there was a close by ATM to get some cash, they said the gas station across the stress had an ATM. I went to the gas station, however the ATM was not working. I went back to the Alpine Firewood to get the woods with the cash I have (20$). When I told them the ATM did not work, and I was going to buy 20$ worth of logs, they immediately said they accepted credit cards! SO, the trust was destroyed even before it was established. I still bought the logs with the credit card and it was still a good deal but I am never going back there again as they tried to trick me to make the purchase with cash, and that was not okay! read more
