We had not planned to have any additional work done, but, upon inspection, their estimator (Ryan) recognized that our attic was improperly ventilated. We ended up having KGC add more ventilation when they replaced the roof. For the five years that we have lived in our home, we have had to endure uncomfortably high humidity levels in our bedroom. A few years back, we purchased a dehumidifier for the room and on bad days it would pull close to a gallon of moisture out of the air. I did not think there was a solution until Ryan explained that our attic had insufficient ventilation. I'm so thankful for his expertise. There has been a DRASTIC difference since getting the roof done. We can sleep comfortably and no longer have to use a dehumidifier. Not only did the added vents improve the health of our attic, it improved our quality of sleep. The crew was professional, they sent daily progress photos to show what they had accomplished, and Keith personally came out to check on the progress and quality of work. We had had three other companies visit and he stood out for his professionalism and knowledge - he was the only person who a) observed that our house was built in 1937 and b) explained its long and likely history of poor roof choices, which led to c) his plan for a new system that would help the old girl finally breathe as she was originally designed to do. We wound up putting off the project due to the pandemic, so had a lot of time to consider our options. We decided that along with Klam's quality came peace of mind, and so secured them this winter. The team came out and finished in two days; were awesome and frankly we are still shocked by how clean the site was after they left; they did a great job of clean-up! Also have to say we so appreciated Katie in the office; she is highly communicative and we had a clear idea of schedule thanks to her. PS, this alone is another plus for Klam; two of the other companies we'd looked at went totally silent after their visit and one became super pushy. Total professionals here. Which brings me to another key point - Klam was one of only two contractors (of the four we interviewed) who were honest about the condition and cost. Now, we knew going into it that we had FOUR layers of roof up there - literally decades of previous owners doing their own DYI patchwork fixes. Really interesting/disturbing to observe that two companies told us there were only two layers, and casually mentioned "more" would be charged "if" they discovered extra. Klam was the only company who said straight up, "There are four layers, and here is what it will cost." We of course opted for their clear, no surprises estimate. Abel and Jairo from Klam were the only ones who looked in our attic space and discussed ventilation with us. The Klam bid was inline with other bids that did not include adding any ventilation. We went with Klam and they were able to get us on their schedule more quickly than we expected. The crew arrived on time and were all very nice. They kept the job site clean each day and spent a lot of time after they finished making sure they had picked everything up from the yard. The problem turned out to be one JBC could not repair, but our interaction would prompt me to highly recommend JBC.

We recently had a roof leak due to the cover of an attic vent slipping off on our roof. Had some…read moremoderate water damage to one wall in our master bedroom. Called JBC and they came out almost immediately. Mark (I think was his name) went up on the roof and took a look. He nailed the cover back in place and inspected the area around it. He said there was no other damage that he could see and that the roof looked pretty good. He also said that while JBC doesn't do sheet rock work, they could refer us to a business they contract with. We told him we'd get back to him as soon as we got our insurance settlement. JBC also gave us a quote for cleaning and sealing the roof, applying moss retardant, cleaning the gutters, etc., and we are just about ready to call and schedule a date. If we are happy with their work, we will call the in the spring to discuss having a new roof put on. Stay tuned for another review.

But it was only after the old roof came…read moreoff that I understood the non-English-speaking crew intended to put the new roofing on in driving rain. I said no, please, not in the rain! The work was done quickly and on time. My husband picked up nails and then more nails and then shingles blew off. The local manager assured me this was a "common inconvenience." The crew was told by M to roof right over three vents, including the flapper vent over our shower fan. When we alerted the business, this was corrected and the flapper was put on, but the shower fan blew back into the bathroom. The company owner (in Arizona) yelled at length at my husband when he tried to explain about the shower vent not working--not his problem; his crew were not entering our house etc. etc. I finally got him to stop screaming and assured him that we wanted to trust that everything would be made right, but the crew covering over three vents had made us understandably cautious. He apologized. The following week our electrician pulled the fan and found the vent stuffed with debris from the roof. All is well now with the fan. There was a course of shingles flapping up and down in the wind. That was repaired after we forwarded the video sent to us by our alarmed neighbor. G, the man who did the original measurements and oversaw the corrections, came out once more when shingles blew off the roof. He fixed the immediate problem and told us that the roof was still not properly nailed in some places and the crew needed to come back. They have not returned to do that. We were billed extra beyond the bid price for flashing our skylights--why? The skylights were always there and I assumed would have been included in the bid. But the roof seems to still be on.
