Attractive interior but oh, the gyro. First time visit and only tried one entree but the one got, i must say, in my 76 years I have never had a gyro quite as bad as this one today. There isn't enough seating areas, felt rushed bc patrons were standing around staring at people to get up so they could sit down. Don't think I'll be back. The lamb gyros were a little on the bland side. The Greek salad was light on dressing. The grilled chicken for the salad was served on the side. It was also dry. This is my favorite place in Waco. A hidden gem. The gyros are fantastic--chicken, chickpea, lamb, and pork options. The pita is homemade and delicious. I love the regular fries, but they have feta fries too that are yummy. My children love this place too. I order my 5-year-old a "deconstructed chicken gyro" so that he can eat all the parts separately. Good prices and amazing taste. Highly recommend! read more

We really wanted to like this place for lunch or dinner, but alas you are safer sticking to the yummy desserts, wine list or coffee and coming here after dinner elsewhere. The food is greasy, the fried items are soggy with oil and everything we had was dusted in a sugary seasoning salt, even the pita bread. Just gross. I have mixed feelings about this place. I really wanted to like the food because the place itself is so unique and charming. But the gyros just leave a lot to be desired. I have never had a gyro that consisted of ground meat rather than the traditional sliced meat from a vertical rotisserie. Needless to say, it's an odd choice but I was willing to give it a try. And although the meat is flavorful, it was quite greasy. Also, the Greek salad had balsamic dressing rather than a traditional Greek dressing....another odd choice that I didn't care for. We ordered the Feta cheese phyllo rolls which were DELICIOUS so I have high hopes for the Spanakopita (which they were out of). I'll give t another chance and perhaps order something else since the ground meat gyro failed to satisfy. read more

I went to Alpha Omega for dinner with a friend since we both love Mediterranean food. Both of us, however, agreed that our lamb gyros, $9.98 didn't have any flavor. I added feta cheese fries. They were rather limp and I like them crispy. I also like Greek salad so I ordered a large Greek salad thinking that I could take some home if I couldn't finish it. However, the only flavor I could taste in the dressing was vinegar so didn't finish it. The dressing didn't taste like any other Greek salad dressing I have had. I was very disappointed and will not be going back. I ended up paying around $20 and for that I could have had two good steak dinners at Texas Roadhouse. read more

First time here. My husband had the beef gyro. He thought is was well seasoned and really good. The Cheese Balls are advertsed as 3 cheeses and deep fried. Nit the case. They were mostly a breading mixture with very little cheese. My lamb gyro was shredded lanb, not the sliced lamb meat off a spit. Very bland. The Greek Salad had a balsamic vinegarette instead of a Greek vinegarette. Disappointed. read more

This is an excellent new place in Waco. Six of us tried a wide variety of menu items, and we were generally very impressed with the tasty food, and plan to return. The Lamb gyro was very good, though more pricey than the others ($9 vs $5, but in reality everything was very reasonably priced and much cheaper than Dallas or Austin). The shrimp gyro was out of this world. Chicken and pork gyros were good but not as spectacular. A chicken Greek salad arrived with a huge amount of meat, and was overall very good, but the chicken chunks were large cubes and didn't seem to fit the salad. Pita bread and hummus were fantastic. The fries with feta cheese were interesting but the cheese did not seem to pair well with the standard french fries. Tomato basil soup was good. Beer, half and full bottles of wine with a decent selection. The interior fit the restaurant and was cool and clean. We will definitely go back. read more

The ambiance is a 5! The staff is friendly and quick. The only problem I had was the pita bread and temperature of my chicken gyro. The pita was a little too hard for my liking. If you want great pita go to xristo's, but just ask for them to lightly salt it. I did enjoy the chopped tomatoes and onions they garnished the chicken gyro with. They added a hearty amount of tatziki sauce which was appreciated! The hummus was good as well. I do not like how they make you pay separate for the hummus and the pita bread though. The staff is so friendly and welcoming. You can really tell they all get along and put a lot of care into their service. You can taste it in the food! I have never had Greek food before but now I can't stop coming and trying new things. Nice restaurant and a welcome addition in Waco. Food is excellent, but staff sometimes seems a little clueless, possibly due to lack of training. In one instance, my wife ordered chicken soup which arrived without a snitch of chicken in it. When she pointed this out to the person behind the counter, they disappeared with the bowl, then busied themself with other things. When no soup reappeared after 5-10 minutes, my wife asked another employee what was going on. That person then went to the kitchen and promptly returned with the chickenless soup and a plate of cold, chopped chicken. I can cite other examples, but you get the idea. Another issue is the somewhat glacial pace of service. We have waited what seems like an inordinate period of time (20-30 minutes) for what seemed like pretty basic orders. There's sort of a lackadaisical (the positive spin would be "laid back") feel to the place in terms of service. To summarize, it's a nice place, I really like the lamb gyro, and my wife has had other dishes that she thought were great. If they would up their service game a little, they'd get five stars. read more
