We hired Alpha Steel Buildings in July 2022. From Dirt to Done! Is what we were told. Paid a $25,000 deposit and have emailed and checked in regularly about project status and progress. We have been told "getting a building permit approved in King County is a lengthly process," This week were contacted by an attorney representing Alpha Steel Buildings, they are out of business and not refunding our deposit. We are frustrated and devastated. Not great news a week before Christmas. We saved our hard earned money for several years before starting this project. Dealing with this company has been the worst experience EVER. We signed our contract with them last July, 2019, we had to move to building site at no fault of theirs. BUT... after that with designs, drainage, building permits.. vacations on their part.. Jan. 30 we finally were permitted. Let me say, we had to pay them a huge chunk of money last July... which we were making payments on FOR NOTHING. Now COVID, which really did not affect outdoor construction for that long of a period. Fast forward, Sept. 17, 2020, all we have is a building that is framed and finally has steel...THATS IT!! No final grating, no concrete, no garage doors. That has held up our Electrical contractor. We have paid them 3 very large sums of money.. we are never late with payment. I can't even think of the interest in a building not even done. The owner died after we signed the contract. His adult children who run the business are nice enough but unorganized and uncommunicative. It took over two years to get a pole barn completed with many no-shows and the delivery of wrong items always prolonging one step after another. They always have an excuse for poor management. At the end of the project, they promised to deliver a window screen we paid for that was missing and then asked us to drive hours to buy one ourselves at our cost. March 5, 2018 Alpha steel was hired to build a 44 foot by 30 foot pole building shop/garage. The contract stipulated all dirt work (site prep), building construction to include cement work, gutters and drain work. Once started they did a great job from start to finish. Remington did all dirt work and went above and beyond what was needed! The owner Bob Smith was easy to work with and kept me informed of progress on different crews coming and going. The framing crew, John and Anthony were very good at their part of the construction of the building. All in all it was a good working relationship with all. Bob and his team built my 40'x36' pole building at my property in Puyallup. I'm very happy with the building. I got 3 bids, and Alpha was the only bidder that included the excavation and site prep work. Both of the other bidders (both other large pole building contractors in the area) excluded the excavation work. This saved me $2,000-$3,000 in total costs on the building by not having to hire another contractor to do the site work, not to mention saving me the headache of scheduling and coordinating multiple contractors. The project did take a bit longer to get started than I had anticipated, but once construction began, the building was up and completely finished within about 4 weeks time. The wait to get it started was more than made up for by the speed of building the shop, and quality of work. Plus saving on the excavation and the thicker gauge sheet metal Alpha used. I did see several negative reviews of Alpha online. Before hiring Alpha, I asked Bob about these reviews. I didn't want to have the same experience that others claimed to have. He explained to me that there medical related issues someone had at the time, and that I would not experience any of these problems. I took him at his word, and gave him the benefit of the doubt, and I'm glad I did. I got a nice shop at a fair price. They also poured a slab for me in front of the shop. This was not in the original contract. I was very happy with how quickly they were able to accommodate this. They were able to prep and pour the slab about a week after the shop was complete, which seemed pretty good for a last minute change in this economy. read more

I didn't think that theif would still be alive, he is the worst of the worst. he ripped my sons off for over 30k.the bid we got from him was twice what we ended paying another company bid was and they put up a beautiful bldg.and saved tens of thousands of dollars with the the end results, even when he ripped us off for the 30 plus thousand dollars. due your self a favor, steer clear of lying bob. read more

We put a 50% down payment down in April 2016 filed for permits that were approved May 31, we were told by the owner once permits we're approved it would take no more than 2 weeks to get his crew started and 30-45 days from start to finish and have a complete project. They did not start building until August 15, and finished the shell in Sept but didn't have the concrete poured until end of October then didn't get the doors on until mid November. The end product seems good. I would never use these guys again or recommend them to anyone.They also left all their garbage for us to clean up. "Unprofessional" is being kind. It seemed as though they were using our money to finish other jobs. And if that is true, i fear eventually some one will pay for a building they don't receive:-( read more

I would not use Alpha Steel Buildings again nor would I recommend them. It took 11 months from the time I paid my deposit, to final sign off. Lot's of excuses and delays on their part for no good reason. The owner Bob was not easy to work with and in my opinion should step aside and let his kids take over for good. I have been trying to get a call back from this company for over a month. I have emailed him multiple times. Trying to get an explanation of costs. We were planning on having his company to build a pole barn. We gave him a heavy deposit. He knew we were living in Thurston County that had a 2 year wait for a mima gopher inspection. He did say anything about this to us and we had no idea until after he took our money. He charged me over $6000. When he did give me the statement; it was on an unprofessional word document. He charged me for permitting fees, a design and a list of materials. For $6000!!! I am in the process of getting a home built. Same property. I paid $1700 for three copies of a fully engineered house plan and also paid $1400 for the permitting cost. So please explain to me how a pole barn costs almost twice as much with absolutely nothing to show for this charge. No work was done by this company besides a trip to the permit office and a word document. Avoid this company. Do not call for a bid. He will take your money and not return your calls. read more

If I could give negative stars I would . Avoid this company. Being in the building industry I believed I could handle this company and the negative reviews couldn't be "all that bad . Well boy was I wrong. Pay up front and in advance and wait and wait. With no excuse what so ever . We signed the contract with Alpha Steel on June 27th 2016 and paid our half down deposit. It did take along time to get my permit (an entire year!!). I partly blame King County, but it didn't really seem as if Alpha Steel was really on it either. I personally had to take off work or leave work early a few times to go to the King County Building Department before "I" finally got the permit approved. Once the permit was issued it has been promise after promise on when the shop would be started, let alone completed! Work would be done for a few days, they would of course immediately want their progress payment, then you don't see or hear anything from them for weeks on end. You call Bob and he is angry at you for wanting to know a schedule of completion. Here we are still needing final grade,concrete , gutters etc . The cost to just finish the job ourselves is well over the remaining $1k final payment we need to pay them so you basically feel that you are at their mercy and are being held hostage. It's over 3 weeks since the metal was completed and no word on when the rest of the work will be completed. If you hire Bob just rip out your hair now. Don't prolong the agony. DO NOT HAVE ALPHA STEEL BUILDNGS DO ANYTHING FOR YOU!!! Our experience matches the other negative reviews. We signed our contract mid January 2017 and on June 2, 2018 they fixed the last problem... making a 9 foot wide door 9 feet wide!? Bob said, "oh, it's not wide enuf? That shouldn't be hard for you to fix!!!" WRONG!! It took them a month to fix their goof. And since everything is paid up front, you're stuck!! Promises, delays, promises, delays! A ROTTEN TO THE CORE COMPANY. We have a lovely building, but the frustration that Bob put us through does not make it a happy memory! NO! NO!! No!!! I feel for the people that work for him! Where do I begin. Bob is good at selling, but after that was horrible. We were told permits were 3k, but then charged us more for permits later on. We had a screaming match with one of his former drug addict employees in the yard, and then barely got an apology. The build process takes FOREVER. He tries bribing for a good review like picking up the garbage, keeping the over ordered material, or installing gutters(which he doesn't tell you are required for permits). Bob, you made this project far more difficult than it had to be. It took over a year to have a simple pole barn built. Was back-burnered for weeks at a time, on numerous occasions, because Bob had several jobs going simultaneously. Bob wouldn't return phone calls most of the time. Throughout the process I had to leave multiple messages with John (his assistant), who I'm sure hears these complaints on a daily basis. I actually felt bad for him because I could hear the frustration in his voice. I have made multiple calls to have leaks fixed. It's always a battle to get Bob to honor his workmanship and send someone out. Here we are, two years later and my roof still leaks. $30,000 for a leaking building... what a joke. If you're looking to harvest rainwater inside your building, Bob is your man. If you want it dry, done on time, without headache and stress, look elsewhere. Update 3/27/16 Bob promptly called me the day after my review went live. He sent out another employee to perform leak repairs. I won't know if the leaks are fixed until the next heavy rain. Check BBB for reviews of this company, our exact story except we paid for "labor" and the permit and got out of the deal after months and months of weekly/daily phone calls to the owner; sunken costs was worth getting out of the larger unforsaken MESS with this company. Just as the previous review says by Chelsea H. check BBB and DO NOT hire this contractor. We signed the contract on April 26th 2014 for a 24X24X10' building and it still is not complete as of 12/9/2014. I am waiting on the concrete slab (which by the way he was not going to compact the 5/8ths minus underlayment, nor was he going to put any type of wire mesh or control joints in to prevent cracking and conveniently enough it says in the contract that they are not responsible for cracking). I also was forced to rent a machine for $250 to remove a root out of one of the holes they augered. It has been countless phone call conversations with no dates set in stone. He will take half the cost of the project when you sign the contract and that is the last you will hear from him. Again, DO NOT hire this contractor, you WILL be sorry read more

Avoid this company at all costs! If you prefer to work with a contractor that has a payment plan that matches the build schedule, starts on time, is built consistent with the agreed upon plans, finishes on time and leaves your property in good condition, Alpha Steel is not the choice for you. Project was supposed to start in July 2016 and was supposed to take a few weeks. Bob collected our first payment (1/3 total up front) in May 2016. Project finally started in November 2016 (and only then because of our constant pushing, inquiries, calls to Bob). It is now March 2017 and we still aren't final. Delay after delay after delay. The only time these guys were here when they said they would be was to collect the next payment due. They would be very punctual on those dates but then we wouldn't see nor hear from them again for weeks at a time. Things were not built to plan and materials were not as agreed. The owner, while friendly and helpful during the bid stage, is terribly rude and cantankerous after he collects any money. Avoid. Avoid. Avoid. I wish we had read some of the other reviews here and on BBB before choosing Alpha Steel. After 8 months of excuses, no shows, 3 hr. days, and failed inspections a building that should take 14 to 20 days to erect was 'completed'. No final grading was done. The final site inspection hadn't passed and a yard full of construction garbage was left. This is a fly-by-night operation. No one is in charge and no one takes responsibility. read more

Similar to the previous reviews... Paid lots up front for VERY slow service. Total construction took approx. three and one half weeks. Took over SIX MONTHS to complete. (Simple 24x24 garage, said it would be done by end of December.) Pay, and wait for initial grading. Pay again wait for framing. Pay again and wait for concrete floor. Pay again and wait again for doors... Did not include metal trim around doors and gutters: said "Just paint it..." Final grading sucks; still shoveling ruts and rocks. Could have back-bladed in 15 minutes. Should have gone with Spane. Never again... read more
