This pest management company in Astoria was recommended by a dear friend who is usually 99 percent wrong but THE 1 PERCENT WAS RIGHT IN HAVING THIS COMPANY DEAL WITH THE LITTLE BUGGERS IN MY APT .The exterminator came early and did a visual and inspection of the most likely problem area , the kitchen and behind the radiators. He was able to pinpoint the problem which he stated was minor which was very cool with me .Some spraying of non toxic stuff , a few hidden glue tray traps and some basic advice was good enough to see no more buggers in a few days . Reasonable price and everything was explained and done in less then 30 minutes . I have to say I was provided with all the information and then some needed. When I spoke with Mike he was very professional in explaining how bed bugs work and how they work to get rid of them. So, my original review was 5 stars and that was for Mike - the owner. The problem is that the second time I called them, a junior employee came out. The underlying problem was bed bugs but it was misdiagnosed as bird mites. So, a lot of bird mite chemicals were sprayed but the bed bugs were naturally still feasting. I then asked for the cost of bed bug treatment but it was quite expensive compared to other options even though I already paid for the first visit. So, I chose another vendor. The employee was extremely pleasant though. So, I recommend getting Mike himself unless you are absolutely sure of the diagnosis. read more

I am absolutely TERRIFIED of mice...so when I spotted one running across my living room 3 weeks ago I was about ready to move! After numerous attempts trying to handle it myself I finally made the decision to call in a pro and I'm glad I did. I called around 11 AM and Mike answered the phone. He answered every one of my questions and was very kind. He sent out an exterminator around 2:30 that afternoon. I didn't catch his name but he was everything I needed! Super thorough and answered the many many questions I had about mice. After all was said and done I was charged right in the middle of quote I was given (but would've paid double). The first time they came out in 2015 for a mice problem- they treated the problem and I was happy with the results. 3 years later I had another mouse running around and I called them. They left traps and didn't close up the holes. Within 2 weeks I continue to see mice in the same area (and not one of them approached any of the traps left by Alpha Pest.) I reached out and they promised to call me back and did not do so. When I inquired about their fee and lack of resolution to my problem they ghosted me. Not sure if their management has changed but I wish they wouldn't scurry away when they don't resolve a problem. read more

First off, I can't believe I am doing a review for a pest/mice control . So this place is great! Johnny comes by the first Thursday of every month. In fact, I told him I have to leave at 8:40 so he comes to my apartment first! Back in August, I noticed a small furry behind and tail underneath my ottoman. Well, this Mississippi native has seen all kinds of wildlife but has never lived with a mouse! He was in my space and I did NOT like it. So I panicked and called Alpha who has been servicing my building. I had been buying the plastic whites traps at home depot where you put the cheese in and the door slams once they go in. Well, that didn't work they were just taking the cheese and running. At that point, I was breeding them! AH! Not really, I only saw one live one and then later trapped two. ugh, sad, gross and just ugh! Johnny came over and brought the sticky traps, pointed out the mouse doo-a-doo, put steel wool in my radiator and behind the sink, and dropped mouse poison cubes behind the sink and the stove. He checks the traps every month and throws them out once they are dusty. He helped me move my sofa for me to clean the area where the mouse was and he takes his shoes off when he enters my apartment. The other day I waited and he didn't show up at his usual time so I called him. He's probably like, I know who that is! He sent me a text saying he was sick and then his boss called me to let me know when they could reschedule. I was amazed at the follow up! Mike is an amazingly nice, professional businessman. I called Mike after spotting a mouse run across my apartment and after seeing some droppings in my kitchen. I was absolutely petrified, losing sleep, and having mice nightmares... Although I'm sure the temptation was great, Mike did not make fun of me and told me he would come over the next afternoon after I got home from work. Mike inspected my entire apartment, pointing out areas where he thought I needed my super to close up and gave me advice for handling my super and landlord. He also provided me with a poison box right around the problem area as well as some other poison and some glue traps if I wished to use them. Mike possesses both calming and kickass tones of voice, so you know he'll take care of you. Ask for Nick to do the actual job. Oh. My. God. So these cute little brown bugs started showing up in my kitchen sink one day. I didn't mind them much-- it was a few, here and there. They were harmless. Suddenly there were more and more of them-- so I googled what they were.... apparently they were German cockroaches: little guys about a centimeter long. Horror! Suddenly the fact that they were cockroaches made them not so cute. Immediately I looked for exterminators near here, and found Alpha Pest Management via Yelp. At 3:30 in the morning, I filled out their online contact page, and the very next day, the owner, Mike Dakis, called me. "German cockroaches, huh? So, little guys, right?" Over the phone, he asked me where they were, and nothing seemed to surprise him. He was at a job, so requested that I text him with my address and available times for the week. A hundred bucks later (super cheap for what I got, by the way -- and I was able to pay over the phone with my credit card), he rang my doorbell within 24 hours. He was so warm and friendly yet had a "let's get down to work" attitude. He was great, found the source (eggs under my sink-- DISGUSTING), and put this gel in all of these crevices in my kitchen and throughout my bathroom. He even gave me advice for Queens neighborhoods to live in, if I ever wanted to move! The whole process took less than forty minutes. I will tell you, a ton of them died that very night. Per his instructions, I hand-vacuumed them up that night. The next day, a few more died. Today, NOTHING! I think they are gone!!!! I will use Alpha the next time anything ever comes up (though, fingers crossed, nothing will)... They are cheap, fast, and a trustable family business. I felt that Mike truly cared about my situation! He even talked about his 22-year old daughter, which made me feel like I was in extra good hands for some reason. I don't know. I just never thought that having an exterminator would be a pleasant experience, but it was. Except for, you know, the cockroach army base. I have used alpha pest twice in the last 4 months. The initial visit would have constituted for a 4 star rating. We initially contacted Alpha pest because we had a rodent issue. The first gentleman who came to inspect our home was great. He was kind, professional and able to explain information without sounding condescending or rude. He laid out a bunch of pet-friendly traps, as well as the powder for the rodents to nibble on. After 2 weeks, we found one of the rodents and was hoping this would be the end. Circa a month and half later, we have noticed a lot more droppings! So we called again, initially pleased by Alpha Pest service, and tried to arrange for another service. After chasing them down via email and calling like a lunatic we were finally able to arrange for another service man to come to the home. Although this person was very nice, he seemed less interested in killing the rodents, and more interested in our dog. He didn't even move the oven out of the way, like the first service person did, and just poured the powder behind the oven (which there is barely any space... unless u move it!). We still have a pest problem. We are out over $300 to kill one mouse. I hate to leave a poor review, especially when the first inspection went so well, but for the price we paid i would hope that i wouldn't have a rodent issue anymore. Tip to others trying to get rid of the rodents- go to home depot, buy the powder they use and steel wool to cover holes and hope for the best. Its better than being out all this money and unsatisfied with the service. read more

They did not fix the services with mice that were hired. I called to get them to come back and said that there is no guarantee on the job they perform. Problem persisted, it was never resolved. I was told that they provide no warranty for the job. I hired a new company and they: 1) provide 3 month warranty on their job (alpha does not provide any) 2) spent 1 hour (alpha spent 15 mins); 3) used professional bate (alpha used homedepot which i could have bought myself); 4) same price. read more

This is a long awaited review as I lost the name. Back in July of 2013 I had a bedbug issue in my apartment. The building was owned by a large management company that refused to take care of the issue and sent unprofessionals. When I found this company - I called and spoke to Mike. He was extremely helpful and gave me all sorts of advice. He discussed options that he could do if I hired them and what to look for if another inspector (picked by the management company) came by. He was so nice the entire time and answered all my questions. I must have called him three or four times in that one week and each time he was patient and gave answers even though he knew I may not be able to hire him. in the end my building's management came by and did not do the job correctly. I had a bed bug problem in my apartment in Flushing, and our bi-weekly exterminator hired by the building management company was not cutting the mustard. They came back - with a VENGEANCE! So I searched around and found Alpha Pest Management. I gave them a call and spoke to the owner, Mike, and he ran me down all the stuff that the other guy did wrong, and what I'm supposed to do, and was even able to get me an exterminator the NEXT day (which was also a Saturday). My roommates and I had a bedbug scare about two weeks ago and so I started calling exterminators to deal with the situation. After getting the most reasonable quote from the owner of Alpha Pest, Mike, he informed me of all the steps to take and how to get my management company to cover the cost of the inspection and treatment. He was able to send someone out in just a few hours. When I got my management company on the phone, they insisted on calling in their own exterminator to get the job done. I was worried because he didn't seem quite as knowledgeable as Alpha Pest, but we went through with the treatment anyway (after the guy couldn't even confirm whether we had bed bugs or not - and that was a lot of work to do in preparation). Because our exterminator wasn't very communicative and didn't speak much English, I ended up calling Mike back to see if I could schedule him for an inspection to at least to get a second opinion. Mike insisted that at this point we just go through with the treatment and answered all my questions that our exterminator couldn't or didn't seem to understand. He spent a good amount of time on the phone with me and insisted I call him back if I had any more questions (which I did), and I wasn't even hiring him. In the end, our exterminator still found no bed bugs after 2 treatments and gave us no other explanation for the black specks all over my sheets and pillowcases. At this point I'm just hoping the problem is gone, whatever it was. But if the problem does come back, I know I will speak to my management company about hiring Alpha Pest, because I know at this point I would feel a lot better about the situation had I been able to hire them. read more

My job found bed bugs in our cubicles and demanded that everyone affected hire an exterminator and verify that their homes were not infected before returning to work. I got a call at 10pm on a Sunday night telling me my cubicle was one of the zones where "activity" was discovered. I've been a bit between apartments and had a lot of stuff in my cubicle so I spent the rest of the night panicking, picturing having to get all new stuff, thinking how embarrassed I was. Needless to say, I hardly slept. I've never had a single bed bug bite but I spent the night itching and turning. I called Alpha bright and early the next day (today, actually), and was directed to Mike's (the owner) cell phone. He took the call, calmed me down, told me what had likely happened and how these large scale "consultations" typically went and scheduled an appointment for a bit later in the day. I was all for getting a dog to come sniff out the problem and he said that wouldn't be a problem but would cost extra and he really didn't think it was likely I actually had bed bugs. He could have easily made extra money, but he chose to be honest instead! He actually came with the agent he sent out because I guess I sounded THAT panicked and kept me calm while they thoroughly examined my apartment. The found no evidence of bed bugs! I'd highly recommend this company, and not just because I got the result I was hoping for. They did a good job with my moms bed bug extermination. They were somewhat expensive compared to what I thought it would cost. But another exterminator I received a referral from tried to charge me double What Apple did. The other guy was not aware that women customers can do something called comparison shopping. Any way I digress. service from apple was great and so far the bed bugs have not returned. Like some old people my mother was reluctant to throw out a lot of her old unused belongings (hoarder) and that was a long process. Mr Apple man was very patient and did not try to take advantage of the situation or the delay. The prep work I had to do was horrendous. My mom had a lot of clutter so there is a chance she could get a reinfestation at some point due to keeping much of her furniture that was infested but hopefully not. If so I would use Apple again. I spoke to the owner Mike about my situation, which was bed bugs, and he walked me through everything from there. Starting from how to get rid of the problem to how to get money from my landlord, since I live in an apartment building. He gave me a list of his chemicals when I said I might end up using a different company AND told me what I should be asking for when hiring. We had bedbugs. Totally disgusting and depressing. We hired a different exterminator who sprayed, said we were "clean" -- and we weren't. That's when I called Mike. He came over and examined the whole apartment to see what he'd need. Then when his guys came, they were wonderful, professional and, as I'd hoped, merciless. They really did a great job. Two weeks later they came back to do it again, just as thoroughly. That's the process: Two steps. We have just been inspected by a dog from a rival company and we are now, truly, "clean." At one time I would have recommended this service. The responsiveness and customer service was inconsistent, but the service really worked for my roach problem, so I kept going back. I only needed to call for the service about every 6 months, as it was effective.This last time I requested service, about 6 weeks ago, it took multiple attempts, voicemails (as no one ever answered the phone) and e-mails to get someone to respond. Finally Mike responded by text. Wouldn't commit to a time to have the exterminator there until the last minute, I had to have someone waiting at my apartment and work around their schedule. Now, after only 6 weeks I am beginning to see roaches in my kitchen. I called, someone did answer the phone, and informed me that I would have to pay the full price for an exterminator to come back, as 6 weeks did not fall within the "guarantee" range. That to me is unreasonable, particularly as I have been a customer for several years now. Customer service is poor and Alphapest is not willing to give at all to maintain customer satisfaction.
